How to remove back, won't charge - Kindle Fire General

My KF has a hard time charging as the port has a loose fit on the charger adapter. I have to wiggle it just right for the charge indicator to come on. I'd like to remove the back so I can see why the charger plug does'nt fir right. Anyone have thier back off ? Thanks..

Nope. Sorry. Flashing a new ROM on it is one thing... but I find that when I take things apart and put them back together again I either have left over pieces or broken pieces.
I have seen a video of someone deconstructing the kindle fire with a seemingly universal tool for dealing with clips on youtube, you might want to search for it.
For what it's worth, my usb cable is loose while my power cable isn't. Not sure I like the micro-usb standard... seems a little flimsy.

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but I'd send it back for and get it replaced. Taking off the back will almost definitely void your warranty, and unless you are REALLY good with a soldering iron, you probably won't be able to fix it.

I was having the same problem and thought it was the port but it's actually the cables. The prongs on the micro-USB cables that secure it in the port are rooted in the base of the plug. Bending the metal plug back to its original flat position will put the prongs in a more exposed position providing a more secure fit. Bending it past horizontal will expose them even more. I found that an up angle micro-USB cable fits in in an orientation that causes less stress on the plug and prevents this problem from reoccurring.

Phone struggling to charge.

Hello everybody. Recently, I had my phone go under a repair which involved opening up the entire phone just to replaces the mini usb port, which was detached from the phone and was trapped inside, losing its ability to charge.
Now, another problem has arisen. The phone has problems charging with wires compatible with its port. When I connect to it to charge via usb, it was plug-n-go, all good. For some unknown reason, it suddenly came under the issue that I need to shift the usb up,down, left, right, and slightly bend it the inside. Now, the original charger doesn't work because it broke, leaving the usb charger as the only option. I can't understand why my HTC Wizard is having this problem, and it's very frustrating. I paid sixty dollars for the repair on the USB, and it seems it hasn't done anything except reattatch it. Any suggestions?
Hey Infinity M,
By your description, it looks like the soldering is a bit loose, thus you have to shift the USB.
Have you tried with different chargers and cables?
If you wish (at your own risk), get a thin screwdriver or something like one, then apply a small force to all directions at the border of the Wizard's USB. Watch if it moves with any pressure, as that will indicate a loose solder.
Good luck, man!

Thank you for your sufficient reply. I have not tried a different cable, and I have checked the Wizard's USB. I'll have to try another cable to check if it works. Do you know where I can buy a charger for a cheap price. Thanks!
Edit: Heh, I realized you're the same person making that HTC Obsidian Case, I'd love to pay you for it lol.

That's a hard one. I would send you straight away to eBay, lol, but I guess you can take a look at some local stores near you. It doesn't need necessarily to be a Wizard's charger. In fact, any charger for a HTC device that uses the same battery will do (the Tytn's I guess). Or you can check the charger label and see if it meets these requirements:
INPUT: 100-240V~0.2A
OUTPUT: 5V, 1A (this one being the most important of all)

micro-USB charger too tight to pull out!

Do u guys have the same issue?
Once the microusb is plugged in, it's really tight and uncommonly hard to pull out.
Having carefully examined the microusb, I noticed there is a pair of pins which seem to PREVENT retracting or being pulled out. They work like a heart valve that prevent backflow of blood.
If this is how it works, doesn't it cause damage to both the slot and usb head every time you pull it out?
Please helppppp.

If it's too hard to pull out then the fix would be to start lifting weights.
immature reply: thats what she said
the tighter the usb the better imo, i like to know its in there
That's why I do pull out so no damage is done

microusb saved my evo. Baby pulled the cord that was on the counter a few inches from the edge, evo fell 4 inches from the floor and the usb cord stayed in the wall and saved my evo from certain death.

I've found that the most effective way to unplug the micro usb cable, is to to firmly hold the PC USB end in your hand, and then swing it above your head like a cowboys lasso until the micro usb end is completely out of the phone.
Lol

Wow, thank god that it holds tight in that usb slot
But Honestly, if it is way too tight, where it is different than other evo's, Then you might have to push the little "heart valve" in so it wont grab the usb so tight.

