If you are having issues rooting your kindle with guides online the reason behind it is that you are using an outdated version of "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v*" Currently most of the guides all have you downloading and using Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17. You want to use a version of Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v version 21 or above. I did mine with version 21 and my gf's with version 28. I just wanted to make sure that it would work with a latest i could find.
Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v21 can be found with the link provided below. You can also google other Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v and try them out until you get your kindle rooted.

as a total noob to this, i sppent most of thursday researching how to do this, then carried it out eventually successfully too, only to wanke up on friday morning to see my device had updated to 7.3.1.
ive now downloaded binary v28, root with restore - how do i use this version? i used this guide -

Yeah the only difference is that you are using an upgraded version of program they have so instead of using v17 use newer version. I think once you install the new google play store all you have to do is find GO Launcher in the market place.

Download DroidWall from the googplaystore, that app disables updates. I don't know much about golauncher. If you follow the guide and have googleplaystore then you should be able to download everything.
I have confirmed that Bin4ry (I used v26) method works fine for both 7.3.0 and the new 7.3.1 update that is just rolling out. Here are some instructions that hopefully is clear for everyone (link). Obviously the main credit goes to the root method.

I have used the "Root with Restore by Bin4ry_v29" to no avail and I am extremely perplexed as to whats going wrong. I have followed all the instructions outlined and during the process I do see multiple instances within the application saying "permissions denied" yet it continues as if everything is ok. Well, once it says everything is finished and I have rebooted the device multiple times, its EXTREMELY sluggish and borderline unresponsive. It also doesn't have root access as Superuser isn't on the device. So I am asking for any advice/guidance anyone can provide that maybe knows whats up or has had this happen and knows what the problem is.
Please help!
ps: Not new to rooting either as I have rooted all the android phones I have ever had with no problems but I know the Kindle is a different beast.

I'm on my phone so I can't post the link but if you search you'll find it, but I just rooted a new KFHD four days ago by using prokenexus how to root for noon guide. I followed it from start to finish and was completely successful. Took a total of about 45 minutes. He has two ways to root in his thread, automated and manual. I always like doing manual so I can see everything that is going on. But it worked like a charm. So might want to give that a look.

So did I - and it worked happily for three seconds until it rebooted again and I found I had 7.4.1 on the Kindle.
I can't find anything else on the web atm on 7.4.1 so either I've been hacked or I'm one of the first to get it.
I just did mine a second ago. Second time Ive done this, but I cant rememeber what i did last time to remedy the issue. Once I did it, it fixed the lag. hmmm... someone please help me remember....

Found this article and worked.
Super slow after boot solved!
Ok even though this guide stated that if you are on version 7.2.3, you don't need to run rootqemu. Bat method, that was not true in my case. After running through the runme phase in cmnd prompt, choosing normal root, and letting the process finish and reboot, my device was ridiculously slow, and not rooted might I add. Here's the trick though, immediately after that process finishes, you need to run the Rootqemu method also. But when you try to run Rootqemu.bat by right clicking and running as administrator, it doesn't recognize the device. What I had to do was left click on ONLY the folder that contained the Rootqemu files, and while only that folder is highlighted, you hold down the shift key and right click on the folder. Then you are going to click on "run command prompt here". Once the command prompt opens, you are going to type Rootqemu.bat and press enter. Then you can press 1 to root, let the program run through its few stages, and after it reboots several times and finishes it's process, voila no more lag, and you should be finally rooted. Also after that process, download a program called Kindlefree. It's an absolutely amazing, and simple way to install all the essential Google apps "aka" Gapps to your rooted Kindle fire hd. I hope this helps everyone like it did me!

I Have i too but i accidentally cut the kindle off in the prosses so i kinda have it. all i got out of it was adding the batt % in status bar. also amazon says it is a minor update so there are no release notes.

