I had the same issue doing a battery pull fixed it for me.

By battery pull do you mean you removed the battery and put it back again ?
Just try a simple reboot, that should get it to work normally.
Is the scrolling also lagging? That used to happen to me, I just OCed my phone, and it worked smooth as butter.

It seems I often have the same problem after plugging in the power cord.
Simply removing the power cord solves the problem.
While I have this issue I found a bunch of errors from logcat or dmesg, next time I'll try to post some relevant snipset.
Can someone confirm that CM7/9 are immune from this issue?

the one in opening post is not so frequent -- once in 2-3 days...i expect its because of sweaty fingers
d one with power cord -- d screen works if u do press it bit hard...like resistive touch...but if battery is below 20%, pressing hard dont work either...strange...

Guyz, dont ignore this problem. This is due to broken digitizer (f*ck you moto). I had this problem about six months back. I was madly asking for help in this forum. Got suggestion from everybody but nothing worked. at last I have given it in moto service center where they replaced my digitizer. All's well from then (six months now) but I am always afraid of that ghost can return since I have no warranty left.
Will never ever buy a moto phone again. (I am here only bcoz of the best dev community, otherwise I would have left already). However I love my defy.
you have used membrane ?
you have used membrane on your screen?
This usually happens when my screen is wet. Or in cold weather.
Are you sure its neither of those?

Hello all, im still having issues with my touchscreen being i guess mapped incorrectly or sometimes hardly working at all. The more i think about it the more i have to think it can be fixed and also i think about anything that could have happened to the phone b4 it started acting up and there was nothing, not a drop or hit. The only thing i can put on the same timeline is right after i installed lockbot is when it started acting up, is this by chance only or is there a chance lockbot modifies a file that could affect the touchscreen? Any help with this or even ideas would be great. Thanks, veritas
Ps...also after searching google for a few days i noticed a good bit of people posting that they had diff issues after installing a couple diff lockscreen apps, the only issue is that they are all only open post with zero responses to point in the right direction. Thanks
This happened to me too after installing lockbot.
I'm gonna try to reinstall the firmware and will get back with the result.
Currently it just comes and goes .. mostrly comes.. The bottom part of the screen doesn't work at all, and the sliding seems to work harder. Also, when I type a message in landscape, I press a key, and another one is actually shown to be pressed.
I also tryed different versions of lockbot, 1.8 and 1.13 before the touchscreen sarted to have problems, but when it actually happened, I had version 1.8 installed and it froze when I was using it.
Just reinstalled originial firmware, and problem didn't go away.. this is starting to get serious..
i seriously doubt it's related to lockbot. many people use it with no issue.
yeah.. lockbot might have been a coincidence.. I realized that I was using a different charger (not the original one) when using the phone when this problem appeared, and this seems to be consistent with the problem.
Actually I was charging the phone from the usb port of the computer, using also an USB extender.
I'll take the phone to waranty .. I tryed removing the battery and not using it for a day, leaving it to use up all the battery.. no success.
I think that there may be some wild static running through the phone from when I charged it off the usb.
If I play with the phone a lot now, sometimes the bottom part works bot not the top part.. and sometimes, I can press something on the screen just by hovering the thumb over it.
I'm getting the same problem! I press at the bottom of the screen and it selects something in the middle or nothing at all and at the home screen I won't even touch the scrren just hover my thumb over and the screen responds like its trying to go to the next screen but then gets stuck in the middle.
I called t mobile and they said to soft reset or hard reset, did both and no fix.

It's definetly a hardware issue.. it's sad that these touchscreens are so sensitive to the charging currents..
I would have imagined that they would have added some protection for this ..
btw, it's not just a htc hero problem, the web is full with all types of touchscreen phones being afected when using non original charger.

That's ALL T-Mobile knows how to do. Reboot your phone or reset your phone. If that doesn't work, they tell you its broke. Anyone could do that job.

ANY phone gets affected when using a different charger. People don't stop and look at the voltage of the new charger and leave their phone on it for 10 hours even though it's charged.
You can't protect from stupidity. Not saying any of YOU are stupid, but seriously, don't give your phone 100 volts when its made to receive 12.
I quess that ppl that use non-original chargers would read the voltage output..
Like I said above.. I just used the usb port from the computer to charge, if this is wrong, maibe they should have disabled it

I was saying here that other parts of the phone are just fine.. if there is a problem with the charger, why doesn't the whole thing brake.

