Guys I have been using SGSII for a while now and seriously thinking of switching to Note. Is it worthed to switch to Note? Also is it practical to use it as a daily phone?
Thanks in advance.
ps. Sorry if the question has already been askeEDITd.

EDIT: Please move to Q&A
i would like to know this as well im very interested in the G note
I like the note, but loved the sgs2. Sgs2 has less screen problems imo. Plus, battery life seemed better. I guess due to slightly smaller screen and the use of amoled plus technology. Shame I gave my sgs2 away before I made the comparison. If it wasn't for the rendering problems and battery, the note would win hands down imo. I guess U need to scan both forums to make ur mind up and try b4 U buy.

Sold my sgs2 for the note and havent look back. Im one of the note owners without screen issues and most will say it has the best battery life with the massive battery. I can easily squeeze 2+ days with light to moderate usage. 1 full work day(8-6) plus enough to finish the day. Ans just for kicks i run my processor at 1.7ghz.
Its a sgs2 with a bigger battery, screen and spen. I have big hands and can do 95% of things 1 handed.
You might not want to get a galaxy note because youll never look at a smaller phone/screen the same.

what kind of screen issues are u having?
The only thing I don't like only phone is lag. Hopefully all this will be forgotten with the new coming ICS. I can just read that some people have some hardware issues. I haven't any, it's like my Note was just perfect. The battery life is also great IMO. My gf has a S2, I've never seen myself using it for whatsoever. Beside, she's the one who asks my Note to watch video because of a bigger and better screen. So no way I can go bk to S2, no way

I've got a Note and a SII, and I've also not experienced any screen or hardware issues that others have reported.
The major difference is that I need to use both hands to comfortably scroll and text on the Note. My SGSII is running VillainRom3.0, and seems slightly quicker than the stock Note. But with a custom ROM, its is on par performance wise. As mentioned earlier, perhaps when ICS is released we will see a smoother UI that will utilise the Note's hardware.
I have found that the battery lasts longer on the Note, even though it has the larger screen.
I totally agree with you on You might not want to get a galaxy note because youll nev

I had iphone 4 before and now i am using note for 2 months now. I had a chance to look at friends iphone few days ago and could not believe how small it was. I guess I am fully adjusted to the size of notes screen... Iphone never looked so tiny like baby's toy....

I've been a previous owner of an S2, and I think if you're in the market for a large phone then this is your best choice. The resolution is just fantastic on the phone, the RGBG Pentile Matrix is barely noticeable, it is only seen if you zoom in really close. Expect the same speeds as the S2, maybe a little difference here and there. The S Pen is a wonderful piece of technology. All in all get it unless you want to wait for the S3. I might just wait for the Note 2.
Note: I have big hands so this phone is quite the perfect multimedia device.
Only one thing besides the facts already mentioned. The sgs2 has Premium SocialHub, so you have push on pop3 and imap emails. Note is missing this option and i hate it.

choppy pixelatation when displaying black images in video. it's my third replacement and each returned phone had it. Disappointing, as the screen is so important on this device; main reason I 'upgraded'. I guess I've been unlucky but it is a fault to be aware of.

SGS2 is a great phone but how come no one talks about the battery life on SGS2 ? My friends with SGS2 (with custom roms etc) and a Stock SGS2 cant get a bettery battery backup than 10hrs. which i think is very low. I think the battery life alone is a factor in migration to a SGN.
Thanks guys for you answers and point of views.

The lag in both Contacts and wake up from sleeping has started getting on my nerves, very annoying, dont know how much longer can endure it.
Other than those two no problems at all, neither hardware nor software, and also I dont have any screen issues that others are reporting.
Best phone ever.

