Farewell my minions, and my beloved dINC! - Droid Incredible General

As of 5 minutes ago, I just bought the Droid RAZR MAXX- so it's time for me to say my goodbyes to all the people who may or may not know me
If I come back here a few days later, bagging about my phone, don't kill me. I'll probably be really stoked about my new MAXX and turn out being the douche master on the INC forums for bragging about all the fancy new specs it has and comparing it with a phone that a year and a half old.
Loved and still love this phone, been through good times and bad times, replaced the screen, speaker, many cases, many different batteries. I spent days modifying the ROM, customizing my setup, kernel, all that good stuff. I even used it to win over a couple of Apple fanboys to Android. But the time has come..

Someone from the dINC forum posted on the RAZR forum and I answered their question, I guess it sort of sums up why.
1: What is the ppi on my incredible, first one, 3.7".
252 PPI
2: What is ppi on Razr maxx
256 PPI
3. What is the story with maxx bootloader locked? How does that affect roms and rooting?
Yes the bootloader is locked, but the phone is rooted. What this means is you are able to fully flash new ROM's, but are not able to flash new kernels, CDMA radios, and splash screens.
4. Is razr maxx much of an upgrade over my HTC Droid incredible.
dINC vs MAXX
- 512MB vs 1024MB of RAM
- very slow GPU vs fast GPU
- single core 1GHz and older generation CPU vs dual core 1.2 newer generation CPU
- 3.7" screen vs 4.3" screen (it's not bulky and can fit in jean pockets fine)
- 1300 mAh vs 3300 mAh (with combination of more battery efficient processor, and screen, it lasts much longer)
- 8GB internal vs 16GB internal
- TV out (eww) vs HDMI out
- 720p max recording vs 1080p max recording
- no front camera vs front camera
- 2.1 Bluetooth vs 4.0 Bluetooth
- dINC poorly runs rooted ICS vs MAXX will be getting ICS within weeks-months via official release and has nearly identical GPU and identical CPU hardware to the Galaxy Nexus, so ICS should run flawless (ICS is currently a ROM available for flashing, but it still has some bugs to be worked out)
- glass that has broken on my dINC vs Gorilla glass
- MAXX also has 2 other hardware features that help the GPS lock quicker and more accurately than the dINC.
- MAXX is splash resistant (coated with water repellent)
- probably more, but I give up on trying to remember.
5: How is razr maxx radio signal strength? I tried Galaxy Nexus which said 3g more then 4G at my home and even lost connection a few times. HTC Rezound had good mostly 4G at my home.
The MAXX's 1x and 3G radio is very strong. Motorolla has always had great 1x and 3G radios and a big difference compared to my HTC dINC or my sisters dumbphone.
LTE is good as well, but if it gets a weak signal then it won't try to keep it (while draining more battery), it'll just drop it for 3G.
6: What does the modding community look like for razr maxx?
Sadly, not very well. The locked bootloader and the fact that Motorola has angered many hard core DEVs have made this possible
There is still hope our bootloader will get unlocked, actually someone just yesterday has managed to bypass the bootloader lock on the GSM phone but is still ironing out a bug. He hopes to get it done on the Verizon CDMA phone soon, so fingers crossed.

A little part inside of my died when I decided I was getting the maxx. I've decided that I'll still be keeping my dINC though, as a separate music player and gadget-type thing so I'll still be sticking around

Poq, you decided to keep it? Good choice. As I haven't found a phone that sounds as sweet with my skullcandy titans to this day.

Yeah. I started writing up the auction for eBay, then I figure I'd have to ship it out.. and I'd probably get less than ~100$ for it.
Better to keep it and use it myself even if I won't be using it often. Plus I've spent way too much of my life modding the crap out of it, I wouldn't want that work to go in vain

And why am I still here? I like the Inc forums way better than the Nexus forums.

What am I going to do now?

