Do you notice any black crush on dark scenes when you play videos on your note? how about screen tint on low and high brightness. does the note suffer from tint issues like the s3
Black clipping you mean?

Not sure what the difference is between black clipping and black crush, all i knw is that on my s3 when i view most videos with the exception of extremely high quality blu-ray rips, dark scenes appear to loose detail, as if the black become blocky almost like they are not rendering correctly. however bright scenes in daylight or well lit rooms tend to display fine. i was just wondering if the note 2 has solved these problems.
its a very common issues on super amoled hd
I couldn't find it on mine (GT-N7100, ordered from Expansys Austria, shipped from Marseille). I could'nt also find any hint in the englisch manual I downloaded from the Samsung Hongkong Site. I read in a short review that a long press on the back key should bring up the multiview side tab. It definitely doesn't on mine.
Beside the little less text on webpages (which doesn't disturb my surfing experience) I couldn't find a thing that is not better than on the N1.

The plus points for me:
- The screen - brighter, crisper, by far better test result with the black clipping image presented on XDA, good outside visibility. Better automatic brightness handling as far as I'm concerned.
- The pen - oval, so that you can't miss the button side, thicker, longer, riffled button, smooth on the screen
- The battery - I used mine a lot during the day (as it is when you test a new gadget ) and I'm on 28% battery. Very impressed.
- The notification led in different colors.
- The speaker (clearer, more bass)
- Air View works much better than on the promo videos. Practicable and fun.
- Camera with a faster shutter and a lot of bells and whistles.
- Speed of the device - it's just fun to use it.
- Slightly better positioning of volume keys and power key - didn't press the power key by accident so far.
- of course a lot of software improvements but that may come to the N1 too.
Hmm pity about the missing multi-window feature. It looks really cool in that Korean promo video. I would guess it will come in a future update though. There is no reason to make it a Korean exclusive.
Otherwise great to see that you are enjoying the phone. Personally I was impressed with it right from the start but I remember there was a feeling of disappointment among some posters at the announcement. I think a lot of it was because of the slightly lower resolution on the screen. Also it wasn't quite clear at the time that the Note 2 uses RGB instead of Pentile. Anyway clearly the Note 2's screen is great which, combined with all the other upgrades, makes it a worthy successor to a great phone.
Someone needs to get a dump of the korean ROM and make if flashable on the N7000 Note ASAP!!!!!
That is such a killer feature to not have!

Believe me, the Note 2 has so much AI built-in (smart stay, smart rotate, mouse hover, multi windows....i can go on all day) that it makes me realize the name "smartphone" is suddenly an apt one for the device. The quad core + 2GB RAM + full rgb amoled screen yield an experience much like using a laptop so please dont listen to the ones who do not have the device yet and start comparing it to iphone5 out of boredom...doing that is like comparing the note 2 to a 1985 Motorola first generation phone.
Also for the first time I have absolutely no desire to put any custom roms on the phone....the firmware on the note 2 as it is now is an absolute triumph....I cant imagine why anyone would load crap made from the bedroom of some hairless nerd when you have a platform produced by hundreds of professional engineers that went through proper QA

Because historically, that 'crap' has been better than what the engineers put out?
If custom roms weren't better, each in their own ways, then nobody would use them.

I find this multiview issue to be weird. Cuz on the Swedish Note 2 manual that is the same as any N7100 it clearly states that multiview is available and how to activate it.
I saw a Swedish video of it with 4G obviously N7105 and sue enough. Multiview was shown.

