Mind Explaining?
moom999:
My Atrix doesn't have the 4G label either and in my country is being marketed as simply "Atrix".
So far I found no differences of any kind, apart maybe the 4G radio \ antenna.
Also unlocking, rooting, flashing is the same for me as for the 4G.

you can install any rom you want. they are all in the "development" area.
you can find a "how to" in this area.
also, there is a good german "how to" on the androidhilfe.de site, if you have problems.

Also it's a HSPA+ capable device so if ur network supports u should get at least HSDPA.

No, the German Version of the Atrix is NOT 4G - as said before it can do HSPA+ (see here).
I got it from o2 and I´m pretty satisfied.

HTC Hero GSM Owners : Questions!

So I've got an open T-Mobile (USA) account and I'm looking for a GSM device to fall in love with. The form factor and design of the original Hero has caught my eye for several months and I'm almost definitely sold on buying the phone.
A few questions I couldnt find solid answers to in the forums:
1. Will an factory unlocked (Non carrier branded, direct from HTC) Hero operate properly (and in 3G) on the American networK? What features will I not be able to use?
2. Purchasing the device unlocked - do I still have access to the Android market and purchasing abilities with my Gmail account?
3. Multitouch in the browser and albums - does it work as smooth as iPhone or Palm Pre?
4. I've heard the device is to go fully Multitouch with the 2.0 update - where do I get this update from and does it apply to unlocked devices?
5. Do you own one in the US and use it currently on a US GSM carrier? (Tmobile, AT&T).. how well does it work?
Please be sure to answer all the questions - I left my HTC devices (Touch Pro, Mogul, Wizard, etc) behind for a Palm Pre and I've never been happier (EVER!! ) but I want an Android phone to play around with.
These are the questions I can answer.

You would have to get a European HTC Hero, not the Canadian HTC Hero to have full 3G on T-Mobile, due to T-Mobile use 1700MHz & 2100MHz & that's what the European Hero supports.

Even if it doesn't, you can root the Hero & push all the necessary files to get all those functions.

Multitouch in the Stock HTC Hero browser is pretty good but not as good as the iPhone, but still good. Haven't played with the Pre browser so I don't have a opinion on it.

No, I don't think that is correct. The European HTC Hero uses the 2100/1900 3G band where as T-Mobile in the Use 2100/1700. I can confirm that my HTC Hero (European, unlocked) never got 3G when I roamed onto T-Mobile U.S.A
4. From HTC in March or from these forums now.

I stand corrected. Read some incorrect info & doublechecked on HTC's site & the European Hero doesn't support 1700MHz, so ya no 3G on T-Mobile.

Thats horrible - I'm going to check out YouTube videos to be sure. If it doesnt Im going to be sorely disappointed! I really love this phone and having the Sprint device has made me want the European version that much more (the form factor of the European HERO is goregous compared to the way they butchered it on Sprint).
Yes because no one lies on YouTube
It's in b&w on HTC's site that the European Hero only supports 2100MHz 3G & T-mobile requires 2100 MHZ AND 1700MHz for 3G. The Canadian Hero doesn't support neither 2100MHz or 1700MHz.

Thanks for the nasty reply. I appreciate that.
One of those millions of YouTube reviews had mentioned something about the Hero supporting 3G when plopped onto a specific network. Guess I wasnt paying close enough attention. I suppose I'll be purchasing a G1 and figuring out how to install the stock rom of the HERO (or at least those fancy widgets) without turning it into a brick.
What nasty reply? Why would believe so random person, when the the manufacture of the hardware states it does support the specific radio needed for your needs. It does support 3G on specific networks, which T-Mobile is not one of them.

Hero? - piece of rubbish.
Don't bother buying a Hero:
1) Battery life is rubbish
2) Lag on touchscreen is unacceptable
3) Regularly drops calls
4) Official rom updates delivered according to the Tectonic Plate movement calendar, i.e once every thousand years
5) On screen keyboard is rubbish (go on- just try typing a whole email on it aaaaargh!)
6) Lots of good apps but the rest of the phone is just not up to it yet.
7) Often does not send dtmf tones
8) Apps regularly crash
In short, mine is going on ebay for some other sucker to have to endure it.

Bye Bye G1

Just wanted to say bye, and thanks, to everyone in the G1 Forum.
I've now sold my G1 and got a desire (which is awesome and dare I say it 10x better than the G1).
Thanks to everyone who has given me support, SuperD, Cyanogen and anyone else's rom I've used.
I'm waiting for a US release so I can use 3G or maybe even 4G. Hope you have fun with your desire.

USA 3G bands are "special." With the Desire you can't get 3G with either AT&T or T-Mobile.
Just to let you guys know, apparently it's coming out in Australia on some network that uses the same 3G Bands as the USA.

£130 on ebay, pretty decent as I didn't sell the SD Card with it.
I had intended to sell the 16gb SD Card, Phone (Boxed) and Motorola s9 wireless earphones.
The buyer wanted me to end the auction early and offered £130 for the phone only, guess I got lucky.
Same here, i got my Desire on Saturday and couldn't be happier with it!
Though i'm a sucker and gave my G1 to my dad, keep it in the family and all
Gonna sell my Hero though, i saw they still fetch around £180 on ebay...

Would it be worth it upgrading to Evo?