[Q] Transformer dock surface current

Hey there,
do any of you experience a strange electricity like sensation when touching the surface of the keyboard dock while it is charging and the transformer is docked? Especially directly to the left of the touchpad and on that middle part just above the keyboard keys. I want to know if I just have a thinly insulated one and should return it or if that is a general thing.
It's very noticable when sliding the finger over the surface lightly.
If you get it while charging plug the charger into the socket upside down, this should fix it.
While it's on USB no idea how to get rid of it but USB's current output isn't strong enough to do anything.
What the heck.. putting the charger in upside down did fix it!
Thank you very much! And why does that work?
I too feel the strange electricity feel when I move my fingers over the dock case while recharging. When I pull out the charger, the feeling is gone.
This is not normal!
Seriously, this is a combination of personal confirmation bias and a weird texture on the keyboard. You will notice you only feel if when your hand is actually moving across the surface, never just touching it. The dock case is made of plastic, so while it's possible for it to hold a static charge induced through friction it will NOT conduct any current from the power supply or battery. After some use this texture clearly wears in a little and the sensation stops.
Then why goes the feeling away when I unplug the charger and is there again when I replug the charger?
The feel is always there, only it is greater when sliding over ther surfaces or edges.
Seriously, there is an electric feel.

No, the sensation wil not stop if the surface were to "wear down", it has nothing to do with the texture of the device. The only way it will stop is by flipping the transformer around.
That said you will not get any type of shock from this (unless its realy defective).
I will believe it when someone gets a multimeter on there and confirms there is a potential between the case and ground, but since the case is an insulator I have serious doubts this will ever happen.
You realise that you're suggesting that a current is flowing from the power supply of your transformer, through the plastic case, into your hands and back to ground? That or you're feeling an electric field throgh the plastic, which must be on the order of several kilovolts to produce such a sensation..
Basically the concept that you are feeling an electrical phenomenon is not at all credible.
Ha I noticed this today only since getting to Spain and having to use the Euro plug which you can plug in 'upside down'.
I've never felt it in the UK and all morning I've been thinking "man thats wierd" - I log onto XDA and the 1st post I see relates to it... just turned over my adapater and its gone.

If you don't know anything about what you are claiming to understand, don't post. There ae several long threads on this earlier and the issue is real and has been verified. It is leakage from the wall charger and has been measured and verified using an osciliscope (which has no feeling) . With the plug in one direction there is about 5V AC while with the plug in the other orientation, there is about 60VAC. Sorry for being abrupt, but you claim in wrong.

If you haven't noticed, the bezel of the Transformer and the body of the keyboard dock are metal or metallized.
Please search before you talk trash.
I have this feeling too, when i just got my TF.
I would like to try to plug the charger upside down, but over here, my plug has three legs, hence there is no way i can do that....
Any one who have solve this issue, please share.

That's wierd, see though that's how it shoulda been in the first place, there should have been a ground prong on it so that this wouldn't even be possible to begin with. Doesn't the plug itself though come apart in 2 peices? I know it's supposed to but mine came togehter, but maybe pull it apart and flip the 2 peices? Dunno if that's possible since mine was already together so no clue what it looks like apart.
Is the dock case plastic? Looks and feels like metal (inside keyboard side).
OK, just plugged in the charger: I feel electricity. I turn the euro (I am in Belgium) plug round and the feeling is gone.

The country adapter (plug) snaps in and out very hard. Originally,it came as two pieces, but now comes assembled (maybe because there were issues getting it to assemble correctly). Mine came unassembled. There are only two conductors in the charger assy (hot and neutral) no ground. I am betting the third pin on your plug (gnd) is connected to nothing. When plugged in in onedirection there is leakage to the shield of the usb connector which is connected to the shield of the charge connector which is connected to the metal frame around the edge of the TF.
It's fun watching all this unfold for people who don't use the search tools here. OP, search for this, it's been exhausted in several threads, with measurements, testing, power supply revisions etc etc.

