HD2 freezes - HD2 General

First of all, thanks for the awesome threads on how to mod the HD2!
I have two hd2's and the first gingerbread 2.7 is up and running with no problems for the last week. The second hd2 I bought was in ever nicer condition and I installed the software in the same order. I have this rom on it:
NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.7_NAND_(Android-2.3.4)_update
and the 2.12 radio
Now the phone will randomly lock up with the sim card inserted, usually right after I get to the home screen. I have noticed the phone freezes right when it recognizes the Tmobile network. I have tested my sim on the other hd2 and have no problems. I reflashed Windows Mobile and have tried different radios along with a task 29 cleanup and reinstalled 2.7 and tried 2.6 for fun...
I'm stumped and think I might have bought a hardware problem. Any thoughts? I think I've exhausted similar threads for an answer.

Sounds like hardware issue to me, I have this problem on my HD2 but it seems to be any time I do anything that challenges the CPU at all, like browsing netflix films, I get an FOD and have to do a battery pull. I am sending in to HTC for repair.
Make sure your device is in warranty and then see about sending it in. Make sure you flash complete stock from SD before though to get your device back in warranty, if you have any questions on doing that ask here.
Also, just for grins, try a completely different ROM, not just an older version of the same ROM, and see if it does it.

I had similar issues with a slow 8 X sd card, replaced it with a faster card and the problem has gone.
Try a clean and reflash including task 29 and full format on the sd card

Why would the SD card have any effect on his WinMo ROM and NAND Android ROM freezing?

Thanks for the ideas guys.
This phone just keeps teasing me. The working phone is so awesome that I hate to give up...
So, I can go to clockwork recovery and do a factory reset, and then when I reboot, the gingerbread 2.7 rom is still there and working fine without the sim. Then...
Just tried the hyperdroid rom with and without sim. Without sim, it works great, with sim in sometimes I can get to the dialer, but when I dial a number it acts like it's going to make a call and then freezes. I have been able to send a text when the phone booted once so I know it can send info through the radio??? I might have to sell this phone to someone who knows what in the heck they are doing! It's like a hot girlfriend with a nasty personality.

Try erasing everything! That is to say flash task29, then MAGLDR, then CWM, then Android,
or just try Android from SD and see if it still does it.

Progress!!!
Ok, so the SD rom boot seems to have helped, and it seems I'm so close to a stable hd2 now...
Here is what I did:
1. I unzipped the sd version of the 2.7 (or 6?) tytung gingerbread rom to the sd card.
2. Performed the AD recovery to get the phone to boot to SD and picked the file from the sd card.
3. Got really confused when the hyperdroid rom still booted, but happy that I could have the sim card in the phone without an instant freeze.
So here is what I have on the phone now:
I've tried various radios
Android Version 2.3.3
Kernel Version 2.6.32.15_tytung (you know the rest)
Mod Version Hyperdroid
I was estatic I could load the sim card and I made an actual phone call.
Now the tmobile network seems to be cycling but the phone reads the sim card as my phone number. The 2.15 radio seems to recognize tmobile the best. The problem now is that I want to get rid of hyperdroid and just have the gingerbread.
The second big problem is that wifi is cannot be turned on, it's just reading "error", and I still get some good freezes.
I beginning to get the feeling that this is an issue above my head. I'm going to try to get rid of hyperdroid, see if that helps the wifi issue and if nothing works, on to the next phone...
Can anyone point me to the forum that explains how to get rid of the hyperdroid?

Used task 29 to reflash nand
Ok, so I used task 29 to get rid of the hyperdroid on the nand and it boots nicely onto the gingerbread 2.7 rom. Wifi and the cell network can coexist for awhile and then the phone freezes. I tried a new radio with no luck....
I guess that's it. I really needed a phone with access to data and not a android "touch". It will go on ebay, unless I can get some more posts on the forum. If someone wants to post it for me in the classifieds I'm looking for 160 shipped anywhere in the US, sent usps priority mail. It's in perfect cosmetic condition, except for a tiny scratch on the battery door plate. No wear on the buttons.

HD2 Freezing Problem among others!

