I have an AT&T GS4 with the MF3 update. I rooted it back in October, then tried to un-root it in November, which worked as far as root checker is concerned. It still says "custom" with a lock symbol when I turn it on though.
Anyway, yesterday afternoon it started doing weird things.
-The play/pause button on the headphones doesn't play or pause anything, though if i hold it I still get the voice commands.
-Scrolling in apps and menus hesitates and skips.
-It hangs up when I wake it up before it will let me swipe to unlock.
-Sometimes while listening to podcasts it will just pause them, or switch to google music for less than a second before pausing all sound in the headphones.
-Once when I picked it up off my desk (with the screen off and nothing plugged into it) it started playing google music out loud in my silent office.
All of this started suddenly yesterday afternoon. I had not downloaded any new apps in a while, and I didn't really notice if anything was updated.
I have tried formatting my SD card, closing as many running apps as I can identify, rebooting, removing the battery, removing the SD card, and cleaning out the headphone jack of dust. Oh, and I tried to download wakelock detector, but it will not install. No errors, it just downloads and sits at 100% without installing.
I have very little experience with messing with Android, since I came from an iPhone back in August to this, and didn't get to play with anything before I got the awful MF3 update. So if anybody has any suggestions, keep that level of knowledge in mind.
In attempting to back up my data, it will not connect to my computer. I have a mac with Android File Transfer that I have used in the past, but just says it cannot connect. It did connect once, but it took a few tries and now it won't connect again.

I've been having this problem for about a month now. The phone would soft reboot. I think it soft reboots because I see the following:
1. Phone locks up for a few seconds.
2. All apps restart including my LauncherPro.
3. All widgets try to update.
4. Cell Signal is lost for a few seconds.
5. Media Scanner starts to scan for media files.
6. I hear the boot sound, eventhough the phone doesn't completely reboot.
My phone is rooted and has Voodoo V0.2 Kenrel installed (not the OC one).
I also noticed that it soft reboots more often after I turn Bluetooth off in my car when the phone is connected to the car stereo and streaming audio.
I wonder if anyone know what is wrong with my phone or if they have experienced this issue before on the Samsung Fascinate or any other android phone.
I see the same thing sometimes when turning off bluetooth when connected to my car stereo. In addition to the symptoms you mentioned, I hear the boot sounds, even though the phone doesn't appear to completely restart. My phone is completely stock, never rooted.
Yes, I do hear the boot sound too. I forgot to mention that.
Maybe try one of Dirk's D02 kernels? My phone soft rebooted yesterday, but that was because I flashed the ota radio. It's been fine since.
However, it COULD be a problem with the DI01 update, since it is happening to a non-rooter as well.
Just some thoughts.
Sent from my Fascinate using the XDA app
This issue has been fixed in the DJ05 update.
I know I have seen a thread about this before but I can't recall if it was on XDA or perhaps Droid Life; XDA seems to be the generally more knowledgeable group of people so I thought I would ask here.
I experience frequent lockups and or reboots (I know one causes the other, so...) when doing most anything media related. They are related but come in two different varieties:
1. Music Playing. I typically only play music while on an airplane and most of my flights are at night, so I will try and load a playlist then lock the screen. Almost always I will get through about half a song and the phone will reboot. Testing has revealed the reliable way to cause this is simple: Start a song, lock the screen, turn the phone. It wont wake back up and if it does it will freeze until it reboots or you pull the battery.
2. Movie Playing. Since I obviously don't turn off the screen while the movie is playing, the above is not an issue. Sometimes - but not all the time - while using the built-in movie player the phone will be completely unresponsive. I cannot pause, stop, or change volume. The movie will continue to play just fine though. I haven't tested what happens when the file ends as I usually notice it near the beginning of a file and must have the ability to pause it. There's no reliable way to get this to happen, although it almost always happens while in-flight (again, the only time I really use it, so that doesn't mean anything).
I know other people have experienced these issues before, but are there any reliable SOLUTIONS? I have rooted before, before the 2.3 update. The 2.3 update bricked the phone and I SBF'd my way back - root was gone. I re-rooted some time later, then undid the root in order to use Flixter. Just yesterday I did the .621 update and again bricked the phone, SBF'd back to life again. I'm not ruling out the history of rooting to have causes these issues, but I'd like to fix it if I can.
Thanks to all!
Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me out with this issue I've been having with my Galaxy S3 Neo.
Some time ago my phone started to randomly crash internal android services and processes. It kept working after reboots until up to a point. The things that didn't work properly were Music apps, phone and (so I figured) all apps that somehow are connected to audio. A factory reset did not fix my issue.
I brought my phone to a local repair shop and they fixed it with some sort of factory reset, which they told me was done over reinstall by PC.
