[Q] data network - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey All,
A noob here.....
I'm having a problem with connection to the internet on my defy.
The only way I can connect is using wifi (which is no good for when I am out and about)....
I have downloaded an application from Android Market called "Mobile data switch", when I click on it is says "data enabling" but then turns the data enable off.....
I then tried a reset via settings>privacy etc, but this has not helped...!!
I have tried to do a factory data reset, but according to the Motorola website it says "wait for the "triangle ! / android" screen and then release the volume down button and then tap on the lower right hand corner of touch screen" but nothing happens....
Is there anyway I can restore the data connection without having to do a factory reset?
if not, is there another way of doing a factory reset....
Btw, loving the "noob video" on the sign up page.....
Thanks in advance

The same problem yesterday. U must manualy tape anp data. So go to settings>wirrales and networks>mobile network settings>Acces point names>new apn and go to your mobile network provider site and find apn settings. In my xperia X10 it was done automaticly on motorola i just find to do it manualy.

Hey metiie,
I got the settings sent from my network provider, and now its working

Kayzee,
This is caused by your Internet settings.
1. Go to Programs/settings/all settings ( choose it from the menu on the bottom right corner ).
2. Tap Connections, within that tap once more Connections
3. Tap Advanced, than Select Networks
4. Under "Programs that automatically connect..", select My work Network instead of the mobile connection and tap OK.
From now on, it will never start data connection when trying to go to Internet, but you can always start it manually from the Comm manager.
I hope it helps, good luck !
If you search the forum, you'll find quite a few of solutions. But what works for me are:
1) BsB Tweaks - use it to disable the "data connection" (3G)
2) WiFi Toggle - use it to toggle the WiFi on & off
In "data services" turn everything to manual update, e.g tweeter, stocks, ...
Keeping the wifi on constantly doesn't actually consume much battery life and it's only the 3G really sucks the battery juice.

This doesn't work. Every time I check the Internet connection by loading a random webpage via the sense UI it still has an Internet connection, even if I doublechecked before to see if the Internet connection setting were off. This is frustrating

HTC HD2 Data Connection Problems?

Hey all, just registered on this forum (heard a lot about it )
My main problem with this phone is, my data connections are seriously messed. I mean, the phone is brilliant no doubt about it but this darn internet problems are getting me more and more frustrated. Basically, my internet was working fine without Wi-Fi, Twitter updated would come smooth, YouTube videos took a couple of seconds to buffer, Opera was fast etc. etc.
Now here's the problem, I am not sure if this is connected to the Wi-Fi or not, but the FIRST ever time I used my Wi-Fi, after I came off the problems started. Now YouTube videos take minutes to buffer (a 10 second vid took 2 mins yesterday), Twitter takes forever to update and Opera, well let's just say Google takes so long to load I have to close the browser. Are there any fixes and has anyone else been experiencing this problem? At one point it got so bad I could not take ANY phone calls or texts. Vodafone has assured me it is not a fault on their behalf as their signal should be super strong in my area so what is the problem? I hope someone can help me as it is really frustrating!
Thanks
Anyone have any ideas as to what is the problem?
It seems not many are viewing this
Sorry if I have frustrated any of you or this is quite a popular topic, I just haven't found any topics of the sort yet. If anyone could care to guide me to such a topic would be appreciated...thanks.
My suggestion: simplify and diagnose. Do a hard reset, set up your 3G connection (don't set up Wifi just yet), and make sure that works OK. If not, then it's probably your provider's fault. If 3G's OK, try adding Wifi.
Bro, I assure you I've done around 5 hard reset (even forgot to back up one time )
Resets don't seem to work, I've checked around on a few of the major networks forums and a few others are having this problem. Could it possibly be that it is the phone? Or have other HTC HD2 users never experienced this?

Im on Vodafone UK and havent seen this happening.
Have you checked your access point settings?
No I haven't, how would I check this?
I went on connections and it said programs using the internet should connect using "My ISP", is that the case for you Audio Oblivion?
No mine is different but that is just the title of your internet connection profile so it doesnt actually matter.
What does matter is the connection setup itself.
Go to:
Start->Settings->Menu->All Settings->Connections->Connections
Here you should see the menu page for your ISP settings.
Click on "Manage Existing Connections"
On this screen highlight the entry you have (there should be only one) and click on "edit"
the name for the connection i have set as "Contract Internet"
modem is " Cellular Line [GPRS] "
Access Point name is "internet"
User name is "web"
Password is "web"
dmain leave blank.
click on the "advanced" button
make sure that "use server-assigned IP address" i selected here and on the second (servers) tab
Click ok and finish.
Thats the manual setup but your device should also do it automatically. To force the automatic setup:
Start->settings->menu->all settings->connections-> connection setup
hope that helps!
When I'm on manage existing connection there are 3 selections. "Auto Pick", "PAYG WAP" and "Contract WAP". That may be the problem? It is using WAP instead of internet?
***Edit : This is extremely weird, when I try to create a new connection using the name "Contract Internet" it says that name already exists, but I can't choose it...wtf? Anyone care to help? I think we may have found the root of the problem