1- Hello guys, I have an T-Mobile USA HD2. I love it but it freezes like crazy, 2-3 times a day if not more. I ran Task 29 to delete every possible trail of previous roms followed by a hard reset but nothing. It will still freeze.
2- I also have a lot of signal problems. Its constantly changing from 3G to Edge on the same location. I know that is not normal so I spoke to T-Mobile and they changed the SIM card but it will still change the signal back and forth. I re-flashed couple of radios but nothing, I only accomplished to drain more battery.
3- BSB Tweaks is an awesome app but there are issues with the Rotation Option. If I enable Rotation to the "Start" -> "home screen" the photo album and music will be affected because the already come with landscape support. I tried to disable the landscape support for these using a registry editor but did not find a way.
Is there any solutions for these problems? Any help will be very much appreciated, not only from be but as well from others with the same or similar problems. Thanks in advance to all of you.
Note: I noticed the recently released TMUSA HD2s come with a yellow reset button. I bought my back on March when they sold out Nation wide with in the firs 4 hours and it comes with a RED reset button. This might explain a lot. If you know something please share. Thanks!
I would like to know if there is help for freezing issue.
I also did Task 29, flashed few different radios, few different roms incoluding stock, and it still happens. If my phone freezes I have to try for 20 minutes to restart it, as it hangs everywhere starting with bootloader, to manila.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
I had a similar issue as well and it turned out to be a cab file I had installed that was not compatible for my ROM. I had to go through and isolate which cab it was by using the date it was added and when I noticed the issues.
When your phones freeze....does it do it radomly or while trying to access or carry out anything specific. Your problem could be caused by any number of reasons but giving as much detail regarding your problem keeps you from getting so frustrated trying all sorts of fixes. Out of curiosity what ROM's are you both currently running?
I am currently using Elegancia ROM from August 23. Before I was using Energy ROM. I tried newest, stock Rom for T-Mobile HD2 but it didn't solve the issue.
I tried reinstalling HSPL, but it didn't help either.
The problem started after I put Ubuntu 0.2 on my sd card. I was playing with it for a little and it suddenly rebooted my HD2. I though, OK, no big deal, it's just in infant stage.
So I booted Windows again (energy rom with 2.12 radio) but it hanged while Sense was loading. I wasn't able to get it back to life after few reboots so I did a hard reset (vol up/down power on) It worked fine.
My problem mostly happens when I run android and when it reboots for some reason I can't get back to windows. It hangs, sometimes it hangs on bootloader before it even shows me radio and data version!! sometimes it goes past bootloader and hangs right after sense launches, and sometimes it is perfectly fine.
It also seems that when I just use WinMo it is fine, I can power down, and soft reset without major issues. But after running android I get that issues, especially when Android crushes.
I am thinking that android may be corrupting some WinMo files, but how is that possible? Android doesn't have access to NAND so technically it shouldn't prevent WinMo from booting on bootloader level.
Please let me know if you need me to explain more.
Thanks for your help
KML
PS. I don't have any custom cabs installed at this point. I have super fresh and clean installation of elegancia rom
Yeah...Android may be the culprit. I have shyed away from trying it because I have talked to quite a few people (not on XDA) that have tried it on the HD2 and they have the same issues. The Android OS really makes the HD2 unstable. I personally am going to hold off on the Android bandwagon until a little more time passes, after all WinMo works just fine for me. Try just running on WinMo and see what happens. Based on what you have said, it runs fine as long as you are not using Android
yeah, it's is good idea to stay away for some time. But Android development needs testers. If no one is willing to test than there will be no improvement.
What I can't understand is that even after I do hard reset I still get freezes.

Yeah I agree with you on Android development needing testers. I do rely on my phone a lot for work purposes and I can't always afford to have the phone freezing up constantly.
Are you hard re-setting with the Android OS still installed?
Technically it is still installed but it is only present on the SD Card, and not anywhere else so it shouldn't matter. Next time I get freeze I will try to remove SD Card before hard resetting.
I tried booting few times with SD Card taken out, but it didn't help.