I bet I am not the only one feeling like this is the end of the line for my EVO.
I got MikG 2.1 on my phone and it is basically running as good as the hardware will let the EVO run. What now? I have been flashing OSs since the Blackberry days and I feel a big let down. I don;t see me going to the EVO 3D as it would not really improve my EVO experience all that much. I use my phone for business and personal stuff and it is doing a very good job.
What now???
I would go for the Galaxy S II when it comes out, or something else, since good things are coming.
The Galaxy SII looks good but I have not had very good luck with Samsung phones. SMH
As crazy as it might sound, I would consider going back to a Blackberry if they came out with a 4" plus screen. Like a Storm4. Crazy right? LOL
I feel the same way, on MikG 2.1 as well. The phone is just working too well to mess with! Can't complain about that. Don't worry though, just like with the hero ROMs and improvements will keep coming. The EVO is just in a weird place because handsets are more powerful now, it is a year old, and still keeps up rather than being totally outdated.

Very weird; I had to use my sister's Blackberry when my first Evo went missing, then got a replacement; I hated it, little keyboard, had to go all backways just to get something simple, like an alarm, and had to use the calendar to have more than one.
Personally, I would recommend you at least try the Galaxy S II; I've had good experiences with Samsung products [for what its worth], the phone will be a powerhouse, and if you don't like it, can always return it within the 30 days.

I still have my evo. I'm currently stripping it down to barebones and using my tablet for everything else. I was working on an updated gingerbread rom but those plans have changed now. The evo is still a great device as a phone and as a smartphone. It's just a shame people jumped ship just to have the latest and greatest. I simply just added what I wanted which was the htc evo view tablet.
I would go to a Sprint store or Radio shack and play with the Evo 3D. I thought i wouldn't like it after seeing all the negative reviews, but when I played with it in person, I was really impressed. Just seemed way better than I thought, and I even dig the 3D now.
I just posted my Evo on Craigslist a few minutes ago. If I get a buyer, I'll go get the 3D. Thought about waiting for the GS2, but not really a fan of Samsung phones...and the development community the 3D seems to be building up outweighs the specs for me.

The 3D is a really fast phone, played around with it yesterday but other then that I see no reason to pick it up. If it's not broken why mess with it?
Yeah some of the devs have moved onto the 3D, but this phone is far from dead. Let the excitement die down a bit and you will have plently of roms to flash in the future.

That's sidestepping the question though. He didn't ask what the difference was. He asked what could it do the Evo couldn't? Having a longer battery life is certainly nice, though. But as of right now, I can't see the dual core and ram being useful... maybe in six months?

Must of misread the question. The dual core plus more ram will be a huge factor on how much faster roms will run once these devs get root access. It will totally blow the Evo out of the water in that aspect for sure.

Lol no I've had a g2x dual core overclocked to 1.5ghz
Then moved to Sprint .. got the EVO 4G..
Now I have the EVO 3d.. even with "development" nothing will be much faster
We need ice cream to utilize the dual core/adreno220 chip set...
As for more RAM.... Hardly I'm at 122-200 mbs free... That means over 70% is being used for sense 3.0 and OS...
Honestly I'm selling my EVO 3d for a EVO 4g and a laptop in two days.... Don't bother with this 3vo as they call it... It honestly isn't much of an improvement
The only thing I can seeing it be good with is a stock aosp ROM like miui or cm
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I am beginning to think the same way. I would not watch 3D movies on my EVO or take 3D videos. As tot he dual processor, what exactly will that do for me? Get my emails faster? Dial out faster? Surf the internet faster? Not unless we get steady 4G speeds or even really good 3G speeds. On wifi my EVO flies and does pretty good when I get good 3G service. So I am not sure what I would gain. I know when I went from Storm1 to Storm2 it was supposed to be such a big improvement but I did not see that much. I like Sense so I am not sure if I would go to Samsung but never know. I think I would switch more for longer battery life if a phone came out with that kind of technology. But, I don't see how these faster processors are going to help with that.