It worked for a few months and I had no problems at all.
Now, since a few days, my phone starts acting up again.
I don't get the crash reports like I used to get, but it's 'dying' nonetheless.
It started with the Facebook app not working anymore, it kept 'looping' the 'setting up facebook'-message and crashing the locations process, so I deleted the app.
That helped for a bit.
Now:
- I can't call anymore, it hangs.
- I can't listen to music, it hangs.
Again, any sound/audio related apps make my phone crash or hang.
The Music app, I can start it up, press play and it just doesn't respond. It says it's playing, but the counter remains on 0:00.
The weird thing is, that when I hook my phone up to my Bluetooth car stereo, it plays music fine.
It seems that whenever the phone is trying to connect to the speaker, it has issues...
A factory reset through settings didn't fix it, and neither did a hard reset in recovery mode..
Help is required!!! Please!!!!
I tried CWM, wiping everything, put CM12 on it, but no luck. Could it be that the speaker(s) is (are) dead and Android can't work properly when that happens?
Hello,
I have a Galaxy S4 which used to run a cyanogenmod install. I have recently moved to what I believe to be stock Lollipop but I am encountering some problems. I am not sure if these problems are unrelated or not so I prefer to present them all together in one place:
1. Random reboots. I am aware Lollipop has had random reboots as an issue for a while now, but my symptoms do not match exactly what I could find on the internet. The reboots happen randomly throughout the day (does not matter if phone is charging or not) and I have noticed they happen a lot more frequently if I am in a space with not mobile signal (but I do have wifi). The reboots happen when in safe mode as well. I have also tried removing the sd card, but that did not improve the situation.
2. Audio sluggishness. I occasionally get slow downs in audio when listening to music or podcasts. I have noticed this both when using headphones and Bluetooth speakers. I am not sure, but I don't think I've ever noticed this when playing audio over the phone's speakers. The audio effect sounds like someone is slowing down a vinyl disc for a couple of seconds. It happens almost exclusively when the screen is off. It also happens more often when listening to music over spotify or podcasts over podcast addict than when listening to music over the Google Music app.
3. Random connect disconnect to laptop. When connecting the phone via USB to the laptop, it randomly seems to disconnect and reconnect to the computer. It happens more often when I try and move the phone (although not consistently) but also when the phone is untouched.
4. Occasional phone slowness. Haven't noticed it happening consistently, but the phone does occasionally seem to take a couple of seconds to reply to simple commands, like, say, displaying a list of all open apps.
One of my concerns is that I might have the wrong firmware/baseband installed and that might be causing issues. Is there a way for me to check I haven't done something stupid? What is the easiest way of posting my system config here?
Thanks!
My stock S7 exhibits random reboot behavior. 1-2x per week. Once in a while it happens 2x in one day. Once it a while it happens at the most inopportune time, like when I'm trying to take a picture of an event. When the reboot occurs usually it boot loops several times (and the phone gets warm while this is happening) and then finally stops. For the first year or so of owning the phone, no reboot problems. I did see the unmounted SD card notification issue that others reported (with a Samsung SD card). A while after the nougat update and after the 1 yr warranty period of course....random reboots. Also after the boot loops stop and I'm able to use my phone again, my Spotify login is lost and I have to re-download my playlists that I had saved locally. This is a real PITA if I'm traveling and not near any wifi connection.
Any ideas?
I've done the following:
- factory reset twice
- removed the SD card, not using it anymore -> I could consistently get the phone to reboot when scrolling through my pics in google photos. I do not get this behavior anymore with the sd card removed
- install a minimal amount of apps
I've read countless search results from Google search results and nothing has solved my problem. I'm past the 1 yr warranty period. I called a local shop and was told the cost of replacing the mainboard pretty high, I'm better off just getting a new phone...which I would like to avoid. Today I disabled the built in weather app to never refresh. I have little hope that this will fix my problem, we'll see.
I don't have any launcher apps. No games. Basic apps like Bank of America, Evernote, Flixster, Spotify, Swiftkey, Todoist, Logitech Harmony, etc. I disabled the built in Amazon app and installed the Amazon app from the google play store.
I have the same problem. Also after almost 1 year I am now getting random reboots. Especially but not exclusively uwhen using google maps. Mine is still under warranry.
Update: did a factory reset via recovery, working fine again.
Overnight while charging, my phone decided to bootloop until the battery died. Woke up to a warm phone that would not power on for about 20 min. I put the phone on a gel ice pack and now it's finally on. Uninstalled and disabled a bunch of apps, always on display, bluetooth etc. Just need this thing to stay alive until I can trade it in for the new Pixel.
