can't Root my Defy+ & more questions. - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
After installing CM 7.1 i wanted to go back to my stock firmware
so i flashed the SBF : DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_BLUR_SIGN_USADEFYEMARAB1B8RTDE004.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRRTDACH_P019_A022_M002_Service1FF.sbf
with RDLite.
After this i wanted to ROOT my defy with Super1click.. it always worked...
until now
I bought my DEFY+ in the Netherlands unlocked..
It seemes the SBF isn't the same as I bought. To unlock i need to Swipe
that wasn't on the original one...
So what SBF do i need then ?
Or am I ****ed after flashing my Defy ?

Is that some of the latest 2.3.6 sbf's? They aren't rootable as of yet :-/
You aren't fu*ked But, maybe you are stuck If it is one of the latest 2.3.6, then it's version 7 signed, too. That means you can't flash anything older now. I think I have seen some version 7 signed Froyo, but not sure if it was tested... I do use the version 6 Froyo, though, on my DEFY+...

So, rooting isnt possible too ?

Rooting is not possibly yet..

DoomLord v4 doesn't work vor CG7.
But about the Version 7 Froyo, should that be rootable just because its 2.2?
Can anybody confirm that?

Unfortunately there isn't any working tool atm and latest Froyo isn't on BL7 but BL6 so we're stuck with stock firmware. I hope not too long.
Defy Plus 4.5.1-134 DFP-231 CEE

@ Chamelleon
You flashed the same ROM.
I got error messages all the time, think its the motorola message service or so.
The phone software isn;t working smoothly like the original one ?

I have successfully rooted my defy + using doomlord's rooting tool.
URL
www.xda-developers.com/android/want-to-root-something-anything-try-doomlords-easy-rooting-toolkit/
My defy is a telstra branded unit running 2.3.6
I wouldn't bother with other roms just yet, mostly because of any telstra specific tweaks that you might lose, like nextG... Almost no other counties are using it, so any modded ROM based on a foreign ROM won't work without further tweaking. So bone up on how to get things working again should they break.
Once you've got the defy+ rooted you can remove the God awful telstraone app...it's pure poop. Just setup URL shortcuts to the services it tried to supply.
I'm on hols ATM and will try to cut out as much of blur as possible once i'm home.

i used SuperOneClick v2.3.1.0 and it worked whitout a problem
My response was more aimed at OP, and gauged by his avatar.
Telstra branded phones with 2.3.4, or once updated to 2.3.6, won't root with oneclick. Not the batch I experienced anyway.
NextG is a low freq variant of 3G chosen by telstra to cope with Australia's vast open spaces; hence they employ a custom production ROM. So what works in one country, on one carrier, won't necessarily work everywhere or any where else.

i did it the way AzzA68 (thanks!), told everything ok with my new Defy+, it had the 2.3.5 with Telcel (Mexico)... greets
Mines rooted, i got Android 2.3.4.

It's easy. Use SuperOneClick and as the name suggests it's just one click! The lastest version works on just about any android phone, including Defy+. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
To install Cyanogenmod, there is a simple guide in a FAQ posted in the forum by one of the Dev's - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
The way to install MIUI is basicly the same idea, except when it says to flash "update-cm-7.1.0-11-Defy-signed.zip"you flash the MIUI zip file instead.
SuperOneClick doesn't work with the defy+

DooMLoRD and the latest version of SuperOneClick both use the same exploit (called zergrush). This appears to have been fixed in the latest versions of 2.3.6 shipping on the Defy+, hence no root for the moment.

Sorry, not at the present time. Just have to wait until someone finds another loophole that can be exploited, I guess. Might be worth keeping an eye on the main SuperOneClick thread for news - the dev does say on his blog that he's planning to focus on Motorola phones next. In the mean time I am looking forward (not much) to life with a non-rooted phone, depending on how mine comes back from UK repair agent (having managed to brick it by attempting to flash incompatible SBFs in the hope that one would then be rootable).
How are you supposed to make any kind of useful backups without ClockWorkMod and Titanium Backup?
Apparently SuperOneClick v2.3.3, releaed a few hours ago, has added a new exploit to root on "Motorola." Might be worth having another try with the latest version!

If you install ice cream sandwich, there won't be any troubles because it's not an actual upgrade (in the sense that only /system dir and the kernel will change). Thus, you just have to flash the right sbf in order to go back to defy+ official android build.
Use RSD Lite to flash a sbf.

Direct Answer: You can go ahead and buy the Defy+.
You should be able to use Gingerbread with absolutely no problems. And there is no point in downgrading to Froyo.
And once, ICS is out, you may work with either Gingerbread or ICS.
PS: Motorola just released the entire source code for Gingerbread.

