The size. Is it a problem? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hey guys
So thinking of picking up one of these, as I own a S2 and love the whole look and idea of the note.
But im currently in education, which means that the size may become and issue when moving around and travelling etc.
Just wanted to get ur thoughts and opinions in it.
Is the size ever annoying and not ergonomic? how does it do in terms of pockets etc?
Just voice ur opinions here. Also, im 15 yrs old so take my hand size and general size into account as well
thanks
Adam

This phone isnt too big.....other phones are too small

Well it ain't too big and you get use to it in a couple of days. the bigger the better
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

The best way is Try yourself with any of your friends galaxy note or if it's not possible then tack a piece of cardboard and cut it 146.9 x 83 x 9.7 mm. Now put it on your pocket or hand. If you feel comfortable than go for it.
SGN is a great device.
Press thanks button if it helped you.

I've had it for about 2 months now. First two days it was TOO big. Rest of the two months, it has been just the perfect size for me, in fact, it has been the perfect phone for me.
P.S. Lucky you! I had a Motorola W220 maybe when I was 15.

Aha thanks for all ur opinions guys im thinking of picking up one. Im sure i will grow to the screen size. I may get a one x though. Or a nexus :L ahh so many options!!

As you said you own S2 than I think no need to upgrade to SGN because you get only screen size better. Consider S3 or wait for Galaxy Note 2.
Anyways Thanks for Thanksgiving. (my first thanks on xda)

It is a problem, could be an inch or so bigger.

I have all of them lying here in front of me and an extremely hard time to decide which one to keep and which to sell again.. Problem: if i would have never used the Note, the nexus as well as the one x would have been extremely impressive. i actually bought the nexus and the one x because the note in certain circumstances really is too big for me (jogging etc.). but after 1 month of using this beast i am a little disappointed with the others.
main problem nexus: camera not as good, obviously smaller (otherwise it's like a small Note, at least with cm9 installed). battery slightly worse than Note, but still good in comparison with other handsets.
main problem one x: battery life (not taking into account the whole sense and other htc bloat). do not believe people that say battery life on the (international) one x is great, they are either coming from a previous htc device (and thus have really really low expectations), very light users, or pure fanboys. also, camera quality on the note (at least with stock Samsung Rom) is better, both for stills and video (with ics roms there are currently still some camera problems, but overall it's fine).maybe the one x would have the best lens etc., but software compression is too aggressive (pic file sizes point to this). however, camera software on / usability of the one x camera is by far the best, really stunning. burst Mode, take pics while shooting Videos, etc.
just a few thoughts off the top of my head..
in summary: if you are surfer primarily, no question: Note! otherwise, things start to be complicated. this, however, is purely the problem of having too much choices and of always comparing instead of being happy with what one has got: if one would simply receive one of these handsets, each would be equally awesome! (generally this is the reason why western people, me included, manage to be unhappy at times despite being in a really lucky position, and to spend waaay to much time with decision like this (no offense meant, i'm probably just writing my own cognitive dissonances from my chest. ;-)
good luck with your decision

The note for me has been awesome.. The size fits well in a pocket. Seems huge to begin with ( i came from the i9000) but wouldnt change it now. Ive had mine since december and apart from having it stolen (1. Thank god for insurance and 2. How the hell they got it out of my pocket without me knowing lol) its been amazing. The s-pen works like a dream and i actually use it quite often. The size is perfect for what i use it for gaming.. Reading.. Movies in bed..
I'd consider it a definite upgrade from the s2
Not to mention i never get tired of ppl saying how big it is and my reply being why have u never held anything bigger than 4 inches in ur hand before?

YOu know the real Problem with the size is that if you ever want to go back no normal smarthphones it would be a pain.... the first week i was thinking is way to big... after that (4 months) now, im loving it.. everytime i touch an iphone its too small, now i cant go back to a normal size phone..... other than that its great !

