(Froyo) Touchscreen not responding when plugged into computer's USB - Fascinate General

Hello all. Sorry to post about this, but I see it's a somewhat common issue with some other 'Droids and figured I'd toss this in here to see if anyone else has had any issues.
Basically, whenever a USB cable is plugged into my computer and the phone, the screen stops responding properly. I've heard this could be a kernel issue?
Any suggestions?

not sure, its it fully unresponsive? I have minor issues with it not working for time to time but it will come around. This is both on and off USB. I just wiped everything and reinstalled super clean 1.0 and that fixed it, I also installed only apps I need and none are on SD as I think SD is not so responsive in this leak. My gallery app takes forever to load and I have a class 6 SD card.

I'm using RubikS' ROm of Froyo and just pluged my phone into my computer and the gui and all touch elements are working without issue. What version of Froyo are you using?

I notice this when I'm charging the phone, I just avoid having to use it while it's plugged in.

I have my phone pluged in at work to my laptop all the time and have never seen an issue with the touch screen.

Not all USB power connections are the same
I have the USB provided with my fascinate. In addition, I have a cheap power only mini-USB connector. When I use the latter, on any ROM, I find the touch screen to be non responsive. When I use the stock power it works. Just a FYI, so please check your power cord first.

I'm using the stock cable that came with my phone (of which I picked up this last Saturday).
Right now, I'm running the Blackhole ROM, it happens quite often, but there are a few instances where the touchscreen does work fine. It seems to happen mostly whenever the screen goes to sleep and requires an unlock.
I don't think it could be the Blackhole rom, as it would have been more widely reported... could it be? I have absolutely no issues otherwise with it (Except pressing the redial button crashes the dialer and hitting "Setup Wizard" in the options causes an exception/FC)

this has always happened to me, i think its just an electric interference from the charger to the screen. a better cable might fix the problem but i'm not positive on that, just conjecture

Don't use 3rd party chargers/ cables, this is a known issue to messing up the touchscreen. Also hold your phone while you use it, you need to do this because it seems to ground the phone and make it responsive. I have tested this on a few phones and they do not like it when you touch the screen while you are not holding it.

[Q] HD2 will not turn off properly. Any solution?

I need a little bit of help.
I've just started having a very annoying problem with my HD2. I does not shut down.
Each time I try to shut it down it just restarts.
If I have the battery taken out and I put it back in, the phone turns on automatically.
I tried various ROMs, reinstalled the HSPL, used Task29 various times and the problem it's still there.
And the most annoying is that when the battery reached the critical status (low %), the phones just enters a continuous loop of restarts until the battery is completely dry. Because I cannot turn it off the only solution is to take the battery out until I have the opportunity to charge the device
I don't know if it is a software or hardware problem. I think it should be software but still I do not have any clue on it.
Did anybody had this problem up to now? Any help would be more than welcome.
interesting problem. Most times if a problem persists across hard resets/ rom flashes with task 29, etc, then it is usually a hardware problem.
Have you tried calling your carrier or htc for tech support, maybe a new phone?
Solution?
Hi,
I also had this same problem. I solved it, strangely, by plugging the phone in to charge then unpugging and reseting. Hope this works for you too!
Scott
Unfortunately I cannot benefit from the warranty service or free replacement.
The repair costs would not be an issue. The only thing that bothers me is that I don't know if is a hardware or software related.
If I consider the symptoms it should be soft related. But if I consider the thing that nothing of the above mentioned worked, then I have to tag it as hardware issue.
The only thing that could trigger such a behaviour is the fact that this weekend I had it in some high temperature environment ... trying to hold the phone which was charging, in a car without AC, outside temperature 37 Celsius in the shadow, I almost burned my hand ... so maybe some strange protection was triggered.
Another strange behaviour it had, is that i could not charge it on various trials. With the charger connected, in car or at home, it would not charge and the signal led which on normal charge is amber, in these cases was blinking between amber and green.
if the phone gets too hot, it won't charge. That is a safety feature.
Make sure you check your battery contacts as well, where the battery sits in the phone. If the middle one is bent so it doesn't make contact with the phone, it can give you the flashing led.
I thought I read on here that the hd2's were warrantied by htc for 2 years, based off serial number. Wouldn't hurt to call and see.
But it sounds like something fried in the heat.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to see if I can have a service check on it.

