i tried the iphone today i was so impressed with the keyboard input function.
specialy that when you release your finger the key input appears, and if you press the wrong key just move your finger to the next key and release. have tried to find a similar app for my WM6 based device but there is nothing like it out there!
can someone please make a keyboard input app like the iphone for the WM devices.
the iphone really sucks BUT there is one big thing i like with it is that the software is so easy to use and so dam logical, have to give creds to the software developers at mac....
ya one more thing the iphone is 3 times faster than my ETEN GLOFIISH X500+
over and out...

Dude, I totally know what you mean. And not only the keyboard, but also that finger-flick thing. You know, the one where you kind of touch the screen with an up or down motion and it kind of flows... When is one of the WM developers going to get off their ass and make that possible on my Hermes! Sheesh!

Come on you lot, before you so eagerly jump down people's thoats, I think you'll find larsuck was being sarcastic, hence the bold wording...
theres also a pocketcm keyboard theme file, you gotta dig around the pocketcm fourms customizations to find it.
its great and looks just like the real iphone keyboard.

You can check Resco Keyboard 5.11 pro version. It has all the features with look and feel of iphone keyboard. Pretty finger friendly too.
I think some of the posts here are unfair.
Yes you can search but you're wasting your time. I've been looking for a better keyboard for wm for years.
PocketCMKeyboard has an old version which sort of works, sometimes a bit slow. It has some skins which are close to the iPhone style but again you'll need to search for them, find the right version, copy the right files to the right places, cross fingers and it will be okay. I used one for a while, some drawbacks but looked pretty good. Depending on the version of PocketCMKeyboard, it would bomb out with a time thing that meant you needed to download the new version straightaway. There's a new version but the skins are different and the old skins don't work with the new PocketCMKeyboard and you need to search for those as well. There isn't, I think, an iPhone skin for the new version.
The stock HTC keyboard qwerty thing is pretty good and is on a lot of the 6.1 roms. It works, looks pretty ugly but it works. There's a new 2.0 version you can search for and someone clever here is working on a qvga version. It looks a lot like the iPhone keyboard. You can serach for that as well, look out for version 2.0 rather than 1.5. It's not ready yet but we are hopeful.
Search on here sucks a lot of the time. If you think finding what you want is incredibly frustrating it's because it is. Shouting SEARCH all the time doesn't really help anyone, especially if they can't find something that matches their question.
Unfortunately, while I like my HTC Touch and enjoy tinkering with it, programming for it and trying out all sorts of registry hacks and tweaks to make it better, the market is going to run away with products like the iPhone which don't require all that extra work.
HTC + xdadevelopers + time = acceptable
Let's keep it polite.
I did one a while ago for PCM v14
You may want to try the link labeled iClone in my signature. I used much of the actual iPhone graphics and layout.

Are you serious or did you konk your head falling out of bed today!?!?!? I have had more trouble find a piss room in an air port than the almost 12 differenent keyboards on this site and skins to match iphone!!
This thread is was started by a person that is just another useless waste of space.
Hi,
FingerKeyboard2
PocketCM Keyboard
Haha, i personally think it is the hardware problem, the capacitive touchscreen will do all the trick that iphone will do. The software is partially at fault too as someone had said in this thread.
Hi Guys,
I'm back on XDA Forums again after straying over to maemo.org (Nokia N810 internet tablet) for a year or so. Great hardware, but software just wasn't there yet (for me) so it went to ebay as soon as I read about the HD.
Anyway, I was wondering. Given these large sensitive screens and new input methods like shapewriter & swype on the way (if they ever get round to releasing them), do you really think a real qwery keyboard will still be a requirement for most people.
I'm an ex Universal owner (still got it, but needs fixing). But having seen the demo's of shapewriter etc. and having played around with a couple of examples on my Tablet PC, I'm really excited about these sliding based input options. I reckon 50+ words a minute looks quite manageable with very little training.
I don't think I will miss the qwerty input except when entering very technical stuff (things that would not be recognised by the dictionary).
What do you guys think ?

I must say that the videos are very impressive and at this moment, it seems to be a very good alternative to a physical keyboard. Looking at those videos I had the urge to test the softwares out but they are not available yet.
Not even betas.
Shapewriter has a free software download but it's on iTunes and it's only for iPhones...

Well, i don't have neither the dinovo mini neither the touch hd . However, if you browse google you can find that various people have succeeded to connect PC bluetooth keyboards to windows mobile, so i think it should be possible.