[Q] Is the Atrix worth leaving the Inspire?

I'm sure there are threads out there on this already, so I will make it short.
With the problems that the inspire has (bad internal antenna, sound quality, and so forth) is it worth switching to the Atrix, or should I head towards a different device? AT&T is pushing me for an early upgrade as I've exchanged 4 of the inspires for different reasons, and I'm not about to buy a phone that has a ton of issues.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
And, to add to it, I'm looking at the new Samsung Infuse, and the Captivate as a potential replacement. No reason to go back to a "regular" phone...
Sent from my Inspire using XDA App
Well the captivate is really outdated, and soon will the inspire will be to, the atrix is more future proof than both those phones
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
It is. It's all around better. No Sense, either. Lol
I owned an Inspire for a while and couldn't stand it. I'm happy with the Atrix.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I would go with atrix. I would stay away from phones that utilize amoled screens because of their inability to display whites correctly, huge power consumption when displaying any color other than black, burn in issues and color oversaturation.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
If you're happy to unlock BL and flash custom ROM then hell yes go for it. The hardware is excellent for the price and considerably futureproof (dual core 1Gb RAM = enough grunt for foreseeable future). It also has my ideal form factor (4").
However in its stock state I would recommend pretty much any other dual core phone aside from the LG2X. You'd be surprised how few people realise its dual core based on their impressions of the speed of the default launcher/home (ie its not that great unlike the immediate WOAH of SGS2 stock or the glitz of sense). Other minor niggles IMO include slightly buggy bluetooth (compared to my other droids), , power/usb is on the left, not bottom, and if you don't actually use the fingerprint reader feature, the power button placement is less than ideal.
Like I said thou once you custom ROM/kernel it absolutely flies
However to each their own, maybe you like motoblur (if I was addicted to social media I could see myself liking it a lot more) and don't mind the AT&T restrictions (no native SIP, have to pay for tethering).
Yep, bought one outright off contract today. Well worth it.
Stay away from Captivate
1. The Motorola Atrix is the best smart phone I ever had
2. The Samsung Captivate was the worst piece of crap I ever had. Went through 3 of them before finally giving up. Stay away from this one.

Well you're asking in atrix forum, so HE'LL NO, don't go for it. All jokes aside, its a worthy successor to The nexus one. Surprised me. Slcd is impressive. And blinding at lowest brightness. And once you unlock bootloader and root it, the least you can do is flash a stock rom minus some of the bloat to get your toes wet on how capable it is.

Atrix doesn't have any major issues if you ask me (antenna, sound quality are all great).
+ We have an unlocked bootloader and CM7 on the way. With vanilla android Atrix will be amazingly future proof.
Go for the ATRIX. Its totally worth the 4g and dual cores.

I have both atrix and inspire... The inspire has a much nicer ui tons of custom roms let's just say tons of eye candy it runs smoothly when overclocked mine is at 1.3ghz but can go up to 1.8ghz... Battery life sucks but can be tweaked for example my phone when asleep runs at a little over 300mhz and when on runs at 1.3ghz so it gives a full day with moderate use gps is the second best I've seen 1st being the Atrix of course solid build some say feels too heavy.. I like it.
My atrix like many people said is more future proof ui not so pretty great loud speaker comparable to the blackberry bold 9000 awesome GPS can't be beat by any mobile phone qhd display if you like that icons and keyboard seem soooo small after using the inspire for a while picture quality is grainy compared to inspire which is 8mp looks like iphone quality HD recording too me seems smoother on atrix... With the ui on the inspire it seems to do more then blur... Sense is integrated more with facebook and twitter in every aspect.. Sound on the headset on both devices are loud and clear so it's basically comes down to what you like

worth it. it's a different level than the inspire. high resolution qhd display (ebooks look gorgeous with all those pixels crammed in), first dual core in a smart phone, 4g, high capacity battery. i believe i read that it is the biggest on a smart phone to date.the specs alone put inspire down hard. and on top of that active indie devs? go for it dude.
don't let that massive screen on the infuse hypnotize you. compare the actual display resolution. a full web page renders better on atrix than anything else att offers