This issue has been discussed many times. A lot of people (including myself) has this problem. Try to put it into standby mode and after half a second, the screen comes back again. I have searched the forum many times, seems that no one has come up with a complete solution. Looks like it is not a hardware issue as most people found that if you connect it with your PC in activesync mode, it will resume normal.
My experience :
1. The problem just come up all of a sudden. Haven't install any software or apply any tweaks a couple of days before it happened.
2. Try to look into the active service via memmaid, nothing special.
3. Restore from previous backups when the machine hasn't got any problem. Didn't help.
4. Soft reset a couple of times. No use.
5. Hard reset finally. Problem still there.
6. Start to doubt that it is a hardware problem.
7. Use the plugin method. Normally after activesync, it resumes normal.
8. Also try to plugin micro USB without real connection. It sometimes works.
(I started to think that it might not be a hardware problem. It is obvious that when plugging in, something "stops".)
9. However, either way, it will happen again all of a sudden.
10. Start to take a few irrational moves : install BSB tweaks (haven't install since it sometimes crashes with Cookie's home). Switch to power saving mode with BSB.
11. Stop windows live autosync.
12. Install XDA shutdown. Whenever connected to PC via activesync, will manually put HD2 to sleep mode using XDA shutdown. Then unplug.
It has been four days now, everything resumes normal. The problem just gone all of a sudden. I really don't know what is the reason behind and which steps being taken is a solution. Anyway, that's my experience. Will update again for any changes again.

but if the problem persists across several roms and radios, how can it be software related? The fact that plugging it into the computer or charger sometimes fixes it, leads me to believe that it is the female usb connector that is the problem.

You might be right. I really dun know if it is a hardware or software problem. But, it's kind of interesting that after u plugin it will work for quite some times. And, it will come back after the next soft reset.
OMG!! ... this means that I've just got the HD2 Ebola disease. )
Now being serious, after flashing 3 ROMs, hundred of soft resets, battery in out ... and one long night ...I just give up.
I will just try not to have the phone discharged. I hope there will be a solution sometimes soon.
Possible solution
I had the same problem.
I removed the cover, cleaned the two contacts on the back of the cover and for some unknown reason it returned to normal (although I was holding a pencil in a threatening manner to the red reset button).
What are these nodules for? I think more to do with reception, but it worked perfectly.

long press problem

just recently with the new froyo roms my 32b magic is having problems, everything works great except i cant long press to say drag a widget to the bin, it just selects the quick touch action. its not always like this but when it is its really anoying, it happens with multiple roms, so i think it may be an app causing the problem, anyone else have this problem
UPDATE:
figured it out, for some reason this problem is happening when i am plugged into the charger its all very strange
it looks like you have similar problem as I have
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795157
does it happen only when you have phone plugged in charger, or also to USB in computer?
and what happens when yuo slide keyboard?

[Q] [DISCUSS] Screen usability while charging

When my phone is plugged into the charger, the screen becomes almost unusable. Very hard to scroll around, different letters get selected while trying to type. If i hold my finger still on the home screen, it jumps around like its having a seizure and wont stay still. Unplug the charger though, and everything works perfectly.
Was just wondering if anybody else finds it difficult to use the screen while charging, or if anyone notices any difference in screen sensitivity while charging?
I don't have your problem.
Neither have I encountered this problem
Seems like you have a faulty device. I suggest to go to a SE center and ask their opinion and maybe ask for another one
I just found an old charger and tried that, and no problems at all, so the issue is something to do with the charger im guessing. Weird....
my phone is connect to the PC and I am not having any problems, did you try charging it through a PC?
i encountered the same issue when charging with a nokia n900 charger.
while with PC charging it seems ok.
Not had that problem with whatever charger I use. I have used the in car, desktop and PC connections, also used an HTC and ZTE charger with no issues.
Have not experienced this problem.

