Samsung Galaxy S ROM port - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Had use of a Galaxy S for a week while my HD2 was info repair, really like the Samsung customisations, email, messaging, clock, music, all skinned very nicely.
Anyone know any ROMS with this stuff cooked in or perhaps some apps I can install to customise with.

The only thing I know of is the samsung launcher. It's only the launcher so I think its not much.
If I remember correctly, the widgets, apps, etc work only for the galaxy s.

It's inferior to all the options already available. That's probably why it hasn't been done.

inferiority is a matter of personal preference... I for one think that a full Galaxy s port would be neat...

I liked the galaxy s with touch wiz. liked it better then sense

In what way is it inferior?, have you used a Galaxy S more than for a few mins?, after a weeks usage I liked it better than the all of the NAND ginger ports by a long way. I would have kept it but I prefer the versatility of the HD2.

[q] what is the big deal about gingerbread

Ok i know a few will agree and many will not but i don't see what the big deal is with Gingerbread.
I looked at the visual interface and it's nothing new....No New interface( ui )
looked into the app drawer and nothing new there either..
the on;ly thing i see different is the Keyboard.....
Htc Sense is a real achievement when you're looking for something New and fresh...
Miui also is something BUG and NEW ( I don't feel like Gingerbread has lived up to all the expectations.... BUT I CAN BE WRONG . LOL )
So i've opened this thread to get some insight on what you all are really so hype up about......
Find out by urself, its pretty nice.
Here
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=difference+between+gingerbread+and+froyo
Ugh....wrong section go to q&a
Another thing... This is Android development!!! Not "Q&A" google whats new on Gingerbread 2.3! www.google.com
This thread is poop. Sense is Over rated, MIUI is amazing as an iOS UI copy, Stock 2.3 is clean and to the point.
http://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-android-2-2-froyo-and-android-2-3-gingerbread/
For starters its much faster and smooth. This comes from tighter organization of resources from what I have read, and this also helps with battery performance. and even if nothing else, this alone makes it a good upgrade. I mean even if you think of it as Android 2.2 just with better battery and seamless performance it is a very desirable thing.
But mainly it seems that the upgrades are in the background of the OS and not to the UI. Although that is not the most exciting thing the effect was immediately perceivable by me when I picked it up in Best Buy, which I was happy with.
And finally, I guess this is personal preference, but for those that like vanilla Android this a nice upgrade. Even the Froyo 2.2 that came on my Nexus One had some spamware in it (Amazon MP3, Facebook, Twitter, etc) but this comes with strictly Google apps, which is great. I have found that I personally dont get along with Sense or any of the other skins. Personally I havent found anything superior to Vanilla android with Launcher Pro (except CyanogenMod , which wont install on my Nexus One b/c I dont want to void the warranty )

New update is crap

I got excited when my new preowned hero had an update available
Thought maybe I was getting 2.2. No such luck. Just an update for 2.1 that just breaks Facebook contact sync.
So now I'm cm6.1 as 7 seems unstable. Keyboard transparency and the like. But no sense!
I love sense and I'd like to stay on 2.2 or above. Does anyone know if we will be getting an official HTC 2.2 or can someone suggest a nice fast 2.2 custom rom with sense?

Hi there
There won't be official 2.2.
Also - There are no fully working 2.2 baked roms with sense. Usualy there are huge problems with camera.
cheers
brat.haneq
Thanks. That's a real shame. Guess I'll stick with cm6.1. Maybe keep my eyes peeled for a nice 2.3.

Hi
Try Elelinux's Gingerbread Rom He does some pretty goody Roms
as for Sense you can try these two programs which do almost pretty much the same
Launcherpro plus and Beautiful Widgets together give you almost a sense like look
You might have to buy them if you really want them lovely effects
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB5mW8MySSk
the latest launcher pro has sense like calender and contacts and stuff
and beautiful widgets does clocks and stuff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm6Luip0nho
I did actually try elelinuxs cm7 based Rom but I was gettin transparent keyboards and black screens even with the patch.
I have currently settled on a 2.2 with sense Rom. I'm too keen on friend stream and the contacts and calendar. I sorta feel like I'm doin HTC an injustice if I don't use sense.
It's only the camera that doesn't work and tbh the hero camera is pretty gash.
Thank you both for your suggestions and ideas but I can't buy from the mrket otherwise I would try launcher pro plus and beautiful widgets.

What can you expect from a big company and 2 years old phone ...
Sense is a horrible resource guzzling interface anyhow. I am in the same situation, I have a HTC Hero GSM running CM6.1. I missed sense at first, but CM is so much faster and featureful. You can really customise your phone on CM, so stop whining like a *****.

Maybe so, but the Dialer, Calendar, Exchange Mail client and Clock/Alarms/Stopwatch/Timer apps are all great (in my opinion).

[Q] [REQUEST] TouchWiz 4.0 for HTC HD2

My friend got the Samsung Galaxy S2, and I got to play with it. I can say that i absolutely LOVE TouchWiz 4.0. So if any of the great devs on XDA are reading this, can you make a TouchWiz 4 port for the HTC HD2? Because i tried touchwiz 3 and it was not as good as 4, by a long shot. And if there isn't a port planned for development, can anyone link me to an APK or launcher?