I have the same issue...i'm using energy rom and i noticed that lately its freezing like hell...at least twice a day...!! NRGZ already notice the freezing issue and is trying to solve it...but it still crashes. I'm constantly changing the rom as he updates...and right now i'm running the August 25.
Sometimes it crashes while being turned off...and i need to take the battery off to restart.
I had the same issue, all i did loaded a diff rom and formatted my sim card problem solved
I did format my SD Card many times. Did not help. I used recommended FAT32.
Yesterday my phone froze when I was trying to add program shortcut to Sense... silly.
I rebooted phone, it booted fine, but hang as soon as I went to check my TXT messages. Rebooted again and it is working fine until now.
I currently have Elegancia ROM with 2.12.50 radio, have not been using android for couple of days, but it is still there on my SD Card.
It is getting a bit frustrating. I wonder what else I can try to make it stop freezing.
KML
My phone rebooted again yesterday.
I couldn't boot to windows for the next 20 minutes... I tried about 10 times before it worked. 2 or 3 times it booted windows and froze as soon as I clicked on one of sense tabs.
I haven't played with Android for past week and the freezing problem is still an issue. I even removed andorid form my SD Card.
When all this happened I was just using skyfire to browse internet.
I am hopeless at this point. I have no idea what else I could try to make it stop rebooting and freeezing.
Any ideas?? I would greatly appreciate any help.
PS. I recently found a thread about a tool that searches for corrupt files on Android devices after clean flash, is there something similar available for WinMo?
Here is the thread I am talking about:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/fixflash-rom-flash-verify-and-repair-tool/
screen doesn't respond to touch
I just started having this issue today. I have used darkstones most recent build from the 18th. it has worked perfectly till today. I use energy roms. i just installed a older rom today still have the same problem. this problem appears weither in droid or winmo. All the hard keys still function and the phone can receive calls. Thanks for any help you may be to lend.
my phone just froze again.
All I did was take it out of my pocket and unlock screen, and there it is: FREEZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Funny thing is that Android doesn't freeze for me... it crashes sometimes, but never freezes. It is only WinMo that freezes on me or doesn't boot. Android always boots.
I really wish the NAND was accessible so I could flash Android to NAND and forget about WinMo

you, me and 17,000+ HD2 owners are all wishing for that exact thing
Your issue with the freezing/rebooting is stumping me too. You've flashed different ROM's, including stock, done hard resets, checked the battery pins, reformatted the SD card and even tried running the phone without the SD card inserted...do I have all that right? The fact that it doesn't show the symptoms when running Android just makes it that much more mysterious. I'd say it all points to a hardware issue, but if it doesn't act that way when you're in Android, that (probably) shoots that theory out of the water. But, at the same time, running task 29 and reflashing different ROM's should also have eliminated any possible software-based causes, so....
the only thing that comes to my mind is micro SIM card. I did an upgrade on my ATT account to get iPhone (traded for HD2) and those fu...ers at ATT wouldn't let me keep my regular sized SIM card. I had to use my old SIM card and cut it's inside to place micro sim in it. I used a regular sied SIM to hold micro SIM in place.
I don't think however that this is a problem because I believe my phone froze few times before I did that SIM card swap besides, I have no issues with phone calls or reception both in Android or WinMo.
I am clueless at this point.
I just got another Android version and will try it to see how it works. If I have any problems I will try using my wive's SIM card to see if it helps with freezing and WinMo booting.
KML
EDIT: ANDROID just rebooted itself. 2 minutes after clean installation. geee, I am leaning towards Hardware being the issue.
What I did is:
1. open browser
2. go to google
3. search for speedtest
4. open speedtest.net
and Android rebooted itself and now my phone can't go past Tmobile bootloader logo (pink square with 'stick together' letters)
I will put different SIM inside now and try everything again

Good call, that's about the only other thing to try. However....have you tried running WM with sense disabled, to see if it still has the freezing/rebooting issues? That might at least narrow the problem down to something sense-related (which is easily the most common cause of any software-related issue on this phone)

