I need a little bit of help.
I've just started having a very annoying problem with my HD2. I does not shut down.
Each time I try to shut it down it just restarts.
If I have the battery taken out and I put it back in, the phone turns on automatically.
I tried various ROMs, reinstalled the HSPL, used Task29 various times and the problem it's still there.
And the most annoying is that when the battery reached the critical status (low %), the phones just enters a continuous loop of restarts until the battery is completely dry. Because I cannot turn it off the only solution is to take the battery out until I have the opportunity to charge the device
I don't know if it is a software or hardware problem. I think it should be software but still I do not have any clue on it.
Did anybody had this problem up to now? Any help would be more than welcome.
interesting problem. Most times if a problem persists across hard resets/ rom flashes with task 29, etc, then it is usually a hardware problem.
Have you tried calling your carrier or htc for tech support, maybe a new phone?
Solution?
Hi,
I also had this same problem. I solved it, strangely, by plugging the phone in to charge then unpugging and reseting. Hope this works for you too!
Scott
Unfortunately I cannot benefit from the warranty service or free replacement.
The repair costs would not be an issue. The only thing that bothers me is that I don't know if is a hardware or software related.
If I consider the symptoms it should be soft related. But if I consider the thing that nothing of the above mentioned worked, then I have to tag it as hardware issue.
The only thing that could trigger such a behaviour is the fact that this weekend I had it in some high temperature environment ... trying to hold the phone which was charging, in a car without AC, outside temperature 37 Celsius in the shadow, I almost burned my hand ... so maybe some strange protection was triggered.
Another strange behaviour it had, is that i could not charge it on various trials. With the charger connected, in car or at home, it would not charge and the signal led which on normal charge is amber, in these cases was blinking between amber and green.
if the phone gets too hot, it won't charge. That is a safety feature.
Make sure you check your battery contacts as well, where the battery sits in the phone. If the middle one is bent so it doesn't make contact with the phone, it can give you the flashing led.
I thought I read on here that the hd2's were warrantied by htc for 2 years, based off serial number. Wouldn't hurt to call and see.
But it sounds like something fried in the heat.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to see if I can have a service check on it.

This issue has been discussed many times. A lot of people (including myself) has this problem. Try to put it into standby mode and after half a second, the screen comes back again. I have searched the forum many times, seems that no one has come up with a complete solution. Looks like it is not a hardware issue as most people found that if you connect it with your PC in activesync mode, it will resume normal.
My experience :
1. The problem just come up all of a sudden. Haven't install any software or apply any tweaks a couple of days before it happened.
2. Try to look into the active service via memmaid, nothing special.
3. Restore from previous backups when the machine hasn't got any problem. Didn't help.
4. Soft reset a couple of times. No use.
5. Hard reset finally. Problem still there.
6. Start to doubt that it is a hardware problem.
7. Use the plugin method. Normally after activesync, it resumes normal.
8. Also try to plugin micro USB without real connection. It sometimes works.
(I started to think that it might not be a hardware problem. It is obvious that when plugging in, something "stops".)
9. However, either way, it will happen again all of a sudden.
10. Start to take a few irrational moves : install BSB tweaks (haven't install since it sometimes crashes with Cookie's home). Switch to power saving mode with BSB.
11. Stop windows live autosync.
12. Install XDA shutdown. Whenever connected to PC via activesync, will manually put HD2 to sleep mode using XDA shutdown. Then unplug.
It has been four days now, everything resumes normal. The problem just gone all of a sudden. I really don't know what is the reason behind and which steps being taken is a solution. Anyway, that's my experience. Will update again for any changes again.

but if the problem persists across several roms and radios, how can it be software related? The fact that plugging it into the computer or charger sometimes fixes it, leads me to believe that it is the female usb connector that is the problem.

You might be right. I really dun know if it is a hardware or software problem. But, it's kind of interesting that after u plugin it will work for quite some times. And, it will come back after the next soft reset.
OMG!! ... this means that I've just got the HD2 Ebola disease. )
Now being serious, after flashing 3 ROMs, hundred of soft resets, battery in out ... and one long night ...I just give up.
I will just try not to have the phone discharged. I hope there will be a solution sometimes soon.
Possible solution
I had the same problem.
I removed the cover, cleaned the two contacts on the back of the cover and for some unknown reason it returned to normal (although I was holding a pencil in a threatening manner to the red reset button).
What are these nodules for? I think more to do with reception, but it worked perfectly.
Hello all. Sorry to post about this, but I see it's a somewhat common issue with some other 'Droids and figured I'd toss this in here to see if anyone else has had any issues.
Basically, whenever a USB cable is plugged into my computer and the phone, the screen stops responding properly. I've heard this could be a kernel issue?
Any suggestions?
not sure, its it fully unresponsive? I have minor issues with it not working for time to time but it will come around. This is both on and off USB. I just wiped everything and reinstalled super clean 1.0 and that fixed it, I also installed only apps I need and none are on SD as I think SD is not so responsive in this leak. My gallery app takes forever to load and I have a class 6 SD card.
I'm using RubikS' ROm of Froyo and just pluged my phone into my computer and the gui and all touch elements are working without issue. What version of Froyo are you using?