Awesome. Very nearly iPhone 4 ppi on 4.6 inches and its SAMOLED AND its 720p. I really hope this leak is real cause I'm sold on the display alone. I only hope the next nexus doesn't do away with the sd card slot >_<

Same. Super excited about the 720p screen. Considering my laptop is 15" and 1280x800 its quite astonishing how far screen technology evolved :\ Although apparently its still pentile but considering my Epic is already pentile I think I should be fine.
What I want:
1.5 GHz Dual Core (or even quad-core? maybe too early still)
10-12 MP Camera (There is an android phone expected to have a 12 MP camera soon, so it would be cool to see the NP have one)
720p display (which seems confirmed)
4.5-4.65" display (which is also likely)
BETTER BATTERY LIFE? (2000 mAh??!!?)
ICS will bring a huge update to the OS, but most likely UI which is cool
Anyone else agree?
Lol Galaxy S II already blows iPhone 4S out of the water:

I would agree with this for the most part. I don't think we'll see a quad-core in this guy quite yet. As for the camera, MP is only a fraction of what makes a good camera. I personally believe the camera on the Epic is pretty rock solid for a phone.
I think once you get over a 4.5" screen, it's getting to be too big for a phone. I would like to see it no more than 4.5". However, even with the lack of buttons, I'm surprised at how much 'dead' space there is at the bottom of the phone. I figured without the buttons, they would be able to utilize about the whole front as the screen. They can put the carrier branding crap on the back.
Not only would I like to see a bigger capacity battery, but I'm guessing ICS probably has some good things in it which will improve batter life as it is.
If this thing comes to Sprint, it shall be my next phone, without question!
Yeah the biggest issue being Verizon will probably be the first to get it.... My upgrade is available yet I have to wait more... /firstworldproblems

Will someone please tell me where all these ridiculous rumors that Verizon will get any exclusivity on the next Nexus came from? Let's stack up the evidence:
1) Verizon to this date is the ONLY carrier who does not currently have even 1 Nexus phone.
2) Verizon actively refused these phones because they couldn't ruin them with bloat; a factor that has not changed.
2a. The Nexus phones aren't crazy big sellers and thus wouldn't change Verizon's decision, especially not enough to make them pay for exclusivity.
3) Google is crazy in bed with Sprint right now with Google Wallet and Google Voice being exclusive services currently.
4) Google just tricked the Nexus lines current customers into signing 2 year contracts with T Mobile and Sprint; why would they intentionally screw developers by making it so they can't get this Nexus device without an ETF?
Evidence FOR Verizon exclusivity:
1) the words "Droid" and "Prime" were once seen written on the same line of text? And there is absolutely no proof that that phone exists or is not just a bloated Nexus variant.

They seem to be sticking to the shape of the OG Nexus. Does anyone know if it will have no SD card slot and be all internal memory? I remember when people thought the OG Nexus would be dual core as well. I will wait for iron clad proof that its coming to Sprint and has at least a bigger battery and more powerful processor because that screen has got to use more battery

This was true, until Sprint went and dumped $20B towards Apple. I really hope that didn't piss off Google too much. If I were getting cozy with someone and they went and did something like that, I would seriously have to reconsider my association/partnership with them.

And I would consider that compelling evidence against exclusivity on sprint as well. The decision for which carriers were getting this was made months ago and its unlikely that sprint was talking to google about buying the iphone all the way back then.

i would like to know this as well im very interested in the G note
I like the note, but loved the sgs2. Sgs2 has less screen problems imo. Plus, battery life seemed better. I guess due to slightly smaller screen and the use of amoled plus technology. Shame I gave my sgs2 away before I made the comparison. If it wasn't for the rendering problems and battery, the note would win hands down imo. I guess U need to scan both forums to make ur mind up and try b4 U buy.

Sold my sgs2 for the note and havent look back. Im one of the note owners without screen issues and most will say it has the best battery life with the massive battery. I can easily squeeze 2+ days with light to moderate usage. 1 full work day(8-6) plus enough to finish the day. Ans just for kicks i run my processor at 1.7ghz.
Its a sgs2 with a bigger battery, screen and spen. I have big hands and can do 95% of things 1 handed.
You might not want to get a galaxy note because youll never look at a smaller phone/screen the same.