Yep... sounds like you found the issue.
For starters... are you on contract or pay as you go?
Secondly... on manage existing connections... which entry is highlighted by default... auto? payg or contract?
Well, I created that connection and that fails too
What the hell could be the problem. May I point out that this was all a sudden problem, only started occuring after I connected to a Wi-Fi network for the first ever time!
I am contract for sure, with an unlimited data plan. This is so annoying, the phone is so good but problems like this make me think it sucks, even though it may not be the phone
not sure why wifi would have caused this but it certainly does sound as if your connections are messed up... you shouldnt even be using wap.... and it sounds as if the normal contract internet settings have become hidden somehow.
anser the questions in my previous post and i can try and get this sorted for you.
ok... if you are on contract then the settings i posted previously are the correct ones.
What i would suggest you do is try the auto setup as per my previous post also.
once this is done soft reset and report back!
There is no option for auto setup for me :S
I just come to the main screen where it says
"MY ISP"
Add a new modem connection
Manage Existing Connections
"My Work Connection"
------
------
------
Any ideas as to what i should do next?

The auto setup is one step before that screen... under all settings->connections
before you hit the connections icon there should be another icon next it that says "connection setup"
Nope, unfortunately I don't find that screen. Could it be because of the new ROM? It's on the latets official ROM I downloaded, as now I notice I get the vodafone logo when load up the phone from a soft reset.

oh... it could be that Vodafone have cooked in their settings and removed the auto config in their new rom... im not sure as i dont use it. Perhaps someone else can confirm this?
Going back to my question before... when on manage existing connections screen... which entry is selected by default; autopick? PAYG? or contractWAP?
Contract WAP as far as I am aware...I guess I'll have to ring them up and talk to someone in a call centre in a third world country that are probably being paid 3p an hour.
no you dont need to do that mate...
if you setup a new connection using the settings i posted previously you will be fine.
you dont have to call it "contract Internet" you can call it whatever you want... the only thing thats matters is the settings are correct and it is selected as default.

3G Data connection issue...

Hi There...
I've owned this phone for two days and i am having some issues with the use of my 3G data connection.
I can only get 3G connection when restarting the phone, when i get to an area where i lose the connection, it does not reconnect.
Not even areas where i never had problems with my HTC Hero having 3G connection (my apartment).
As soon as i restart the phone i reestablish connection to the 3G network and it works flawless, right until the connection is lost again.
I live in the central of Copenhagen where i always should be connected.
I've tried several APN managers to activate it, but without luck.
I've entered the testing area by pressing *#*#4636#*#* and taken some photos to give more info in the phone.
Hope someone can help me.
Just some basic questions:
Did you install any apps recently? Or made some changes in the settings?
If yes go to:
Applications > Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset

Thanks again!.

[Q] GPRS connection doesn't work...

Hello everyone
I am a Chinese user. I hope you can understand my English...
Recently I have exchanged my phone with my father's Nexus S.
When I get my Omnia7 back I find that my phone cannot use GPRS connection but only WiFi...
I can turn on the data connection and the top of the display appears "E"
but no app can access data connection, I tried to turn on internet sharing but it displayed "There's no celluar data connection to share right now."
I have tried a lot of methods to fix it...
eg:
1.run Samsung Tools, check on ADC, then reboot, it doesn't work
2.run Network Profile, select Telekom.de ,then select CMCC(my mobile service provider) back , reboot, it doesn't work
3. call ##634#, *#9908# , select Suwon 2G Test Bed and save, reboot, it doesn't work.
4. call ##634#, *#9920# , it displayed all the internet settings, every line is correctly set.
5. add APN in celluar settings, reboot, and it doesn't work.
6. I called CMCC support and had my GPRS service reset, then reboot my phone, it doesn't work.
7. I tried other's SIM cards(GSM) but the same problem. I have no 3G SIM card so I don't know what will happen when I use 3G connection...
8. I put my SIM card into Nexus S, and turn on data connection, it seems that nothing is unusual... every app goes well with GPRS connection...
My Omnia 7 was very hot and in reboot loop several days ago. I put it outside the window to cool it down.
I wonder if GPRS module is burned when it comes hot and into reboot loop?
Try the Samsung network profile app, select some other provider, then yours. works for me. Might be worth a try

Thanks for your reply.
I've tried this but it doesn't work...
I think there may be some problems in GPRS module...
Thanks anyway...

Wifi

I have searched and searched. I can't find anything that can help me to find what is going on. I have a rooted/xposed moto x pure edition on Lollipop. My wifi won't work at my house. This is a problem only for the network at my house. I keep getting a "obtaining ip address" loop until it finally says "ip configuration failure"
Again this is only for my home network. It works everywhere else. I tried changing my ip to static (It then connects but doesn't have internet access), resetting all network settings, forgetting and reconnecting to the network.
I downloaded CatLog and have attached a screenshot of that.
I guess I could just wipe it and restore my apps from Titanium Backup but I'd like to avoid that if possible
If it only happens at your house, try playing with your router... factory default that first.
I did a factory reset on the router. All the other devices are still working normally except my phone. It seems to have come after my apps updated (I don't get OTA updates for my OS)

Go to Settings - Backup & Reset and select Network Settings reset and confirm, reboot, and try to add your home network again.
Be aware that ALL saved network settings and passwords will be lost performing this operation, but all other data will be intact.

Thank you acejavelin! That did the trick. I was looking for that network reset. Worked like a charm.
