Tab 7.7 app drawer - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

What's up with the app drawer on the 7.7? The apps don't automatically rearrange to be in order. It's kind of annoying.

Yeah, I hate it too. Same problem with the original Galaxy Tab I remember. Wish there was a way to get it to consolidate screens and order alphabetically.

Try an alternate launcher, like ADW and it will be fine. I've seen the same problem on a SGS 2.

I agree, its ridiculous to have to manually arrange every new app. What really doesnt make sense is that the $300 7.0 plus works perfect, but the $600 7.7 doesnt? I really hope a firmware update fixes this. Or maybe ICS will. I prefer stock launcher.

Wanting to buy a Vibrant. Have questions

Ok so I would like to get a vibrant soon but there are a few things that bother me that I would like to get resolved.
#1 how are the custom ROMS? Can i use Galaxy S and Captivate ROMS or is it specific to the vibrant only?
#2 I really dont like the UI they put on there. I like the stock android OR sense UI. I know sense will probably never make it to the vibrant but how about the stock android? Are there any ROMS right now that offer that? I know how to theme but that would be a lot of changing.
#3 development... I feel like since the Galaxy S will be across the world and many carriers development would be fairly good right? How is it now? What do you think it will be like in the future?
Hey NC!

There are no ROMs right now. CM6 has two developers working on porting to the Galaxy though.

Use ADW or LauncherPro (amazing on this phone)

It will eventually be very good. With the volume sold and ability of this phone, it will eventually have great development. Right now, a lot of developers, especially on here are used to HTC and getting used to Samsung and the differences.
You have to remember, This phone Just came out and the other 2 still haven't.
Plus, this is not an HTC phone.
That being said, development is going strong.
Expect the Flood gates to open soon.
FYI: I use both ADW launcher and Launcher Pro (bothe give me the the stock android experience you seek.
i think the custom roms will start flowing.
about touchwiz, I thought that would be the first thing i removed, but i have actually liked some things about it, but like has already been mentioned, use ADW or whatever launcher you prefer.
I think development witll really start to take off in time.
Thanks for the quick replies. Great answers
I use:
Touch Calendar
ADW launcher
aContacts
stock News & Weather
Klaxon
cubed.
That pretty much gets me around the Yucky TouchFlow. I also rooted and installed Root Explorer to get rid of the bloatware easily.
I was really hesitant, and except for having to tap ever so accurately when correcting text because there's no dpad (I've put a request in to a dev that I like for a soft dpad), I'm very happy.
If you get too much lag because of the slow storage memory, there's a hack for that. I haven't use it yet.
Just took a chance and bought it. Loving the phone but just as I expected, touchwiz is quite annoying. Cant wait to see a 2.2 cyannogen rom

[Q]A rom or something to make my Galaxy Tab better

I want to know if anyone is making or thinking of making the Galaxy Tab more unique. I mean like roms and everything that make super awesome use of it altogether. I understand this is what Google is trying to do with Honeycomb, but as you know the Galaxy Tab is Samsungs and you know how good they are with updates...
I am asking this because when people ask me what it can do I have to always say something like "It's like my phone but better" or "It does everything my phone does without the calling"
there are no real custom roms out yet, but there are 2 or 3 "mods" u can try
I see almost everything is for GSM based Tabs, why is there no real love for the VZW or Sprint TAB? Is it that much harder to port things over for or is it cause not many of us TAB owners using VZW/Sprint?
Verizon tabs are easier to get clockworkmod on. You can just buy the app. So I dont think it would be harder then a gsm model. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

u have to jump through hoops just to flash cwm on the fascinate
Not sure what u mean by "better" though. I didn't want a phone but I want something I can use alternative to netbook. 3g and phone capabilities are plus but not necessary as long as there is wifi. I can read ebook and watch my ripped movies and animes on big enough screen for one person. Netflix would be a huge plus for that aspect. I gave up on buying mp3 player because I dont want to carry another device and tab does play music okay.
Tab is not really meant to be better for everyone nor better than smartphone, I think. It is only better for people who can find better use.
I am using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909429
and it has made a huge difference as far as speed and responsiveness.
LauncherPro is much better than the Samsung Home in my opinion also which is also preinstalled.

Samsung Galaxy S ROM port

Had use of a Galaxy S for a week while my HD2 was info repair, really like the Samsung customisations, email, messaging, clock, music, all skinned very nicely.
Anyone know any ROMS with this stuff cooked in or perhaps some apps I can install to customise with.
The only thing I know of is the samsung launcher. It's only the launcher so I think its not much.
If I remember correctly, the widgets, apps, etc work only for the galaxy s.
It's inferior to all the options already available. That's probably why it hasn't been done.

inferiority is a matter of personal preference... I for one think that a full Galaxy s port would be neat...
I liked the galaxy s with touch wiz. liked it better then sense
In what way is it inferior?, have you used a Galaxy S more than for a few mins?, after a weeks usage I liked it better than the all of the NAND ginger ports by a long way. I would have kept it but I prefer the versatility of the HD2.

Fine, I'll be the one to tell you since no-one else will :
Not only is TouchWiz made for a completely different/older version of Android, but also for a completely different device (e.g. the one in my sig). You're asking whether a rather major port can happen here, which most likely it won't.
Sorry.

I think he was talking about Touch Wiz UX. Which is what the new samsung 10.1 tablet has.