I had this problem and managed to fix it.
Mine had nothing to do with the charger though. Typing went crazy whenever i hit the space button or the p button. Pressing p would produce a 2-3 y's and pressing space would produce a , and 2 spaces.
I cant remember EXACTLY which fixed it but i can tell you what i did -
1) Installed a cache cleaner. Cachemate. (although i have recently switched to Android Assistant). Performed a power cache cleanse with Cache Mate.
2) Went to Titanium Backup and selected "Default Input" and "wiped Data".
However, here is the thing i THINK fixed the problem -
1) Went to market place and installed gingerbread keyboard and selected it as my default input.
Switching which keyboard you use i believe resets the touchpoint settings. I prefer Gingerbread Keyboard btw, use it as my default now.
Be careful when you wipe cache or data using titanium backup. I accept no responsibility for any misuse that causes your phone to function incorrectly
A lot of Android phones do this with incompatible chargers.
Happens to me when I keep my phone on a flat surface it goes all mumbo jumbo and I can't even unlock the screen properly

[Q] Touchscreen acting weird with USB connected ??!!

Hi, everyone. i found this problem in other devices' forums here, but wrote this to see what caused it on our x8. recently, i noticed some crazy finger tracking; no tap and hold recognition like in scrolling; it read like a zillion single taps causing random open and selection,..... etc.
finally and after flashing several roms and using SEUS, the problem still was there. luckily, i found it was due to USB cable connected to my PC. Strange really as it never happened sice i first got my phone 2 months ago.
nothing new except the average; which is flashing a rom or two daily and applying the modules overclocking etc
so what could be the new thing that happened that caused this problem ?? i can say that those past days i was continuously connecting my phone to PC .
any ideas ??
Wrong Section
I have the same issue, and the conclusion I came up with is that my pc is not properly grounded and there is some static that is making the keys press twice and make the screen really sensitive. My 2 cents.

that's pretty reasonable cause. thanks for notifying me; now i know why i didn't have this problem with my laptop.
i had the same problem if i connect a unorigional adapter with less power
maybe that's because u use wrong usb cable.

Ghost Touches

My tablet suddenly started to suffer from "ghost touches". I already factory reset it and removed it's (great) screen protector, but to no avail.
Any thoughts besides service it?
Thank you!

Updated 1: problem solved rebooting to safe mode.
Update 2: see my post (#8) dated 10/10/18.
Does the problem occur all the time or only with the charger plugged in?
The reason I ask is that my Android YB has a similar problem with the Halo keyboard. Pressing and holding the shift or backspace key generates random characters. It happens only when plugged in and (interestingly) only in one room of the house. I've yet to find a reason, so I just unplug the power and run on battery while typing.
Another thought: my old Nexus 7 sometimes does the same thing (random touches) or becomes non-responsive. Turning it off and then gently squeezing around the edges and the middle of the screen fixes the problem for several months. I'm guessing that some internal connector is going bad (loose or corroded). It's one of those "can't hurt to try" things.

Never tried plugged.
But I found the solution: just like Windows (!?) I rebooted to safe mode and... ...it's fine now. Seems that it was some weird driver error that a factory reset alone could not fix.
Thank you very much for your help!!
I just got a "refurbished" one from Amazon. What a nightmare! The random ghost touches are so bad I can't use this damn tablet! Now I have to send it back, get a refund and buy another. Ughhhh.
You rebooted into safe mode and then what?

Tried another cable and charger?
I've found a workaround that made de Yoga usable again. In short:
1. Find where are the ghost touches using (developer options -> show taps). If you're lucky as I am they will be confined in just a few pixels is some border.
2. Root the device following this link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/yoga-book/how-to/root-yb1-x90l-how-to-t3534268
3. Use some "screen resizer" from Google Play in order to disable the faulty row or column. In my case I started disabling the first 20 pixels. Now I'm with 10 and the Yoga is still usable.