Thanks for all that! The nexus camera is defo not as gd, and i guess the hardware to some degree. Im leaning towards not getting the one x :L its full of bloatware (although i dont really mind sense) has no s off and has apparently bad batt life. Doubled with the fact that its almost impossible to get one which isnt faulty -_-

Carry a tablet around for a week .......... that should answer your question
With the note you don't need a tablet . Once you have one and use one very difficult for many to go back to a smaller screen

i would like to know this as well im very interested in the G note
I like the note, but loved the sgs2. Sgs2 has less screen problems imo. Plus, battery life seemed better. I guess due to slightly smaller screen and the use of amoled plus technology. Shame I gave my sgs2 away before I made the comparison. If it wasn't for the rendering problems and battery, the note would win hands down imo. I guess U need to scan both forums to make ur mind up and try b4 U buy.

Sold my sgs2 for the note and havent look back. Im one of the note owners without screen issues and most will say it has the best battery life with the massive battery. I can easily squeeze 2+ days with light to moderate usage. 1 full work day(8-6) plus enough to finish the day. Ans just for kicks i run my processor at 1.7ghz.
Its a sgs2 with a bigger battery, screen and spen. I have big hands and can do 95% of things 1 handed.
You might not want to get a galaxy note because youll never look at a smaller phone/screen the same.

what kind of screen issues are u having?
The only thing I don't like only phone is lag. Hopefully all this will be forgotten with the new coming ICS. I can just read that some people have some hardware issues. I haven't any, it's like my Note was just perfect. The battery life is also great IMO. My gf has a S2, I've never seen myself using it for whatsoever. Beside, she's the one who asks my Note to watch video because of a bigger and better screen. So no way I can go bk to S2, no way

I've got a Note and a SII, and I've also not experienced any screen or hardware issues that others have reported.
The major difference is that I need to use both hands to comfortably scroll and text on the Note. My SGSII is running VillainRom3.0, and seems slightly quicker than the stock Note. But with a custom ROM, its is on par performance wise. As mentioned earlier, perhaps when ICS is released we will see a smoother UI that will utilise the Note's hardware.
I have found that the battery lasts longer on the Note, even though it has the larger screen.
I totally agree with you on You might not want to get a galaxy note because youll nev

I've been a previous owner of an S2, and I think if you're in the market for a large phone then this is your best choice. The resolution is just fantastic on the phone, the RGBG Pentile Matrix is barely noticeable, it is only seen if you zoom in really close. Expect the same speeds as the S2, maybe a little difference here and there. The S Pen is a wonderful piece of technology. All in all get it unless you want to wait for the S3. I might just wait for the Note 2.
Note: I have big hands so this phone is quite the perfect multimedia device.
Only one thing besides the facts already mentioned. The sgs2 has Premium SocialHub, so you have push on pop3 and imap emails. Note is missing this option and i hate it.

choppy pixelatation when displaying black images in video. it's my third replacement and each returned phone had it. Disappointing, as the screen is so important on this device; main reason I 'upgraded'. I guess I've been unlucky but it is a fault to be aware of.

SGS2 is a great phone but how come no one talks about the battery life on SGS2 ? My friends with SGS2 (with custom roms etc) and a Stock SGS2 cant get a bettery battery backup than 10hrs. which i think is very low. I think the battery life alone is a factor in migration to a SGN.

Other than those two no problems at all, neither hardware nor software, and also I dont have any screen issues that others are reporting.
Best phone ever.

Samsung has made a huge mistake with the size of the S3!!

Where is the phone for those of us who dont like to carry a mini tablet in our pockets? A mid range small device wont do but a fully speced no compromises small device. I can bet the S3 wont sell as much as the S2 the size is now just ridiculous for many people.
What does samsung think there is no market for smaller high end phones anymore?? Ah no the sales of the iphone 4S would beg to differ. I personally know 3 people who didnt buy S2 simply because of size and got an iphone 4S. Wake up samsung you are really missing out on alot of customers and with the S3 the list is just going to be bigger.
Samsung loves making a gazillion phones and yet they cant make 2 versions of their flagship is beyond me.