Awesome. Very nearly iPhone 4 ppi on 4.6 inches and its SAMOLED AND its 720p. I really hope this leak is real cause I'm sold on the display alone. I only hope the next nexus doesn't do away with the sd card slot >_<

Same. Super excited about the 720p screen. Considering my laptop is 15" and 1280x800 its quite astonishing how far screen technology evolved :\ Although apparently its still pentile but considering my Epic is already pentile I think I should be fine.
What I want:
1.5 GHz Dual Core (or even quad-core? maybe too early still)
10-12 MP Camera (There is an android phone expected to have a 12 MP camera soon, so it would be cool to see the NP have one)
720p display (which seems confirmed)
4.5-4.65" display (which is also likely)
BETTER BATTERY LIFE? (2000 mAh??!!?)
ICS will bring a huge update to the OS, but most likely UI which is cool
Anyone else agree?
Lol Galaxy S II already blows iPhone 4S out of the water:

I would agree with this for the most part. I don't think we'll see a quad-core in this guy quite yet. As for the camera, MP is only a fraction of what makes a good camera. I personally believe the camera on the Epic is pretty rock solid for a phone.
I think once you get over a 4.5" screen, it's getting to be too big for a phone. I would like to see it no more than 4.5". However, even with the lack of buttons, I'm surprised at how much 'dead' space there is at the bottom of the phone. I figured without the buttons, they would be able to utilize about the whole front as the screen. They can put the carrier branding crap on the back.
Not only would I like to see a bigger capacity battery, but I'm guessing ICS probably has some good things in it which will improve batter life as it is.
If this thing comes to Sprint, it shall be my next phone, without question!
Yeah the biggest issue being Verizon will probably be the first to get it.... My upgrade is available yet I have to wait more... /firstworldproblems

Will someone please tell me where all these ridiculous rumors that Verizon will get any exclusivity on the next Nexus came from? Let's stack up the evidence:
1) Verizon to this date is the ONLY carrier who does not currently have even 1 Nexus phone.
2) Verizon actively refused these phones because they couldn't ruin them with bloat; a factor that has not changed.
2a. The Nexus phones aren't crazy big sellers and thus wouldn't change Verizon's decision, especially not enough to make them pay for exclusivity.
3) Google is crazy in bed with Sprint right now with Google Wallet and Google Voice being exclusive services currently.
4) Google just tricked the Nexus lines current customers into signing 2 year contracts with T Mobile and Sprint; why would they intentionally screw developers by making it so they can't get this Nexus device without an ETF?
Evidence FOR Verizon exclusivity:
1) the words "Droid" and "Prime" were once seen written on the same line of text? And there is absolutely no proof that that phone exists or is not just a bloated Nexus variant.

They seem to be sticking to the shape of the OG Nexus. Does anyone know if it will have no SD card slot and be all internal memory? I remember when people thought the OG Nexus would be dual core as well. I will wait for iron clad proof that its coming to Sprint and has at least a bigger battery and more powerful processor because that screen has got to use more battery

This was true, until Sprint went and dumped $20B towards Apple. I really hope that didn't piss off Google too much. If I were getting cozy with someone and they went and did something like that, I would seriously have to reconsider my association/partnership with them.

And I would consider that compelling evidence against exclusivity on sprint as well. The decision for which carriers were getting this was made months ago and its unlikely that sprint was talking to google about buying the iphone all the way back then.

Just wanted to get ur thoughts and opinions in it.
Is the size ever annoying and not ergonomic? how does it do in terms of pockets etc?

The best way is Try yourself with any of your friends galaxy note or if it's not possible then tack a piece of cardboard and cut it 146.9 x 83 x 9.7 mm. Now put it on your pocket or hand. If you feel comfortable than go for it.
SGN is a great device.

It is a problem, could be an inch or so bigger.
I have all of them lying here in front of me and an extremely hard time to decide which one to keep and which to sell again.. Problem: if i would have never used the Note, the nexus as well as the one x would have been extremely impressive. i actually bought the nexus and the one x because the note in certain circumstances really is too big for me (jogging etc.). but after 1 month of using this beast i am a little disappointed with the others.
main problem nexus: camera not as good, obviously smaller (otherwise it's like a small Note, at least with cm9 installed). battery slightly worse than Note, but still good in comparison with other handsets.
main problem one x: battery life (not taking into account the whole sense and other htc bloat). do not believe people that say battery life on the (international) one x is great, they are either coming from a previous htc device (and thus have really really low expectations), very light users, or pure fanboys. also, camera quality on the note (at least with stock Samsung Rom) is better, both for stills and video (with ics roms there are currently still some camera problems, but overall it's fine).maybe the one x would have the best lens etc., but software compression is too aggressive (pic file sizes point to this). however, camera software on / usability of the one x camera is by far the best, really stunning. burst Mode, take pics while shooting Videos, etc.
just a few thoughts off the top of my head..
in summary: if you are surfer primarily, no question: Note! otherwise, things start to be complicated. this, however, is purely the problem of having too much choices and of always comparing instead of being happy with what one has got: if one would simply receive one of these handsets, each would be equally awesome! (generally this is the reason why western people, me included, manage to be unhappy at times despite being in a really lucky position, and to spend waaay to much time with decision like this (no offense meant, i'm probably just writing my own cognitive dissonances from my chest. ;-)
good luck with your decision

