I've been having this problem for the last few weeks now on my Nook Color. I'm running rooted, with CM7.1 installed to the internal memory. Things have been good for a long time now, but in the last few weeks, when I download and install something from the Market app, it will get to "Installing", and the device will just freeze. It will take a cold restart to bring it out of it.
In order to use the Market app at all after that, I have to uninstall any Market updates, but then after the next time after using the Market app, the whole thing starts again.
I'm at a loss for what to do. Any ideas? Is anyone else having this issue?

Which version of CM7.1 are you using?
I do not have much experience on the emmc side, but I discovered that the 1.4.1 stock update helped performance on the SD install of CM 7.1 Stable. I believe something was fixed with the wifi on the firmware there, so it carries over when CM7.1 on the SD is accessing the hardware.
I kept getting all kinds of freezes when wifi was active, and never for the same thing twice. Sometimes it was the Market, other times it was Facebook / Twitter / Pulse updating feeds. As painful as it is, I would try to go stock, and update through 1.4.1, then go back to CM7.1. Be sure to back things up first using Titanium Backup, or similar methods.
I know my issues were on the SD side, but I hope this helps, or at least provides some insight!
Are you using the, correct version of gapps? I would try looking in ROM Manager for another version.

Ok so last night I go to bed like normal, did nothing different with my phone. And when I woke up a couple of protected apps that werent showing up in the market had downloaded and installed by themselves. I KID YOU NOT! I thought it was weird that I had 2 app install things in my notification bar and turns out it was 2 apps that I havent been able to download for weeks. I am running MoDaCos newest rom and kernel and have been since he came out with it but since then I have done no tinkering with my phone. Just thought I would share this with the community and see if it happend to anyone else.
This happens to me too. It happens when you change roms or go back to one you were using before and had apps that were installed when using that rom and not the one you were just on.
Thing is the apps hadnt shown up since I tried a 2.1 way back and hadnt shown up in ANY of my roms since. Be it Fresh or MoDaCo. Also I have not flashed the 1.6 rom.
Happened to me when I flashed MCR 2.2 after AOSP 1.6. Who ya gonna call? MYTH-BUSTERS! Oh, wait, that's not right....
This happened to me too. It kept downloading Astro File Manager for some reason.
This is a very peculiar thing.... It only happens if I switch from a rom with the new market back to the 1.5 market.

what apps were they?
It was Brightkite and Barcode Scanner
I am wondering if this is not a product of what everone else has been thinking the problems with the market has been when switching from 2.1, 1.6 and so on. that it is something on googles end and it just takes time to fix itself
I didn't test the device before I rooted it. Now even since I rooted the phone, it reboot itself occasionally when using eugene's legend2slide and SlideM rom. Anyone else have similar problem? I also want to mention that I installed DroidFontsfallback.ttf to the /system/fonts/ after I rooted the phone or using those custom roms. Could the font be the cause of the problem?
.
noticed the same problem i dont know what it is
I have noticed this as well. I went from stock -> ENG -> Legend2Slide -> ENG -> SlideMERoot2. I forget when I think I first started noticing the reboots the second time I had the engineering ROM on - but - I didn't keep the engineering ROM on the first time for more than a few minutes, and I only kept Legend2Slide on for about an hour, so I may just have not had it running long enough to reboot itself those times.
Mine is also rebooting randomly.
Last time it was when i changed it to the camera it lagged for a second and then just restarted.
Move posts to Android Dev thread
Don't remember seeing a "Bug" thread, so maybe start a new Bug thread for things that happen after root. Just a suggestion. Thanks.
Same deal here. Its been doing it for a while I just haven't posted anything about it. I'm rooted but on the stock rom and get the reboots every once in a while. Yesterday it did it twice but not today. If I remember correctly I was listening to music and when I stopped the song and hit home that's when it rebooted. Maybe something to do with low memory I'm not sure though as I didn't see the available memory before it rebooted.