Well in that case...
I have to say though that the keys on the DiNovo Mini are quite small even though the device itself is quite big (it's bigger than an HD) so not something you'd want to carry round with you or type large amounts of text with. Handy for occasional use, but then again if you're only using it occasionally you might as well stick with the various software keyboards that are available.

I am glad you all liked the concept you have seen. Because unlike Swype and which is only an idea for now, and Shapewriter which isn't much of a use in the ihone, there is a company who also manifested this idea and it is available for the public allready. I found it in some forum a few weeks ago, and since then I am simply amazed.
It's called SlideIT, has free demos.
Here is a video for it if you like to see it in action first:

I just saw the youtube video.
I'm not sure I like the layout of the keyboard. what's up with that "pizza pie" format?
That's a bit weird.
The added graffiti recognition feature is pretty cool.
I owned an HTC Universal too, but to be honest, hardly use the keyboard.
HI, following your comments i started evaluating the demo version of slideIT for curiosity...simply amazing, i am tempted to buy it but i will wait for the HD to make sure it works OK on 800x480. I make much fewer errors than with normal soft keyboards, and in a few trials i realized i am equally fast...i couldn't believe it myself.
Indeed, the pen is mandatory...but so what?
...anybody which had tried swype? as far as i understand, the software doesn't exist yet...

Nope, both shapewriter and swype don't exist for WM yet. If you own an iPhone you could get a free copy of shapewriter on iTunes.
I'm wondering what is swype waiting for. We've all seen the software being used on videos on youtube. So what's with the delay of the release?

Yes, I find it really frustrating. I've had a tablet pc for several months now and the only thing I find problematic is data input.
Shark was around years ago, but they pulled it to go commercial with ShapeWriter (you can't get hold of the old Shark beta software anymore).
Swype has obviously been around in beta for quite some time as well, but again not for the public. In the demos, I'm sure I've seen it running on windows mobile.
I took a quick look at slide it, but personally, I'm only interested in the slide input and SlideIt seams to have put too much effort into the "three input methods". I'm more interested in the realestate being dedicated to a single input method with large buttons.
Also I get the feeling that swype/shapewriter have better algorithms for "sloppy" input.
Finally, SlideIT is Windows Mobile only. I want a common input method on my tablet and my PDA.
I do wonder if both camps are holding back while thier legal teams sort out where they stand on patents etc.
Just my thoughts...

yes yes download link
SlideIT and www.shapewriter.com
I haven't tried SlideIT, but I have been using shapewriter for awhile. Only downside is that shapewriter isn't recognized when using a few 1 or 2 apps.
SlideIt
I tried the Shapewriter beta when it came out for WM. I went and bought Slideit as it is much better. It has a mini graffiti and it easily learns words and you can turn off the recognition mode for passwords and other spcecial needs. I am running this on a Kaiser and use the KB all the time and now I rarely use it. Not sure I would even worry about a qwerty kb again with this app.
OK I TAKE MY COMMENT ABOUT SHAPEWRITER BACK
i reinstalled it into my phone and WOW lol
its really easy to use.
i think everything should try it out
any free software available?
Awesome
I am the slowest typer/texter ever. So I just purchased the ShapeWriter and it is worth every penny.
I think this is the second best thing ever created, next to toilet paper.
It's nice, but unusable for me, because I usually write in Czech!
new version should support xT9 and I've found ShapeWriter with czech t9 from sunny soft -> PM
Yeah... English, but how the **** will they port it to other languages? Import whole dictionaries or what... lol.

Currently giving this a go at the minute, not given Swype a go as I'm not keen on the concept of it. SwiftKey seems alright so far though.
I just tried it and it is quite good..although i gotta say that while all keyboards perform well when typing in english, when i type something in italian the differences in the prediction and correction algorithms really start to stand out...end i always end up rolling back to the HTC keyboard..i guess this may be because italian is far more complex and *****y than english and while HTC spent a lot of years perfecting its keyboard for all the localizations they support, others might have dedicated less time to the same task..it makes sense to me as the resources of a small software house are hardly comparable with those of a huge corporation
Can't find this on the market....! Anyone have the file?
I love SwiftKey. Been alpha testing it for a few months. Always end up with stock IME, but its brilliant. Can send an entire text by typing a single word then it'll predict words based on previous texts I've sent.
Fantastic bit of kit

agreed, ive been testing it too, its amazing, if you are typing something relatively normal you can just type the first part of the first word and then jst hit the predictions to complete a whole sentence.
i use swype and smart keyboard pro as well, have permanetly comitted to anything yet though
Found out about it today, installed it, tried it but I still find swype nicer to use. Found it a hassle to keep looking out for the predictions.