The note for me has been awesome.. The size fits well in a pocket. Seems huge to begin with ( i came from the i9000) but wouldnt change it now. Ive had mine since december and apart from having it stolen (1. Thank god for insurance and 2. How the hell they got it out of my pocket without me knowing lol) its been amazing. The s-pen works like a dream and i actually use it quite often. The size is perfect for what i use it for gaming.. Reading.. Movies in bed..
I'd consider it a definite upgrade from the s2
Not to mention i never get tired of ppl saying how big it is and my reply being why have u never held anything bigger than 4 inches in ur hand before?

Not sure what the difference is between black clipping and black crush, all i knw is that on my s3 when i view most videos with the exception of extremely high quality blu-ray rips, dark scenes appear to loose detail, as if the black become blocky almost like they are not rendering correctly. however bright scenes in daylight or well lit rooms tend to display fine. i was just wondering if the note 2 has solved these problems.
its a very common issues on super amoled hd
I couldn't find it on mine (GT-N7100, ordered from Expansys Austria, shipped from Marseille). I could'nt also find any hint in the englisch manual I downloaded from the Samsung Hongkong Site. I read in a short review that a long press on the back key should bring up the multiview side tab. It definitely doesn't on mine.
Beside the little less text on webpages (which doesn't disturb my surfing experience) I couldn't find a thing that is not better than on the N1.

The plus points for me:
- The screen - brighter, crisper, by far better test result with the black clipping image presented on XDA, good outside visibility. Better automatic brightness handling as far as I'm concerned.
- The pen - oval, so that you can't miss the button side, thicker, longer, riffled button, smooth on the screen
- The battery - I used mine a lot during the day (as it is when you test a new gadget ) and I'm on 28% battery. Very impressed.
- The notification led in different colors.
- The speaker (clearer, more bass)
- Air View works much better than on the promo videos. Practicable and fun.
- Camera with a faster shutter and a lot of bells and whistles.
- Speed of the device - it's just fun to use it.
- Slightly better positioning of volume keys and power key - didn't press the power key by accident so far.
- of course a lot of software improvements but that may come to the N1 too.
Hmm pity about the missing multi-window feature. It looks really cool in that Korean promo video. I would guess it will come in a future update though. There is no reason to make it a Korean exclusive.
Otherwise great to see that you are enjoying the phone. Personally I was impressed with it right from the start but I remember there was a feeling of disappointment among some posters at the announcement. I think a lot of it was because of the slightly lower resolution on the screen. Also it wasn't quite clear at the time that the Note 2 uses RGB instead of Pentile. Anyway clearly the Note 2's screen is great which, combined with all the other upgrades, makes it a worthy successor to a great phone.
Someone needs to get a dump of the korean ROM and make if flashable on the N7000 Note ASAP!!!!!
That is such a killer feature to not have!

Believe me, the Note 2 has so much AI built-in (smart stay, smart rotate, mouse hover, multi windows....i can go on all day) that it makes me realize the name "smartphone" is suddenly an apt one for the device. The quad core + 2GB RAM + full rgb amoled screen yield an experience much like using a laptop so please dont listen to the ones who do not have the device yet and start comparing it to iphone5 out of boredom...doing that is like comparing the note 2 to a 1985 Motorola first generation phone.
Also for the first time I have absolutely no desire to put any custom roms on the phone....the firmware on the note 2 as it is now is an absolute triumph....I cant imagine why anyone would load crap made from the bedroom of some hairless nerd when you have a platform produced by hundreds of professional engineers that went through proper QA

You may change your mind about that when you find out your current rom doesn't support multi-windows.