If a clean install (task 29) doesn't help, then I guess you have no other option than sending it for reparation.
It seems like there is a limited life span on the touchscreen. Mine died in October, and I had to buy a replacement because nothing I did fixed the problem.
I had the same issue as you, but in my example touchscreen is slowly dying. For example I can't wake up the phone pressing right (red) button. So I learned that using any other button will not cause freeze of screen. I also discovered that if you gently slap your phone on hand, magically screen starts responding. Weird, but it's ‘working’ like this since 5 months so far.
I just encountered this problem with my HD2 as well. It seems that this is a fairly common issue. Apparently the digitizer for the touchscreen is located directly beneath the red power button and has a tendency to lose its connection.
For me, holding the red power button down with some force for about 5 seconds fixed the issue. Is this temporary? Perhaps, but it has worked just fine for a few days now. Try that out.
Can't Unlock the Phone..
I am having the same problem..I can't unlock the phone..No matter what android Rom I installed.I tried to removed the lock screen and the touch stopped working..But when the phone restarts and you put you pin etc,I can use the phone normally..but when it goes black and trying to turn it on again nothing works on the screen..
Though the hard buttom works..Home screen etc..but can't get the touch to work after the screen goes black!
It's not rom related
I have installed WM6.5 (Stock), Android GB, Android ICS, Android JB But the problem appears to be the same in all
when I press Red button touch doesn't work any more
I would go with digitizer theory
BUT my question is this:
is it gonna get worse? cause for now as long as i avoid Red button everything is OK :good:
and I love my HD2 but if getting worse is possible I have to get rid of it :crying:

Funny (or sad) thing is we don't have an official service center here
so only option is to replace it or sell it as the way it is
Try this:
Lock the screen normally, screen turns off. (Power button)
To turn it on again by pressing any other screen buttons other than the power button. (DONT USE THE POWER BUTTON TO DO THIS)
I found that if I do it this way, the screen runs normal.
I bought my TF300 at Amazon June and basically it works well until yesterday.
The sympton is like someone keep tapping the specific areas of touchscreen and never stop, actually i haven't put my finger on ,even i didn't hold the tablet, just put it on desktop.
I had to tried to hold the power button to restart the TF300 several times and finally it looks become normal.
But this morning, when i power it on, the problem occurred.
Anyone have idea this problem ?
Weird. Do you have a screen protector on? If you do, you might need to take it off. If you don't, try cleaning your screen with the cloth it came with, also do a cold reboot (this is done by turning off your tablet then turning it back on holding the volume down button until you see some text in the upper left of the screen, after that just leave the tablet do he's thing, meaning don't touch anything else until it boots up). If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need to try to do a factory reset. If that fails to fix the problem I suggest you contact ASUS support or if its still under amazon's warranty exchange for a new one.

I gotta to contact ASUS local first.
A friend of mine bought it in Amazon U.S for me and bring it to China, which makes me hard to exchange ( International post fee and custom tax).

Mine wasn't picking when I pressed on the screen... I open the back and saw a ribbon cable was kinda loose and held with tape. So I pressed it in and put more tape on it and now its fine with the response from the screen.

Fix for touchscreen issues
Hey guys,
I thought I'd post my solution to the same problem. It is a hardware issue and I figured it was because of how thin the device is. Basically, I noticed it when I would be playing or if the device started to heat up. Since the battery and screen are so close together, I figured there wasn't enough space and that the heat from the battery was making the tablet think that there was a touch input when there was none.
My solution was to open up the tablet and take the battery out. Then I put slivers of foam (about 1/2" x 2") in between the battery and the screen. Since then I haven't had problems with the touchscreen.
I hope this helps you guys with this problem.
Hello-
I usually do not open threads but I need advice on this recent touch responsiveness issue that has been happening. My Nexus 7 8 GIG was running great I had not had one issue with it, until one day I opened the case "Poetic leather case with magnet locks" and the screen came on notifications were on and animated everything looked fine. I went to unlock it and the touch screen did not respond to anything, now the screen rotates fine and all but it would not respond to touch. So I reset it with the power button, the touch screen then works until it times out and turns off, I wake it up and the screen does not respond again. I took it out of the case and have manually turned it on/off and it still does not respond to touch, but it will work every time I reset it. This problem has came out of nowhere it was running great.
I was originally on AOKP Milestone 1 with Franko's Kernel r25 so I thought maybe that was it so I re flashed Milestone 1 and kept the stock kernel and the problem persists. So I wiped everything and put BAMF Paradigm on it and it still does this, but the touch screen responds every time it is manually reset so I am trying to figure out if this is hardware or software related I am led to believe it is software considering the touch screen works flawlessly upon reboot but again I am not sure.
I have not added any new apps or anything like that to cause a memory leak or such. This problem started when I left the N7 for two days without touching it, then the problem happened after I tried to use it after the two days of inactivity.
Update: I turned the N7 off for about a day booted it back up now the touch screen is working every time I am confused.
So I still have 7 months on my ASUS manufactures warranty should I send this unit back? I just do not want to think its software related and it will get fixed through updates and then find out it is hardware related and be out of the warranty period.
I am on 4.1.2 with the last boot loader "not the new one"
latest version of TWRP
Thanks everyone in advance for your time.
It seems like a magnet bad effect to me! not sure though cuz the nexus 7 suppose to work fine with magnetic cases but it could be a Magnetic field effect. In my opinion as long as it works don't send it cuz you don't know what happens there in the service center, I mean once the device is opened it would never get the same as before.

