Hi,
I'm about to order an (unlocked) atrix on amazon but I still got a few things I want to be sure about before I do.
1. If I buy an unlocked atrix it should work perfectly fine in germany, right? I've read about some wifi problems but I heard they don't occur with the newer versions and there are also fixes available. Is that how it is?
2. I can run this script (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871) to at first unlock the bootloader and then root & install recovery, right? So basicall after I run this script I can just download a rom and install it via recovery just like on any other android phone, right?
Thanks in advance
1. Yes. I have AT&T Atrix, traveling around and works everywhere including Germany
2. Yes, I used it to unlock and root. Anyway, be very careful. Read all guide few times, understand it, charge battery, prepare yourself... and good luck.
Just remember, one unlock is for carrier and second is for bootloader. If you buy unlocked phone, it means unlocked from carrier. Unlocking booloader you are going to lose warranty.

+1000 to this. You need to be 100% sure before doing anything with this phone. It is brickable. The key here is to avoid flashing SBF files. As long as you flash stuff with CWR, you are fine. Good luck. And don't hesite to buy the Atrix, its a pretty nice phone. Im very impressed with it.
Wifi issue has been confirmed one year ago for the Atrixs were running on the first firmware (Froyo 2.2 - FW version 1.2.6). But just after a bit of time, Moto realeased new update and issue has been corrected and the wifi has been being amazing till now
There are two unlockings. Carrier unlocking and bootloader unlocking. Both allow you to take the atrix out of AT&T to use worlwide and install any custom rom, especially CM7 or Webtop full Ubuntu mod, the ones defined what is a power device

Hi all, just got an upgrade this week to the Atrix and thoroughly enjoying it so far. As a poweruser with the HD2 and all the hacks involved like android on nand etc, the first thing I did out of the box was root it.
Now to my point, all the custom roms I'm seeing seem to be for At+t and Bell (is that the right carriers?), and the forum is Atrix 4G. So can I as a UK user use these same roms/radios that are outlined in the development forum?
Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.
Greetings. I have the same backround as you . I nearly stayed with my hd2 but i'm glad I didn't. The only gingerbread rom for us is the orange one in the dev forum. I have had no success flashing this yet. Soft bricked 3 times and counting.
There is an international fruit cake in the works rich we will be able to flash from CWM.
So far rooting is fine.
Unlockingbootloader is fine.
flashing Cwm if fine.
I keep meaning to start a t-mob uk thread to collect all the info for us uk tmob users into one place. I will get round to it eventualy if some one doesn't beer me to it.

Hi there.
I am on Orange U.K, and i have successfully flashed this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169409. Following this guide to flash the ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167373.
Many international users have flashed this ROM as well but REMEMBER to unlock your bootloader before even considering flashing this ROM.
When unlocking your bootloader, you will notice that you will only have around 300 total RAM but if you flash the hack relevant to your device, you will retain your RAM when you flash to Gingerbread.
Please follow the guide properly and don't skip any step. BTW, if your bootloader is not unlocked, we will probably be getting Gingerbread soon since the SOAK testing is about to begin very soon.
Similar story, i'm on Orange, followed those steps and it's working great. Just had to replace the missing sound files, but apart from that, works a treat.

Now since we have an unlocked bootloader, you can flash any ROM. Just make sure you flash the proper boot.img for your phone. See the fixes section for the pudding thread.

I thought we still had to be careful with the Roms, as some of them contain files that are tied to the kernel version (until the port everything over). For example, the ninja rom, I believe it is crrently tied to AT&T at the moment. I presumed we had to wait for a safe INTL version..
I think we can install and lunch any Rom now. The only limitation for inte. users is Ram issue. Otherwise will work fine.

great, thanks. Maybe I'll try another rom then I'd like one without any MotoBlur stuff on it, although the French 2.3.4 is running very well.
I just got my replacement atrix today, im trying to figure out whether I should update it to the 2.3.4 OTA or not. My old atrix I had unlocked on 1.83 and was running cherryblur. Is it easier to unlock on 1.83 or the new OTA or are both easy now?

Basically, if want to be adventurous with the ROMS and crazy modifications, then root and unlock bootloader, or if you are fine with the official OTA update. Then just stick with those. I am sticking with OTA since I don't want to brick since I am using my ATRIX for college and job and need a reliable phone. I might root it though if I can figure it out.
My modding fun is with my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. That's my xda fun.

I was glad OTA keeps ALL of your settings and applications. I did it, only because Motorola says they will unlock the bootloader. When that happens I figure I'll finally root and go wild with ROMs, because my 1 year warranty may be close to expiring anyway.
For me, with no other changes but the OTA upgrade, my battery life BLOWS me away. I used to get down to 10-15% after 9 hours, casual internet and lots of mp3 playback.
Now I only get down to 45% doing the same exact stuff! Astonishing.
If you are waiting for unofficial unlock support from Motorola, do the OTA. you will be happy in the interim
Im already planning to unlock it and put roms on it, just wondering if its easy to unlock on 2.3.4 or if I should just keep it at 1.83. Cause froyo sucks and I wont have time to do anything on it til sunday.