The only thing I don't like only phone is lag. Hopefully all this will be forgotten with the new coming ICS. I can just read that some people have some hardware issues. I haven't any, it's like my Note was just perfect. The battery life is also great IMO. My gf has a S2, I've never seen myself using it for whatsoever. Beside, she's the one who asks my Note to watch video because of a bigger and better screen. So no way I can go bk to S2, no way
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I've got a Note and a SII, and I've also not experienced any screen or hardware issues that others have reported.
The major difference is that I need to use both hands to comfortably scroll and text on the Note. My SGSII is running VillainRom3.0, and seems slightly quicker than the stock Note. But with a custom ROM, its is on par performance wise. As mentioned earlier, perhaps when ICS is released we will see a smoother UI that will utilise the Note's hardware.
I have found that the battery lasts longer on the Note, even though it has the larger screen.
I totally agree with you on You might not want to get a galaxy note because youll nev

I've been a previous owner of an S2, and I think if you're in the market for a large phone then this is your best choice. The resolution is just fantastic on the phone, the RGBG Pentile Matrix is barely noticeable, it is only seen if you zoom in really close. Expect the same speeds as the S2, maybe a little difference here and there. The S Pen is a wonderful piece of technology. All in all get it unless you want to wait for the S3. I might just wait for the Note 2.
Note: I have big hands so this phone is quite the perfect multimedia device.

choppy pixelatation when displaying black images in video. it's my third replacement and each returned phone had it. Disappointing, as the screen is so important on this device; main reason I 'upgraded'. I guess I've been unlucky but it is a fault to be aware of.

The screen is only 4", but you're probably talking about the projected image. But if you're thinking the projected image is going to look even remotely good enough to "enjoy" you're fooling yourself - 15 lumens is pretty weak. And on top of that battery life is probably going to be dismal, other features will definitely be removed or skimped on to make room for the projector (and to keep the cost down), and Samsung will abandon this thing update-wise faster than you can say "Samsung will abandon this thing update-wise". For all those reasons I wouldn't touch this thing with a 10' pole. The more I think about it, you have yourself a recipe for the worst phone of 2012 brewing in this thing.
This video was filmed at MWC2012 at Barcelona.

You can see the main functions and the projector. I am here for any questions.
Interesting concept but projector quality and battery life are probably lacking.
Hey!
I have used the phone for a week now and it's absolutely amazing! Here's a video review I made. I apologize for the bad quality in the dark shots, but my cameras are too average to handle it. I can assure you the image is crisp clear in complete dark rooms, but in even the slightest light you loose details and sharpness, and as you can see in my video, in the evening (it was 7 pm), you can't see a thing.

how was the battery life on it, is it for like a short time use on battery? or can you play an entire movie?
It can go a full 5h on one charge, so they say, but i have never tried to drain the battery on the projector only. What's more, you get a second battery you can charge independently and simultaneously so watching a full movie is a piece of cake. As far as a smartphone goes, it uses the battery fairly ok, you can easily get more than an entire day on 3g, wifi and others.

I have used the phone for a month now. I considered getting it for its battery life more than for its projector. The price is as expected if you consider that pico projectors cost ~£70 on ebay. Nevertheless I am so pissed off with any smartphone's battery life in general that I would easily pay £70 to get one that gives best possible.
This phone has 4" and 2 batteries with 2000miliamphours close to SGSIII or the new google nexus that have much bigger screen. So if I don't use the projector but every thing else turned on 24/7, Wifi, 3G, live wallpaper, skype, steam, 6 im+ accounts and normal to heavy use, I can get 2 days without charging AND having the 2nd battery that comes in the box for another 2 days.
I was expecting the projector to be nothing more than a gimmick and not good as it actually is! With flash support I can stream live tv on my wall or ceiling. I had to craft a base for it from a little box so that it can stay upright and charge at the same time. Sure it needs to be dark but for the times of the day that i wanted to use it, darkness was not a problem. Even in daytime thought, I can use a A4 sheet of paper across the desk from where its charging and play videos or tv shows as an additional 10-12" screen on my desktop.
So your assumption about battery life, sorry to say but it is false. The battery life on this phone is one of the best out there, just because they needed to do so to support the projector. The projector is a feature more than it is a gimmick and it has proven useful for me on every day use.
Cons:
-I've only heard announcements for official upgrade to JB but I haven't received one yet. Still running GingerBread.
-no 3rd party support for roms and kernels, yet., I am missing features such as USB-OTG and overclocking. Barely a rooting guide exists.
-no dedicated XDA forum for GT-I8530
-stock prevents me from using the projector while gps is locating.. (not a yuge problem imo, just annoyance)
Overall the phone is a WIN situation for me. Official or 3rd party support is a matter of time.
Why is there no XDA forum for it? They should start turning op pretty cheap on ebay and with the projector it's an obvious candidate for custom applications.