I have NOT tried that but I will. The problem is that I often can't get past bootloader logo...
I modified my post above so please read it (I mentioned Android crashing)
thanks for all your suggestions
I just tried different SIM card. Phone booted fine to WinMo, and froze as soon as I clicked on Messaging tab in sense.
I will try to disable Sense for now.
I disabled Sense, rebooted WinMo launched Android repeated operation of trying to get to speedtest. Site launched, but phone rebooted after a while.
I am getting to conclusion that some software including flash causes my phone to reboot and then I can't get it to boot again..
Right now my phone is stuck again on bootloader. I already tried rebooting twice.
What I noticed is that every time my phone freezes it gets a little warmer in the lower left corner
What hardware is located in that area?

Just an answer to my question.

Phone freezes no matter what I try. Stumped
I have a question that seems not to be able to get answered where ever I post it. so please forgive me for posting here if this is not the correct place. I have been trying android from the beginning and I've tried everyones builds. from winmo to droid and different radios to find the right combination. The problem i keep running into is that my phone freezes up no matter what i do. I tried the letama .2 & .3. This problem even occurs in winmo even with the sd out. I may get a full day out of it with no problems then the problem returns. Right know i'm running MDJ Froyo revolution v.1.3 and winmo ozrom 5.10 wwe and radio 2.10.50.26. Also, wipe the sd clean every time i switch builds or upgrade. Haven't figured out how to do logs yet. still searching and reading to try and teach myself how to be more useful around the forums. Thanks and I appreciate all the hard work the DEVS put in. That's why i follow the rules except this time.

Obey the rules!
Naa, just kidding. But if your phone's freezing even in WinMo there's something really messed up. Did you try to make a task 29 and flash your ROM again? That might be helpful.. If not, turn your phone back to original standards (ROM, HSPL, Radio must be as given by the factory) and go to your retailor to use your guarantee if you still have.

I like you sense of humor. thank you for taking the time and commenting. there has been 30+ people that have viewed this and haven't even responded. But, some can ask like where is the download link and we all now where its at. always at the beginning of the thread, but they get all kind of replies. It just makes no sense to me when someone has a legit question they can't get much help. don't really understand that. Thought we were here to help each other.I don't believe that its an issue hardware issue. i believe its more software than anything. It comes and goes. My phone was going thru a period where it would reboot all by itself with no apparent reason. Then all of a sudden it stopped it and hasn't done that for 4 to 6 weeks.
really 97 views and no insight.
you tried the stock factory rom?? It might be hardware. You will be surprised a tiny drop of water inside your phone will slowly mess up your phone through a long period of time.
Are you on tmobile? I will try to look for a stock rom for you.
BTW, what do you mean by freezing? it hiccups or you have to do a battery pull.

if your suffering from the freezes in winmo and android then you I think that you need to forget about android for the time being and concentrate on getting a stable WM set up........
If you havent already done so then try a hard reset and see if that helps.......
try booting and running your phone with and without your sd card........
with and without your sim card........
if it still happens after the hard reset then you will need to reflash your WM rom, if you plan on using the phone mostly for android then I would opt for a basic rom like the energy reference series or one of duttys roms.....
there are many reasons why your phone might freeze and you need to spend time trying all situations to figure out what makes it freeze..........
if it still happens after the reset/reflash then we can only assume that it is a serious problem which may well require a warranty replacement.....

I have tried all that you have suggested. The curious thing to me is that it seems to come and go. It first started with the energy rom and it's also happened with dutty's as well. if you guys know how to pull logs that devs need is possible you could give me a run down on how and then maybe i can find out if it is hardware. My phone has never been near water. i'm very careful about that. I'm using ozrom now. This is the 3rd HD2 i've had. the last one lost all touch response. I just have a feeling its software, but i just have a gut feeling on that. Thanks everyone though for your input i greatly appreciate it and keep it coming.
BTW, what do you mean by freezing? it hiccups or you have to do a battery pull.
I have to pull the battery. Then i may have to leave it out for a minute or two maybe longer then replace battery before it will load windows. it will just show the splash screen.
was this happening even when you were running the stock rom?
Have you tried to reformat your SD Card? I have two, and when I used my original card received with my HD2, TMOUSA, it would freeze. Since I reformatted and use new and old card, no problems for over a month.