I've tried most of the roms on here and most of the ones I've tried the keyboards that come with them suck. Now I'm not a developer and this is not to blame any rom developers. I just don't understand why the only good keyboard that was ever made for android is the Gingerbread keyboard. Swype sucks in my opinion and so does the samsung and android keyboards. The only keyboard that I like for android is the gingerbread one. I just wish that more roms would come with that keyboard instead of me having to flash it. Anyway rant over. All keyboards suck except for the gingerbread one.
People have differing opinions, I will only use swype as it's the only one I can do without even looking at my phone AND I hate to peck... perhaps my southern accent messes with voice to text b/c that is not 100% for me either.
Have you tried the flexT9? Pretty amazing and was free recently on Amazon.
Also, I made a thread a long time ago on tweaks you could do to swype to make it a lot more accurate... and the beta is a LOT better than the one that came with the phone. Sounds like you have no interest in it though.

Exactly. I've had it ever since I've had my Vibrant and never had to "flash it" when flashing any custom rom. Titanium always handle it for me.

I would highly recommend "Perfect keyboard" to you, on the market. its based off the gingerbread keyboard, with added features, functions, and customization options.....i use swype, but perfect keyboard is the only keyboard i will use that doesnt have trace input.
PS - you cant blame the developers for the keyboards that are available to choose from. most of the good keyboards on the market are paid, and therefore would be considered warez if they were injected into ROMs. they can only choose from free/stock keyboards.
you certainly cant just expect them to develop a keyboard app from scratch, because that very well may be beyond the skill level of some/most/all of our ROM developers. Unless a ROM is being cooked from scratch (coded from the ground up), which none of our Vibrant ROMs are, they're all based off Samsung code; it would be much more difficult to build a keyboard app than compile a ROM. Hence it would be an unfair expectation for our devs.
PPS - trolls, dont misinterpret what i just said. i am fully aware that most of these developers have more skill then me....all im saying is that everyone's skill is limited, and we should be respectfully wary of unfair expectations.

No offense man but can you read ? I didn't say anything negative about any developers. So don't tell me that I can't blame the developers when I didn't blame them. You need to read the whole post and not just the first sentence when you're responding to something. Otherwise people might get upset like I am now. I also don't expect anything from the devs, they build roms for us and I greatly appreciate it. I've hit the thanks button on every rom I've downloaded. Seriously why did you even reply to this ? It was a rant on keyboards. I didn't want to have a discussion about it nor did I want some moron coming in here saying I said **** I didn't say.
^ haha, true, and got a good laugh out of me for the troll comment. Sad we have to preemptively strike.
Troll sheild, activate!

I love the tapping and customization on that! IF swype could have such good customization, it would honestly be perfect lol. I'm a swyper though. Tried everything else and keep going back to swype.

Did you try perfect keyboard yet?
Sent from my pocket rocket!!
Will be trying out, Perfect Keyboard, and Smart Keyboard. I have been looking for good keyboards, swype is cool but just not for me, gb is ok. Samsungs sucks. swift key is ok. Flex t9 is actually pretty nice.
But thanks for the hints on Perfect and Smart always nice to have more options.
I have tried almost all of them and i find swiftkey to be the fastest and most accurate. After a while i hardly have to type much as it recognizes most words/sentences.
Gingerbread Keyboard, dude.
OR
If you dare, True Dvorak.
I'm trying to get used to that one because I will be turning my laptop's keyboard, too.

Have to agree here. I was really impressed after using it for a few weeks. I just hate pecking now.
Search HTC IME on these forums, easily better than gingerbread keyboard, skinnable and best of all FREE

Smart Keyboard Pro supports dvorak.
I use Swiftkey though, don't think any other keyboard comes close in ways of prediction.

agree, I tired 8pen which was an interesting keyboard but not for me. Too much of a learning curve, although once you got used to it it would probably be superfast.
I used to love swype and told many of my friends about it, but I HATED how it registers every single damn word that you type in, even if you misspelled it...