Hello fellow users and visitors. I've been following this site for a while now, yes I'm considered a "noob" here but I have my experiences well beyond the level of a "noob." This is my first post, and I indeed have a KF HD 7. Since there is so much confusion as far as CLEAR NEWBIES INSTRUCTIONS, I've decided to give everyone the guide I used to root my Kindle, which was derived from a guide here at XDA itself. This DOES indeed work for 7.3.1 as mine was, it took me two tries. But heed my warning, rooting this beauty MAY cause some issues as it has to mine such as randomly shutting off, battery showing up as 0% on some occasions when it is turned on, and sometimes refusing to charge more frequently than it used to. Those issues eventually happen without root, some people have these problems the first week of having a fresh new KFHD7, and I have friends with the same Kindle, rooted, and theirs do not present same issue, so I guess some do some don't.
Good luck and happy rooting. Now you can revive Google Play!

I picked up a Motorola Bravo to use as a secondary phone on ebay for a steal of a price and thought I would share some of my success / failures / tips I have learned so far.
Successes:
Rooting the phone this was very easy as I just followed other instructions on this forum.
1. Install Drivers from here: http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/ then reboot
2. Download and install latest SuperOneClick, unzip, plug in your phone, run the executable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 Click the ROOT button and let it do it's thing. I suggest letting it install busybox as well. **NOTE THIS VERSION DID NOT work for Allowing non market APPS***
Allow non market APPS: this was a bit more tricky
1. Install the same motorola drivers from rooting (if you didn't already)
2. Find SuperOneClickv1.5.5 -- Be careful .. some of the files I found triggered virus warnings. Failures:
I have not yet been able to completely disable MotoBLUR. I saw two different ways of doing this... one was to edit the build.prop and add the following lines:
ro.mot.deblur=true
ro.mot.setuptype=2
This didn't work, but I also wasn't sure how to clear the phone data/cache ... maybe in the recovery mode? Can anyone confirm this method works on the Motorola Bravo?
The second method I saw was to type eebluroff I am assuming after booting the phone for the first im after a factory data reset. I saw one post saying you should be able to do this by bringing up the keyboard on the screen where you select the system language. I was not able to get the keyboard to come up therefore I couldn't get this method to work.
Anyone else have any luck?
Finally I plan to try carrier unlocking the phone, enabling wifi tethering, and eventually try a ROM or two out.
I'll say this now. I have the bravo. I have T-Mobile service. Not at&t. All I did was call them and asked for the code. Very nice people there. Took me about 10 minutes total including going through menu prompts and holding time.

And Super One Click will unlock non-market apps. Just click root and let it go. Reboot your phone. Click Shell root and let it finish. THEN click the non-market button W/O rebooting!

i went through a lot of threads, a lil bit confused, this is my first android phone. im already in love with it.
my bravo is unlocked with code, running 2.2.1 froyo, i think its rooted but im not sure, there is market logo on the home screen, and it has the superuser icon too when i click on the circle to app page.
and it doesnt really lag a lot, its just not as snappy compare to my friend's iphone4. never wanted any apple products, they are way overpriced lol, i think with mod bravo should run really fast doe.
cm7 or miui is androind 2.3 right? is there any glitch after install it? what are the steps if i wanna install one of them

I see many people having issues that are new to this kind of thing and here is a fairly simple troubleshooting guide that I have compiled that I think will help many of you get through rooting, Installing the Market, and installing twrp with no problems. This is a complete video walk through for those of you find the videos easier. I recommend that you watch the videos thoroughly before attempting this so that you can be sure that you make no mistakes…!!!
• Start off with a stock Kindle on original 6.2.1fw

