How to Root - Milestone 2 General

Forgive me if this is covered somewhere on the forum. Most of the posts are old and I wanted the latest info. I am new to this. the only thing I have rooted before is my Nook Tablet. Used a very good quality video tutorial! I have a Milestone 2 with System version 62.4.24.A953.Retail.en.GB. Android version 2.2.2.
I am looking for a tutorial on Superoneclick. I am assuming Z4Root will not work, from what I have read on the forum on this version phone. Any help will be appreciated.

SuperOneClick doesn't need a tutorial.
Although here's some quick steps:
1) Download SuperOneClick here
2) Make sure your phone has "Unknown Sources" and "USB Debugging" checked
3) Start SuperOneClick in "Administrator" mode
4) Plug in your phone and put the USB Mode to "None" (If not already)
5) Click "Root" in SuperOneClick
6) Wait a while for SuperOneClick to do its job. It may freeze so just wait. It will finish when you get a popup box saying if you want to test the root.
7) Happy days =)

I cant get any of the links to work for SuperOneClick 2.3.3. Where do i download it?
David

Read the topic MegaBubbletea posted, there's a link to download it there.

I did read the article. As I said the links dont work. All I get is trouble loading page error. Anybody have a working link to SuperOneClick v2.3.3?
David

No, you didn't read it. The first phrase written there goes as follow:
"Downloads available at http://shortfuse.org/"
I just looked and there's a working download link there.

Yes I did read it! I went to shortfuse.org. None of the links on the page work for me. I am not having any trouble with any other website i am aware of. Did you download from the page? If so, which link did you use?

A lot of the links have died, so until I find a more permanent for v2.3.3, use these
http://depositfiles.com/files/n0dcxce3t"

Thanks, but the depositfiles link will not load for me. I did find superoneclick on another site. The download is named "SuperOneClickv2[1].3.3-ShortFuse.zip". Not sure if the [1] makes any difference. Just trying to make sure I don't screw up my phone.

need help rooting vibrant KA6 2.2 FROYO

Hi, I have tried z4root and SuperOneClick. But both dont seem to work, they freeze like mid-way. Z4ROOT gets stuck with the loading sign continuing to spin, but I have seen videos when it takes like 30 seconds. SuperOneClick gets stuck on Waiting for Device.... AND YES, I have tried these methods with USB Debugging checked.
I have, however, NOT tried the traditional update.zip/reinstall packages method. Because I cannot find a thread that confirms that works for froyo 2.2 (KA6).
I have read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480 (and if someone could walk me through ^ that process, it'd be nice)
but in order for me to continue with those steps, i need to root my phone, which I cant.
thanks.
have you not seen this thread? it's in the SAME SECTION that you just posted in.
look up aio vibrant toolbox... does errything nice and easy
I would just ODIN back to stock 2.1 and root with the update.zip... your choice, nice to have choices.

i know the feeling, i was having issues with SuperOneClick, worked for 3 hours on this. http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsung-Vibrant/How-Do-i-Root-my-2-2-Vibrant/td-p/709625 helped me out a bunch.
the traditional update.zip doesnt work until you get a new recovery mode installed.
i'll run thru his steps with my comments.
1. also make sure you are up to date on .NET
2. i ran this with both exploits, both times busybox didnt install (not enough space on system)
3.for step 6 it may be easier to unzip the 3e_recovery zip
4. i was a little confused as to where to put things, so i removed my micro SD card, and then put it on the "root" of the vibrant after mounting it.
5.and install it, i used it to figure out if i had "enough" root.
6. i installed a bunch of file browers trying to access system/bin, in the end my request for superuser wasn't popping up until i installed "superuser" from the market, then i used root explorer to do the rest.
7. i got lost trying to find this folder, its /res and /efs
8. more or less ignore what superoneclick says after you click the button, until it finishes.
9.install.bat is the one
10.i didnt do this
11. i had the install.bat send me into recovery mode and i reinstalled the packages
12. with any luck you should be there.
other notes: i installed busybox from the market, and used it to check to see if i had enough root. make sure busybox installs correctly before step 8.
also i ignored the instructions about turning on and off usb debugging, on my vibrant i could only turn it on and off if usb wasn't plugged in.
hopefully this helps!

[INFO]TF101 WW and Unroot

I would like to unroot my tf101, rooted with nvflash without wipe anything, to return with stock 3.1 and apply the lastest asus update released two days ago.
How can i do?
Where i can find the right files?
I have cmw instralled...if helps...
yes I am also interested in this info. Just picked up the tf101 and would like to root it but keep my options open if something goes wrong.
+1 - also interested
+1 - also interested
I will settle also for a full restore which wipes everything. I've tried all relevant threads in this forum, all my efforts were in vain until now
really.. all you guys ? I know you are noobs by your post count but come on. Look in the development section and there is a thread labeled EASY UNROOT. Didnt even have to search, just browse. Or search for unroot and it would have come up anyways.
Link for added ease:

