My Omnia 7 keeps loosing it's 3G connection. To restore it I have to restart the phone. T-Mobile say that this happens from time to time, but it's happening every day now. It's annoying as it stops my push email from being up to date, and of course prevents the use of any internet based services until the phone is restarted.
Has anyone else noticed their phone has switching to GSM?
Had mine for 6 days.Been fine up until today, then I had the same problem.Only the once so far.
Confirm loosing 3G
Confirm loosing 3G connection, and also have phone call failures.
Factory reset did not solve the problem.
Bring it back to shop
Blackstone is back now!
At first this was occasional with my phone, then more frequent, and it's all the time. If I want to use the Internet I have to restart the phone. My house is covered by full HSPA, but the only way to get it is to take the battery out while the phone is switched on. I can sometimes get 3G by a simple restart, which I lasts about 40 minutes.
I like the phone, so I'm going to hold out for a software update. All it needs to do is check available networks and I think that, if this is a wide spread issue, Samsung/Microsoft will fix it. Hope so.
Please post here if you have this issue too.
I have also been having this issue... sometimes it doesnt come back straight away when i restart it but after about 10mins its back.
When I activated it with orange I was told to expect a few txt msg's that would need deleting and the phone restarting... I only got 1 msg, maybe this has something to do with it, maybe the phone hasnt been sent enough updates.
I also have this issue and have done for weeks. Orange couldn't solve it either.
It only happens overnight at home. I either need to reset the phone / rescan available networks or turn flight mode off and on again for the connection to restore.
I was thinking it may be an issue with t-mobile since it only happens at my home where orange signal is poor and i roam over to t-mobile.
If i stay in an area with good Orange signal i don't get the problem.
Good to know i'm not the only one with this problem. It's very annoying!
Hi y'all.
I had the same problem: 3G was lost every time. I was fed up restarting the phone every time, so I looked for another way to get 3G back. I found out that disabling and enabling SIM security (phone > setttings) got me 3G again... for a short while.
But: after disabling SIM security permanently, 3G kept on going (in fact for over a week now).
I think that changing the PIN to some other number, might cause this. I haven't yet tried changing it to the default PIN again, to see if using that for SIM security solves it. For the moment I'm too happy it works again.
I have suffered from poor reception issues ever since I got my Omnia 7.
It seems like the reception comes and goes. I will receive e-mails, which proves that the phone has been connected, but as soon as I try to use data myself, by visiting a web page or refreshing an app like facebook, the reception disappears and the "no reception" symbol drops down from the status bar.
Also, often when I try to send an SMS, it will appear to have been sent, yet 10 minutes later I will receive a "Can't send...try again" message. Once I have received this, the SMS will never successfully send. However, in the meantime I can receive SMS messages, which shows that the phone has been getting a signal.
This is SO frustrating and is ruining my experience with the phone.
I have posted requests on the Microsoft Answers forum and the only suggestions have been to reset the phone or turn WiFi off. Neither of these have had any effect. I have never enabled SIM lock.
I have heard that there is a firmware update due soon which includes a new radio stack. I am desperately hoping that this will improve the situation, as at the moment I cannot rely on my Omnia 7 as my only phone.
Alex.
Hi Loco,
You are right in saying that social answers doesn't really help much .
Luckily there IS a new firmware from a couple of days ago! Check out the Omnia 7 Dev section. There are only a few posts.
And here is also a good link for you. You are right to assume that it comes with a new radio stack which improves on performance.

Finally found a thread on this... I have been having a similar problem since I got my phone from Optus here in Australia. I took it back and they replaced it for me but the new phone is exactly the same. I don't lose the 3G icon but anything data related just ceases from loading. Right now I'm trying to refresh the Facebook app and it just comes up with 'Unable to connect', even though I have full 3G reception.
I flashed it to the newer leaked firmware and it hasn't changed anything, problem still persists unfortunately. This is a major problem that isn't getting enough attention! It seems quite widespread and Omnia 7 specific.
Had similar problems, but after I changed my provider ( O2-Germany), 3G is stable.
For the people having this problem, have you tried setting the phone to prefer 3g? Details of how to do this are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915813

