hi guys, acctually i updated my tf101 to ics. its so slow. idecidec to downgrade to hc again. i used my backup rom with cwm but after rebooting my tf stock at asus boot image and didnt boot up? any suggestion guys?

Try reflashing your old rom after restoring your backup. CWM doesn't backup the kernel, so you need to flash your old kernel back.
This is the most backward logic I have ever heard in my entire life. I guess if you have to go back (Don't know why you would) get the HC firmware from ASUS's site and flash it.

Peoples going back from ICS to HC all have run into troubles restoring the kernel.
Exactly. For whatever reason, going from ICS -> HC won't work right unless you reflash your old kernel.
If ICS seems slow you should do a Factory Reset first before anything more extreme like trying to go backwards to a previous version.
The same things were happening when the Xoom was upgraded to ICS......a few had issues with it feeling slower while the majority were raving about the increased performance. A Factory Reset corrected the slowness and/or FC's on most of those.
I personally always Factory Reset when changing/upgrading ROM versions (Eclair to Froyo, Froyo to Gingerbread...and now Honeycomb to Ice Cream Sandwich). Seems to keep the issues to a minimum.....
(just purchased a Transformer for my wife....)
I did a full wipe. Installed ICS OTA then did two more wipes, then set up.
Mine flies and I am slowly adding back apps I actually need. Everything is great here.

Agreed, I've had no issues so far with my ICS. It's always going to be a little chunky and slow for the first hour or so probably while it builds databases, caches, and whatever else it does in the background. Give it some time to do its busywork. If it's still slow after that, try wiping and doing it again? :/

Ok so I recently ordered my first tablet, I went with the xoom since I wanted fast updates. So myquestion is, is there a difference between stock honeycomb compared to the popular ROMs in the development section?
I should have my xoom in a few days hopefully, I was originally going to flash a kernel to OC. I was however questioning on whether to flash a ROM or not. From experience what will you guys recommended, flash a custom ROM or not?
Thanks

I think your big question is whether to root or not. Personally, I would root and install the solarnz recovery version for CWM and then flash Team Tiamat Rom l.l. It's fantastic! It's so much smoother than stock. The tiamat kernels are great too. There are some other nice choices as well, and more are on the way. Xoom developers are the greatest!
Very hard to brick the root if you follow instructions
just dont bother relocking it shouldnt ever need to relock it in the first place
i put tiamat 1.1 on my Xoom when it came out and it has completely fixed most issues I had with the Xoom. SD card support, no more lag, and extremely fast boots (with a nice new boot animation). When you flash the rom make sure you get setcpu off the market. You can change the CPU speed on the fly! I keep mine at 1.5 ghz because 1.7 has rebooted on me a few times.
I am running the Tiamat 1.1 rom as well. I have had very few if any issues. SD card support, overclocking, stability, root access, etc...... I liked my Xoom when I purchased it, I LOVE my rooted and rommed XOOM!

I am getting tired of waiting for the stock 3.1 rom now so I am starting to think about using one of the custom roms.
Have there been any performance and function comparisons between the stock rom and the custom roms?
Or do you have any good arguments either way?
The two most popular appear to be Virtuous Picasso and Virtuous Galaxy. I have been using the 1.08 version of the former for sometime and have had no issues. I thether, have gps, bluetooth, WiFi all w/out issue. If your rooted, get wild and flash them both; see which you Luke better.
I like virtuous galaxy for the the touchwiz, but there were too many broken things. Exchange didn't work, couldn't access files on my external sd card (although apps like google music seemed to be able to) and my usb keyboard didn't work. Virtuous galaxy seems to work without any issues.
I've tried them all so far, and they all have pro's and con's. They also all have bugs, which is only to be expected.
Currently, I'm running stock and, to be honest, kinda prefer it. Though I *have* rooted and added a few tweaks...

You started off saying virtuous galaxy had too many broken things, then went on to say virtuous galaxy seems to work without issues? Maybe it's too early and I'm reading it wrong in my barely awake state, but could you clarify please? Lol

I don't mean to speak for willy but I think what he was saying is that at first, Virtuous Galaxy was nice but had too many broken features but after the release this past weekend, most of the bugs are fixed.
I am using Primee which is the Asus Transformer ROM with some of the Acer items left intact. I have tried Virtuous Galaxy and UI is beautiful but I was getting a barely perceptible lag opening and closing the app drawer even after OC to 1500 and it was bugging me. I think the problem could have been one of the Samsung widgets.
I normally recommend loading a custom rom if you feel comfortable. I rooted my HTC Magic back in the early days of Android and have never looked back.

You should go for 3.1 stock (official acer update), works like butter and fixes problems that custom roms still have (like cell stanby) unless they are based on 3.1 stock (I'm still waiting )
Update to 3.1 stock Acer Official Update
No wipe needed or acer recovery/cwm, you don't lose your data, but it's highly recommended to backup and use recovery/cwm, through again not necesary.
Here is a change log (what's new/changed) to see if it's worth, if you do update please share with me in that thread what's new and changed so we can inform, share and encourage pleople to update to 3.1, plus if you do it now you get new OTA Acer_ A500_4.010.30_COM_GEN1 (I sound like a salesman ) who knows for how long they will keep the update

How do you procede to go from EMEA_GEN3 to COM_GEN1?
My machine is COM_GEN1 so I'm happy. My sister who got hers in Denmark is EMEA_GEN3 and is still stuck with firmware 1.x (Android 3.0.1)... Is there a step-by-step instructions for going to COM_GEN1 for her machine?
I suspect I can then download the latest firmware manually from : code.google.com/p/acer-a500/downloads/list or use OTA like my machine?
Thanks,
Gilles.