IMO the Galaxy S3's screen size is the perfect size. To me, anything above 4.3 and under 5" is the sweet spot. Anything smaller makes the phone seem low end, and anything bigger hampers the phone's portability.
There's the iPhone for you if you don't like the size. Better get one quick though cause rumor has it they will bump the size up too as apparently nobody patented that yet.

I definitely like the new screen size of the S3 but i must admit that if they want to sell more, an S2 size might be the limit. However they claim that the increase in screen size has led to an increase of only 16% because of a compressed bezel. If that's true, then it might not really be a problem. Just check the galaxy note high sales. My cousin (iPhone sworn pastor), went to the phone Shop relating to an issue with his iPhone. There he met Mr Samsung Galaxy Note. He immediately feel in love with it's beautiful Samoled LCD and specs, ended back home with a brand new galaxy Note. His iPhone is now secondary, just as a backup phone.
Lesson; Size seems not to always matter when you like a phone. Minimalist might claim to like small screens until they see a beautiful large hd screen where browsing and internet can be more comfortable.

Samsung just thinks your hands get bigger every year, i wont be buying it too due to its size, its 0.5cm wider than my sgs2 which is ridiculous. Im not sure how huawai managed to fit a 4.5" screen on a phone and make it narrower than an sgs2, but whenever that phone is released im buying it.

its the way you said it. and the way you titled it. when u talk in an aggressive and negative nature... expect the responses to be in kind.
that being said, as long as that extra .44" of width over my gs2 fits in my hand, i will be getting one. i havent really herd any of the reviewers saying it feels huge. its also only a mm wider than the hox. <-- the biggest competitor to the gs3.
No, why are you getting so upset you want an, iPhone with its little screen go buy one, keep your iPhone envy d-bagness to your self, This is XDA, 4.8 in of awesome ill be getting a S3 FOR SURE

People complaining about the phones size should buy a smaller phone lol, if your disappointed oh well we all know in life no one can win everything or everyone over with their product.
If you think size will impact Samsung's sales you're very wrong people will buy the phone like mad.. Look at it this way here in the UK it said first 1000 people that buy the S3 will get a Galaxy tab. It ran out within the hour.. Imagine the sales all over the world. They sold over 20 million units of SG2's ...
I am not an android fan boy nor a company fan boy.. I have had bad experiences with a company called LG and their supposedly 3D phone which sucks worst year of my life with this crappy shyt..
I think the phone looks alight nothing wrong with it specs looks amazing test scores look brilliant and building roms will be superb on it no doubt like the SG2..
Besides the screen is a good size as i had the LG it was 4.3 inch's got used to it not a problem after that i could not even look at my HTC Desire it felt too small..

What he said
I've had the One X since launch and got my Galaxy S III two days ago.
The Galaxy S III in pebble blue is classier and more interesting looking device. The pebble blue color just looks incredible. However its slippery and hell and really feels cheap when it gets covered with fingerprints and feels all greasy. Happens even with clean hands.
The One X feels a lot more premium to hold but the GS III is more comfortable to hold.
The S III is fast as hell. I prefer Sense but Touchwiz is amazingly fast. It's ridiculous how Sense stutters and lags so much. Just opening up the damn app drawer will cause it to stutter momentarily. It's silly how HTC can't fix such trivial issues. Not to mention the terrible multitasking on it.
The unified design across all models makes it worth it to own this phone. If you're looking for accessories for the LTE One X its tough because that phone is ever so slightly different than the int One X.
The screen on the One X is far superior to AMOLED, although the GS III's display is an improvement over the One X. The One X is sharper, clearer, brighter, true whites and every color is realistic. The GS III might have blacks but the One X has every other color including white.