Long standalone MicroUSB connector for DIY dock?

Does anyone sell a long MicroUSB adapter kit for DIY docking stations?
Something that can be assembled onto a fiberglass or wood dock.
As in, a connector that doesn't have the molded end with cable already attached.
But wht exacty u need? Micro/mini usb cable? Usb male/female pin/plug? Give some mor details.
HD2 HYPERDROID EXTREME EDITION V6.0.1 @ FIKERT KERNAL.
Most micro USB connectors come apart pretty easily.
There are usually 3 tack solder contacts on one side and 2 on the other.
Get yourself a few $3 cables and a razor blade to try out.
You can strip the shells off, route a hole in your stand and insert it.
I think by "long" microUSB he mean really those longer ones, with ~16 additional pins, like one we can find in Nook Tablet.

I disagree, he wants to make his own dock, and needs something a bit longer that will be easier to mount. I have thought about the same thing myself
I think one of these below should do the trick, as they can be taken apart, but obviously, you'll have to do your own soldering. It's a bit tricky, even with a 0.5mm pencil tip iron.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8pin-micr..._MobilePhoneDataCables_JN&hash=item43afbf91cb
Good luck!
you might want to check out parts sites. I did a quick search on mouser.com for micro usb and under interconnects i selected "USB connectors" you can see a picture of most of the options and even go with micro 3.0 if its better for you
Whoops, I forgot about this thread.
Thanks for all the great suggestions so far!
Yeah, I want the longer USB. Because right now, I have an OEM Samsung car dock that I use.
But when I have my phone in a TPU case, the USB isn't long enough anymore to properly insert all the way into the phone. Because the TPU case puts the phone about 1/4" further from the USB.
I like the idea of stipping a three dollar USB cable.
I think this will be a long term project that I'll work on here and there.
Looking into this myself but for a different reason. I can't find what I want but I did order two of these and I reckon they will work perfectly for you.
http://ie.farnell.com/hrs-hirose/zx80-b-5s/micro-usb-type-b-plug/dp/1719110?Ntt=171-9110
I think that's also Newark in the US. Probably the same part number there. There is at least an extra 5mm there to get you past the TPU case.

[Q] loose charging port

I have seen a few post showing that people are noticing their power port on the phone is loose or wiggles, can those of you with an S4 check to see if this is the case or is the connecting good?

Mine wiggles. I even took it to the store and the demo ones all did it. Funny thing is, it only seems severe with the white cable the phone came with. I have a black micro and it seems very snug. I just might use that.
The white one, when plugged in wiggles back and fourth and up and down. The port itself is a tad loose but when 4 of the demo ones at the store wiggled I had a piece of mind.
It's normal. Some people won't even notice it and will say theirs is fine, when in reality it does wiggle. Charges perfectly fine.
also remember there are clips on the cable itself, those start to loose their 'tightness' as well and can be responsible for the loose feeling. I've recently purchased some monoprice cables and fit very sung, but in about a year or so, this port will loosen up, which is hands down one of the biggest adv over the one, we can replace this port when it does go.

But this is a NEW device how can it already become loose.
my point was simply that it's not always the port, it often times can be the cables. if you have a brand new cable and port, i would expect it to be tight, but if the cable is not known/designed to be tight, it might not be the port. I'm using brand new monoprice cales, not the supplied white one, and i'm finding that while there is a little leeway in the base of the connection (which is a good thing) the cable is well secured in the port, meaning it's strength to pull it out/push it in, that should be your judge of port connection, not the wabble in the base. The wobble in the base is actually a good thing, it's not frequent your phone is on a flat surface while charging, and often times the cord is pulling off the side of a table or counter top, this creates pressure in the port. if you've taken physics you understand the concept of levels and mechanical advantage. by giving it a bit of leeway, it lowers the point of lever, and creating less stress on the internals of the port compared to one that has a very snug fit. the only time i would be concerned about the loose port is when it's becoming easier to pull it in/take it out (like throwing a hot dog down a bowling alley
Mine is very solid