I understand what you mean, but i'm an italian user and i don't realy understand your technical english, expecially after a 137 thread's pages, so i opened this thread to see if there is someone that (maybe) can explain in simple words the proper procedure.
In the meanwhile, i have found this:

it should be my answer?
yeah, i think that should be ur solution. i am using same method as well when i unroot back
just boot ur TF into APX mode(Power + Volume Up) while connected to ur PC, it will detect device(ur TF screen will still be off), install the drivers from the first link, then the file u downloaded from the second link, extract it and find the "download.bat" inside it, run it, sit back and watch the magic.. after a few minutes u will be back to stock

[Q] How to install Aurora ICS on default 2.2.1

Hey!
I've been looking at ways to make my phone a little bit faster as well as more aesthetically pleasing, and i ran into the Aurora ICS 4.03 - thread.
However, i have next to no knowledge of smartphones and android, and i am completely baffled by the instructions, and i can't seem to be able to find a noob-friendly guide to installing the ROM.
Can you fine gentlemen help a beginner along?
The thread had links to two different guides, one of which made no sense to me plus it was a guide to convert from Cyanogenmod to the Aurora ICS, thus useless to me, while the other referenced a rooting tool that had no working download link and the one torrent i found for it, the program didn't work at all.
TL;DR; Need help, have no android mod experience.
Model n. U8800
Android v. 2.2.1
Baseband v. 129005(Whatever this is)
Kernel v. 2.6.32.9-perf
Simply install the latest 2.3 update from Huawei then follow the steps on opening message of the Aurora ICS topic.
So you have to:
- download and install the 2.3 official update
- root the 2.3, for instance with GingerBreak
- install CWM recovery, e.g. [RECOVERY][04.01.2012][U8800] ClockworkMod [v5.5.0.4]
- go to CWM and do a factory reset
- still on CWM flash the ics-aurora zip
and you're done.

Looks like i was using SuperOneClick 2.3.2 version, downloaded the 2.3.3.0 version and it's rooting right now just fine.
At least i think it is.
It's at Step #7 of Shell rooting device... Not responding. Should that happen?
I will give you a step-by-step guide.
-First turn off Fastboot, under Settings->Applications->Fastboot
-Check Unknown Sources
-Go to Development-> check usb debugging and allow mock locations.
now go to your home screen and open the dial and enter this code:
*#*#2846579#*#*
->ProjectMenu - >background... -> Log dump -> Log on.
Restart your phone and voila, you're ready to root via SuperOneClick.

[ROOT] Kindle Fire HD 7" fix for 7.3.1

If you are having issues rooting your kindle with guides online the reason behind it is that you are using an outdated version of "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v*" Currently most of the guides all have you downloading and using Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17. You want to use a version of Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v version 21 or above. I did mine with version 21 and my gf's with version 28. I just wanted to make sure that it would work with a latest i could find.
Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v21 can be found with the link provided below. You can also google other Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v and try them out until you get your kindle rooted.
apparently i can't link outside
d -h.st /dm9
just copy it and paste it then backspace on the spaces to make it a usable url

hi, thanks for the above.
as a total noob to this, i sppent most of thursday researching how to do this, then carried it out eventually successfully too, only to wanke up on friday morning to see my device had updated to 7.3.1.
ive now downloaded binary v28, root with restore - how do i use this version? i used this guide -
androidforums com/kindle-fire-hd-all-things-root/669366-idiots-guide-rooting-kindle-fire-hd-7-7-2-3-a.html
to carry out my rooting, so i now need to know how to do it using the v28 version, and if there is any differences to the process linked above.
also, i downloaded droidwall, and thought i had blocked the updating app, but it obviously hadnt. then i noticed at the top it said "firewall disabled" how do i enable this?
and finally, how do i get to change the launcher / user interface/ how can i change this to a one similar to the galaxy tab or something else like this?
yes, i am a noob, and all help is welcome guys. many thanks in advance.

Yeah the only difference is that you are using an upgraded version of program they have so instead of using v17 use newer version. I think once you install the new google play store all you have to do is find GO Launcher in the market place.

Download DroidWall from the googplaystore, that app disables updates. I don't know much about golauncher. If you follow the guide and have googleplaystore then you should be able to download everything.
I have confirmed that Bin4ry (I used v26) method works fine for both 7.3.0 and the new 7.3.1 update that is just rolling out. Here are some instructions that hopefully is clear for everyone (link). Obviously the main credit goes to the root method.

Problems with attempting to root on 7.3.1
Hello-
I have used the "Root with Restore by Bin4ry_v29" to no avail and I am extremely perplexed as to whats going wrong. I have followed all the instructions outlined and during the process I do see multiple instances within the application saying "permissions denied" yet it continues as if everything is ok. Well, once it says everything is finished and I have rebooted the device multiple times, its EXTREMELY sluggish and borderline unresponsive. It also doesn't have root access as Superuser isn't on the device. So I am asking for any advice/guidance anyone can provide that maybe knows whats up or has had this happen and knows what the problem is.
Please help!
ps: Not new to rooting either as I have rooted all the android phones I have ever had with no problems but I know the Kindle is a different beast.
Thanks!
I'm on my phone so I can't post the link but if you search you'll find it, but I just rooted a new KFHD four days ago by using prokenexus how to root for noon guide. I followed it from start to finish and was completely successful. Took a total of about 45 minutes. He has two ways to root in his thread, automated and manual. I always like doing manual so I can see everything that is going on. But it worked like a charm. So might want to give that a look.