First impressions:
1. The display is much more beautiful and improved (than the Note2)
2. I didn’t see the ugly effect of Pentile (grainy, bad text edges) that used to be in my Note1
3. It’s feel good in the hand (lighter than the Note2), although the corners are less rounded (a little bit less ergonomic, it thinness helps to compensate the effect)
4. It’s look good (front and back), better than what the photos shows
5. I can play 4K videos smoothly (I enjoyed the full 48 Minutes of TimeScapes without any issues)
6. It took me a while to locate the microSD slot (it’s stacked on top of the microSIM slot)
7. The front panel edges is raised a little above the display level, that makes any touch gestures from the edge a little bit less ergonomic (i still didn’t get used to it), although the raised edges may help better protect the display .
8. The new S Pen is good, writing and drawing with the pen much improved (more smooth)
9. The speaker is not loud enough as i like, the sound quility not the best in a smartphone (still good though), the speaker new postion (on the bottom) have it pros and cons.
10. The new MicroUSB 3.0 is not as ugly as it looks in the pictures, but still it’s weird looking and add level of complexity and difficulty when you want to plug your cable.

Nova?
Would you mind installing Nova Launcher or any other launcher and seeing what features no longer work?
I believe on the N2, TW widgets don't work, but I'm curious if any of the new or updated features are App based or TW based and if any functionality will be lost using another launcher. I haven't owned a Note before, so I'm not sure what features are App or TW when it comes to all the gestures, S-pen, and all the dragging and dropping of items from one window to another.
If by chance root doesn't come quickly or at all, I'm hoping at least with Nova, I could get the look I'd like, but don't want to lose many things that make the Note such a great device.
can you run like 5 apps and tell us how much available ram there is, and then switch between all the apps and tell us if any pages reload

Yes this! It's always annoying to "alt-tab" back to a page that you were looking at on Chrome and it reloads it
How are the radios?
AFAIK Samsung hasn't had any problems since the Nexus (which I had, and it sucked) but call quality is #1 for me.
Is it easier to hold and talk on than the N2?
When you say speaker not loud enough - the external speaker or the ear speaker?
TIA
For use as a phone
How is the phone for calls and signal strength?
How much internal memory does it have new? I know it's 32GB but when formatted with the stock software what is it? Thanks! I'm still waiting on my Note 3 from Verizon!

I need to ask about the pentile display. I see that you said it is improved and cant see the grainy text but i have a question about horizontal areas. I got rid of my s3 in 2 days because I could actually see the blue pixels on any high contrast area that was horizontal, such as the image for the gmail app or play store. I am near sighted and I could see those pixels to the point where i gave up and upgraded to the note 2 (ended up being the best phone i ever used) but I was glad that they got rid of the pentile display on the note 2. Then the s4 and note 3 come out with a pentile display again. And once again I look at my girlfriends s4 and even though it has a great pixel density I can see the damn blue pixels on horizontal, high contrast areas. Please, oh please tell me if it is better on the note 3 because it would be a HUGE deal breaker to the point where I would cancel my pre-order.

I'm using action launcher at the moment but have also set-up nova as well. I haven't noticed any problems other than not being able to use some of the Samsung widgets.

Hi. Please post some results of brightness comparison with S4 if possible. If not possible, then atleast please let us know how the screen holds up in direct sunlight, compared to your older note(s).
Also, please tell us about the flash light brightness and picutre difference due to flash light.