• I have noticed that some people have problems getting stuck around 2:32 into the video where twrp is downloading and getting ready to install. If this happens to you and it is constantly “waiting for device” You may need to hit disconnect on your KF and run burrito root on your Kindle again, click “agree”,then click “You Rock”, Then click “root”. Once you do so you must re-open adb shell by opening a command prompt and typing the following:
cd c:\KindleADB to get into adb shell
adb devices to make sure your kindle is connected properly
adb root to get proper permissions
• Once you have done this re-open the run bat in KFU v0.9.1 and select option 5 again and it will install the twrp with proper root permissions.
• I have also noticed that some people also get stuck at 3:55 in this video at the firefire triangle. The fix for this is fairly easy and is explained in the video if you need a walkthrough step by step for doing this (Updating the drivers)here you go:
- Go to start Menu and right click on computer, Click manage
- In computer Management hit device manager
- I am guessing that you see your kindle connected in there with a yellow ! by it
- Right click on kindle and update driver software
- Click Browse my computer for driver software
- Click let me pick from the list of device drivers on my comp
- Click Next
- Click Have Disk
- Click Browse
- Navigate to your user folder in that window/ or wherever your .android folder is
- Double click on .android folder
- Double click on Driver Folder
- Now Click open
- Now click ok
- Click Next
- ClickInstall driver software anyway
• If you also need a link for installing cm7 here is another video to do so also by the same individual. I do not recommend this as of yet until all of the bugs are worked out in this as I have heard many people have had problems with video playback or sound (mainly in ics) and usually end up flashing back to a custom rom anyway. It is your device though so it is completely up to you

• Here is a link for a newer rom install called MIUI. This Rom is very smooth and the only thing confirmed not working at the moment (January 2, 2012 is video playback. • Here is link on how to resize your internal storage (aka custom partitioning). This is called FireParted made by eldarerathis. This is good for those of you that think that they have too much storage in one place and not enough in another. Playing with partitions can cause you to lose data that is not backed up previously to editing partitions, so use at your own risk. I myself am going to use this to expand the storage on my sd card. Update January 7th 2012 This is a program to fix boot loop Problems easily (For Windows Only)
I noticed that many people are still having problems with getting stuck in a recovery boot loop, firefirefire boot loop (Yellow Triangle), Or even the kindle fire boot loop. This is a program to fix it automatically like the kindle fire Utility. I believe that it was made by Zombiepiratez, and he made this to change all of the headaches that many people are having with bootloop problems, proper file permission problems, and bricking problems, so be sure to thank him if this helps you. Once again this is a batch file made only for windows so for those of you that are not on windows, I will leave the common manual fixes below. I have also heard of the problem with some people getting caught in a boot loop and see a constant Kindle Fire boot screen. To fix this you must open up your cmd and type:
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot

I hope that this clears up a lot of confusion for some of you weary of trying to do this to your kindle fire. I did all of this manually with my first Kindle. I have also used this method to be sure that it works and any problems that might come about when using this method and I have confirmed this to be successful. I really wanted to post this guide because I know that it is easier for some of you people new to this to follow along with a video. I know that some people say well there are a lot of tutorials out there but not one with a step by step and video links for a walk-through to do this whole procedure. You have to root the kindle before you can install the TWRP. the twrp 2.0 is used when you want to flash a rom and a few other things, (i think) you wont be able to install the twrp with out rooting first

I do believe that how to make a backup is on the install twrp2.0 video (the third one). I do not believe that you will have to install titanium backup like you do on your phone. I also do not believe that the sd card gets touched in the flashing process...

If you follow this guide in the order which was given everything will work out great after the first video your kindle will be Rooted. Twrp is really for creating a backup of your kindle in the current state and flashing different roms such as cm7 or ics... There are many things that you can do with a rooted Kindle really too many to name. You can run different market for starters which will give you more of a selection than what amazon has to offer. I did not mean to sound as if cm7 is not a good thing to use it is just not as stable as it could be and ics is still in the process of being worked on. I will be flashing to a different rom myself such as cm7 or cm9 or ics once they are stable with little or no bugs...

I know on the most recent OTA update, it unrooted the kindle. From what I understand if you are on a different rom such as cm7 you will not recieve a ota update, i could be wrong so do not quote me on that. I have however heard of people installing a modified 6.2.1 update that will help them update from the old fw to the previous one, so for them to have not gotten the update they must have either been using cm7 or turned their wifi off completely until they found a sure fix. Do a little searching on older threads you might find something when you do post back to this thread but make sure that you are sure that it does work as I would not like to have any mis-information in this thread... What all do you use your KF for? I use mine while at work to keep from lugging my Mac around. Also for the occasional updates (socialnetworking=SN) and emailing.
Another question I would like to know is the types of differences there are when running alternatives in the ROM Dept.....fluid transitions, non changing wallpapers, and the like?

