Archos 70b IT vs Archos 70 IT - Gen8 General

See that
http://www.jbmm.fr/2012/01/archos70bit-chiffres-tests

Does anyone know if the data transmission speed of wifi radio in the new 70bIT has also been kneecapped at a very low 54 megabytes/sec utilizing 802.11n protocol like all the other Archos Gen 8 devices?
---------- Post added at 11:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:20 AM ----------
Given that the processor achitecture of the 70 IT and 70b IT are apparently the same (single core ARM Cortex A8), when will Archos push Honeycomb out to the Gen 8 devices having the same porcessor?
Also it has been suggested that the new 70b IT OS will be updated to ICS in February. Will the Gen 8 devices get this. And if not, why not?

Ubuntu Phone OS - Should we expect it on our N1's?

Today Ubuntu Phone OS was announced, and it seems like it'd be officialy demonstrated running on a Galaxy Nexus. What about our olden but golden Nexus Ones? Personally I hope that if the code's available, given the work done already we'll have roms as functional as ICS/JB roms soon enough
I am wondering the same.
Shouldn't think so, the N1's storage is piss poor.
well , on ubuntu site the wrote that there new phone OS should work fine on any android device , BTW it would be easy to port it couse they use exactly the same android drivers for hardware
will be great to have it on our nexus

Proper Ubuntu phones are promised to be out in early 2014, but the company has a number of demo phones out here in London and downloadable images of the development platform will be available for the Galaxy Nexus over the next couple of weeks. That's the only officially supported device for now, which Canonical expects developers to be working on as they start fleshing out the ecosystem.

well , we don't know if it's possible or not now ..

That's true if he owns a Galaxy Nexus or a quad-core device. We are at very low edge in comparison.

Here is an excerpt from Ubuntu's website:
Technical specifications
Ubuntu for Android requires minimal custom hardware enablement, allowing fast and cost-efficient core integration. It requires a core based on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) or any subsequent version.
Ubuntu and Android share the same kernel. When docked, the Ubuntu OS boots and runs concurrently with Android. This allows both mobile and desktop functionality to co-exist in different runtimes.
Shared services and applications are delivered using a Convergence API module which ensures the tight integration between desktop and mobile environments. Work is balanced across the cores of the phone. When the handset is not docked, both CPU cores transfer their full power to Android

This is not the same as the recently announced Ubuntu Phone OS. You are linking to the chroot method which still requires you boot into android. We need a native port for it to be at all useful for our N1.
That's about Ubuntu for Android. An entirely different thing.

That's what I think as well. The differences between Cortex A8 and A9 can prove crucial for the porting of the OS to older chipsets. Especially if the code relies heavily on floating point operations where A8 is extremely slower than A9.
But we can always hope and wait:fingers-crossed:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/porting-ubuntu-touch-is-as-simple-as-building-cm/
"The instructions for porting are pretty straightforward. Since Ubuntu Touch is just a CyanogenMod 10.1 base with the Ubuntu Touch interface running in a container and accessed via chroot, if your device currently runs CM10.1 then you’ll be able to port this."
Sounds promising.

Fire tv now uk prime works

Hi since the last firmware update my fire tv purchased in usa now shows uk time and plays my prime movies and tv shows. This is a great box and so much better than the roku3 in every way.
Are you logging in with a UK Amazon account? If so, what did the Prime video section look like before this update?

I wish they would have held off a bit longer and based the OS on Android M for the external storage improvements. Maybe an update or a future model? All in all, looks like a nice upgrade. 4k video, faster cpu and Alexa voice control. Honestly though, if they release an upgrade for the original FireTV that has Alexa then that's all I really care about.
Well now I am glad I don't feel any pressure on my wallet to upgrade!
Nothing that grabs me in the new list as "must buy".
I ordered the gamer model, should be a decent upgrade from the stick. Plus the stick with tvaddons might pay half of I sell it right

The real specs... (no GPU clock speed, dammit)
Processor: MediaTek Quad-core up to 2 Ghz Dual-core @ 2.0 GHz + Dual-core @ 1.6 GHz
GPU: Power VR GX6250
Could this run Dolphin emulator,or Yabause (OpenGL ES 3.x plugin),or not crash with Reicast?
What will the results be in Mupen64Plus AE's latest alpha build and GLideN64,I wonder.
Damn... disappointing upgrade specs for sure. I understand budget constraints, but i really was craving more umph. The 6250 is already an older chip, matching the Adreno 330 from 2013.
Before you jump on me, i know it is an upgrade from the OG FTV, but that doesn't mean they couldn't do better than that.
REally considering upgrading to an Nvidia box in the future now.. bummer...

No Thank you, I decide go for Nivdia Shield Pro (Android TV), They are most powerful, available TWRP recovery, and unlocked boot-loader and already have custom ROM available. Only difference is Price cheaper in Amazon Fire TV compare to Nivdia Shield Pro but HEY the Nivdia Shield Pro is a worth to have it!

I am getting tired of Amazon locked down boot-loader, and recovery. I still have my original Fire TV with unlocked boot-loader, and rooted, and It still lackluster development except @rbox pre-rooted ROM.

So what is the chance of the new fire tv accepting exfat sdcards or usb sticks? The 4gb limit of fat32 is bollocks.

Amazon will release new Fire HD 8 Tablets models, next week?