Have you guys thought about going back to stock and checking on this to see if it is the phone? If it is return it to t-mobile and get a new one. I have flashed all the available roms and this has not happened to me at all.
Sup fellas
I doubt it is the phone itself. I have had mine running on the standard OS since I got it. I don't want to root unless the froyo update we receive is crap. I'm bearing the pain of not being able to save apps to SD until froyo comes out as an update for the phone. If no luck, then root.
As for reboots, none here. I have had the memory maxed out with widgets on 7 home screens with GDE running, phone running wireless GPS and bluetooth all at the same time and it did not crash nor reboot.
I think there must be some conflict that is in the adk install somewhere. It seems that this is a standard problem after rooting the 2.1 Slide MT3G.
I bought my wife a new Epic 4G and she has been having problems downloading from the Marketplace. It seems to be a 3G,4G problem. Even Wifi doesn't start right away, yet does seem faster starting than 3g/4g. It does finally work after about 10 minutes. I know it is a phone problem, not a 3G/4g or Wifi problem, because I have an EVO, and at the same time downloading from the market with the EPIC, the EVO has no problems at all. I do notice once it has downloaded the first item, it seems fine for the rest of the day. The 3g was active before my wife went to the Market to download stuff. She had already received her email, so the connection was there.
Is anyone else having problems downloading from the Marketplace on 3G/4G or even wifi? If so, how do I fix the problem. I do have the latest update installed and it still didn't fix the problem.
The Epic seems to have some issue with logging into Gtalk randomly. I have experienced downloads that wouldn't start myself. Simply opening gtalk will log you in (most of the time) and the download will start almost instantly.

Missing Apps
Same issue here. Many Paid and free apps are missing. Bad deal since I need the phone for work and now I can't get my TouchDown Exchange Client working because it lost the key I paid for on the Market

For me it is not the issue where the download fails to start (though I have seen that too). This issue is that the apps are "not found" on the market place.
NOTE: I can see the apps from my EVO just fine, just not on the EPIC.
Evo is on froyo isn't it? Mabye they are protected apps and won't been seen unless you are running a phone with Froyo. Unless google hasnt registered I18 as a approved build yet.

Interesting... I notice that if I install(ed) a ROM (in this case Epic_Experience_v1.1.3) the apps are missing.
If I wipe the phone and restore a nandroid from a few days ago the apps show up.
Not sure what that means, but at least I can get back to using my email. Still learning all this ROM, Root, Kernel stuff.

I concur with these findings. I'm running Epic Experience 1.1.3 and if I search Market I can _not_ see such popular FREE apps such as Fandango, Where and Google Places Directory.
No idea why..
Chris R.
There have been several threads about this issue. Google has to take action in the Market to recognize the DI18 firmware as legitimate. (Perhaps Sprint has to take action to goose Google into taking action.)
This same problem occurred for several days after the last update.
See this post earlier at xda.
yeah this is pissing me off considering it all worked just a day ago...
I had my Epic rooted ever since I got it....the last few days it got sluggish and got bricked. I got it back to stock tonight and I can't upload apps either. I'm on the version ending in "7" when I went back to stock...if anyone can offer tips that is reading this would be greatly appreciated!!!
im getting annoyed by this GTalk sign in issue... not only I use gtalk alot but also market won't work without it.
I noticed I get signed off and loose connection almost every time I make/receive a call. Or sometimes just randomly.
Hey have you tried this?? I just did this below....
****UPDATE 4 hours later*******
so after screwing with everything I could possibly (clearing cache, resetting phone, rebooting countless times, etc) I logged out then back in to TALK using my gmail account and VOILA! everything downloaded.