First of all, you're asking this in an Atrix Forum so I can only guess what most responses are going to be ; )
But seriously, I originally had an Inspire and I can honestly say that the Atrix has better functionality with battery life, screen resolution, call quality, etc. I would stay away from the Infuse since it has been rumored that AT&T's SGS2 variant should be out this month and they might also be offering a model with a pretty damn good looking keyboard on it as well.

My main qualms are it's a little big (this can be gotten used to), not removable sd card or battery, and not on VZW.
I could ask for plenty of things:
a battery that will last through a day
it can run Crysis
dual-boot Windows 8
1080p display
integrated subwoofer for actual bass from phone speaker
but mostly I ask for a removable SDcard, or at least a slot for another like on the Inc. Seriously, HTC? My 40GB right now isn't sufficient, I'd really love 32GB internal + SD slot. 64GB internal + SD slot would be even better though

You importing that One X? the One series isn't Tegra 3 in America. It's a dual core Snapdragon 4 chip which is equally as nice. Neither AT&T or Verizon will carry high end non-lte phones.

Actually according to benchmarks the S4 chip runs circles around the Tegra 3 in all except gaming graphics where the two are mostly equal with T3 having the slight edge.

Not really too impressed with any thing on vzw right now so i am holding out on upgrading. I do like the one series but not willing to switch carriers.
Just waiting for something new to show on vzw. Nothing exciting out there now. Starting to get impatient. Thinking SIII is it ever hits market!!!!

You should get the Rezound! Don't you miss dmeadows, wildstang, newtoroot, and joelz?! Lol. Plus some different devs I've never had experience with before this, like |||bored|||, scrosler, who are extemely good devs with good reputations. Even if the one x was on Verizon, I wouldn't consider it over the Rezound with our awesome community. Newt already got us Sense 4, even

Haha, cool. I think Joel will have a Sense 4 rom up in about 2 weeks, because Newtoroot fixed data for it, spent about 2 months writing code for it to work on this phone, and so he's asking devs to wait at least two weeks before using his as a base. Pretty impressive work from him though really. And dmeadows has been trying to get data working on cm9/aosp for us, lots of progress, but still not yet complete, shouldn't be too long though, I'm sure

As much as I'd like a One X, or the new Evo (One X plus microSD minus design), I'm sticking with Verizon until they take away my unlimited data.
Because of this, I'm waiting for the Incredible 4G.
The specs should be similar to the One S, and it's supposed to come out April 26th, which would be perfect for all of us Incredible owners who got it at launch with a new 2year contract. I'll be eligible for my 2 year upgrade right when this new one comes out.
As long as the specs hold up, I'll take it.

If? It's definitely coming out. It's just the exact date and specs that are still rumors at this point.
Right now April 26th is the rumored release date, and that looks pretty credible (and right in line with the original Incredible and Incredible 2 releases)
In terms of specs...
It's supposed to have the dual-core snapdragon S4 (drool), clocked at 1.2 (it's not 1.5 but I'll take it. This processor is a beast)
1GB RAM
Sense 4 is a given
It's supposed to have an 8MP camera in the back (VGA FFC) and if it's anything like it's One X and S brothers, quality should be excellent. Pictures only show a single LED flash, which is a bummer, but not that big of a deal.
4.3" display is the best guess right now, although some people are thinking they may stick with 4" like the Inc 2. Either way, it's not expected to be 720p (qHD is the latest rumor). Personally, I'm hoping for 4.3" but that's probably not a deal breaker either. I've done ok with my OG Inc for 2 years and even 4" would be an improvement.
Display technology is probably going to be the biggest bummer. It's not going to have that GORGEOUS Super LCD 2 display that the One X and Evo 4G LTE have. It will probably be your standard AMOLED (maybe super). I don't mind that much though. I'm not one of those people who feel so pationately about display quality that they can write pages and pages on contrast and color accuracy and blah blah blah...
Pictures show all 4 of the old capacitive buttons, which is a little strange. Perhaps it's an earlier prototype and they've changed it? Personally, I'd be fine. I know menu is being phased out, but a lot of apps still use it so I wouldn't mind having a menu button for 2 more years. For multitasking, I've always found long-press on home to be more than sufficient... I felt that the dedicated button was extraneous. And as for search... removing that button was a big mistake in my opinion. Yes, there's the search bar at the top of the desktops (actually, that's not even the case in Sense 4), but without the search button you don't have access to voice actions from anywhere in the OS, which SUCKSSS.