Same here man. On Optus and my reception sucks with this device. What the hell is samsung doing? FIX IT!
I have been having this problem with my Omnia 7. The frustrating thing is this is a replacement phone I had for an LG which I had replaced THREE TIMES due to random resets. So now I have a phone that I have to turn off and on EVERY MORNING in order for the data connection to start working again. Needless to say I am very frustrated. I am on Orange in the UK. I suspect it could be related to when being an a poor reception area and it tries to switch to tmobile. I am going to try turning roaming off. Please, if anyone finds a solution to this let me know.
Thanks

My problem got worse with the Mango update. I'm now on my 2nd handset after having a replacement from Orange warranty. This one still loses it's connection but much less frequently.
TBH i don't think it will ever get fixed. I started an MS Answers thread months ago and lots of people had the same problem but we never got a response from MS.
Conisdering the age of the model now I doubt Samsung care, well they didn't seem to care a year ago so they won't now... For this reason I will not buy another Samsung phone. It's infuriating.
Looks like I am stuck with it until December then when I can upgrade to a Nokia lumia. A long wait :-(
i have this issue, too.. but for me i only have to set airplane mode on and off. sometimes i deactivate data connection, go to a random website, get the 'no connection' error, then activate data connection back and it works.
however, after installing the latest drivers & firmware, i get this issue A LOT less frequent. like once in 2-3 days.
i hope ms or samsung will fix this because it can get really annoying. especially when you need eg. a quick google-search..
Just flicking the flight mode wouldn't be so bad but that doesn't work for me, I have to restart the phone each time. I love WP7 but this and the other problems with the LG is driving me nuts. Almost wondering whether I should have just followed the crowd and gone for an iPhone.

Same as me - Flicking flight mode on-off doesn't solve it, needs a soft-reset.
Like I say, there are quite a few with Omnias on Orange with this problem.
I'm in the same boat, I've had this for months now so I guess I'll just deal with it until I can upgrade the start of April and get a Lumia (hopefully the EU 900/910 will be here by then!). There is no way on this earth Samsung are getting any more of my money. Nokia seem fully commited so they can take my cash next time!
I have the same problem with the data stopping working on o2 in the UK. But I also sometimes cant receive calls even though the phone has service, then there are the times where it site there going GPRS/3G/3G+/No Service and you cant do anything with it apart from pull the battery.
Got my phone two weeks ago and I'm getting a problem with my search button. it keeps going off by itself like some one is pressing them and the speak now screen come up.
Any one else here having the same issue? Theres people in the internet also having the same problem but so far no answers.

I have this problem too but it only seems to happen intermittently when I am in an area with a poor signal (1 or less bars).
I've also taken to restarting my phone every day or two and It hasn't happened in awhile.
I had this problem with mine and when I looked it up it seemed I wasn't the only one. Most people seemed to think it was a hardware issue. I exchanged my nexus for a new one and the problem is gone so I guess it was hardware.

I got fed up so I called in for a new one sent to me. I hope this one is problem free!
It happens randomly but yes it seems to happen more when the signal is low.
I may have found the problem but not a solution. I noticed when playing with the phone that its always in Roaming mode. If you go to:
Settings>Wireless & Networks Settings>Mobile networks>
you will see that the "Data Roaming" feature is ENABLED which I believe has to be on since the phone is unlocked and you wont get data service if that is not enabled(for me anyway). Try Disabling this feature and just connect with a Wi-fI and play around with the phone. See if the issue still occurs. Mine stopped with this feature disabled and only comes back when it is enabled. The phone however is useless if this feature is not enabled if I'm not around any wi-fi.
Let me know if I'm right. Maybe someone good can create some sort of fix. looks like a software/program issue?
Having the same problem with my Droid X. Seems to be a software issue that is affecting Nexus S phones in Canada most severely, but also Droid X phones in the USA.
I'd include the link to the Google support forum thread but I'm too new of a user...

Its not tied to roaming but to 3G. In your case turning roaming off turns of 3G.

Had the problem last year on stock gingerbread with radio KB3, seemed to go away when fiddling with radio settings.
Have it again this year with ICS. Using radio KB3.
Notice when travelling in/out coverage zones. (Right at the edge, when coverage is weakest.)

Supposedly a fix here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815071
It doesn't provide a fix for us but there is a whole solution thread by the Samsung Fascinate section that seems to work!