Hi,
My phone came with the same version. It has DFP-189 SBF. You can update it to 2.3.6 by a full SBF flash. If you r phone is fully stock(no root etc.) then you can do that by simply choosing the correct SBF(MB526.AsiaRetail.**.DFP-1321) and flashing it and you will be updated to 2.3.6. There is one another updated SBF (MB526.AsiaRetail.**.DFP231) which I currently have and has different lockscreen and caller UI. You can find all the SBF here . Try by just flashing the SBF and you will be updated and your data will be still there. However should you face any prob you will need to do a data wipe from stockrecovery
But before doing any of that you should know:
1.) The SBF with DFP-1321 has BL6(bootloader version) and thus you won't be able to use any CM made for Defy, will have to use CM builds for Defy+.
2.) The SBF with DFP-231 has BL7 and thus cannot be downgraded to any of the SBFs!! And most imp: You can't root it! Why am I using it? Because phone was in service center and they flashed this SBF!!! :'(

Hi, the link for DFP-1321 SBF given in the official thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386942) seems to be broken. This puts me in a spot since I'm made to believe it's not wise to flash a custom ROM without having at least one stock SBF I can fall back on, in case I mess up my phone somehow. I was really looking forward to flashing a custom ROM, and now this problem...
Could someone suggest any alternative link/SBF/method or better still, reupload the DFP-1321 SBF and post the link on the relevant thread? Thanks in advance...

Make a nandroid backup before you flash anything..
If something goes wrong, just restore your backup..
However, there might be a scenario when you cannot access your recovery (highly unlikely if you follow instructions),then you shall need your stock SBF to fall back to.

[Q] HELP my defy became defy+

my defy was flashed with defy+ sbf with kernel version 2.6.32.9-ge281b6e. i hate it cause my battery wont work i need to use desktop charger since battery cant be recognize by the phone and the status is "?". also camera is not working.
i tried to flashed it with different sbf's found in this forum but none of it work! after flash phone wont boot unlike when you flash it with my current firmware.
i want at least to have my battery back to normal also camera if possible. i tried flashing it with other defy rom but i always got stuck. it seems that ICS was installed but the phone wont load it.
is there anyway to get back to my original firmware? or any upgrades that can fix this. please help.

Hey there!
Before you do anything, you gotta root your phone. Then install 2ndint to get recovery mode menu. Only from there can you successfully flash roms and get it to work.
i have the same prob.
i can flash any rom for defy+
my phone is defy green.

my battery and camra not work.

The bootloader is locked !!!
Hi ...
Is almost impossible to downgrade from 2.3.6 to 2.2.
Motorola Defy with green lens work just with 2.2. With "update" the camera will NOT work more and until now is not possible to downgrade !!!
All this, because Motorola don't want to unlock the bootloaders. I personally I have this problem and now am nervous on Motorola...
Most of HTC's and Samsung's have unlocked bootloaders. In this conditions, I wil not buy more Motorola.

If you want any help, we need to know your build number (not kernel). We can then find out what bootloader version you have (6 or 7). If you are on bootloader6 you can downgrade to froyo with a workaround, but on bootloader7, you're stuck.

You're not on bootloader 9.10. That's not what we're talking about. If you find your build number under system settings -> about phone, we'll try to find out what firmware you flashed to find out what "e-fuse level" you're on. Or just give us a link to the sbf you have flashed.

No, we're talking about kernels here. If he is a green lens user on 2.3.6 kernel his camera will not work. He needs to downgrade to froyo. This is only possible on bl6. He can't flash a froyo kernel over bl6 or bl7 without flashing a special sbf.

He can root, he can flash custom ROM's, but the only kernel he can use is the GB kernel, so camera won't work (he has green-lensed camera) and if he tries to flash a Froyo kernel, he will end up with a BL error.

Bootloader 9.10 is not the same as the bootloader version, my friend (yes, it is confusing). If you de-pack an sbf , you'll find a lot of images for different partitions of your phone. The images are all called CG__.smg where __ is a number, e.g. CG31.smg or CG39.smg. Most of these images are signed by motorola with a special version number (e.g. 6 or 7 on defy+ roms).
Our TI Omap processor has an e-fuse built into it which is some sort of a flash counter. It doesn't count how many times you flash, but the level of the CG__.smg you have flashed onto your device. If you flash an sbf with a CG31 (the bootloader) on version 7, you'll never be able to flash a CG31 lower than 7. Motorola increases this number for every update they make, to ensure that a user always uses the latest motorola software. This means it is impossible for let's say a defy+ user on 2.3.6 to downgrade to 2.3.5.
everybody has bootloader 9.10 (EDIT: Most do, but I've seen 90.73 and some others as well), but it has been re-signed and made only to accept the newest kernels, so your green lens is stuck without camera. Only the latest Motorola sbfs are bootloader7 (as of june 2012)
yeah i figure that our cause in flashing you will see codes and code 39 takes time i guess we cant help but wait, thanks guys if theres any solution pop out hope someone will keep us up to date. thanks!!!