According to this thread here:
http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/mo...official-2-3-4-build-4-5-91-can-i-unlock.html
you can still unlock but there is a small risk of bricking -- unlocking before flashing to 2.3.4 OTA is advised (or do what I did and click the first link on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261 , run the SBF via RSD Lite 5.31 & motorola's drivers (you can find them on their site in the Atrix section)), send the unlock command via fastboot, and follow the rooting instructions -- all of which are again on the same first link on that page.
EDIT:
This allows you to flash an unlocked bootloader, GB 2.3.4 update, as well as root, all via one file. Remember that there are instructions to follow, it doesn't unlock or root for you, but provides all three as part of a flashable file.
Others feel free to chime in -- I'm only explaining what I did and worked for me. I understand that the general concensus is that SBF file carry a higher risk than other methods of flashing.
I just need little help. I will just ask basic question.
i have done homework on how to root, unlock bootlocker etc...
but little worry about before proceeding.
Today i have brought Atrix from a person . he was saying that it was imported from USA.

Not sure whether your phone is ATT. Fruitcakes are safer than SBF, but need an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery to flash. From the time you are able to flash fruitcakes, you have the same prerequisites necessary to flash a custom ROM. Root is not manually necessary because it is in most (if not all) customs ROMs for our Atrix. Good luck, friend.

Because I was toooo excited and worry
but anyway somehow i manage to settle all things well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871&page=78
my policy always read more talk less but i get frustrated if i cannot understand a thing.
Hello Everyone,
I am a new Atrix owner who just received the phone with .91 installed.
Before I go to a custom ROM (CM7, ICS, etc), I always like to check out the factory ROM to see what its all about.
Obviously, AT&T is hounding me to upgrade to .141, which is something I would like to do just to see any changes/improvements.
If I upgrade to .141, I see there's a new way to root the phone (well, it looks new anyway) -- how about installing custom ROMs, am I still able to do that if I go to .141? I've been trying to read as much as I can. It appears there are issues with going to .141 if you have a unlocked bootloader, but that isn't me (yet!).
Thanks,
Chris
I would unlock the bootloader first then flash a fruitcake of the new update. The fruitcake will be the same as if you updated normally but you will maintain your unlocked bootloader and root without the risk of bricking your phone. That way if you don't like it you can switch to a custom ROM. As far as I'm aware you can't unlock the bootloafer once you update. I could be wrong about that though.

1. +1, it would make more sense to just flash a fruitcake
2. Yes, you can unlock the bootloader if you have updated to .141, but I have only read it working for people who had previously unlocked it.

Thanks to you both for responding -- I'm still trying to read up on the Atrix, so having this info really helps. I will go ahead and unlock/root with .91 and then do a Fruitcake upgrade (and then eventually do a real ROM! )
Thanks again guys for your replies. I really like the phone so far -- screen is just the right size, battery life is very nice (a huge plus), and its thin and light. Good stuff!
Chris
Just got another email from Motorola to sign up for a preview of a new software release. Probably fixes issues that were discovered after the KK upgrade.
CAUTION FOR THOSE WITH LOCKED DEVICES: Considering you just got a new root method, I would steer clear from this if you want to keep root. I have a feeling Towelroot will not work after this since it only works for kernels dated before June 3, 2014. Also, this might break the current tethering hack as well for 4.4.2.
It would be nice if this were a 4.4.3 update, but I don't know at this time. Since I'm unlocked, I'm going to go ahead and sign up for it and see what happens.
Just wanted to get the word out to anyone with locked bootloaders to probably stay away from this unless you don't care about root and the tethering hack.
The bad news about this means the "can I unroot my KitKat phone" won't go away once the OTA comes out.
Pretty obvious that locked users should be careful with the new OTA, same as before, don't rush ahead of yourself and install every OTA that Moto pushes out. Also today is a great day, we've got a root and apparently locked users can unlock their bootloader while being on 183.46.10 update. So I'd rather recommend people to take root and unlock and do whatever the hell they want after that, considering rooting and unlocking is as simple as just installing and running 2 apks.

What? Locked users can unlock the bootloader? How? I didn't see that. Motopocolypse, from what I understand, doesn't work with anything after 9.16 OTA. I got lucky and was able to unlock mine about a year ago (didn't have 9.18 OTA applied from the factory). Still, if people can unlock their bootloaders with the KK, that's great, but again, I have not heard nor seen anything that states this. I only knew about Towelroot and that's it.
As for it being obvious, didn't matter after this past KK upgrade. People did it anyways and we got an unflux of "how do I root this sucker?" over and over again.

I guess I'll be late and you've found that after upgrading to KK and rooting it, you can unlock bootloader with Motopocalypse ^^. Also idk why wouldn't anyone want to unlock BL, considering the phone is on its end of life cycle and won't get anymore android updates (e.g 4.5+) it seems rather wise to unlock and have all the goodies now and in the future.

I see you guys have been using the tether mod I posted for the ultra. no problem, I developed a new mod for 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 so if it does break tether and can make one for the HD.

Awesome. Thanks a bunch for that. I'll definitely want to try it out once I the new OTA comes in. Since I have an unlocked bootloader, I'm not too frightened to do the OTAs, but to know that we can get another tether mod if it does indeed break with the next OTA, that's a relief.
tether seems broken..

Just to confirm, from what I can tell yes the tether hack seems to have broken, I am rooted, unlocked and all that good stuff so I can always flash back, but as a warning I tried to get it working again with no success.
Now I am not ruling out the possibility that I am a dope and screwed up the procedure somewhere, in which case I pray someone can confirm it works and maybe teach a fool to fish .