Can we see how the sd and sim stack?
Hi, I was wondering if you could test to see if the Note 3 suffers from the same audio drop-out problem as the Note 1 does (described at the link below). Basically, if you listen to any audio at very low volume (3 or less) and the audio goes very quiet, then the audio just drops completely as if the device were muted. It's best to test this using headphones. Thanks!
Code:

Can I have it?
Hi, I was wondering about the "space" where you write text with the s-pen. is it possible to change the background from a white space to black? also what color is the keyboard? - black letters on white keys or white letters on black keys? my impaired vision make it difficult to see black text on bright white backgrounds. thanks.
Did you notice any lag while browsing, scrolling or using the phone? how's the battery with heavy usage?
and did you notice any frame rate drop?
last one, how's the screen responsiveness?
thnx..
blu ray rips, uncompressed?
Can you see if it will playback a 20+GB uncompressed bluray rip made using makemkv.com?
I have a thread here on the topic, but no confirmation:

now it's just a matter of waiting and expecting good results. so hoping for awesome battery test scores, even though i'm sure the phone will do just as good as the others.
That white color looks so nice. But they said it was matte, which means that it will be more prone to staining.. Ah, I'll probably get white anyways. It looks too good!

Until when? Does the NDA forbid video demonstrations of the speakers & brightness slider? Reviews (without some more objective metrics) are just subjective thoughts, what's the difference between first impressions & preliminary review?

I've been subject to Google NDAs before product release but preorders happened on 10/29 & it's November already..hopefully these NDAs will allow for more before Nov 12..:good:

My Nexus 6 review unit arrived yesterday and after a day of testing, I can say that it compares well against the iPhone 6 Plus. Google isn’t allowing reviewers to publish full-scale reviews until November 12th, but is permitting “first impressions.”..
The full article also reasonably addresses first impressions of screen and sound quality ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56436133&postcount=3 ) well & includes a solid (albeit likely not its full resolution) photo of the author's dog.

I generally dislike white phones with a passion... Usually it is because the front is also white which looks terrible IMHO for viewing video etc... I'm totally with you, the nexus 6 looks amazing in white! It will be my first white phone, by choice!

From that one image, it's true not everything is in focus like many Note 4 images I've seen posted online that seem to make all distances extra sharp but I'm used to tap to focus on what I want in focus & otherwise looks fine but it's just one image with what I assume is a default auto-focus setting on a dog that looks close which could likely benefit from a focus tap.
Regarding the cloud white color, I do agree it's a nice white since the bezel is still black & seems to make the handset look thinner from the side but perhaps wider-larger from the back so I'm still leaning toward Midnight Blue even if its blue rim looks a bit too purple in photos. I always put a case on my handsets likely start with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OH4I2IC/

Oh yes of course! I meant to say the reviewer took a poor photo.
Update: After some confusion over the seemingly inconsistent tap-to-wake functionality, I reached out to Google for official confirmation and was informed that the Nexus 6 does not include tap-to-wake functionality. It would seem my review unit responded to tap-to-wake simply because of the very slight motion caused by tapping the device, not because it's an actual feature of the device.
That said, the lift-to-wake functionality works and nearly obviates the power button. Without the Moto X's extreme sensitivity though, you'll likely still find yourself hitting that little textured button.
Also, wireless charging is present. I don't own the Nexus charging pad (only the charging orb from the Nexus 4 era) so I can't comment on how well the device sticks to the pad's magnets, only that magnets do seem to grab specifically around the Nexus logo. I can say however that the device is very nearly too big to use the orb, and its rounded back keeps the Nexus 6 from quite hanging on. This isn't too shocking for a years-old accessory that wasn't designed with the N6 in mind, though.
I haven't had much time to really put the device through its paces in terms of battery, gaming, etc., but I'll be working on that for the full review.
Was looking forward to tap and wake. Oh well, who cares. It's an awesome phone, spec wise.

I'm not convinced that tap to wake makes sense with the ambient display feature.

I am hoping a custom kernel might give us this feature since SD805 supports this (LG G3 uses same chip and has this feature).
I know the N6 supports Qi charging, but have any of the sites that have given their first impressions mentioned whether the N6 has the magnets inside to hold the phone on the wireless charger like the N5 has?