Ughhh,i think I'm going to be sick
Why not? I'd like to try that

Surely it will be less buggy than an interface for a far more different phone?
i'm pretty sure someone is able to port
Check out the MIUI ROMs they have some of the TouchWiz incorporated into the ROMs.
TouchWiz 4.0 is already ported to Galaxy Tab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077641
Can someone try to port it for HD2?
Might I ask what about touchwiz you like? If it's in functionality, then sense, or any other rom as a matter of fact, offers the same.
I like how it looks like (almost like MIUI) and TW 4.0 has useful gesture support.
Sense 3.0 has only nice lockscreen, nothing else has changed since times of Desire.
And I really want to try that, cause SGS2 is to expensive for me...
I think the gesture controls need a gyroscrope also to work since they don't work with my cappy running tw4. Which the hd2 doesn't have or any other phone other than the age 2.

I went darkside and got myself a HD2

Not entirely darkside. Still a HTC
Man, it's so boring. There are like 200 roms out there.
There is no excitement what so ever. If there is a rom on the market, it means it will work with my device.
My guilty pleasure is windows mango at the moment. (Galaxy s2 is uber slow compared to the mango.) Also idiot proofness is way better than the IOS.
I'll definitely use android at the moment but I'll keep an eye on winmo. If MS puts some effort on this operating system, me (the android fanboy) is ready to ditch the android.
The other thing is, I used to dislike i.e. Now I passionately hate it.
I'd happily watch i.e's dev's salty feet being licked by mountain goats for hours. With a pop corn bucket and a big smile on my face.
Rant over. Thank you.

The reason is everything is so easy to access.
You can actually pin a part of an app to your homescreen. For example, you can pin a facebook group to your homescreen. You can do this for weather, stock exchange etc... apps. Makes life easier.
Messaging is perfect. Facebook, text, msn etc.. is integrated into 1 messaging app. Receive a text message, reply via facebook chat in the same screen/same conversation.
One email app does all. No need to install crappy yahoo mail app
On the flip side it needs developing. It is blend and boring as you said. I doesn't have much options to personalize your phone. And you don't feel like you are in control.
It is like IOS but much better.
Maybe the reason I like it because I can install android if I feel like. I wouldn't like to stuck with a winmo at the moment

Almost the same as an android phone. Root it, flash new bootloader, install CWM. Then you just flash the roms with CWM. (nandroid development)
You can also try roms without flashing. Just copy the rom to your sd card and click on the executable file. Then it reboots to your android rom on sd card. But it will be slow. (sd development)
are you not worrid about getting bad blocks - from over flashing - dont know much about it tbh

You just use sd version first to try the rom out. If you like it you can flash it to internal memory. On top of that I am not a flashoholic.
As far as I understand bad blocks usually occur in warm climates. Somehow android overheats the phone and it cooks itself.
Shouldn't be a problem in the UK.
thank god it only seems to occur in hot climates and not in UK .... I'm getting a hd2 soon and was worried about the bad block thing... good to know it should be fine

I am an old wild fire owner, now using hd2, bought it after I ditched hd7,sgs,dezire HD. My wild fire is only 5 months old, still not a single scratch, full kit, 5 months warranty remaining, besides all those, its still hibernating in my shelf for about 2 months, it will be blaming my hd2 for it!!! Man hd2 have no words.. I silently laugh at ads by Nokia and Samsung about their wp7 phones.
I had all of em if I want, straight in my hd2. Wp7 sp1, android 4, dual boot, meego, Ubuntu, what else? Symbian/ tizen? Oh no devz, servers are filled with roms for hd2, not any more.
But hey I love my wildfire. Its a Jr.mandrake. ics?? Poor guy is building muscles for it too.. why can't I, if my brothers can have ics? More over I can handle android 2.3.7 smoothly, then why not ics, woooohooo .... said my wildfire.

[Q] HTC Sense 4.0 on Samsung Galasy S4

Hi everybody,
one week ago I bought a new Samsung Galaxy S4.
It is a great mobil phone, but I really miss HTC Sense from my HTC One X+
So my question is:
Is there anywhere a "rom" or an other possibility to get HTC Sense on the S4??
Thx for your help.
tobi
Some people might be able to port it but they won't, infact lets say the most easy port will be for the I9505 only since the Exynos octa is too complicated and needs different librarys and files.... and another thing is that eventually when it ports your GS4 features won't work anymore since the Sense wizard doesnt support them which makes the GS4 useless it used to matter on old Cells when the hardware and software were almost identical and only the appearance changes but nowadays its a badass mutation that these pieces of Tech are going through
maybe someone will give you a launcher but not the whole Sense Wiz

You'll never have sense 4/5 on Samsung device many reasons for that lemme give you a few.
1. It would take forever to try and port it ( while the port would have sh1t load of buggs )
2. Pretty much requires the whole system cuz of framework.
3. Different drivers ( tho would be easier to port it on snapdragon s4)
4. HTC is never gonna give their codes since then everyone would have blink feed, HTC gallery etc, Zoe, you name it. Same with Samsung, everyone would have multiwindow etc what doesn't require hardware.
The only way you can have some type of sense would be getting launcher and downing icon packs.
Best would be flashing cm /aokp / aosp.
Getting icon pack for the launcher and downloading sense theme for cm
As for widgets there are bunch of them on the market or you could download uccw and make yourself some.
Anyway whatever you do it'll never be good as original. You'll always miss key features.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Edit:
On the other hand if you don't like the touch wiz you can pretty much have full Xperia system
Widgets, walkman, bravia, gallery, etc, you name it. Just look at xda or use search button.
