[Q] CM crashes a lot - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have put CM on a uSD, and I have been workin on CM for about a month.
It's good, but it crashes ever since I created it, what's the solution? What is even the problem?4
EDIT: I forgot to say that once I restart it, it works well, after some time, it starts crashing again whenever I open any app.

Try fixing permissions for a start. What version of CM7 are you running?

CyanogenMod-7.1.0-encore.
I will google the permessions thing and see.

I had a an issue with frequent force-closes when I was using an off-brand SD card to run CM. I just went ahead and installed to emmc/internal and it's been perfect. If you don't want to do this, you might try picking up a Sandisk microSD card to use.

If your current uSD isn't a Sandisk, it's time to get one.

OK, I'm getting a sandisk uSD, thank you all.

HD2 freezes

First of all, thanks for the awesome threads on how to mod the HD2!
I have two hd2's and the first gingerbread 2.7 is up and running with no problems for the last week. The second hd2 I bought was in ever nicer condition and I installed the software in the same order. I have this rom on it:
NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.7_NAND_(Android-2.3.4)_update
and the 2.12 radio
Now the phone will randomly lock up with the sim card inserted, usually right after I get to the home screen. I have noticed the phone freezes right when it recognizes the Tmobile network. I have tested my sim on the other hd2 and have no problems. I reflashed Windows Mobile and have tried different radios along with a task 29 cleanup and reinstalled 2.7 and tried 2.6 for fun...
I'm stumped and think I might have bought a hardware problem. Any thoughts? I think I've exhausted similar threads for an answer.

Sounds like hardware issue to me, I have this problem on my HD2 but it seems to be any time I do anything that challenges the CPU at all, like browsing netflix films, I get an FOD and have to do a battery pull. I am sending in to HTC for repair.
Make sure your device is in warranty and then see about sending it in. Make sure you flash complete stock from SD before though to get your device back in warranty, if you have any questions on doing that ask here.
Also, just for grins, try a completely different ROM, not just an older version of the same ROM, and see if it does it.
I had similar issues with a slow 8 X sd card, replaced it with a faster card and the problem has gone.
Try a clean and reflash including task 29 and full format on the sd card

Why would the SD card have any effect on his WinMo ROM and NAND Android ROM freezing?
Thanks for the ideas guys.
This phone just keeps teasing me. The working phone is so awesome that I hate to give up...
So, I can go to clockwork recovery and do a factory reset, and then when I reboot, the gingerbread 2.7 rom is still there and working fine without the sim. Then...
Just tried the hyperdroid rom with and without sim. Without sim, it works great, with sim in sometimes I can get to the dialer, but when I dial a number it acts like it's going to make a call and then freezes. I have been able to send a text when the phone booted once so I know it can send info through the radio??? I might have to sell this phone to someone who knows what in the heck they are doing! It's like a hot girlfriend with a nasty personality.

Try erasing everything! That is to say flash task29, then MAGLDR, then CWM, then Android,
or just try Android from SD and see if it still does it.
Progress!!!
Ok, so the SD rom boot seems to have helped, and it seems I'm so close to a stable hd2 now...
Here is what I did:
1. I unzipped the sd version of the 2.7 (or 6?) tytung gingerbread rom to the sd card.
2. Performed the AD recovery to get the phone to boot to SD and picked the file from the sd card.
3. Got really confused when the hyperdroid rom still booted, but happy that I could have the sim card in the phone without an instant freeze.
So here is what I have on the phone now:
I've tried various radios
Android Version 2.3.3
Kernel Version 2.6.32.15_tytung (you know the rest)
Mod Version Hyperdroid
I was estatic I could load the sim card and I made an actual phone call.
Now the tmobile network seems to be cycling but the phone reads the sim card as my phone number. The 2.15 radio seems to recognize tmobile the best. The problem now is that I want to get rid of hyperdroid and just have the gingerbread.
The second big problem is that wifi is cannot be turned on, it's just reading "error", and I still get some good freezes.
I beginning to get the feeling that this is an issue above my head. I'm going to try to get rid of hyperdroid, see if that helps the wifi issue and if nothing works, on to the next phone...
Can anyone point me to the forum that explains how to get rid of the hyperdroid?
Used task 29 to reflash nand
Ok, so I used task 29 to get rid of the hyperdroid on the nand and it boots nicely onto the gingerbread 2.7 rom. Wifi and the cell network can coexist for awhile and then the phone freezes. I tried a new radio with no luck....
I guess that's it. I really needed a phone with access to data and not a android "touch". It will go on ebay, unless I can get some more posts on the forum. If someone wants to post it for me in the classifieds I'm looking for 160 shipped anywhere in the US, sent usps priority mail. It's in perfect cosmetic condition, except for a tiny scratch on the battery door plate. No wear on the buttons.