Hi, I'm wondering is it worth it to splash $50 to buy an used Evo after selling my HD2? The thing is I want Android with 4.3" screen but I don't know if Android on HD2 is good enough compared to a real Android phone. So what do you think? Would there be a perfect Android ROM that'd make HD2 the same as any Android phone? One more factor to consider, my country doesn't support 4G. Thanks.

Your country needs to support CDMA to use the EVO, IT IS NOT GSM COMPATIBLE!
If you would like an Android GSM phone with a 4.3'' screen, why not go for the HTC Desire HD?

yes, of course i'm aware of that. desire hd is not an option because it's not released yet here and even if it is, the price is out of my range.

Well, your country doesn't have any CDMA network. And... The EVO 4G is available ?

my country indeed has a CDMA network. used one myself. what my country doesn't have is a 4g network. people buy evo from other countries. it's not officially released.
having used an evo i can tell you the is little to no speed difference. If you dont mind wating for the issues we're currently having with android to be resolved then no it isnt worth it. If you cant wait any longer then go for the evo.

yes i know. evo works in my country.
Just in case you talk about Pelephone (Israel), while the Evo should, indeed, be compatible with Pelephone's CDMA network, good luck convincing Pelephone to put you on it. And, while their CDMA network is currently fully operational, it kinda looks like they are more into their GSM one, and may eventually start killing the CDMA network off.

How compatible is the atrix with T-Mobile?

Sorry if this has been answered but I'm on the xda app and can't search. I'm thinking about getting this phone and unlocking it to work on T-Mobiles network. How cross compatible is it? Will it work with the T-Mobile "4G"?

Nope, you will only get 2G (EDGE).
t-mobile and at&t use different 3G frequencies, so if you unlock it you will only get EDGE speeds. Not worthy IMO, you have lots of options in your country, i would recommend to wait for the samsung galaxy s II phone.
Will work on the network but data will be at Edge speeds, not 4G.

On the new Nexus S - if you run out of internal storage - what size memory card can you add? Oh, wait they left off the SD card slot on that model. But those super AMOLED screens are really easy on the battery right? Oh wait, if the screen is black they use less juice but not otherwise.

That code process is to unlock the phone to enable it to be used with networks other than AT&T. But that doesn't get you data speed any faster than 2G/Edge using an Atrix on T-Mobile's network.
I'm a little confused here. You guys are saying that the Atrix will only get 2G/EDGE speeds on TMobile because the frequencies are different.
I am currently using the Nexus One.. how is it that I'm getting 3G speeds with a phone that is compatible with both AT&T and TMobile then??
Doesnt this mean that the Atrix should be able to get 3G speeds as long as it has the appropriate software? or am I not understanding something..
There are 2 kinds of nexus ones.. one with AWS bands (tmobile) and one with the regular 850/1900 (ATT). That's why you see them work on both tmobile and att. But a single device won't work on both bands.
It is a hardware issue. No software flashing will be able to fix it. If you bought the wrong one then you're stuck with it.

False. There's not a chance in the world that is true. T-Mo USA and AT&T use mutually exclusive bands. No carrier-branded phones carry both bands. The only modern phone that carries bands necessary for 3/4G on either network would be the upcoming, not-for-sale/developer-only Nokia N950.

The Nokia N8 and E7 also have the 3G frequencies necessary for both At&t and T-mobile, as well as Europe/Asia (850/900/1700/1900/2100). However, I agree with you that no At&t/T-mobile branded device carries all the needed bands.

Ah, I see. I didnt realize that there are 2 types of the Nexus One.
I had assumed that since they are not branded by any carriers that they were all the same device.
Thanks
I was really hoping to have my TZones internet plan, which runs at 3G speeds on the Nexus, run on an unlocked Atrix but that doesn't look possible.
Are there any phones newer than the Nexus One that will work with Tmobile 3G and are unbranded by Tmobile?

Here's a list of phones that will work with tmobile 3G. Take your pick. You may have to source it from somewhere else if you wish to buy it unlocked and unbranded.
The Nexus S is unlocked and unbranded even if you get it from tmobile. But since you are coming from the Nexus One, it is up to you if its worth the upgrade. Other than the Nexus S, have a look at dual core phones.

Atrix on t-mobile
i am currently running atrix 4g on system version 4.5.141 and android version 2.3.6.. I am rooted and have and unlocked boot loader. I also got the unlock code for my phone and it was successful and i am now running T-mobile sim chip i am only getting the Edge .. I have a thought as if you could change the phone frequency settings with sqlite editor i mean if you can disable the entitlement_check to enable theathering with AT&T's 2gb plan then we should be able to figure out how to change the frequency ratings of the phone to be able to run on t-mobiles 4g ... I wish that someone with a little more Knowledge could help out with this..

Search for LTE on the Nexus 4 board, there is a whole thread dedicated to this. Out of the box, the Nexus 4 will not run on 4G, but there are modded "hybrid" radios which will allow you to use 4G. Again, search and you will find
You´ll need to flash the hybrid radio I mentioned there - if you're new to all this, read the threads very carefully, and follow the required steps as described, and you'll be fine.
I did and found things but nothing about the frequency available
My friend.... Those are GHz...... Read in wiki 4g bands

Which wiki? Nexus 4 does not support 4G out of the box, you need to use hybrid radio.
You need a provider who uses channel 4 as that's the only one in nexus 4. You don't state your country or provider so how can we help?