Since one of the solution is a kernel fix, maybe you can get one of the nice kernel developer to look at it to see if they can include it within their custom kernel
Hey all
I recently got my contract phone upgrade and got myself the motorola defy
The first phone I received, as soon as it would connect to 3G or Hsdpa it would reboot, forcing it into 2G helped but didn't solve the issue, it would still reboot without reason
So I sent it back
The second phone I received and currently using, has been mostly ok, except when you put the phone into airplane mode and then take it out, the phone tries to connect to the network, it connects for a few moments and then drops, it then does that a few times and then the phone reboots
Forcing it into 2G mode when it's in this loop fixes this, it connects fine and then I can put it back to automatic and it connects to 3G fine
Is this software issue with the phone? Or some odd conflict with my provider?
My phone is currently running stock 2.1 Rom, if that helps at all
Hi
Had a similar issue with the first Defy Plus I got. I sent it back. Have seen some similar threads about this but no solution, sorry. I am awaiting replacement number three after the second one had a faulty touch screen.
Regards

Could be hardware related. I think that the initialisation of the 3g module is not working as it should. Maybe the power management of the 3g module is broken? If you did not installed any custom firmwares or modded the stock one I would give it back and ask for a new one.

Mmm... I think I will restore to factory default, if it still does it then I guess I should take it back, really annoying, for such an awesome phone, it sure does have a lot of issues
And it will be another week and a half wait for it again :/
Thanks
Well doing a full factory default achieved nothing
Think I should take it in
Thanks for the advice
HI ALL, Im pretty new here. after so many tries finally i was able to install cm7.1 on my defy. but im facing some issues. before the installation i forgot to take a back up of the existing ROM so if i have to go back to the previous ROM how to do that? and also there is no network coverage after the installation. please please anybody help!!!!!!
Have a vibrant myself but I'm helping a buddy get cm7 on his defy and after flashing didn't have a network signal. I looked at the cm7 install guide and it referenced a defy base band switcher app for better coverage. Had him try that and he got his data connection back. Might want to look into it or read the guide.

If your previous ROM was stock that came with your phone, flash the corresponding SBF file from the sticky on the Dev section to go back to stock. If it was some other custom ROM, wipe data/factory reset in CWM and flash the old ROM. Make backup of your apps using Titanium Backup if you want.
For CM7 network issues, choose the correct baseband from Defy Baseband Switcher. For India, pick anything that is 900/2100MHz...
Also, make sure you have read as many guides and First Posts on important threads as you can. Here is a collection of good threads you can read for these questions, and more that you might get later:

Hello! Noob here as well.
I installed CM7.1 stable on my Defy (running 2.2.2 foryo) 2 days ago.
All went well, except that network connection is lost after a couple of minutes after boot. Sometimes it takes an hour or two but I still end up with no connection.
I've googled everything about it in the last days. I played with the Baseband Switcher and although most options in the BB Switcher work right after a reboot, it still looses the signal after a couple of minutes.
One thing I noticed, when the signal is lost, trying to set the "Airplane mode" will fail. If trying to set Airplane ON - the notification icon will not replace the signal icon and will also be unable to set Airplane OFF (since it didn't finish turning ON).
I also noticed that if I force stop the "Dialer" system app, then the Airplane notification ico shows up, but still there's no way to turn it OFF (it's disabled in the menu). After a reboot Airplane can be set OFF and everything works for another small period of time (..until baseband crashes again?).
Hope it makes some sense. I'm quite sure this is not an operator issue or hardware related, since my Defy worked just fine before CM7.1
Also, I am located in Romania, operator is Orange.

I have the same issue, except that it is much rarer (ranging from every other day, to even a month between such incidents). It can also be triggered sometimes when I turn off Wi-Fi and the device tries to regain mobile data connection (not sure if it matters, but I set the network mode to 2G on my phone). The battery drain is increased if this occurs without the user noticing - the phone seems to search in vain for the signal.
Using the latest SEA baseband on M1 (Singapore).