Hey
I had my Nexus 4 for a while now and today suddenly I have a problem with my touchscreen. It suddenly happend, it didn't fall or nothing.
So, the problem: there is a part of the screen that doesn't function properly. It's at a certain y value or height. It noticed this today when I wanted to swipe down the notification bar. Half the time it flips back up or doesn't do anything at all, sometimes it does work. If I swipe "fast" before that height, it usually works.
I downloaded an app to test the touchscreen and at that height it registers 2 or more fingers or it snaps above or under that line.
Can I fix this or do I need to bring it back for warranty? Is this a software or hardware issue? I also did a reset, but that didn't help...
I uploaded some videos to illustrate (can't post links so insert this in the youtube links please):
1. The problem: /watch?v=kNLbSU0smcw
2. Test: /watch?v=B8ERuBtYeBA
Edit: When I hold the phone horizontally, the notification bar works perfectly.
Many thanks,
Aaron
Update: from yesterday until now the screen was even worse, like I was touching it with 100 fingers, it went totally crazy...
A few hours later it works perfectly normal again
Any ideas?
Ok, I still have this problem...
However, the problem is present and I switch a few time to the lockscreen and back, it's fixed most the time. So I think this must be a software issue.
Maybe undoing a few updates might help? What's the best way to do that?
Are you on a Custom ROM / Kernel? If so, go back to stock ROM and Kernel and see if the problem still exists.
No, never used other roms, kernels or rooted..

I have the exact same issue.. Did you manage to solve it?
Nope, but sometimes I can use it like a week with no problem and sometimes I have it everyday.
At first I thought it might be because of the low temperature in my bedroom, but I tested it and I don't think that's the reason. I removed the cover I bought too, but I need to use it a bit longer to be sure it doesn't happen without cover. After that I'll put on the cover again and check again.
Is it possible that it happens when it is charging? Mine does this when it is charging.
No, as far as I know it's not affected by charging. The first time I had this problem I just picked it up from my desk..
I had touch screen issues as well, less than one month after getting the phone.
Occasionally, after pressing the power button to power up the display, the touch screen would not be responsive. I need to turn off/turn on the display again for it to work. It finally conked out one day when the entire part used for soft keys doesn't work anymore. Just an instant before this happened the touch screen started acting crazy for a few seconds.
Had the touch screen and LCD replaced under warranty.
The problem now is there's a bright white blob in the upper right corner of the LCD, and the proximity sensor sometimes doesn't work, resulting in no display when making or receiving a call.

Yeah, turning the display on/off a few times (so lock/unlock) helps sometimes. The warranty is a bit of a problem here, I bought it in Germany (MediaMarkt), but I live in Belgium. I tried registering at the LG site (Belgian version), but no option to select a Nexus 4 there for support... I did a live chat at the LG site, explained my problem and the helpdesk guy just left the chat I tried to contact them using Twitter, but they never replied. I asked MediaMarkt and they said I'd have to bring it in the a German MediaMarkt... It's a long way to Germany, so I'd rather not do that unless I can't solve it and they reject the warranty in Belgium (although they are obliged to).
I'm also worried that I'd get an even worse phone, like the problems you have with your new phone :s

Ok..I have a RaZr and this happened to me too. One fine day. Playing a game. In the middle of nowhere. I was scared. S*it scared. So what did i do?
I just did a soft reboot. Pressing the right combination of keys and the phone reboots.
Also, here is a very long drawn attempt, but can u try doing a wipe data/dalvik/cache?
Go into stock recovery and do the rest.
It may help, it may not help.