EDIT: I also wouldn't be surprised if there's two models, a black and a white. There will clearly be a white version, based on the pic, but I can't think of a lot of phones that offer just white, without also releasing black (usually before white). That's just my own thinking though.
ANOTHER EDIT: Some things that we don't have any rumors on, and some things that a lot of people are probably interested in are:
Removable Battery?
microSD slot?
NFC?
Personally, I dont really care much about NFC. Sure, it'd be great, but there's not a lot of stuff to take advantage of it yet. As for microSD, it's certainly preferred, but not a deal-breaker for me. I stream a lot of my content since I have unlimited data, but I do download a lot of podcasts, many of which are video, so the space would be good. Even though it's not that big of an issue for me, I can see how some people may have a serious issue with lack of a microSD slot. The removable battery is my biggest priority of those three things I listed. Although I'll probably get the phone either way, I will be SOOOO disappointed if it's not a removable battery. But then again, battery life should be pretty great given the S4, so maybe it won't bother me as much.

haha. I figured everyone in here would already know about the Incredible 4G. I've been following it very closely since the pics were released. I even set up a google alert on it a couple weeks ago so I wouldn't miss anything
I think it's going to be really popular because
(a) Like the OG Incredible, when it gets released it will be the best phone (by far) available on Verizon at that time (the same can't be said for the Incredible 2)
and
(b) It's being released pretty much exactly 2 years after the OG Incredible, so people like me who are up for their 2 year upgrade will flock to it.
(I'm also hoping that, especially because of "b" above, that there will be a good dev community behind it)

Upcoming Incredible 4g model...

As, I approach my upgrade time. I am pondering my options... and wondering what others are thinking.
When I first read about this phone model (the upcoming Incredible 4g), I was not not especially impressed. But with more leaked info, I wonder is this actually my ideal (or very near ideal) phone.
1. It supposedly will have the S4 Krait processor. This is an upgrade over anything currently on Verizon. I didn't realize that it was going to get this processor. If it doesn't have this processor, then I really don't have any interest. I thought the Incredible 4g was just a smaller Rezound. I was wrong. This processor is an improvement over phones like the Rezound and G Nexus.
2. I have not liked the idea of the newer phones eliminating the SD card. This phone will have a SD card slot... plus 8 gigs internal.
3. It will have a removable battery, another thing that myself and many others have not liked about other new models coming out. I have managed to get excellent life out of my stock Dinc1 battery... but I've always been happy to know that there are bigger replacements available if I wanted them... or if the stock battery were to get weak with age.
4. I am torn by the manufacturers making screens bigger and bigger on phones (and with greater and greater numbers of pixels to control and illuminate). Those screens sure look nice... but I'm not crazy about how much power they use. The Incredible 4g has a qHD 4" screen, so it should look nice enough, and not use that much juice (compared to the 720p phones with 4.7" screens). Also importantly to me, it will be comfortable to stick in my pockets. I just don't watch movies or TV shows on my phone. Yeah, I've done it, just to do it. But, I've got more comfortable options... like our couch and plasma TV (or even our computers).
5. Integrated LTE on the chip? 4g speeds... less battery usage than current 4g phones... thaz awesome...
6. 1gig RAM... same as everything else out there...
7. Nice enough camera (same as ONE series)... Beats (meh whatever)... etc...
8. I do play games, to kill time on my phone, but I often tend to prefer the casual type puzzle games. High performance gaming isn't especially important to me, but still this phone should be nicely capable of playing most games very well.
I know this phone does not follow the "slim and sexy" trend that is happening in phone fashion. I just wonder if I am the only weirdo "anti-fashion" person out there. Plus it looks to be reasonably priced. Anybody else think this phone looks preferable than the other new options coming?
And most importantly... anybody think this phone will get good developer support? Just wondering how others view this phone...
I also approach my upgrade time (I think its in June) and as it approaches I'm paying more attention to what's out there. This new incredible seems to hit all the right spots. The only thing I wish it had wad a 720p screen. Qhd certainly isn't a deal breaker though.
I'm eagerly awaiting the announcement of the Incredible 4G. However I'm also waiting to see what the Galaxy S3 has to offer. I may end up waiting a little longer for that. I dont mind morw waiting as I love my incredible and its simply the best phone I've ever owned.
If my incredible broke today and I was offered an early upgrade id probably opt for a Razr Maxx.