I got home at 8:00 this morning and took a nap. I could not even sleep because I was so anxious to do this to my Kindle Fire, so I decided to get up from 2 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours and give this a shot. This was by far the best guide that I have seen to rooting the Kindle and I pulled it all off flawlessly. Thank you so much for posting this. I did have a few issues when trying to download the recovery file through Kindle Fire Utility, but I followed the guide to a tee and it worked for me perfectly!

Its good to see your hints, because all those really awsome videos have their traps and you can easily get trapped on it, as i did and i had a hard time to find the right way.
My secret for this is to fully understand why you have to do this and that, and here all the guides lack, because there is no explanation WHY you have to do this.
This needs more love. I was successful, because i know from my old background how a chmod works, why i had to install the drivers again and so on but it really took me a while to get this all done, because i didnt read this thread in time.
I also understand that developers are excited about their custom roms and the cyanogenMod, but really who wants to have a kindle fire without sound and a mod with so many bugs ?
I am so happy to have my kindle fire rerooted again after the latest update without opening it or using a special cable.
So this all works quite well, but the guides really need some more explanations to get a deeper understanding about what we are doing here.
I am still working on that, to learn the details.
I want to say a big thank you to all who invested their free time and to spread the knowledge about this awsome device and make the kindle fire a really usefull tablet.
Please keep on the good work ! And have fun with a fully rooted device. There are so many possibilities now !

I am glad to see that you got through this flawlessly. This thread was made just for that very reason to help the lesser experienced user with any issues they might encounter without having to post threads that may get lost in all of the other "Help Me" threads...
If there is a mod that could please sticky this thread I do believe this will answer many questions for individuals and help new users pull off a flawless root, recovery, etc...
+1 on stickying this thread. I have just been pointing people having the same basic problems here. This thread (especially the OP) seems to be helping a lot of people who need help "filling in the blanks".

I have also directed many of my friends to this thread and they have also gotten through their minor problems. It is kind of funny because a lot of my friends tell me I think my kindle is bricked I just laugh say I doubt it and send them here. Can you also make a guide about going from cm7 back to a the amazon rom please. I put cm7 on my kindle and did not like it so I flashed badk and hit reboot and now I just keep booting up in recovery is there a way to get out of that?

Yes this will work...
1.Plug in USB cable to Kindle Fire on TWRP Recovery mode.
2.Bring up Command Prompt.
3.Key in adb shell.
4.Key in idme bootmode 4000.
5.Finally, key in reboot.
There you go..!!!

Tab boots to "welcome" screen but does not register touches, leaving me unable to move forward. Ready for the long story?
I am helping a friend who bought this tab from a third party. When he received it, the previous owner stated that they did a factory reset back to Honeycomb but he noticed that it did in fact still have ICS on it. Probably OTA'd when the previous owner did the reset. Tab worked fine for about two weeks until one day he came home and the lockscreen would not register touches. That's where I come in.
I did the "erase, wipe" (booting while switching the screen rotation back and forth.) Tab wiped and brought me to the "Welcome" screen where you select country and language and still does not register touches. I have tried blackthund3r's flash and manager tools, as well as multiple guides to recover from what I have seen referred to as "flu." The main problem I have is that I cannot get a valid UID. Using USBDeview gives me an 11 digit serial but it returns as invalid when plugged into DotNetDetector and I am unable to use SDB because the non working touchscreen has left me unable to enable USB debugging.
Any suggestions, help, advice, on things I can try? I am really stumped and would like to help my friend/conquer this problem. Thanks for anyone who has taken the time to read this/offer help.