I've seen some leaked information that Amazon is preparing, and that they will release new Fire Tablets and also a New FireTV-Stick, next week!
I have also noticed that several weeks ago, some colors of the FireHD8 sometimes are unavailable, in very short supply or are also offered Used-Like-New/Used-Very-Good, what could be a sign that Amazon is preparing to launch some new models with some enhanced features.
Does anyone know if this information is true and what we can expect in these new Fire HD 8 tablet (2015) models?
The new Fire HD 8 is here! What's new?
All-new Fire HD 8, now with up to 12 hours of battery life, 2X the storage, and 50% more RAM for faster performance - made for all day entertainment.
Last year's model had 8 hours of battery life, now 12 hours; 8 GB and 16 GB choices vs now 16 & 32 GB; 1 GB RAM now 1.5 GB same processor speed; microSD card storage old model 128Gb now 200GB; price is lower then old model 16Gb $90 32GB $120 same colors: black, magenta, blue, and tangerine. The big deal for this tablet is the addition of Alexa, but the same goes for the old model but you will need to update your software to get it.
I would like to add, that after checking the product description at Amazon.com, I have noticed that this newer model is also much thicker than the previous 2015 models, because this newer model now has 0.4 inches thick.
All-new Fire HD 8 (2016):
Product Dimensions: 8.4 x 5 x 0.4 inches
Shipping Weight: 1 pounds
Old Fire HD 8 (2015):
Product Dimensions: 8.4 x 5 x 0.3 inches
Shipping Weight: 1.4 pounds
This could perhaps be because this new model now comes with a higher capacity battery, which is larger and heavier.
I do not know if this information is correct, but if it is true, the new FireHD8 (2016) Model will be thicker (0.4" instead of 0.3" of the Old 2015 model), but it will be also heavier !
The Bad news is that Amazon just to keep lower the product cost and the final sale price, decided to stuck with almost the same processor instead of raise it speed a little bit, so that this NEW fire tablet could work with less lagging and more efficiently...
The good news is that Amazon finally decided to add 50% more RAM and also doubled (2X) the storage Memory !
The Best thing is that now the price is much lower, which makes these new Fire Tablets more affordable and appealing than other tablets brands !!
I already have an HD8 Fire (2015), but unfortunately due to a weaker CPU, the poorest Camera and Slower WiFi, compared with the last year model... I do not think I'll change my FireHD8 (2015) by this new 2016, because aside from memory and battery, I really can not find such big differences or improvements...

I totally agree on your comments about the processor, but what I meant was that Amazon must've taken advantage of this new hardware upgrade, to upgrade also the processor with a higher-speed, to help a little with the performance and operation of the NEW FireHD8 Tablet...
I already know that for watching or streaming videos, is not necessary to have a very fast processor, because all the newest tablets now bring hardware decoders and others separate components to help and accelerate these functions...
I am very happy with the new lower price, with the bigger Battery (12 hours), and with the addition of more RAM and Storage Memory, but I am very disappointed and don't understand why Amazon decided to lower the Front/Rear Cameras to 2MP/VGA, that was 5MP/720P on the previous 2016 model.
Another thing I do not understand is, why if most cheap Chinese tablets have GPS, none of the new Amazon Fire Tablets comes with GPS ?
Maybe this GPS function is not so necessary to some users, but it would be a very important addition !
However I think, as Elias already has mentioned on his excellent review in*www.aftvnews.com, that Amazon seems to now focus on selling best low-end tablets, at the lowest possible price:
"Amazon’s tablet strategy of Less is More"
"Amazon just announced their new Fire HD 8 tablet and in doing so, have dove deeper into their tablet strategy of: less is more. Amazon’s Fire Phone failure marks a turning point where the company stopped trying to go after the upper-end flagship hardware market, and started dominating the lower-end of the hardware spectrum. Last year’sline of new tablets reduced hardware specs across the board and cut prices by more than half. In doing so, they became Amazon’s best selling tablets to date, and include Amazon’s single best-selling device ever, the $49.99 Fire 7″ tablet, which incidentaly took the title of best-selling device from Amazon’s other budget device, the Fire TV Stick. This year’s new Fire HD 8 continues the trend of less is more."

I think we can say with certainty that the camera is a cost issue. Last years model was a lot more money. GPS though in addition to cost may be that because it doesn't have a cellular version, so having GPS is useless on the go. You you could tether with a phone, but that device always has GPS anyway, so it becomes pointless to have it on the Fire.
Very unusual, except the first gen (2011)

Got mine yesterday and was able to install the Play store using the method. I'm not yet able to posts links on here, but there's a good tutorial on YouTube called "Amazon Fire Tablet - Google Play Store without root (Fast & Easy)".
I hadn't thought I would want to install the Play Store, but the Amazon "Appstore" is missing one of the two apps I need to be able to run for work. (It used to be on Amazon, but is no longer supported.)
General impressions of the tablet: It's light enough, feels solid (but a little cheap), and has a display that is completely adequate for the price. I'm a teacher and I'm using it at school with my students and it's great for that. Good screen size.

Help deciding for a HU.

I'm looking for a HU and have been browsing around here, but there seems to be conflicting information.
For example:
Some specific models overheat without some modification
Some can't be rooted (yet)
Some are just slow, crappy, not worth the money.
What should I be looking for?
Car is a 2012 Subaru WRX and the space available is 200mm(w) x 120mm(h). I have a backup camera that I'd like to hook up.
Looking for something of the following:
1.) Root support
2.) Latest Android version
3.) Quad core or better (been looking at the new octa-core ones)
4.) Doesn't overheat.
5.) Capacitive touch
EDIT: I have been recommended the Panlelo HU on Amazon that's $200 Thoughts?
Never go to 1gb ram only .

If you want a good Head Unit with actual Android 5.1 or later, DON'T BUY that Panlelo or any Panlelo unit, Fake Advertising they said is Android 5.1 (Lollipop) but is actually Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) and as far as i know won't get any update , plus the Seller is been ignoring my messages about an explanation about current OS,
Short answer NO Don't recommend Panlelo Units, and if you can go for a Joying 2GB Ram / 32GB Storage i'll go with that.
is there a HU I should look into? Recommendations?