Super slow after boot solved!
Ok even though this guide stated that if you are on version 7.2.3, you don't need to run rootqemu. Bat method, that was not true in my case. After running through the runme phase in cmnd prompt, choosing normal root, and letting the process finish and reboot, my device was ridiculously slow, and not rooted might I add. Here's the trick though, immediately after that process finishes, you need to run the Rootqemu method also. But when you try to run Rootqemu.bat by right clicking and running as administrator, it doesn't recognize the device. What I had to do was left click on ONLY the folder that contained the Rootqemu files, and while only that folder is highlighted, you hold down the shift key and right click on the folder. Then you are going to click on "run command prompt here". Once the command prompt opens, you are going to type Rootqemu.bat and press enter. Then you can press 1 to root, let the program run through its few stages, and after it reboots several times and finishes it's process, voila no more lag, and you should be finally rooted. Also after that process, download a program called Kindlefree. It's an absolutely amazing, and simple way to install all the essential Google apps "aka" Gapps to your rooted Kindle fire hd. I hope this helps everyone like it did me!

For future referencef any further visitors
Hello fellow users and visitors. I've been following this site for a while now, yes I'm considered a "noob" here but I have my experiences well beyond the level of a "noob." This is my first post, and I indeed have a KF HD 7. Since there is so much confusion as far as CLEAR NEWBIES INSTRUCTIONS, I've decided to give everyone the guide I used to root my Kindle, which was derived from a guide here at XDA itself. You can find it here at
androidcowboy (DOT) com /2013/04/root-kindle-fire-hd-7-3-0-firmware/
This DOES indeed work for 7.3.1 as mine was, it took me two tries. But heed my warning, rooting this beauty MAY cause some issues as it has to mine such as randomly shutting off, battery showing up as 0% on some occasions when it is turned on, and sometimes refusing to charge more frequently than it used to. Those issues eventually happen without root, some people have these problems the first week of having a fresh new KFHD7, and I have friends with the same Kindle, rooted, and theirs do not present same issue, so I guess some do some don't.
Good luck and happy rooting. Now you can revive Google Play!
Another confirmation for 7.3.1. I followed Android Cowboy's procedures for both rooting and installing Google Play. Very easy. Thanks Cowboy!
Sent from my KFTT using Tapatalk HD
If you have issues rooting, please go to my thread in my signature. I addressed the issue of rooting on 7.3.1, and have written quick explanation for rooting with Bin4ry's method. The guide goes on to help you flash a custom ROM, should you so desire to get rid of that nasty Amazon OS interface.

How can I root my Asus Zenpad S8 Z580C?

I been looking around and havent found anything on how to root my device. Is there any info on how to root my device? Its upgraded to Android Marshmallow
bump
I've been looking for over a year
I've been looking for an answer to that question for over a year now. From what I've found it can't be done once you upgrade to marshmallow. If you downgrade to Android 5 you can though. There's instructions on how to do both on this site. I had rooted before upgrading to to marshmallow if you search "root Asus z580c" on here you will find the instructions easily but it only works on nugat. This is something that's been driving me crazy for months now and every once in a while I do a search to see if someone has found a way to do it...that's how I came across this post actually...but no luck. I've considered going back to android 5 plenty of times but for me there not that many apps I use that I need it rooted for anymore anyway. The biggest one is adblock but if you search for an app called DNS66 its an ad blocker that works really well and doesn't require root. its not just an ad blocking browser its an actual app. Good luck.
This pisses me off on a cellular level. This is such a good tablet, spec-wise. But Asus dumped updates after a year, and it seems like no one is interested in trying to crack it open. Which is a shame, because debloated, this thing would run so well. The screen is fantastic, the size is great. But all the Asus bloat on it infuriates me. I hate ZenUI, and while you can use a different launcher, it doesn't remove it all-together (for instance, the pull down menu stays as it is). If anyone is trying to do work on this front and needs a tester, I'll happily lend a hand. I'm nowhere near skilled enough to DIY, but I can certainly follow instructions and get you logs and crap.

I'm struggling to find an update to Marshmallow for Zenpad 8.0 P022 380C. You say you've updated...do you still have the zip file with the code please? I'll make sure to root the tablet before I upgrade after reading this thread...

I tried it from a Linux laptop as I couldn't get Win10 to recognise the tablet at all...
I changed the script to point at local adb/fastboot rather than the ".mac" executables, so it should perform exactly the same actions - and all seemed OK to begin with - but one of the reboots after a flash stage never returned to a screen... and now it refuses to even start up.
Whether it was something I did, or the script, I cannot say...
is it possible to flash the stock rom via fastboot ?. I have twrp installed, but it gives me error 7 when I try to flash the stock ROM.zip. And the tablet doesn't turn me on either, it stays on the asus logo. thanks