Not yet......
I am running out of patience though, waiting for Best Buy to fill my preorder which I placed in store on 6.5.12. The latest word is they aren't expected to do so until 6.28.12, which pisses me off cause people who preordered as recent as 6.21.12 are expected to get theirs today If I can convince the manager at my BB to waive the activation fee and exchange fee I think i'm gonna pick one up to hold me over until my GS3 arrives. It's getting more and more painful to hold on to this Atrix 2 as the days go by :crying:
Does the gps work? Samsung phones never had a working gps. That alone would make me regret buying it.
My GPS is spot on and locks very quickly. Having said that, I think that out of the box the One X was better for me. I cant stand Touch Wiz, especially Samsung's sms/mms app. Once we get some dev support I have no doubts it will be superior but the One X definitely held its own as well.
I have both and am trying to decide which to keep... I have 10-days left to return the One X..
The both ROCK and right now I am 60/40 in favor of keeping the S3..
Screen:
One X = 10/10 & S3 = 9/10
The One X screen is hands down the best I have ever seen.. WOW is really the only thing that needs to said.. The S3 screen is nice but the One X wins here..
Design:
One X = 8.5/10 & S3 = 8/10
The One X is a gorgeous looking device but it looses points for the power button placement and the volume rocker is hard to find / press.. The buttons on it are depressed to far.. The S3 is also very nice looking but it looses points for it's very plastic feel in the hand. The One just feels better to hold and look at..
Software: (Sense -v- TW)
One X = 8/10 & S3 = 9 /10
I have always liked TW better than Sense but Sense 4 is pretty darn sweet.. Some things I don't like in Sense is that it's a bit difficult to navigate the menus at times. It boots slow and has a few minor glitches here and there... Also it's currently only on 4.0.3 and multitasking is messed up..
Hardware:
One X = 8.5/10 & S3 = 10/10
Both have the same processor but the S3 has more RAM.. The camera on the One X is slightly better and the One X locks GPS faster... The S3 has a bigger and removable battery and an SD card slot. Phone quality is pretty simular on both devices..
Overall:
One X = 8.5/10 & S3 = 9/10
Both are AWESOME devices and it basically boils down to what each and every user wants / needs in a device.. You really can't go wrong with either of them.. I think the S3 wins because of the RAM, the SD card slot and the removable battery.. I think the One X wins because of the screen, build quality, and it's looks..
I will have both devices for the next week, so if you have questions feel free to ask.. Just remember we are different people who have different wants and needs so my opinion may differ from yours...

I have white, i think the colors are moot points. I much prefered my grey One X to the white version. I dont think it feels cheap, I just think people relate LIGHT to CHEAP. It could be made out of actual carbon fiber and people would still say the samsung feels too cheap.
The One X feels a lot more premium to hold but the GS III is more comfortable to hold.
Agree. I hate the power button location on the One X. Not only is it on the top, but its also on an angle that makes it hard to press when your finger comes naturally from the back
The S III is fast as hell.
Agree. Touchwiz is smoother, albeit, Sense is MUCH nicer. The only thing keeping me using the touchwiz launcher over Nova is the full size calendar widget.
The unified design across all models makes it worth it to own this phone. If you're looking for accessories for the LTE One X its tough because that phone is ever so slightly different than the int One X.
Agreed. It pissed me off to high heaven that the super sweet international One X dock was available, but not for my AT&T version.
The screen on the One X is far superior to AMOLED, although the GS III's display is an improvement over the One X. The One X is sharper, clearer, brighter, true whites and every color is realistic. The GS III might have blacks but the One X has every other color including white.
Eh. the pentile thing is overblown. Yes its not as good but the blacks alone make up for the "pentile" of the phone. Is the One X in the win? I think so, but not as much as people make it out to be.