I get this problem too. Happens every so often when I'm at work. I've always put it down to a bad signal where I work but as I always turn the wifi of before leaving home it could be down to that. If anyone has any solutions it would be great
Ok, a little update on this:
At the office now, further playing with the Baseband Switcher, I ended up selecting "Italia RT 2.51.1" which has the same 900/2100 freq that my operator requires and it seems to work. Even getting 3G.
If "2.51.1" is some sort of protocol version, then all the other options I've tried were either 4.x or 3.x or even 2.21.x ..and none of them worked for more then 30 minutes.
Also, not sure if signal strength has something to do with this because I did a test, going to the basement of my office in order to loose signal, then back up and it worked - got the signal back, without reboot or anything.
Also, I would really appreciate if someone could explain in a few words what those version numbers mean (ex: "Italia RT 2.51.1"), as I know nothing about gsm bands and protocols.
UPDATE: Back home, lost signal again, after a whole day without any problems. Funny.
UPDATE 2:
So after much google searching and trying literally every option in the Baseband Switcher, I switched my SIM card with a friend's SIM and guess what.. IT WORKED! Even more, when I inserted my original SIM into the other phone after a few minutes it lost signal, too! It was a faulty SIM, that has just started to "die".
Conclusion:
- Keep playing with that Baseband Switcher until you get something that works for you.
-Make sure your SIM is working properly in other phones, otherwise ask your operator to replace it.
Thanks and hope this helps.

Not really. As long as you have a working Baseband selected (with correct frequencies) I don't think it matters.
But overall CM7.1 has better battery efficiency then stock ROMs, or at least that's what I felt.
update:
Well, I had a play with the baseband switcher, realising i was on 'international'. I switched to uk t-mobile and from there it seemed to work much better. A slight blip at work today (think it's a bit of a signal black-spot though) but restarted and it seems fine again. I've also just realised it's gone 37hrs since its last charge too
Strangely my other problem, the backlighting on the soft-keys not working, fixed itself at the same time. dunno if these two things are linked or not?
i use the CEE one.
So I have a Huawei p8 gra-L09 with Huawei P8 [ROM][6.0] fRomFuture - Home that I installed a couple of months ago. Everything has worked perfectly up until recently when my phone does not find any 3g networks, only 4g. When I try to make a call it's stuck on 4g. I don't even know if my phone is the problem or if it's my carrier. I tried to call them, they said they "made the network better".... But the problem came back after 1-3 days again.
Can I solve this somehow? My phone is also rooted but that doesn't really matter I guess..
Check the fRomFuture thread, another guy in that thread has the same issue..
did you managed to get the issue resolved?
Well, nope. Turning of 4g sort of fixes the problem I think. The connection drops sometimes but most of the time it works. Also I changed to stock b392 because I could not turn off 4g in the build that was used in fromfuture - home for some reason. It automatically turned it on just after chabging to only 3g/2g.
Still doesn't work as intended though and I am 99.9% sure it is not because I don't know how to flash. Used adb and fastboot and unlocked bootloaders and whatever on so many phones since my first smartphone (htc wildfire).
Are you by any chance Swedish or scandinavian? Could it be that it is not compatible with the networks in some countries or something?

No i am in UK; i bleive the single sim version supports all the bands, at least here in UK; it is a phone i just bought off ebay and i can return it but I wanted to be sure it wasn't something that could not easily be fixed before doing so.
Hi again. I have sort of figured something more out about the problem. This morning 3G did not want to work again. So I googled, and googled and googled. Tried everything basically. Then I noticed that my APN settings are not what they were last time I set them(???). So I went into my carriers website. Set the correct apn values and removed any unnecessary values that did not seem to affect anything. Then it immediately worked again. Now I have no idea how phones sets the default settings but it seems like they are wrong? Maybe this was just random that it started working after applying the correct settings again. No idea, going to see if it works all day or if it randomly stops working as earlier.
Edit: 5 hours later still works and the connection hasnt stopped randomly.
Ok so it has worked for 13 hours. It's actually weird if the APN settings for 4g broke the 3g connection sometimes randomly throughout the day, right? I don't know how apn settings really work but I remember setting a port number and also changed the name of the APN so that I can be sure it does not change to something else.
ugh, I give up. Now it stopped working again since yesterday. It feels like it's my carrier but so many people have this problem so I guess it's something else..
Nevermind I don't give up. I found a solution . When 3g/calls stop working the phone usually gets really, really hot. So putting it in the freezer for a couple of minutes actually fixes the problem for me, atleast until the phone gets really hot again. I have tried it four times now and every time it has worked.