I notice this when I'm charging the phone, I just avoid having to use it while it's plugged in.
I have my phone pluged in at work to my laptop all the time and have never seen an issue with the touch screen.
Not all USB power connections are the same
I have the USB provided with my fascinate. In addition, I have a cheap power only mini-USB connector. When I use the latter, on any ROM, I find the touch screen to be non responsive. When I use the stock power it works. Just a FYI, so please check your power cord first.
I'm using the stock cable that came with my phone (of which I picked up this last Saturday).
Right now, I'm running the Blackhole ROM, it happens quite often, but there are a few instances where the touchscreen does work fine. It seems to happen mostly whenever the screen goes to sleep and requires an unlock.
I don't think it could be the Blackhole rom, as it would have been more widely reported... could it be? I have absolutely no issues otherwise with it (Except pressing the redial button crashes the dialer and hitting "Setup Wizard" in the options causes an exception/FC)
this has always happened to me, i think its just an electric interference from the charger to the screen. a better cable might fix the problem but i'm not positive on that, just conjecture
Don't use 3rd party chargers/ cables, this is a known issue to messing up the touchscreen. Also hold your phone while you use it, you need to do this because it seems to ground the phone and make it responsive. I have tested this on a few phones and they do not like it when you touch the screen while you are not holding it.
Hey guys,
I am having 2012 wifi 8GB N7 for more than yr now and have recently started getting irritating problem making it unusable.
Its behaving as if its power button is continuously pressed even when i am not touching the tablet or sound / power buttons. Its operating on its own to restart, bring power menu in every situation i put it in, like in system standby condition, powered down condition or in bootloader or even in CWM recovery. Its operating function corresponding to power button.
Tablet is out of warranty so i am trying to troubleshoot and fix it myself (as far as i can) and but getting any clues from online available material too. Also out of warranty repairs are costly / worthless if service guy decide to change its PCB.
If anyone has faced similar issue/ got solution/ got it fixed from service guys, please suggest me what can be done. Is it a software issue or hardware issue like.
So far I have tried factory roms of 4.2.2, 4.3, CM versions and AOKP versions in rooted, non rooted, bootloader locked unlocked conditions. And from my understanding its not related to any roms. Heck it shows this erratic behavior even in bootloader mode or in CWM recovery.
Can there be anything which service guys do as far as software is concerned which we cant do, so that i can give them to fix it?
Looks like a hardware issue. The internal part of the button may be loose.
Sent from my AUXUS Nuclea N1 using xda app-developers app
Ain't nobody faced such issue ever? Please guys i need some inputs.
So far i tried disconnecting power/ volume button strip/ cable from motherboard and let it idle for sometime. Even tried booting with that strip removed, but it didnt solve the problem. So my thinking of this strip being the culprit is wrong (from my understanding).
Thought of giving an update to this issue..
Dismantled N7 completely taking help of youtube videos. Booted back up and problem persisted but with extreme low frequency. i.e. power command executed on its own after a long time. So used tablet for half and hr, updated it to 4.4.2 which was not possible in the condition it was in before. Later problem aggravated to initial level again. i.e. continuous restart, no operation possible.
So left tablet in powered off condition for a day. Switched it on again. And could use it for same half an hr without facing any problem. After that problem started troubling again.
If anyone can think of resolution, would appreciate assistance.
Thanks.
Another pleasant update.
Tab was lying unused for months with battery fully discharged. And later when i checked at random without even expecting any change in its condition..... it started perfectly.
And its working without any issue now. Hope this will help someone else facing problem.
So a searched everywhere and could not find a thread where a similar question has been asked, if so I apologize and please redirect.
My Nexus 10 screen will no longer power on. The tablet will vibrate if I attempt to power on and power off but the screen is unresponsive. I tried connecting it to my PC to see if it would register and sure enough it registers as a media device (that rules out dead battery). Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going on with the tablet? How to fix or what to replace?
TIA
Hi,
If the screen isn't turning on, then I'll give you a wild guess that the problem is with the screen. Did Android boot? Did you see the Google screen popping up when turning on? Did your tablet fall in the floor recently? If the problem is really the screen then it can be that it either died (then you will need to replace) or some cable disconnected.
Try opening it and checking if all the cables are well insterted. There are plenty of videos of people doing that on the internet you just need to search .
Good luck,
~Lord
Tablet has never been dropped (no dents or cracks). The Google logo does not appear on boot. It is possible that the screen has just stopped working but just seems odd. The main reason I posted this was to see if anyone else has experienced something similar to this. I agree with your suggestion about opening up the tablet and checking all of the ribbons to make sure everything is properly seated and that nothing is loose, I just know that's a lot of work and wanted to see if anyone had positive results doing that before I get started..
Thanks

Has anyone encountered this annoying touchscreen problem? It simply stops responding at times at specific locations on the screen. But it's really hard to reproduce the error at will. Is this a hardware problem or a software one? I am on rooted stock rom.

Me too bro but its not a big problem as such its like sticky keys in windows. Like the same key presses are avoided.
Try reflashing the stock firmware. It could be a hardware problem, so if reflashing stock firmware doesn't help, try service center
Cheers,
AJ

Me too, but my phone's touch screen goes wrong if I press 3 point at once. Not at specific location. The only cure I know is reboot. If i have spare time, i'll contact lenovo service centre