I too went from EMEA_GEN3 to COM_GEN1. Here is the basic low-down as to how I went about it:
* Install Acer Recovery from Market and use it to install clockworkmod.
* Download the COM_GEN1 ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176632 thread.
* Use Acer ROM Decrypter to decrypt the .zip file and extract the update.zip from there.
* Rename the update.zip to something like e.g. AcerROMcomgen1.zip and copy it on your SD card. It's important that it is on the SD, not internal storage.
* Turn off your tablet, then turn it on while keeping the volume button pressed down until you see white text appear on the tablet screen's top-left corner.
* Use clockwordmod to first make a full backup for just-in-case. I really mean it: do a full backup. You never know if you might need it later!
* Then format cache, format data/factory reset, then install zip from SD.
* Reboot.
As for navigating in clockwordmod: you use the volume button to go up or down in menus, and power button to select the menu item.

It's been updated to V4. It seems pretty solid but that's less than 24 hours of usage. I think I've got OC to 1.5 or 1.6, no problems. As noted at his site, Auto Brightness does not work. I'm interested in GPS so not sure if that is supported or not. So far, so good with the ROM. I may give Taboonay another go, but feel comfortable with Thor's ROM. Also, Netflix does not work. I don't think it found it on the Market but I tried restoring from a backup and got an FC. I believe this is a known prob with HC 3.2.
i tried it, one hour later I was back on Taboonay v.2.1b.
also, when leaving it, wipe everything atleast 5 times, or your wallpaper wont work no matter what

Interesting. I tried Taboonay and didn't like it. I had some issues with OC with Thor's and am now giving PRIMEE P9-5a a go. It's better but thinking I may not stick with it. Perhaps I'll give Taboonay another go.
I did not like it at first either. Once I oc it was better. Make sure you use the 2.1b version.

I tried this too, but to my dismay when i reverted to my back up of Taboonay 2.1b, I lost root priviledges!!!!!!!! Unable to access the cwm, or anything that involves root. I have been searching for hours now for my fix. To no avail.

Thanks, I did try it (twice) with the 2.1b. I've tried pretty much all of the HC 3.2 releases minus the minimal custom ROMs but seem to like Falcon Acer HC 3.2. I noticed some oddities when I maxed out OC so running at 1.5 seems to make for a solid ROM. I didn't have a chance to fully test GPS. I'm using richard's kernal but may try thor's.

I would:
1) Root your device with the tools already out there (I used ioniaroot)
2) Download Acer Recovery from Market and install CWM through that. Unless it has been updated, it will not give you the latest CWM, which you can download, install on your SD card, and flash from CWM
Keep us posted
So, I simply flashed another Rom. After of course figuring out that my recovery was still there.
All is well again!

Yeah, had the same issue when flashing my recovery image back to taboonay. Had to actually reflash the original taboonay rom and thor kernal. The recovery loses root for some reason.
Unfortunately, Revolver lacks 501 support, even after messing with the build.prop and an additional lib file. And Thor doesn't have a 501 to play with.
Looked promising though, a little more responsive than taboonay.

Interesting you say that about Taboonay. I was trying to figure out why I didn't stick with it given its popularity and remembered that was my experience as well. I have a USB 3G pay-as-you-go modem and have read those devices are supported, so I opted for the 500.
Been pretty vocal about ICS troubles, to the point of downgrading to HC (using Revolver 3.11). Well, after .24 upgrade, decided to give ICS a try. Thankfully, there is a new Revolver with .24 integrated, pre-rooted and all.
Backed up my HC install, JIC and went for it. Been stable for a few days, no RR or SOD ... so if you're at the wits end, do give it a try. Sometimes, those SODs/RR have a pesky habit of rearing their ugly butts weeks after installs, but it is all good for now and I will deal with issues when/if they arise.
As usual, if you have apps with lotsa of settings that you want to retain, use Titanium to make the post-flash-app-reinstall-dash easier
Just curious.. beside the .24 integrated. What significant changes, features or feeling having Revolver running?
I've been running rooted stock ICS with CWM installed and pretty happy with it under guever's awesome kernel..

Unbelievable. Better (real) late than never.
Unbelievable indeed. And just in time. I have about 11 days left before I need to return my tablet to verizon for refund. I can hold out to see if this update improves things enough.
Can someone make a debloated ROM of this ? Will developers make use of this to improve the terrible performance of CM9/CM10 type builds?
I pray to god this kills most of the lag. So much lag on hc.

Electron73's nandroid does leave behind "Superuser". I also think that "Uno" and "Dead Space" .apk's need to be in "preinstall'.

Oh yeah. Those of us who have been using Locerra's CWM 9 & 10 or Paranoid Android have noticed lots faster speeds, bootup, general usage, internet, etc. I hope Samsung/Verizon do not ruin the ICS for this update.
I have run into a problem restoring to stock. I forgot to make a nandroid backup of my original stock, so I am using the one posted in the i815 thread in the general form.
I unzipped the .7z file and it has a folder with the date in it.
I placed this folder with the files inside on my SDcard AND my internal SDcard under
\clockworkmod\backups\2012-05-06.22.48.58\**
(the actual files are in the 2012 folder, not a folder in a folder)
And I am getting the error:
can not open directory, no files found etc.
What am I doing wrong here? Wrong version CWM maybe?
Update: I flashed an older CWM (5.0.2.7) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470896 and same error:
Couldn't open directory.
No files found.