Biggest boner kill for me with the sgs3 so far believe it or not is the stupid wall adapter they include. It's not the powerful one that came with the nexus or galaxy tab, but the old, outdated one from the focus. its 0.15A vs the Gnex's 1.0A. This will be the FIRST thing I buy ($12 on amazon or the HTC one for $6)

Had the international one x and its crap compared to this, only thing worth it in the x is the screen and even still the s3 is not that far behind. Sense is nothing but lag while touchwiz is very smooth. I rather have stock but this will do.

No lag here on clean rom 3.0. It's a shame we have to flash a custom rom to get a smooth sense but hey what's android without custom roms lol. I'm loving my one X but I'm having a hard time deciding on the removable battery and sd slot. Wish I could hold a s3 before my 30 days runs out in 2 days but doesn't look like displays will arrive before then.

Yeah, that's a tough one. My opinion is that the One X just doesn't compare. The multitasking alone is worth the trade. The screen isn't as sharp but it's not far off. The black levels and contrast , in my opinion, make the Amoled more enjoyable. This is coming from someone that hates pentile.
The S3 is more fluid and just feels a lot more polished. My wife got my One X, so I still have it to compare to. Keep in mind, these are my opinions and I am not throwing them out there as be all end all facts. Different strokes for different folks.

I really don't have any issues with the multitasking on the One X. Actually works pretty good. I think people don't actually understand how it works compared to what they were used to seeing. Instead of holding onto stale data, it refreshes automatically when switching back to an app, where in the past it just showed you the old data and then would update once you resumed using the app. Visually you see this and think that there is an issue, but I think this is really a cosmetic issue more than anything. No different in my opinion versus my Inspire 4g with ICS as far as functionality. Might be a little aggressive, but not prohibitive in any way.

Samsung Galaxy Note - I tried to like it :-(

I tried to like the Galaxy Note. I really did. However, the size is just to overpowering for me. Plus, I couldn't shake the fact that the GS3 has come out as a more feature-proof device.
When I first got the phone, I was in LOVE, LUST, whatever! However, pulling it out of my purse begin to feel like a chore and the noticeable lag was not something I felt I had to deal with on a $600.00 phone. Now, I know you say, well stall a new launcher/rom. But guys, these treats should ADD to a phone not mask faults/shortcomings.
I have to say, after hearing that the Note II may be a bigger size, I have to wonder what brave soul would carry it? Soon, will be putting Ipads up to our ears!
All in all, I want to say that I have enjoyed the Note forums and have learned soo much. Kudos, to those who LOVE their phones and I wish you a smooth free experience going forward.
P.S. Not looking for a fight, please don't start one. We are entitled to our opinions. That's what makes the world go round
Any Note owners considering the move to the GS3? I'd love to hear from you.
Im sad you feel like that but i guess its personal preference,
For me Ive adapted to the size, at first it was overwhelming but now it feels normal, All other phones feel miniature lol !!
Im also considering the SGS3, but not to replace my Note ! I have 2 lines with my provider and ones almost up, So I think I may get the S3 or hold out for the note2
that being said, Phones are getting bigger and bigger now, The HTC One X is big, Hell even the SGS3 is big !!
I dont make a lot of calls, and when i do i have my head phones / bluetooth headset in, So i rarely need to hold it to my ear.
I love my ''Phablet'' !!!
I could have bought an S3, but I chose the note instead. The S3 has a very slightly better camera sensor and two more cores on a slightly better CPU.
I see the Note's size as a plus, but that's entirely subjective. Both are great devices, and either will serve you well. Sometimes it takes a day or two to really know if you really like a device enough to keep it.
Today I asked a retailer if I could swap my SGN for S3.
I consider moving to S3 because of superbrick bug and screen issues.
But I'm still holding ..... isn't S3 another Samsung phone ?
Little confusion but I'll follow S3 forums and decide.
I was on the.original 5" bandwagon with the sell streak, I have had my note since November and I won't consider anything other than a note 2 for my next device.
There really is no going back from the.functionality of a 5" screen, for me at least.