Because historically, that 'crap' has been better than what the engineers put out?
If custom roms weren't better, each in their own ways, then nobody would use them.

I find this multiview issue to be weird. Cuz on the Swedish Note 2 manual that is the same as any N7100 it clearly states that multiview is available and how to activate it.
I saw a Swedish video of it with 4G obviously N7105 and sue enough. Multiview was shown.

[Q] Just got my Nexus 4 and it doesn't feel worth the price or "Nexus" label
Let's run down this list:
No LTE
720p screen is relatively standard
No hardware keys
Front camera is wimpy
No microSD
No USB Host/OTG out of box
Not easy to replace/disassemble
Poor impact protection (we've all seen the horrors)
Expensive replacement parts (what is it, $90 for the front?)
Average battery
I literally feel I'd be getting more with a One X or S3 for nearly the same price (I did get the phone directly from T-Mobile, which allows for exchange, though it is more expensive). So what if I have official Google support... what else makes this phone as great as people say it is?!? The GNex, and S2 also seem like better choices, if we are specifically discussing the same price point. The more I use it, the more iPhone-y it feels, just running 4.2.2 instead of iOS 7.
In summary: Why do you have this phone and why do you like it?

You did not do your homework before you bought it?
Alright...sorry for my answer, i just hate if people crying here..you knew the Phones Hadware etc. before you got it. I really like the Nexus, it has very good handling and is lightning fast. The 720p Display is perfect, just rember ; everything above 300ppi looks the same for your eyes. I had to decide between the S3 and the N4 but after a while of playing with the S3 of a friend, i didnt even thought about buying the S3 anymore. I hate TouchWiz, its ugly and it's laggin. Maybe you know someone with an s3/OneX where you can test the phone for yourself
Sorry for my bad English , im German and only 14 years old yet.

If I was to get an S3 or HTC One or One S or One X, the first thing I would to is S-OFF and install the latest CyanogenMod build. I would not stick to Sense/TouchWiz.

I mean that's kind of a given. My Samsung Mesmerize runs 4.2.2 because of CM, when it would otherwise be stuck at 2.3.4.

Okay, but i dont understand your question then, if you defintely wont keep Sense/TouchWiz , why would you get the S3 or the OneX/S instead of keeping the Nexus? They are nearly the same... except of the Screen Processor etc. And of course the Handling but i think the N4 is better in all those categories ?

The phones I listed have the features that a Nexus 4 doesn't. Other than a quad core processor, all I see is advantages on the other phones. The HTC One has better audio quality and camera, the S3 (IMO) has a better screen and is a lot more disassembly-friendly, and includes LTE, an SD card slot, and many more things.

4. Many phones feature 1080p front cams
7. Battery can't be swapped on the go.
8. $90 to replace the LCD and Touchscreen? Let's try $20 to replace the front glass on an S3 instead.
10. depends on the usage, kernel, clock and rom.

S2 has a nearly as well established dev community, i know the screen is only 800x480, but the processor speed is comparable, USB OTG is out of the box, dedicated buttons for actions.

No LTE - Not in my area, plus I get better speeds than cable with HSPA+.
720p screen is relatively standard - And more than sufficient for a 4.7 inch display. Why would you want to waste more battery and GPU pushing more pixels? Especially when you ***** about battery life and screen replacement cost just a few lines down.
No hardware keys - Nexus won't ever have them, but you knew that, right?
Front camera is wimpy - More than enough for it's intended purpose. Why would I want to compress more pixels for a video chat?
No microSD; No USB Host/OTG out of box - Design decision, but you knew that, right? Its a phone, I have no need for these.
Not easy to replace/disassemble - Did you check the iFixit teardown? More serviceable than most phones. I think the build design is very good.
Poor impact protection - The drop tests I saw had it compare favorably to the S3.
Expensive replacement parts (what is it, $90 for the front?) - Yes, due to a fused digitizer/display. Seems about average for both.
Average battery - Check out Qualcomm's Battery Guru.
In addition to my differences with the above assessments, I think the phone looks and feels great, works great, is open and unlocked (I will never be on contract again), and is priced at a point where I won't get sick if I lose it or drop it (which for me really adds to the usability).

