Nexus s backpanel pins? - Nexus S General

Hi everybody, is there someone that could explain what is the metal layer conductor inside the plastic backpanel of the phone?
i'm referring to that stuff connected by the two gold plated pins to the phone back.
sorry for my bad english

thanks, i was wrongly thinking that the nfc was a chip inside the phone. is the same thing for all the devices that have this technology or only for the first devices that started to wear it?

It's device dependant. There is a chip that does that computing, sure, but there's also an antenna. The antenna has a relatively short range, so putting it the farthest away from the phone to get it closer to the NFC tag is what most phone manufacturers aim to do.

thanks both for the complete answers! ;-)

Was also wondering it.. thanks for the answer

replace lcd/digitizer

My screen is cracked to all hell. Is there a youtube video showing a strip down of the epic? Is there a guide on how to replace it? I have the lcd and ditizer,so I'm all set except for the actual replacement. LOL
Tia
would you mind sharing the source for the screen/digitizer for those that haven't broken their screens yet ?
Just curious.
I do not know how to tear it down yet though.
Thanks for sharing.
I got it from an interstate wireless on 7 mile for like 60$ lol
Anyone?

You sure you got the right screen? Epic uses SAMOLED, not LCD... also, the digitizer and the LEDs are part of the same construct (one of the reasons it's "super"), so you'd effectively be really just changing the display with integrated digitizer. The glass itself is glued to the plastic case. You'd need to find a way to pull it up, from what I can tell. (I have not ever taken one apart, but it is almost certain that it is a glued screen, which explains why some people are having peeling issues (my Evo had this.))
There is not much for the Epic but some info for the original Galaxy S
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745262
Dissemble of Galaxy S:
http://www.careace.net/2010/06/09/disassembly-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s/
and there are some tear-down pics of the Epic
Thats prob all info there is :/

yea i was just saying "lcd" i got the right one i know
taking a look at the links below
ok well by the looks of it, its pretty much the same thing. i talked to a tech at a repair center, and he said he MIGHT be able to do it. if not, i think i probably have about 70% chance of getting it right. the video showed a break down right down to the digitizer, and it looks almost EXACTLY like that i have, so in theory, i should just have to go as far as gettting the back off, and putting the back BACK on the NEW digitizer/amoleisupmyassed, right?
also, just for clarification, i know i have the right one bcuz i can see the button whole thingies and its the same as what the epic has (menu, home, back, search)
thanks for the useful links& help guys

How is it out of warranty when it hasn't even been out for a year? or did you mod it or something?

just curious...so sprint installed the screen you purchased or they installed one of their own? I had to do this on an htc phone a while back and it was much easier than I imagined.

I've watched a video for another galaxy phone ... the reason I'm nervous about this one is because on the Epic the screen is on a separate part of the assembly because of the keyboard.
Also: The video shows how to take it apart .. but not how to put it together again. Do I need to glue it together again? What type of glue?

I still don't understand, why are you out of warranty? samsung offers a 1 year warranty...
does one not have to deal with sprint?
Does changing the software so that it runs on a different network not void the warranty?

No even though Sprint has it in their system as marked "bad esn" samsung will not have to do with this. Although I don't think Samsungs warranty covers accidents, such as dropping your phone and cracking the screen.
Hope you get it figured out!

Well Samsung has their own warranty thing...but I would confirm by contacting Samsung..don't tell them you swapped networks or anything of course..otherwise I don't think they would bother to check...
You can always flash it back too..unless phone doesnt work completely?
I got the whole screen + keyboard for under $60 on ebay. It turned out to be as simple as unscrewing and unsnapping the cover, disconnecting three connectors, removing the electronics and putting them in to the new frame. If I'd have to do it again it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

[Q] USB Port

My big bulky phone with the big bulky extended battery dropped to the floor as I got up from my chair, not realising that the usb cord had decided to entangle me. Next thing I know, my precious hd2 is lying on the floor, screen faced down, and the usb cord "ripped".
Everything seemed to be working fine, but when I tried plugging it into my dock, it wouldn't charge, so I tried holding it at angles - it worked, but whenever i let go, it would stop charging.
Does anyone know how to fix this without having to take the whole thing apart?
Sorry friend but you will have to take the phone apart to fix this problem. Might even have to replacecthe mainbosrd as the USB port is attachedcto the mainboard and can not be replaced seperately.

ty, but I'm worried that it'll get worse in the long term (long being anything over a couple of days), ie. completely stop working, and data transfer? I'd have to use wireless adb to do transferring.