Newbie in need of help...

First off, thank you all, especially the developers for all the help you're providing and your hard work.
Now, I am a newbie with Android. I've managed to get a running start and flash Blackberries and WM phones in the past...
But it seems like Android is a little bit over my reach... Been reading for 2 days, flashing, installing sbf's and noting pleases me.
My phone is a used Defy, bought with CM9 installed and the camera not working. The previous owner installed the SBF on the defy, and it stopped working as it's said many times. It was a 4.0.4 android version installed, but I was hoping to install the CM10 jelly bean. Bricked it a few times, but managed to reinstall this SBF: DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CEE_ROOTED_No_Signed.sbf
Now my Defy is running the stock android version with motoblurr, but the camera still doesn't work, as you expected.
Now, all I want is: If I still can't use the camera(the previous owner said my defy has green lens, no way to know for sure), at least it could do is run Jelly bean version, and if it's possible overclocked and with ICS(or how's that hardware acceleration patch called?).
If anybody has time to walk me through it, I will be more than grateful.
Stuff from about phone that might help:

Hi,
first of all:
the model number mb526 is for the defy+. The Defy got the number mb525.
is the phone rooted? and when, is the cwm (clockworkmod) installed?
when your phone boots up, does the led lights blue?
Sent from my GT-P7500 using XDA Premium HD app
Hello, and thanks for the fast reply.
It is rooted, and I know it's defy mb525.
I had installed sndinit2.3. The led then turned blue. I flashed it afterwards with rds lite and now I dont think I have any recovery mod installed.
As I know, defy+ models only have red lense camera Moduls.
so you flashed a defy+ sbf on a green lens defy. that's why camera doesn't work.
But no problem.
The best way is to download a froyo sbf for the defy at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
the Nordic is good for installing custom rooms.
flash the sbf via rdslite.
After that, root the phone, install 2nd init and then you can easily install custom rooms.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using XDA Premium HD app
Well, he flashed his Defy with a Defy+ SBF. So the model number shown in the 'About' option will be MB526 and not MB525. AFAIK, there is no way to make the camera work now.
And he cannot flash froyo SBF as the Defy is flashed with SBF having BL7 and cannot be downgraded.
Sorry, I forgot that a downgrade doesn't work.
In that case, you have to use the custom Roms for the defy+
a good start is, to download a cm7 build defy-cm.net
boot your phone and when the led turnes blue, pressing the volume down key.
you should get into the recovery menu. I wipe data/cache and the install zip from sd (before you have to copy the
downloaded rom on the sd of your phone).
After cm7 is running, go on and download the latest jb rom of quarx. install the same way as cm7.
that's it.

After cm7 is running, go on and download the latest jb rom of quarx. install the same way as cm7.
that's it.

Well, I kinda did that, but... after I flashed the CM10 jb, the phone starts (the sound of new drive connected in windows led me to believe that), but noting comes up on the defy's screen... restarted...but nothing...
So then I flashed back to the SBF previously mentioned...
Donno if there is a difference between sndinit and CMW...
Should I try it with CMW?

I guess you flashed a ROM intended for Defy (for Froyo kernel, and yours is GB kernel). Try flashing CM10 ROM for Defy+.

+1
One the one side, your hardware is a mb525 - defy but on the other side you're firmware an bootloader is a mb526 - defy+.
so you can only use roms for a defy+ - using a rom for the defy causes the error you got.

The CM7 that's needed to install CM10 should be also for defy+?
Also, don't I have to follow the steps for defy +? Meaning flashing CM9, and then CM10 JB?
Yes, you can flash CM ROMs for Defy+ only, with battery fix as the battery is 1500mah which defy+ has 1700mah.

Last question... Should I use CMW or sndinit 2.3? If CMW is the way to go, how do I uninstall the sndinit 2.3 recovery mod or how's it called?
You will have to install 2ndinit to get CWM.

The steps for flashing are the same. But as you have a defy+ now, you need some extra tweaks like battery patch and maybe camera patch. Some of them are included in the actual roms. battery patch is needed because of the different types of battery between defy and defy+.

Thank you guys. I managed to update my Defy to 4.1.1 JB. At least it's running the latest version of android.
Now I'll try to overclock it... Hope I don't brick it...

Back again here.
Question as usual.
Is there any chance I can downgrade if I take my defy to a service? Can they do it with some cool toys?
Just reflash your stock SBF using RSDLite and it will be back to how it was when you bought it.