Does the early upgrade cost more ?
not exactly. early upgrade is an incentive.
verizon emailed me an early upgrade offer for 50 bucks off any new phone last week...
and today snail mailed me an offer for 100 dollars off.
they just want you contracting another 2 years... thats where the real money is at.
My upgrade was up the first of April, and I watched it go by. Honestly, for what I really do with the phone it just didn't make sense to drop the coin on something new that would meet or exceed some of my expectations but let me down in others.
One of the biggest drawbacks to most of these phones coming out (IMO....) is the size of em. Damn, if I wanted an Ipad, I'd buy the dang thing.... These new phones look beautiful but having to wear a hubcap around my waist because it won't fit in my pockets anymore, I just don't dig.
I have been so pleased with the first gen INC that when I heard the INC 4g was coming out, and the screen size, man, I said that's the ticket, faster, and still good size, removable batt, sd card, I'm in, I'm all in......
You raise a very good argument on the OP. The only thing I would need is a guarantee that Devs will get CM9 running on it. My Dinc right now is perfect with CM9.
Not sure how many Inc devs can or will get the Inc 4g due to all getting the rezound. And there's no guarantee of anything before its done. Most likely it will get cm9 but don't quote me on that.
And ics, while OK on the Inc is far from perfect. Camcorder and video don't work 100% on cm9. One of the reasons I got the nexus is to have the best initial support with ICS working smooth without any complex porting.

I'm glad to see some people with something positive to say about this phone. There has been a lot of bad reaction out there for what ever reason. I suspect its people just not understanding about the processor. I've got an upgrade on the 25th, and this thing is supposed to hit the 26th. I'm pretty excited.
I'll probably use it the first month pretty much stock, and then start branching out as things become available. Also looking forward to CM9. I may keep a recovery around to play with and one for actual use with 100% function. If it doesn't come with a 32 gb class 10 sd card, that will be my first upgrade to it. Hoping they pack a nice battery in it.
I think as a OneS variant, there won't be too much difficulty finding devs to take interest.

Well we have 4 days til launch, almost 3, and we've received no word of demo units coming in. So unless they come in tomorrow, I'm doubting that April 26th launch. Perhaps that's when the demo units are coming in? I believe the leaked documents did say "Device workshop" on April 26th.(Although I'm not all too sure what that is). It definitely should be coming within the next two weeks if it misses that release date though.
This phone will certainly be the perfect phone for me when it comes out, if the rumored specs are true. Really hoping this phone gets good dev support too.
We've been discussing the Incredible 4G for a while over in this thread, and I'll repeat my overall opinion here: When this phone comes out it will be hands-down the best phone available on Verizon. All of the websites out there that call it mid-range are out of their minds.
Here are some thoughts I have on some of the OP's points:

The processor is not the only improvement over the Rezound... there are so many more. The only reason people compare this phone to the Rezound is the aesthetic similarity. That's really the only thing these two phones have in common.

