Frankly, I never thought that I would see this day. If I'm rooted, do I need to unroot to get update? Anyone know? Is there a download?
Unbelievable. Better (real) late than never.
Unbelievable indeed. And just in time. I have about 11 days left before I need to return my tablet to verizon for refund. I can hold out to see if this update improves things enough.
Can someone make a debloated ROM of this ? Will developers make use of this to improve the terrible performance of CM9/CM10 type builds?
I pray to god this kills most of the lag. So much lag on hc.

How about CWM users?
Run Odin to flash the update (and, perhaps, lose root temporarily) or try reverting to stock using Electron73's method and hope for the best?

Good question. I plan on trying to use the stock nandroid in this section to get back to stock rom and flashing back to stock recovery and unrooting, and hoping it comes in.
Unless someone can make an odin ??
Dang it, came to XDA to post this!
This is one of the signs of the apocalypse!
(Now where's Jelly Bean! Yeah right!)
About fkin time. My only concern is : With the tab 2 7.0 on Verizon having a locked boot loader, does this update bring the same? I know I will wait until others update to see.

Electron73's nandroid does leave behind "Superuser". I also think that "Uno" and "Dead Space" .apk's need to be in "preinstall'.
Nice Just got the Tab yesterday and ICS is ready any day now. This update is really needed. My Nexus 7 is so much faster than gt. I hope the speed has more to do with the OS than the Chip

I have a nandroid that's before the FD01 update, I could restore it and then wipe data/factory reset it . It will leave superuser behind, but ginger break works to unroot it. I don't really have a place to upload it tho. But I have used that nandroid more than once to test out making an Odin flashable system image (which I have yet to succeed at)

Oh yeah. Those of us who have been using Locerra's CWM 9 & 10 or Paranoid Android have noticed lots faster speeds, bootup, general usage, internet, etc. I hope Samsung/Verizon do not ruin the ICS for this update.
I have run into a problem restoring to stock. I forgot to make a nandroid backup of my original stock, so I am using the one posted in the i815 thread in the general form.
I unzipped the .7z file and it has a folder with the date in it.
I placed this folder with the files inside on my SDcard AND my internal SDcard under
\clockworkmod\backups\2012-05-06.22.48.58\**
(the actual files are in the 2012 folder, not a folder in a folder)
And I am getting the error:
can not open directory, no files found etc.
What am I doing wrong here? Wrong version CWM maybe?
Update: I flashed an older CWM (5.0.2.7) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470896 and same error:
Couldn't open directory.
No files found.
The files are there!!

I barely use my gt 7.7 and it hurts because I have the monthly subscription... My nexus 7 is insanely smooth running stock...it is literally night and day between the 2. I had a transformer prime with ics and it was not as smooth as my nexus 7. However, anything beats honey comb.. as much as I used to like the cereal, the OS turned me off with the horrendous lag. I think ICS will run better on 7.7, but I doubt u will get the same smoothness as your N7

I assume that someone will need to extract the updated radios from ics update, for cm10 users to flash. Then the developers fix cm10 to talk to them before we could get working data? Just asking to be sure I understand what future may bring.

I have to agree the N7 stock makes the 7.7 look broke as a joke. I have tried CM9 and CM10 on my i815 and the N7 blows it away in smoothness

I'll probably work on porting the CM9 rom to the i815 at some point, but right now it is too unstable and there are plenty of other things that I need to fix (the only reason why I added a P6800 port was because most of the needed changes were done by aorth for the P6200).

I would be happy with just an ICS leak!!!
HC stinks!
There are leaks for everything else... Rezound, Razr, Galaxy Note... why not for this tab?
I wondered that too. There also isn't an official stock firmware listed in the dev forum T_____T
Would someone mind posting the build.prop from the stock rom (as an attachment to your post would be great, so it is easy to download).
Here ya go!
Anyone know if there is an equivalent to Sprint's RDF pages for Verizon? Or Samsung? I know with the Samsung Epic 4g Touch we all watched this page for updates. Any ideas?

No!!!
Freeze the bloat, don't remove it (yet). As long as there is not even a factory image to restore the tab in case of screw ups!! If you delete an app and the next OTA update comes out, it will fail, because it won't find the deleted app and therefore abort the entire update!!
:-(
Someone needs to find the Odin flashable factory ROM at least, better would be an ICS leak like on all the other phones and tablets...
ICS leaks all over the place for phones, but tabs.... nowhere to be found.