You are not masking anything..bad choice of words.
Using a better ROM makes the phone faster and a lot smoother. There is no masking involved is all too real and proves that is not a hardware fault.
I do it with every phone and in the case of the NOTE. I am not changing unless it is for a NOTE 2 or similar.

Ever heard of these little battery-powered race cars from some years ago?
You buy one, Car A, and it goes like say, just for the sake of an example, 20mph. You buy another one, Car B, and it goes for 15mph.
Then you get yourself some aftermarket parts - engines, wheels, or whatever, and modified both Car A and Car B and now you're sure they are both in their fastest. After doing that, Car A now goes at 30mph, while Car B goes at 40mph. Car B is faster now even if it was slower to begin with. It had more potential than Car A - but that won't be realized without some effort on your part. Also, it's also useful to note that the manufacturers of these two cars may be different from each other and may also not be expecting what you intend to do modify their cars as well.
Heck, why am I even using toy cars as a comparison? Should've went straight to phone comparisons and the text would've been much shorter. XD
Anyway, I'm assuming you have a Note. Try not to throw it away and just play with it. Maybe you'll find time to like it some day.
This is the best phone i ever had and i don`t feel the need to buy the Galaxy S3.
I`am not realy fond of touchwizz so i am running CM9, the phone is super fast, has no lags and does work as it is supposed to be.
I love the big screen for browsing, games, video`s and photo`s.
I will probably only change for the Note 2 :victory:

Difference of opinion. I stand by my original statement. I even upgraded to ICS and while it made some difference in smoothness, the results were negligible plus it added some problems.
Adding to my original post. I also think the Note is going to become the red-headed step-child now that the GS3 is out. May not be true, but that is my gut feeling. Besides, I bought my note, last week -- Technically, I'm already using outdated equipment. For those who are passed their return windows, the Note is great, but for those who still have time to AT LEAST play with the SG3, I would.

The only my 1 BIG reason getting the Note is S-pen. It really saves my work days apart from other BIG cool features.
If the S-pen means a lots to you then all other smartphones, out there, are being nothing nowadays.
do you really need it?
I'm sensing that you don't need a Note or the S3.
The note is all about utility and function, not form or fashion.
Are you just uncomfortable with not having the latest?
Just how fast/smooth do you need it to be?
If UI speed is your main concern, you need Windows Phone 7.
Looks like you want a WP7 phone like a Lumia 900.

Interesting discussion, and I'd like to post my opinion as well.
What clearly differentiates the Note from other phones is the size. And the pen. I almost forgot about the pen, as I hardly use it. For me, a Note would be equally fine if it came without the pen. Some will disagree here, as they have other usage requirements.
I deliberately chose the Note due to the screen size. I had iphone and other phones, and I use the phone frequently to watch movies and to browse the web during my frequent travels. Having used iphone and others previously, I got more and more depressed with the small screens. I can say that I appreciate the Note's larger screen and its great resultion. It makes these tasks simply more fun.
If someone performs tasks such as phone calls and SMS, the larger screen size does not benefit (much). So appreciation with the phone is releated to its use.
So I believe the phone serves people with certain specific requirements, and other features/functions are then simply less important.
Unfortunately for me, watching movies is somewhat affected by the bad screen gamma as reported at many several in the forum. But I still would not want to change back to a smaller size, as I am not much disturbed by it and I can live with the issue (also because my screen is by far not as bad as what some guys report here).
If I ever (have to) change the phone, I wish it would have the following characteristics:
1. Approx. same screen size, but certainly not smaller
2. No gamma issue / better gamma calibration
3. Better back camera (better sharpness, less distortion, better light sensitivity)
4. Provide root access out of the box (no jailbreak/rooting required)
5. Better battery life of Android OS (probably requires better software programming skills)
Performance-wise, I am totally happy with what I have now, and I am not requiring more CPU cores or higher frequency. My phone has been totally responsive all the time out of the box since November 2011.
I had GB 2.3.5, 2.3.6 and ICS 4.0.3, am now on Paranoid Android 0.4 as I totally disliked the email app in ICS. So the operating system still matters somewhat. So it is good to have a choice here.
The only time I feel that the Note is too big is when I am in "dangerous" zones in the city where people could snatch your phone anytime! I mean if you take out a smaller phone, it would probably go unnoticed at 60% of times, but with the Note out in your hands, this huge beast will surely attracts everyone's attention in 99% rate!
Otherwise, I never encountered any so called problems that many people are complaining about!
Some adapt to Note's size, some don't. Good thing is that we have a choice. I'm really against Apple-like "one size fits all" philosophy.
from a gamer's perspective i say : f*ck all other phones, the screen is just perfect for my taste.