Shame you are wrong then!
Touchwiz UX is the new Honeycomb version of Touchwiz which will shortly debut on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which is quite a similar device to the TF.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is both possible to port, and that someone does.
Regards,
Dave
OK - granted the galaxy tab will have a new honey comb specific version of touch wiz...but frankly if it does for tablets what the previous touch wiz does for phones then Samsung can keep it. Porting touch wiz will be like contracting a disease - deliberately.
Hopefully the ADW team will deliver us a shiny new version of their launcher that is optimized for honeycomb

Regardless, WHO WANTS TouchWiz? It's aids. It's better to have stock Honeycomb experience, and install any launcher you prefer afterwards.

+1, I'm hoping that SPB Software can make a tablet-optimised version of SPB Shell 3D. It works very well on my phone and I'm sure they can make it work just as well on a tablet .

I like it, at least the Galaxy tab one. It has however issues, like that horrible colour backdrop for the icons and a true love for re organising the icons, so that you won't find them anymore where you'd expect. And that's why I got ADW EX.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
Personally, I use ADW EX.
When it comes toUX, you simply cannot make everybody happy. I know that quite well, I just spent most of the day yesterday on a design meeting for what should have been a simply WPF app...
The reason I like ADW is because I can make the UX look close to what I would like it to be.

TouchWiz for Android 4/ICS = EPIC FAIL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ISAI6qbQm6U
Obviously this is a beta version of the upcoming samsung official ICS release for S2, it looks like a total catastrophe with TouchWiz..it looks NOTHING like beautiful Nexus Interface.
If it will look anything remotly similiar on the GNOTE it would be catastrophic..
Yeah agree. If the final looks like this i'm gonna flash vanilla ICS.. Well, i'll probably flash that either way.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
yes this is total dissapointment, all people expect a total new UI, and what we get is something that looks identlical to the interface we have right now... it does not look like ICS at all... looks more like gingerbread... what are Samsung thinking drop the TouchWiz crap, TouchWiz has played out it's roll... it feels like windows 7 but with the xp GUI...
We should send a protest list or something to samsung cause this looks like a total nightmare...all people expect the brilliance of the Nexus GUI.. but this looks even worse then I could imagine.
Long live cm9!!

I wouldn't mind vanilla ICS, but there'd better be a way to turn off the on-screen soft keys on phones that have hardware ones. Also, I can't stand having to reach all the way to the top of the phone for anything but notifications. The menu button at the bottom better continue to work the same.
The vanilla runs well on the fassy. Same stuff new version.

I think the phone will look odd with ICS anyway. You will have two rows of redundant keys, even though one may be not working.

To some one who have not used android before, can you explain to me what you mean with Vanilla ICS ????
You mean it will be possible to root with the standard ICS interface ?
Will the performance be as good as the official or will be lagging and buggs etc ?
Anyway, why it look so similar to todays gingerbread is maybe cause samsung are doing an half-hearted upgrade..
they have promised us ICS.. but they only seem to put small amount of energy to make a big update...
the interface looks identical etc.. Why I wanted ICS was cause it is basically a totally new OS...compared to gingerbread.

Stock Android. The way Google had intended it to look, feel, and perform.
This is unbelievably disappointing. I'm still glad I have my S2, because of the ASOP rom currently under development. I'll most definitely switch between phones whenever I want and just store any content that matters on an SD card, so my phone is virtually hot-swappable between devices.

Yes I understand that, but there will be no official version cause the stock version most be modified to be able to work with GNOTE ???
I just wonder if it is possible to port the ICS to GNOTE without any glitches and performance loss... how does past vanilla versions works for other phones ?

It depends on developer support. If the devs for CM9 can port it to the Note, than only then can we expect a (hopefully) fully functional ICS rom on the Note.
As it stands, Google only releases official vanilla roms to their Nexus line of phones, and they release the source for other manufacturers/devs to port to other phones.
I hope that answers your question mate, the way it was worded was a bit difficult to fully understand.

Well official as in with 'nothing' on it, no carrier or vendor tweaks/applications added and in this case, things like Touchwiz.
Also ICS was launched with Galaxy Nexus not Galaxy Note, but regardless I would presume that Samsung or another developer on XDA or any other forum will create a port to the Galaxy Note.
Vanilla just means that it doesn't have the other unnecessary stuff loaded e.g. Touchwiz. Vanilla is always compiled directly from AOSP source.
Why is everyone so angry about samsung including touchwiz into the ICS rom (I assume that's what this discussion is about?). Isn't the best thing about android the incredible ease of installing another launcher? Shouldn't the stock launcher just be a .apk away?

Well it's true what you said, but Samsung will skin almost everything.
The phone, browser, music player....all of them will be skinned with TW & I guess people in this thread (me include) prefer the stock ICS look and feel.
atm i looks not really nice, but! it is an internal beta, maybe even a alpha version, nobody knows if samsungs is just trying and looking if touchwiz is working under ics, i'm sure that they will make some more cosmetics for ics.
Dunno but no on saw the video? Didn't you something wrong or better few things that where not as expected on it? First the phone had a yellow triangle meaning Samsung had a problem flashing a non stock Rom on the phone. Second on the *#1234# if you not 100% eye sight old man here the csc is unknown.......... . Third the keys back and menu keys aren't functionally at all, only if they had the drivers for them to implant on csc so they could work. Fourth the browser not sure was on xda forums when he started? Or did I see wrong or now I know they where looking xda forum for a working csc file to make the buttons work.
And about touchwiz give me ics on note even with a touch I don't care, so someday the devs can make a custom Rom, on our needs. But they need to have something to play with and take some codes/ideas from the custom files.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Wow.. that is disappointing... i thought i could just flash back the stock rom when ICS is out. Now looks like I'm going to stay rooted for good.