That is likely, but not a given. Early reports were able to 100% confirm some things like "yes, it has a microSD slot." Those reports didn't come right out and say that the battery is removable though. But, they did say that the backplates are interchangeable, which is a good indication that we'll have battery access

It certainly wont be sexy... it's an Incredible. Have you seen these things?
That said, it will be slim and light. Probably not as much as the One S (because this one needs LTE and the One S probably has a little more room to stuff things because of the bigger screen), but the initial reports are that it is very thin and light.

On Verizon, absolutely. There is nothing better. That is, as long as you are cool with the smaller screen size
The only reason not to get it is the screen size... A lot of people have been begging for a high-end 4" phone, and now they finally have one. That said, some people just "need" those mammoth 4.5+" screens. If you're one of the latter, then this phone is probably not the best bet.
For everyone else though, this will be the best phone you can get when it comes out... and the price is looking like it will cost less than the original incredible did at release, which is a bonus

It has to. There's no way they would release it without the S4 (at least, not for more than like 50 bucks)
Sidenote: I'm a bit bummed by the price. I never really believed the "$100 or $150" rumors, but I was hoping that Verizon would stop the $299 madness and go back to $199 that used to be the standard (and is becoming the standard again on other carriers... look at the new Evo for example)
Althought... the site was never really intended to go live... so maybe they just copied a template and hadn't actually finished with it... i.e. hadn't fixed the price yet.
And for anyone who wants to see the leak itsmefu was talking about...

Oh, lol. Yea, I don't think even the Motoroloas actually put "Droid" on the device.
Thanks for the additional info demarcmj. I certainly am not any authority on this phone. If anything I said was untrue, it was unintentional. Mostly I was expressing my opinions about the phone specs, just for myself, and they way I would use it.
I'm glad you shared your thoughts and could bring better detailed info.
For example: The comment about the "nice enough" camera was a little tongue in cheek. It is an excellent camera, for a phone camera. I've got other gear for taking pictures. For me, the camera on my Dinc1 is "nice enough". I really only use it for scanning QR codes.
I'm pretty bummed about the $299 price tag, too. The One X is on ATT for $199.
The Incredible 4g (with its non-HD screen) is not going to sell many units at $299. That is craziness, Verizon.

So I have a Droid X2, near the end of its service cycle, and I am strongly looking into the Razr HD.
What are your initial thoughts? Immediate pros/cons, your last phone, etc.

Personally, I've owned the Droid X, and the X2, and then switched carriers. Now that I'm back on Verizon, I just got the RAZR HD and it's WELL worth it, in my opinion. I have used the Galaxy S3 & One X and this surpassed them both (in my opinion). I love the fact that the interface is smooth and fast, as well as a more vanilla android experience. There is so much to be said since they got away from MotoBlur (since Motorolla Mobility was purchased by Google). The only issue I had with my previous Moto Droids has been well taken care of.
This will feel just like your Droid X2, that's what it reminded me of when I started using it (to be quite honest)! Plus, if you are interested in rooting and such, it's barely 24 hours and there is already a root solution.
As well as the statement that Jelly Bean will be available before the end of the year, that is also a good indication that the phone is ready and waiting for it (obviously).
These are opinions, and we know that opinions are just like..... cars, everyone has at least one and they come in all kinds of colors, sizes, and flavors.