I get great battery life. The GPS locks insanely fast. The phone is blazing fast. Dev support is second-to-none. It's gorgeous. It feels amazing in my hand. The screen looks great. I don't have to settle for CM.
Oh, and PA is developed specifically for this device. That means we get the new features first. And the builds aren't ports. They're compiled, fully functioning builds.
Its been a great phone and it was my first android phone. I loved it so much and is still loving it. But despite all my support to android. I have realized in the last two years that due to many OEMs and multi rage of android phones. The vendors are unable to update them regularly. Each OEM is just busy making new phones and they never focus on timely updates and keep the devices deprived from their functionality.
In the past I was not too supportive to most custom rom devs but it was only because of the stability issues. But now i have realized that it was they who actually did their best to make the devices as updated as possible.

Well, that's true, with a few minor modifications. The S1 isn't using an Exynos 4 SoC, but a Hummingbird (Exynos 3) which is a friendlier SoC to work with (that I've read at least), so the S1 developers haven't had the hair pulling experience with that one, like the devs have had here. The Note is still powerful for what it is, but that doesn't mean squat when it's not even possible to get everything working right. The Note is a dog with two broken legs. It walks, but it can't run like it should do.
I'm leaving the Note on Monday for the Z Ultra (yey!), and it'll be exciting to have a brand new, just released device again! So see you, suckaz! Okay, I'm joking. I'll still hang around here for a little while.

Well eaven if all devs move to other phones we still have the guys from CM, Slimbean, HellyBean and others like them who do not develop for the note just because they have the phone, they usually buy new phones but keep older ones for development aswell, so Note users are safe, it's one of the best dual-core around
I wonder if this guy is really this braindead or if it is just another google translate fail. Shall we vote?

its not dead it will reach end of support from Sammy. Its the lifecycle of phones, every quarter new gimmick, to sustain that pace, support lifecycles are shortened.
Yes the product will run for a couple of years longer. Which is why opening it up for communities from the start to carry the estafette past company support is vital. lol.
glad CM is making moves to do just that
I love this Note (thx Asylum) and could happily go another year on it.
Having said that, I need to go back to the HD2 days since I last had a 'top spec' phone, and the Note 3 is looking mighty tasty...

Oneupmanship
that's all it really boils down to one Oneupmanship, In my eyes there is not a phone to top the galaxy Note 1... it run just the way it was designed when new, you can change the rom's easy, loads of software, great people here who can help when in trouble... what more can one ask.
If you want speed then don't install crap filled with bloat wear,READ what is the best Rom's to use & I mean READ.
Just because your friends are getting the all dancing and singing new phone as seen on TV, don't mean you need the same one...
THINK for your self....... its still a PHONE in the end.:fingers-crossed:

Ya ur right crying because this phone deserved really more. Ensing it at this phase with a laggy stock rom will not be a justice to it. It can go a long way, but without official support it will slowly die. So its good to cry for what u love. I am not a new texh geek like u. I have been using this device for the last 2 years and like my older devices i have emotional stuff with it. So even if i switched, it will be with me

Im gonna stay with the note 1. I dont game on the phone, i have an xbox for that. All the apps i use still work fine, while i understand the temptation of a new shiny phone... that feeling usually only lasts a couple months and at the end my mobile daily habbits and productivity would stay unchanged.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I work in a phone shop and I can state personally that the Note 1 is still a decent phone. I say that using CM10.2 which really gets the most out of it but the latest TW Rom's aren't bad either.
Feature wise the Note does the main things that everything else does to a good level, not like a Galaxy Ace. If you got the new Note everything is a little bit faster and better, but apart from the IR blaster (small addition) there isn't many outstanding new features that differentiate it from its original - for example something like a built in projector

Speed is open to interpretation. On paper the S600 on the HTC one or S4 in the shop are probably 4x faster (benchmarks) but in reality outside of gaming they load Facebook in 0.5 second compared to the Note's 2 second. No one is going to die because of that 1.5 seconds. Other apps on the Note load in near identical times so it's all down to whether you want the new technology rather than 'need'