Get ready for some Ubuntu... Here is the guide that will get you a valid sbk. My nephew just brought his tab to me after forgetting his password. So I was in the same boat as far as UID/SBK. This is gonna take a while so put some time aside.

As sure as I am reading yoru reply the damn thing just started working. I was able to get to USB debugging and via ADB I was able to pull the UID; which was the same as the one I got from USBDeview btw. Still an 11 digit code. The only thing I can guess is that it has a faulty touchscreen, or maybe the battery was just too low to register touches? Thanks for your reply though. Always nice to be able to rely on the folks at XDA.

I have now realized that the touchscreen does work but is very glitchy and have found that lots of people have had problems with the OTA ICS update. Any suggestions on a good custom ROM for this tab? It isn't mine so I have not been following this section. Would like something close to stock ICS but with fixes that resolve the problems associated with OTA.

First check in Settings>About Tablet>Build Version - this will tell you what rom you are currently running -
Then, if you can, download and install Acer Recovery Installer
This tells you what bootloader and recovery is installed.
The glitches you speak of and the 11 digit uid point to an ICS Rom and unpatched HC bootloader - updating to the new BL often fixes these weird glitches BUT if you flash a custom rom as well, you'll be running sweet!!!
If you wanna stay close to Stock then I'd recommend ezterrys one here comes pre-rooted and busy box installed - and if you want to you can install his Over clocked kernel too.... plus its well maintained and supported
there are many tools and guides around to help you...the ones in my sig for instance the cpuid one has a lot of general info in it too re bootloaders, sbk and flash tools.

I'm an idiot.That's nothing new, but here it looks that I'm double one I tried to root my wife's HTC Desire Z, but without success. I tried to use CWM Super-Su v0.96, HTC Quick Root and few others. But I'm not able to do it.
Can you please explain me somebody step-by-step, what I have to download exactly, what to copy where, what to run, to do and so on.... For example HTC Quick Root - after initial reboot to recovery mode I had to run 1st option "phone reboot" or something like that, but before reboot that I received some error message regarding rights to folder structure....So I wasn't able to install Superuser or SuperSU. I also tried to run Superuser.apk but of cousre I have no rights to System/xbin to copy there su file...
Her Android ver is 2.3.3 , HTC Sense ver 2.1 , SW number: 2.42.405.4
PS: During this process I need my data untouched in the phone (pictures, contacts, SMS). I don't want to upgrade Android ver, I just need root access to install Titanium Backup and delete 90% of useless apps.

I spent appr. 6 hours and read whole internet, but I couldn't root that crazy phone I used almost every type of rooting method, but I allways receive some error message regarding rights, or it repeatedly freezes on some concrete step... I don't underdstand because I sucessfuly rooted my Xperia U and LG P690 during 15 minutes. But this HTC really shocked me. I'm an idiot, I said that...
The only way to truley root your phone will be following the xda wiki, the cyanogen wiki, or strawmetals PDF guide. Don't use any other method or you will have issues, some could brick your phone some could just make things more difficult later.
You will need to downgrade first, yes this will wipe your phone. You can use apps like sms backup + to save call logs and messages, link account to google to store contacts, have pictures on sd so you don't loose them.

and I can say that rooting of this phone was the heaviest what I did :laugh: I had to chat with some guy named GUHL who helps me with whole process step-by-step, he checked outputs wiht error messages in my cmd and as final he gaves me the link with beautifull 2.3 Sense with available root.

PS: I'll never root any HTC phone !!!!

I finally decided to root my phone after having it for about two years or so. I don't know why I never bothered, but decided to do so today. It was a bit of a hassle, even with the instructions that I found (the same ones I found in this thread), but I finally got it to work! I just flashed my first rom (Gen.Y VisionX R2 ) and so far I'm liking it, but I don't really know what's out there in terms of what I can do (customizing options, speed/performance, overclocking, and all that).

without downgrading to 2.2 Froyo, there's no way to Root desire z 2.3.3, if you are already on 2.2 and you can continue rooting procedure. make sure to follow the instructions correctly and (copy past the command do not type it>> IMPORTANT) :cowboy

Which root method could be the best option now
The rooting page on XDA links to the PDFs that have step by step guides, but the tools that are used/referenced are no longer available for download. This is a step above the Cyan page which is just plain gone.
Can anyone point to currently active steps in rooting the phone? I have it downgraded, I just need to root it.