YES

yes. I have two the 16 that came with it and an 8. it happens with both. I reformat every time i switch builds.
I see that your using radio 2.10 and that caused my HD2 to freeze a lot. change your radio to 2.12 or 2.14
I use the same Android build as you but with the elegancia gtx wm rom with radio 2.14 and after upgrading the radio the freezing (SOD) stopped.
I started using the radio 2.15.50 and have had no problems whatsoever. Also unchecking auto rotate and auto britghtness helps. Sometimes redownloading and installing your Android helps if you got a bad download the first time.
Update
now runnning enery extreme from 11/5 and mdj desire hd with his newest kernel smartass and the only time it freezes in during a call. usually anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes into the call. Anyone have any insight two a possible solution?
This is what I would do:
1. Task 29
2. Flash a slim WM ROM such as the one mentioned in my signature.
3. Flash a NEW RADIO...at least 2.12 or even higher.
3a. Install NOTHING. NOTHING AT ALL. Just answer and make calls. Period.
4. Test that build for two days. If I have freezups, then my phone is bad and I would flash the stock rom and radio and return it. If it does not freezup goto 5.
5. Completely reformat my SD card to Fat32 32kb (or 64kb if you think it affects stuttering in music).
6. Since you and I are both in the US, I recommend getting an Android that has a built in TMO MMS fix such as the new MDJ build (with link to MMS fix) or the fine MooMoo build or even Bluetopia.
7. Test the basic features in Android for two days minimum and see if I get freezeups (after disabling auto-rotate and wi-fi on the Android build as well as completely shutting off all radios in WM).
8. Be glad I got this far, and slowly reinstall my apps, testing each thoroughly for freezing.

Thanks for taking the time to post this i appreciate it. I have tried it all. It appears to be getting better. I have been using MDJ's kernels since he posted them with his desire hd build. I have always felt that it was software related and not hardware. It appears to me to be caused maybe by the data drops from ppp. Not sure though till i teach myself how to do that. thanks again though.
Turned out to be a hardware issue. Got my new replacement and it works flawless. Can't believe the fun I was missing. At least it was a great learning experience.

[Q] Is anyone suffering from constant reboot after Nand flash?

Hi guys.
Thanks for the great work you guys achieved!
I have been enjoying my HD2 much more these days.
I have been testing and flashing the nand roms on this forum and it seems all the desire roms are giving me a random reboot on my phone.
Not constant but at least twice a day.
I've uninstalled(or not installed any) apps or killer tasks.
The most stable nand rom I used without crashing much was the nexus rom.
Has the bug from Desire creeped into the nand rom based on Desire?
I've searched the forum and it says it could be corrupt data on the SD card
but I've cleared and formatted the SD card many times.
Any ideas what is causing the crash?
One key point is that my phone is in a flat where the signal is not very good so it is constantly looking for signal from the provider.
Apart from that I have all the HARDSPL 2.08, MAGLDR 1.11 installed and never had a issue flashing the roms.
Any advice or solution would be grateful! Thanks~
are you using an overclocked kernal? cause sometimes it happens when you are using it at full speed and starts rebooting itself, imho...
+1 on the Kernel theory here... Not all silicone is created equal, some phones can take the OC, some can not. Try and throttle it down with SetCPU.
Are you freezing up before the reboots??

Not just overclocked kernels, undervolted kernels also don't work well for some people.
OP: which build are you currently using?
Install SetCPU and dial it down a little. If you don't know chances are you are not OC'ed, but that doesn't mean your CPU isn't taking some pain. Bring it down to say.... 800 and see if it holds on. Worth a shot.

Okie thanks for the quick reply
Currently I am running DFT stock Desire rom.
I think I flashed the phone with every nand rom on this forum....lol
The phone will just reboot when left alone.
So I don't know if it is crashing or freezing.
Sometimes it reboots while charging and sometimes just on standby doing nothing.
Doesn't seem to be getting warm but maybe I can't really feel it as it is bloody cold in my room.
I will try the SetCPU option and see what happens.
It may as well be something that simply occurs randomly. I flashed jdms nand 2 days ago & it worked great, yesterday tho I had to reflash wm coz I needed to reinstall copilot & deactivate it so I could get it on android. Once I went back to jdms nand, I started getting random reboots. So I went ahead & reflashed a 3rd time & its been stable once again.