I looked at the warranty terms and conditions, and it says that anything that has to do with the usb port area will not be considered as being part of the warranty, and I don't have the receipt because I got it 2nd hand. :'(
it could be fixed, but the port must be resoldered to the motherboard. In case some circuit tracks were broken in the incident, they will have to be remade, a good service center could handle it.
Most of them aren't too fond of using real electronic measurements and algorithms in order to track corresponding usb port pins to various points on the motherboard but it's not impossible. If my hd2 would have been damaged in this way i won't hesitate to crack it open and get my hands dirty
If I wanted to, how much do you think I'd be able to sell it for? Thinking of selling it, and mybe getting a used tmous, if I can afford it.
I've managed to find some tmous on sale, so, what do you guys reckon I could sell mine for?
When I broke my first LEO512 by thinking I could repair it, I took the individual components (Case, chassis, motherboard) out and sold them on ebay. I got about £119 in total for it all
You could always sell it for full price and let the buyer find out themselves what's wrong with it.

I'm just too scared that I'll mess it up and just make it even worse, thinking of selling it, getting what I can for it, and getting another second hand.
I have this problem my micro usb port has completely broke, and the circuit lines on the mother board are screwed up, HTC will not touch it
gone the route of a wall charger for now came with another battery for £8 delivered so im happy i can still use my phone, while looking on Evilbay for a new hd2

Finally had the courage to open it, and as you said, the connections are more or less broken off, and I've got shaky hands (without nerves) and can't handle soldering it, so I'm thinking of patching it up with some blue tack

I was told its antenna (thats why I can not get good signal most of the time). But I can't find it where to buy it.
Housing or cover. More specifically - back cover or battery cover
It has nothing to do with antenna.
Just search on ebay..

That thing is the antenna, I know when I replaced 32A black housing with white one, that part didnt had any flex antenna in it, and the signal was extremely low, so if you are buying this from ebay, you must get that flex black antenna with it, otherwise its of no use. Hope you can get it somewhere=)
The housing will not have the antenna.
I just replaced mine... the housing did not include that part.

That flex antenna thing which goes to the top of the phone? Its already in my phone. I don't think that flex thing goes at the bottom too. Might be wrong though.
Another thing - may be it is possible to DIY somehow? I mean usually antennas are just "piece of wire". So maybe good electrician could work something out? Just an idea.
that is antenna, but changing housing wont have that part.
you dont need to change that part to change housing.

The upper flex antennas are for Bluetooth and GPS, bottom one is for mobile signal
About DYI, I belive its possibile, as you have said it is "a piece of wire" , though I dont know wil that end up, if you manage to do that somehow could you inform us how?
But you could buy flex anntenas for BT and GPS from ebay (upper ones), and cut them so they fit to signal antenna, just a thought =)

Nexus 4 front glass repair Q's

I unfortunately dropped my phone and the front glass cracked, breaking the digitizer at the same time. Due to an interesting situation I'm in, I just need the front glass to be fixed, the digitizer doesn't matter to me. So basically I just need to the phone to look perfect from the outside. I've seen the front glass only for $30, but also read about how hard it is to just replace the glass without breaking the digitizer. Though, for me, I don't care if the digitizer is broken, so is it still too difficult to be worth it? Or would it be easier since there's no worry about the condition of the digitizer?
Thanks
Bump
Why do you want it to look good if it's still broken? This smells fishy...
Anyway, your main problem is probably going to be separating the two.

Actions like this make prices higher for the rest of us so excuse me if I don't help you do that. Have you looked into whether your original purchase was covered by any damage insurance that came with your credit card? If your credit card is like mine you can use that coverage to get a new phone and that would be much better than committing fraud just because your friend gave you permission that isn't his to give.

Are they the same carrier? If so then I would certainly try. Im quite familiar with the S2 internally, and every other way as well, which maybe a lot different than the S4 but likely not.
What I know about the s2 is it is easy to deal with and the different pieces inside are buttoned together or little snaps is the way I see think of them. I broke a piece once by trying to remove it the wrong way before I realized it was little snaps that joined the mic or vibratot and cameras to the mother board. Have fun. Sounds like you have nothing to loose.

Yes they are the same carrier.
I'll try it and report back. I've watched a few videos on how to remove it and it seems pretty easy. Or at least straight forward.
The answer is yes, yes you can switch the boards. Woot!