I have decided that I definitely want a Moto, especially since my X2 has been abused for the last year an a half. The screen has a few scratches, and the finish is starting to wear, but it still feels great. CM7 is fast as hell still, and even with a few minor issues, JB on the X2 is pretty decent. Can't wait for JB (or CM10!) for the HD.
On that note, I promised myself that I would wait and see what the development community was like before I bought a new phone, but I think I'm going to hit VZW and see what they can do. My X2 should the the $100 Moto returning customer promo, so $99 for a brand new ass kicker sounds like a steal. My GF has the Droid 3 and the development community is almost non-existent, hopefully things will take off here like they did with the X2.
Do you have any gripes about it so far? I know its early, but how is the battery? I MUST KNOW!

Right now, it's too soon to determine how the battery is. I have only charged it last night because I didn't get the phones until 6pm. Then they were plugged in while I was getting the apps back downloaded and was playing to get the feel of where everything is.
Like I said, if you're using CM7, you'll have no issue with the HD out of the box. They have pretty much dumped Blur and it's smooth. I was using the HTC One X and this is so much better performance wise. With the way the RAZR line has taken off, and with the present HD being available, I don't think there's going to be issues with development. I would think you can look at the existing RAZR community and get an idea how it is.
Build quality is second to none!! Love the fact that the phone has the nano-coating to make it splash resistant. The weight is a little more than what you're used to with the X2, but that's because of the fact that the case has aluminum, gorilla-glass, and a bigger battery. The battery can't be replaced, but the back is kevlar and it is NOT slippery like 99.9% of the devices that are sealed. There are accessories available right now (car windshield mount, desk mount, cases, screen protectors, etc) and seem to be in stock (at least in the corporate stores here where I'm at). I have the car mount, desk mount, and screen protector even though it has gorilla glass. Better safe than sorry in my opinion.

Awesome. I use my phone as my clock so I'm going to need a desk dock of some form. But that's no big deal. I think you just sold me

Unlike the desk dock / media dock for the Droid X/X2, this is a universal. It's $40 from the store BUT it comes with a new special cord that is ONLY used for the dock. You can't use it with a computer. The cord itself is what puts the phone into different desk modes. so you can have it setup for JUST going into clock mode while its on the cord being charged over night.
The dock itself feels pretty sturdy. yea, it's plastic, but it's got a good amount of rubber locations for making sure it doesn't slip, and it's aesthetically pleasing. It's not a pain to get the phone into and out of like the media dock for the X/X2 that's for sure. yes, you have to unplug the cord yourself, but it's better than having to fight with the entire dock because it's molded to the phone. This one, the phone just sits on the dock and is easily lifted off.

Apologies if this is the wrong thread, but can anyone who has the Razr Maxx HD please confirm:
-Can a user sideload apps to this phone?
-Can the app shortcuts on the lock screen be changed to different apps, such as Twitter or another messaging application?
I played with the phone yesterday in a VZW store for over 20 minutes, but was unable to locate anything in Settings for either option.

1. I am unaware of side loading, is that referring to apps on ext SD? If so, yes it takes a microSD.
2. I don't use the stock locker, widget locker (play store, $2.99) is the best lock screen there is. Period. You can customize every pixel of your lock screen.

I can sideload on mine but I have a Rogers (Canada) version. No, the lock screen shortcuts can't be changed as far as I can tell.
With WidgetLocker you can put anything on the lockscreen.

You can side load just fine.when you try to install for first time you'll get a warning that the app isn't from the market. Check the allow box and you'll be good to go.
Changing shortcuts on the lockscreen isn't a stock function.as previously mentioned you'll need a third party app for that.

can anyone tell me if the display is laminated like the gs3 and htc one x?
Am I the only one who thinks the call volume is way too low. I returned it because of that. Highest setting was just normal (quiet). Did I have a bad one?

I'll have to check mine for that problem, but has anyone been having 4g problems?. I feel like this radio isn't up to par and I still have days left to return but I really don't want to. I'm a big moto fan buy they've let me down with this one. Wasting all those parts on other razor devices that wasn't necessary. People with s3, and I'm not familiar with which carrier there on, get 4g in places that I'm not getting and that's no fair VERIZON or MOTOROLA cause that monthly fee is no joke.