HD2 WIN7 phone crashing when use keyboard

Hi out of the blue my HD2 has started crashing (then rebooting automatically) when I use the popup keyboard , all other functions seem fine, however if I want to send a message or use IE , the phone locks briefly and then reboots as soon as I hit a letter on the popup keyboard and ideas?
Such a thing never happened to me.
And I used WP7 for almost half a year - first the DFT release, then a "Chevron" enabled one, finally a "NoDo" version. Everything always nice.
But, maybe like many other problems I read about, the source is an "incompatible" SD card.
Or, for that matter, a bad flash?
I had the same problem it was due to a incompatible SD card i reflashed with later rom and worked fine after that never had the problem again
Reflash the rom
Sent from my Schubert using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
try syncing to zune and copying another few hundred MB of music too it
i have a similar problem, over a period of time my SD card filled up and eventually it started restarting, dumped a bunch of music on and it worked fine
its a bit of a guess but i believe that the card i have has portions of dodgy sectors, they are not faulty and will work but for whatever reason the OS has issues with them
now this might just be me, but its worth give it a go, it works for me!
I've used win7 with 3 diffrent sd card i didn't that problem
Thx for the replys guys , It seems to have fixed it self , I took the battery out and left it out for a while and then rebooted and it was fixed , not had it since

[Q] Camera won't save first picture [SOLVED]

Here is my problem,
it all started when I switched form a 2 GB sd card to a 16 GB SDHC card.
At first i didn't even notice, but then i realized that when i open the camera and snap a photo, it plays the little animation minimizing the picture to the left bottom corner indicating that the picture is saved. Then i take another one...
Later i go to the gallery, and the first picture i took isn't there, but the second, third, fourth ....are there.
This happens when i don't use the camera for a few hours, and then turn it on. It just won't save the first picture. Its like it doesn't mount the sdcard in time for the first picture. I have no idea what's going on, and i missed some awesome pictures. Please help.
I am using JBoogie3 Blurry Ginger based on (2.3.4)Defy+
Edit: the problem has been solved, you just have to put CM7 on your phone
Perhaps quick reformat the 16 GB SDHC card would do the trick..
Backup first.
That was the first thing i tried, and no luck. I also tried the infamous hp usb disk storage format tool.
I also tried to clean the camera cache... no luck.
Cleared dalvik cache... had big hopes on this... and yes, it works, but it worked for a day or two, then reverted back to its "won't take first picture" self.
Tried fixing permissions... works, but just like above, only for a day or two
I am out of ideas, and i'll probably move to another rom, maybe the problem will go away.

Sounds like a class 10 card, it will never work, buy a class 6 for a better chance or a class 4 to make 100% sure.
FUUUUUUU!!!!!! it is a class 10 card, i figured faster is better
now that that is out of the way, can someone please explain why it behaves the way it does?
Lol. I was about to order a class 10 16gb tomorrow. Thank youuuuuu lol.

Have a search about "mmcfix", the Defy has a problem with sd cards due to a malfunctioning kernel module. This is fixed in CM7, but may not be for your ROM. Ask your Dev if he has included it or not

Thanks for the info i'll keep that in mind, but i already switched to MS2Ginger 2.0
It's been a few days now, and it works perfectly, this rom is just amazing, especially the 720p stock camera recording, just love it.
Thanks for all the suggestions, hopefully this will be the end of this problem.
Final answer - CM7
Unfortunately, MS2Ginger 2.0 filed to save images about a week from the day of installation. And I had such high hopes.
After that I tried almost every MMCfix, patch, modules, trick and hack to try to achieve a normal working sd card, but they all ended in failure.
Since CM7 already has the mmcfix pre-installed, it was my last hope.
And it works. Been using it about a month now, and its still snapping and saving pictures like a boss.
So if you own a sd class 10 card, and have a defy, cm7 is your savior.