[Q] Just got my Nexus 4 and it doesn't feel worth the price or "Nexus" label
Let's run down this list:
No LTE
720p screen is relatively standard
No hardware keys
Front camera is wimpy
No microSD
No USB Host/OTG out of box
Not easy to replace/disassemble
Poor impact protection (we've all seen the horrors)
Expensive replacement parts (what is it, $90 for the front?)
Average battery
I literally feel I'd be getting more with a One X or S3 for nearly the same price (I did get the phone directly from T-Mobile, which allows for exchange, though it is more expensive). So what if I have official Google support... what else makes this phone as great as people say it is?!? The GNex, and S2 also seem like better choices, if we are specifically discussing the same price point. The more I use it, the more iPhone-y it feels, just running 4.2.2 instead of iOS 7.

The phones I listed have the features that a Nexus 4 doesn't. Other than a quad core processor, all I see is advantages on the other phones. The HTC One has better audio quality and camera, the S3 (IMO) has a better screen and is a lot more disassembly-friendly, and includes LTE, an SD card slot, and many more things.

S2 has a nearly as well established dev community, i know the screen is only 800x480, but the processor speed is comparable, USB OTG is out of the box, dedicated buttons for actions.

Please justify the upsides of owning an N4, and I will reply to S2 ownership.
I'm have my nexus 4 since today, and the phone it's amazing... I have the doubt to buy s3 or n4, and decide to nexus4, because of everything.... Better hardware, more beautiful... The card slot I don't care, or radio fm... Nexus it's awesome phone

No LTE - Not in my area, plus I get better speeds than cable with HSPA+.
720p screen is relatively standard - And more than sufficient for a 4.7 inch display. Why would you want to waste more battery and GPU pushing more pixels? Especially when you ***** about battery life and screen replacement cost just a few lines down.
No hardware keys - Nexus won't ever have them, but you knew that, right?
Front camera is wimpy - More than enough for it's intended purpose. Why would I want to compress more pixels for a video chat?
No microSD; No USB Host/OTG out of box - Design decision, but you knew that, right? Its a phone, I have no need for these.
Not easy to replace/disassemble - Did you check the iFixit teardown? More serviceable than most phones. I think the build design is very good.
Poor impact protection - The drop tests I saw had it compare favorably to the S3.
Expensive replacement parts (what is it, $90 for the front?) - Yes, due to a fused digitizer/display. Seems about average for both.
Average battery - Check out Qualcomm's Battery Guru.
In addition to my differences with the above assessments, I think the phone looks and feels great, works great, is open and unlocked (I will never be on contract again), and is priced at a point where I won't get sick if I lose it or drop it (which for me really adds to the usability).

I get great battery life. The GPS locks insanely fast. The phone is blazing fast. Dev support is second-to-none. It's gorgeous. It feels amazing in my hand. The screen looks great. I don't have to settle for CM.
Oh, and PA is developed specifically for this device. That means we get the new features first. And the builds aren't ports. They're compiled, fully functioning builds.