Are you overclocked?
Whatever this is, it's definitely a hardware issue, not SW

whatever it is it's only effecting 5 apps, TB , a task killer. rarely.
3 games quite often.
i dont get it. strange
Thinking about flashing ICS or tiamatxoom on this sucker.
while back i got a permissions changing app, because i got alittle tired of so many apps self starting , the app mentioned that certain permission changes could possibly damage my os. Is this true?
also noticed that the ota nagging has stopped
Flash ICS, definitely. But undoing the permissions changes might be the answer. If it was in permissions denied, I know sometimes that can cause problems. Using autostarts has never caused this issue for me.
Yes!
IML77 cured all, and im loving ICS
Hi!
I'm suffering from reboots on my Note (also on my S2...). I call them "black" reboots because the screen becomes black, there's no start-up animation , I only hear the sound, and the home screen don't comes up, or it do it after a long delay. So, the screen is mostly black. Until 2-3 minutes pass, and reboot again.
-Sometimes occurs simply starting up the phone in the morning. I'm advised of a slow launcher load (Go Launcher, but it can occurs on TW).
If I go to System Monitor (System Panel app), I see the 2 cores working hard, toghether or alternating. The "System" app goes mad. The battery drain becomes quick, and the phone back around the camera begins to warming...
After 2-3 minutes with this behaviour, the "black" reboot comes up. Often, after rebooting, the message "Unable to run System process"- Force Close-Wait (or so) appears in the black...etc
If I force shut-off, then I wait and then shut-on again, all things seem normal, until...reboot
-Factory reset (through Recovery, of course) seems arrange all things, until I load again the apps. I've unistalled all "tweaking" apps for overclocking, Ram managing, etc. I only have Root explorer and Speed Boost as Root operating things...
- My Rom is an odex Pre-rooted XXLC1, Modem XXLB2, but the multiCSC is not from it.
How the phone can become so unstable with only the half memory app capacity occuped? (800 Mb or so of 2GB)?
And how can it often occurs on updating apps from damned Google Play Store?
Is worth to flash another Rom (not ICS...), or re-flash same with its CSC included?
Sorry if I've been too long. In my searchs I only see things about bricks or another type of reboots.
Thanks for read me!
i get these once every two weeks or so.
I also get these type of reboots, I get them on RocketROM and on previous roms I've had installed the only way I've found to get out of them is to boot into recovery and wipe the caches. Before I was rooted I removed some of the apps I'd moved to the SD Card and that sometimes stopped the boot loop. I now only update apps one by one someone suggested it was to do with the amount of apps moved to the sd card and the multiple updating of them. I'm still not sure of the cause I know its the only flaw on my Note that I'm fed up with.
Im running stock ics rom straight from samsung only with root and getting the same behaviour as yourself. About 2 to 3 times a week...

Ive posted a poll as i also experience this issue. Can you vote on the poll here please with how many reboots you are getting etc - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706343

Guys, i don't know if I'm going to cry of pain or to laugh of huge joy, after seeing this is almost ..."normal"
We have a beautiful 500€ plastic and metal block which is unable to perform the half of things it's supposed to do! And we don't know exactly why...
Sure I do wipes, but most of times this fixes nothing, and the reboot returns.
If I re-install with Titanium, I am very careful unsellecting into the batch which things can cause problems, installing only a few apps.
After some days, I go on installing manually some others.
The Play updates are critical, as I see... Why? How it's possible that this "beasts" with so much RAM and so much App Memory (2 GB on S2 and Note!) fail down handling its management, with their super 2 core CPU's?
It's too serious. How we can live with a 500€ phone rebooting bad 2 times a week?
Can you imagine that on your computer, forcing you to re-install OS and apps once or twice a week? It's crazy. Is Android going crazy?
Maybe Samsung don't like Root users? Have HTC same problem?
There's someone with a non rooted phone with same problem?
Are you guys running stock? Had custom rom installed or still have?

I have this Rom, based on strict stock, but rooted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24690725&postcount=154
Mine is the XXLC1
No tweaks, no overclocking, no CWM...
I had the same problem when my GN was on rooted LC1. I disappeared after I made a factory reset and let my apps reinstall by Play Store.
Yes me too got out of this strange reboot by a factory reset today morning.
Something is messed up .....
Very difficult to find that something ...
better idea would be a factory reset .....
I think the problem is with the Stock Samsung Rom, it doesnt happen in CM9 Roms. I had this problems wen on ROcket rom, but vanished when on Asylum Rom.
go wild...

Yesss, very difficult. I'm not on advanced technical stuff, but my intuition says that is something deep inside the Rom, something that is related to CPU-Memory management.
By the way, do you have/had many apps (250+)? Have you made recently massive update and/or installing apps, or massive "App to SD" moves?

You are pushing me a little step more to the wild side of Android.... Here I'll go!
It seems to me that the Note is a strangely different phone of, say, S2. Some apparently "simple" apps that I carry on from 2 years ago don't run right.
And the little lags that sometimes appear on touching icons, never, never appear on the fast S2.
Lol be carefully factory on ICS resetting...
Try and official rom, haven't seen it myself