I tried using the zip files (I think I found 3 different versions), then applied them using custom recovery.
I also tried to put the required modules in manually, just copying the files in there right place, and I remember that you had to edit a file, so the modules can load at start up.

The problem has been solved, so there is no need for suggestions any more.
But if you are curious, data reset of any kind, just postponed the problem for another few days, and after that you are back to square one.

[Q] Market on CM7.1

I've been having this problem for the last few weeks now on my Nook Color. I'm running rooted, with CM7.1 installed to the internal memory. Things have been good for a long time now, but in the last few weeks, when I download and install something from the Market app, it will get to "Installing", and the device will just freeze. It will take a cold restart to bring it out of it.
In order to use the Market app at all after that, I have to uninstall any Market updates, but then after the next time after using the Market app, the whole thing starts again.
I'm at a loss for what to do. Any ideas? Is anyone else having this issue?

Which version of CM7.1 are you using?
I do not have much experience on the emmc side, but I discovered that the 1.4.1 stock update helped performance on the SD install of CM 7.1 Stable. I believe something was fixed with the wifi on the firmware there, so it carries over when CM7.1 on the SD is accessing the hardware.
I kept getting all kinds of freezes when wifi was active, and never for the same thing twice. Sometimes it was the Market, other times it was Facebook / Twitter / Pulse updating feeds. As painful as it is, I would try to go stock, and update through 1.4.1, then go back to CM7.1. Be sure to back things up first using Titanium Backup, or similar methods.
I know my issues were on the SD side, but I hope this helps, or at least provides some insight!
Are you using the, correct version of gapps? I would try looking in ROM Manager for another version.

Lockscreen Lag

Has anyone else noticed that when you power the screen off but then want to power it up right away afterwards there is about 2-3 seconds where the screen just stays black? Im wondering if its the animation that is causing this. Anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi,

Since the August update I have observed that the Gallery hangs very often and the pics dont show up immediately. Also the phone in general lags while unlocking. Earlier i used to think its because of the update. But whenever i remove the sd card it works fine. I am using a 64 GB Sandisk 80 mbps class 10 card. Could it be because of the card? Dont wanna spend another 1600 Rs for a card only to find that the problem isnt solved .
Should i try using Samsung card?

Here is a video showing the lag
And it is present regardless of SD Card/LTE and even after cleaning cache or wiping data

That is definitely too much lag.
Are you running stock rom? Running xposed with a lot of modules? I read about the latest aod update gave some users lag. But I don't know the extend of it.

I forgot to precise it is SM-G935FD. I suspected OTA updates at first and I tried factory resetting the Stock ROM through stock recovey multiple times but the lag reappears either immediately or after a few days (without installing new apps). I then decided to root it and flash superman ROM latest version (with SupeSU, Xposed and magisk and with SuperKernel), it got fixed and then for whatever reason it reappeared again. Now I've tried clean installing the same ROM and following the same steps without any luck.
Hello there,
So I've got some updates on this lag that may help others :
-First, it doesn't matter if you're on stock or on custom ROM.
-It has nothing to do with SD cards or LTE network.
-A simple reboot or powering off/on makes the lag disappear momentarily.
-A clean falsh (with smart switch) can help but doesn't make the problem go away indefinitely, I'm not sure why. It still happens after that but a lot less frequently.
-I've narrowed down the bug to Google play Services, anything that it has permissions to access can cause the bug to reappear, installing apps, downloading contents through apps, making a phone call and sometimes taking a picture/deleting it... Etc.
-disabling Auto-updates in Play Store, proved rather helpful.
-Finally, I think that Samsung will fix this lag, intentionally or not, with the Nougat update since it is apparently a compatiblity issue with the latest Google play services updates.
In my experience, doing a clean flash, disabling Auto-updates both in Settings and Play Store makes the lag less frequent. Powering off/on solves it when it does occur occasionally.
Same error
I am also facing the same problem after upgrading to Android N, but I have not find any solution yet.