Im in a similar situation, bought a Desire Z from Ebay, already has bootloader unlocked and s-ff (was like this when I got it). Unfortunately, I upgraded to Gingerbread before I realised this was an issue with rooting.
Have tried a few different guides, but it appears as though the fr3yo file is no longer available.

I purchase desire z from ebay. From the first time i have some issues with the phone. Touchscreen was pressing by itself etc. I asked for help and told me that was digitizer fault. Before that i thought that may be they didn't flash the ROM corectly so i returned to stock froyo but i don't think i'm rooted.
I gave it for repair and after some days they gave me the phone back and told me that it is ok. To tell you then truth the problem it wasn't so intense so take it from there. I turn it on, played al little and turn it of. I made a charge for 5 hours. After that device turn on, go to menu and after some seconds reboot and reboot and reboot.
I have tried to install CWM with this method but i can't. At first step says "sending file" but after i got message "failed"
I know here are the most experienced guys that will try to suggest me a solution before sell it for parts.

I rooted my DZ a few weeks ago, without any issue; I did everything which was mentioned in the instructions, so I suppose I have S-off, rooting, and whatever. Of course I don't remember anything at all.
Now I'd like to change ROM, mainly because, in spite of using CM 7.2, which is widely recognized as one of the fastest, I am having several issues with performance. I read around that a "superwipe" may be useful, yet I don't remember having done it last time. So, my question is: what are the steps I should perform? I should maybe mention that I have ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.2.4 installed.
I hope this is a correct 3D to post into, if it isn't please take into account that I am new in this forum :angel:

I've been looking for over a year
I've been looking for an answer to that question for over a year now. From what I've found it can't be done once you upgrade to marshmallow. If you downgrade to Android 5 you can though. There's instructions on how to do both on this site. I had rooted before upgrading to to marshmallow if you search "root Asus z580c" on here you will find the instructions easily but it only works on nugat. This is something that's been driving me crazy for months now and every once in a while I do a search to see if someone has found a way to do it...that's how I came across this post actually...but no luck. I've considered going back to android 5 plenty of times but for me there not that many apps I use that I need it rooted for anymore anyway. The biggest one is adblock but if you search for an app called DNS66 its an ad blocker that works really well and doesn't require root. its not just an ad blocking browser its an actual app. Good luck.
This pisses me off on a cellular level. This is such a good tablet, spec-wise. But Asus dumped updates after a year, and it seems like no one is interested in trying to crack it open. Which is a shame, because debloated, this thing would run so well. The screen is fantastic, the size is great. But all the Asus bloat on it infuriates me. I hate ZenUI, and while you can use a different launcher, it doesn't remove it all-together (for instance, the pull down menu stays as it is). If anyone is trying to do work on this front and needs a tester, I'll happily lend a hand. I'm nowhere near skilled enough to DIY, but I can certainly follow instructions and get you logs and crap.

I'm struggling to find an update to Marshmallow for Zenpad 8.0 P022 380C. You say you've updated...do you still have the zip file with the code please? I'll make sure to root the tablet before I upgrade after reading this thread...

I tried it from a Linux laptop as I couldn't get Win10 to recognise the tablet at all...
I changed the script to point at local adb/fastboot rather than the ".mac" executables, so it should perform exactly the same actions - and all seemed OK to begin with - but one of the reboots after a flash stage never returned to a screen... and now it refuses to even start up.
Whether it was something I did, or the script, I cannot say...
is it possible to flash the stock rom via fastboot ?. I have twrp installed, but it gives me error 7 when I try to flash the stock ROM.zip. And the tablet doesn't turn me on either, it stays on the asus logo. thanks