Yes I do have a full Linux at hand! How do you make an Odin flashable from an installed ROM? Say for example I take my table and do a full factory wipe, clear all caches etc, only leave root intact. How can I then pull the entire state into an odin flashable that will basically clone my tablet exactly the way it is? I could do that and publish the file, so that the community finally has a backup ROM in case someone accidentally hoses their tablet !!
I'd like to help with this effort in any way possible. Very fluent in Linux with access to many servers. Need some guidance on just what needs to be done.

There's a CM9 for the i815 in the Android development thread that has everything working but 4G and auto brightness, according to the developer. I'm going to install this weekend, but it seems to be the real deal at this point.
It's also currently missing HDMI, which is unfortunate...but I agree that it could easily be a daily driver in another month or so.

This is great news, sure I'd love 4g to be working too but I typically have at least 2 networks I can tether on in addition to Verizon so ready to take the plunge.
Which version of CWM are you running and how did you install it? Odin or heimdall? I downloaded what I thought was the proper CWM but have had trouble installing.

CWM 5.5.0.4 recovery from locerra, flashed via Odin.
Do yourself a favor before flashing the recovery via odin if you're rooted and follow these instructions, or else the stock recovery will override your CWM recovery every boot:
ODIN flashable CWM 5.5.0.4 TAR file: http://goo.im/devs/ohanar/clockworkmod/i815/CWM-20120710-i815.tar
Installation Instructions for stock FD01 users with stock 3e recovery:
Gain root access if you don't already have it.
Disable any lockscreen security you have.
While in the Stock ROM after enabling root access, navigate to the /system folder with a root-enabled file explorer app and mount R/W.
Locate the file "recovery-from.boot.p" and rename it to "recovery-from.boot.p.bak" then power down your tab, Do Not reboot or let the tab boot into your stock rom!
Boot into download mode by pressing and holding power + volume down
Press Volume up to continue into download mode and connect your tab to your pc
Load up ODIN and flash the 5.5.4.0 tar file via PDA
Reboot, you should now have persistent CWM 5.5.0.4

I'm running CM10 and it is very smooth and a huge step up from stock HC. I use mine solely on Wi-Fi so it having 4G issues is not a problem for me. VZW's attitude toward customers and their painfully slow updating process is what drove me away from them. I will never go back to VZW until these attitudes change. I am now a very happy T-Mobile customer with unlimited 4G data. Suck it VZW.
So I got this tab from a friend for free and need to make it better.
First I need to figure out the teems I'm reading in development. I see things like p4 and p4wifi. According to my settings this is a GT-P7510. Does that = a p4wifi?
Second I know how to root (have a GS3) but not sure which rom is the one I want. I'm thinking of going to JB, but I've read something about updating the boot loader. I haven't seen any threads on that though.
Any help you could give would be great.

Forgive me as I know I have seen something posted about this in the past, but after a lengthy search, I can't find it.
I am one of those that updated from ICS to the leaked version of JB (4.1.1). I rooted after that. Then the OTA JB was released. I'm wondering a couple things:
1: is there a simple method to update to the latest version of JB for our phone if I installed the JB leak? If it's not simple, I may not give it a go for fear of doing something wrong.
2: Did the newer version of JB bring about any noticeable changes?
3: Was there any noticeable improvement to cell phone reception? I'm one of those living in an area that doesn't have the greatest reception. I get around one bar less than my old Droid Pro did.

I could be looking to hard into this, but here goes. You could download the update, NOT install it but save it, install Safestrap and install the update to ROM slot 1. Do the whole backup and restore ROM slot 1 to stock and delete the Safestrap folders and you should be fine. You would lose root this way, I think... Otherwise, flash a custom ROM instead. It's better than stock.
I was only on the leak like a month. I just used the RSD program and flashed to stock ICS and performed an OTA update. And I really can't compare cell signal; my area is very strong. Sorry!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Ah ok. I need to get my versions straight. I finally noticed the original post I had read about upgrading. I have both frozen and deleted some system apps and it said the update does not work if that's the case. If the cell reception is better then it might be worth it, otherwise that seems like a decent bit of work for only some slight changes.

Just Google some of the benefits of having root.. if any of those sound appealing to you then... root it. If not, don't.