It may also be just something it does early on, give it some time to settle...

i dont have this problem, i testing my rom on 3 days without sim-card. And it work well.
Thanks for the help guys!
Dialed down to 806 MHz.
I will report tomorrow if it reboots or not.
I get really jumpy when my phone suddenly vibrates on me...lol
i had it 2day for the first time, dont know why . im using the standerd rom from cotulla. i had it on the table while i was on my laptop n suddenly
it reboot itself
Yeah its scary coz you never expect it.
Imagine you are on your own watching the Ring or something and the phone jumps up!-_-;;
also keep in mind that your mainboard in the hd2 could be the problem. Had those reboot issues in winmo 6.5 (sometimes when doing nothing but mostly when watching youtube/cpu intensive service).
So i sent my phone to a repair center, they replaced the mainboard and since my phone doesn't reboot > sod whatever again and believe me there are an load of faulty mainboard around sadly
Second that, this girl had the same problem and she just got a warranty phone (new)
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I had no problem what so ever when using windows rom, and I used whole bunch of them.
Had freezing from time to time but never reboot issue.
I've searched and there is a whole forum and issue on the HTC Desire rebooting constantly....
The phone rebooted itself just now even with the 800mhz drop.
I am going reflash to stock wm rom and then back to the most stable Nexus Android rom and see what happens from there.
Those of you who haven't had this problem yet let me inform you that this problem doesn't start right away after you flash the rom, maybe couple of days or a week after it started.
Let's try and get it sorted out~!
same problems here, using mdj gingerbread 1.3
but its always freeze while running heavy cpu load apps like games, earth, youtube etc
tried donwclock to around 800 mhz but dont solved =/
Same problem here , randomly reboot.
I m using JDMS 1.62 , only happen on android , WM rom is working fine without reboot.
Well it seems I am not the only one having this problem here.
Anybody running Nexus rom and still having random reboot issues?
Or anyone running Android on SD card without and random reboots?
Could it be the the data on the phone is rewriting the wrong information and causing it some process to fail and to reboot?
It doesn't seem to be the hardware fault(then it would happen alot more often as hardware fail will be permanent and problem would show more frequently) although I have read on the Desire forum people have been sending their phone back for motherboard replacement with mixed results.
Currently reflashing again!

[Q] Start Screen gone (only time, batt and GSM viewable)

Hi
I flashed my HD2 with yuki's WP7 ROM (thanks to him and all of you who made this possible!). I updated my phone to the latest build (incl. ISV beta cleanup). This was some time ago, but yesterday, the phone once crashed, rebooted, and now i don't see the start screen anymore. After the phone is booted, i do see the time and the batterystatus, as well as the GSM-Indicator. But i don't see any tiles! I can receive phone calls, i can shut down the phone and start it again, but the start (home) screen is just empty.
Anyone has an idea, about how to fix this? I tried installing some tile-cabs from the yuki-thread, but no success.
Need help please.
Thanks.
Martin
I've suffered the exact same problem - same ROM too.
I got tired of it after the third re-flash in as many weeks that I decided to change the SD card (was using the 2Gb card that came with the HD2).
I put in an 8Gb card (also from a HD2) and haven't had a problem since - fast, stable and really happy with how it's behaving (although bluetooth still sucks the battery like it's going out of fashion, but that's another story...).
Hmm, too bad. Thanks for your reply.
I did a few reflashes the last few weeks also, sometimes i was totally stucked with locked sd-card, etc.
I'm using a seperatly bought 8GB sd card,on which WP7 ran fine for 3 Month...
If i don't find a solution to this issue, i will go back to WM6.5, and buy a new HTC in about 1 month...
bye

[Q] SD & System Partitioning question

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to install a new ROM on my girlfriend's HD2. I use a SGS4G, and everything is much simpler there. I have Cyanogenmod installed on her phone currently, but I did that a while ago and I completely forgot how I did everything for it.
I'm trying to do the following:
- Repartition a new 16GB memory card so it works with the phone
- Install a stable/smooth ROM for her to use (this one looks good -- is it?)
The problem with the SD card partitioning is that I'm not exactly sure how to boot into CWM (assuming that's where you partition the SD card at). I can get into the aMAGLDR v1.13 screen, but I have no idea how to progress into the CWM screen.
The second problem is that I'm not sure how to format the system to 200mb and the cache to 5mb.
If someone could at least point me in the right direction. I wouldn't mind trial-and-error with my phone, but I'd really like to avoid bricking hers. Thanks!
get the 'nand tookit'
start phone into magldr, and choose 'usb flasher'
connect usb, run the toolkit, magldr repartition, select 200, and hit repartition. This will partition teh nand AND install Cwm
then, restart, in magldr choose 'ad recovery', this starts cwm, , in cwm - advanced - partition sd car (or words to that effect, i'm not restarting my phone to check) - it WILL wipe your card, so back up anything you wanna save.
So much for the SGS4G being easier lol. Thanks for the information!

Lol, no native Android phone is as easy to flash as the HD2 is HSPL, MAGLDR, CWM, Partition SD, ROM with no chance whatsoever of bricking it providing you have an EU HD2
Yeah, now that I see how the HD2 is done, I wish the SGS4G did the same.
I came back here for another question, however. My girlfriend said that her phone randomly becomes unresponsive. When she hits a button, the backlight for the buttons comes on, but the screen doesn't turn on. She's forced to pull the battery to reboot and have it working again. It happened once yesterday, and just now as well.
The rom I flashed to her phone is this one. I tried searching that thread, but was unable to find anything. Is that a hardware issue, or software? If it's a software thing, what's a different rom I can flash that won't have the same issue?
Thanks guys.
I offer you my understanding of the issue and what I've read about it. It's not definitive, but hopefully it helps.
The issue is often referred to as the black SOD (screen of death), so you can search this to try to find more. It appears to affect some HD2 roms, as well as various other android devices. As for the cause (hardware or software) I've seen people claim it was certain apps, roms, kernels, even the SD card (some said changing to a 2 or 4 GB card stopped the problem).
I currently have an issue with this, but mine started after I had a cracked screen replaced. When my screen goes black during a call it will occasionally exhibit the same symptoms you described, and I believe my issue is due to the screen install and the proximity sensor. To bring the screen back I hold the screen towards a bright light (or flick a lighter near the proximity sensor) and it's worked every time for me. Not a fix, but if it works for you it beats pulling the battery.
Lastly, my personal advice would be to consider a Gingerbread rom for her phone instead of ICS if there are any other problems. The ICS roms are still undergoing heavy development , where GB roms are usually highly tested and polished.

Hmm, as stated above it could be the SOD, but that's extremely unlikely. This problem never existed on NAND builds and was solved a long time ago on SD builds. I would suggest trying a Gingerbread build (probably CM7 or MIUI, Sense is RAM consuming) and using that instead. No matter what the dev says ICS is NOT stable or fast on the HD2, it's all just advertising. You will not beat the speed of MIUI and CM7 and these are the most stable as well. Assuming your girlfriend isn't a power user MIUI is better as it has a better UI with more eye candy, although you probably will want to replace the stock launcher with GO Launcher because it's simply better than the stock one.
Would you mind linking me to a stable gingerbread CM rom? The one I flashed for her before the ICS one she has now also had the problem of the screen turning off and staying off. I don't mean to seem lazy, but I don't think she'd let me have her phone for long enough to test out all the roms. Thanks again, guys. I appreciate it.
Typhoon, look for it in the nand section.
ALL the ICS roms are still works in progress, no matter how much the author types 'for daily use', they aren't daily useable for everyone.
Gotcha. Thank you!
This ROM is smooth as heaven, have a try!
Hi m8! try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769026
it has everything and bat performance is great!!
Cheers!!
