Hi,
So I bought my second HD2 in 2 months on ebay because I wanted a phone that you I can "do stuff" with.
The first one was a piece of **** that only turned on when I put it in the freezer and the flash memory was damaged I guess. Alright, my bad, the seller said that it was broken but only the software...
I got another one that was sold as in perfekt condition for christmas and after 1 day of playing and flashing around the volume down button went berserk. Now it is turned on constantly which means I get into the bootloader all the time and even if I manage to boot WP, I get the volume screen at 99% of the time.
Am I unlucky or is the HTC HD2 simply a crappy phone that likes to brake down?
Can you guys help me with the volume down thing? I bet it is hardware related but I like the way the phone looks and feels a lot
LOL @ "The first one was a piece of **** that only turned on" way to funny.
Now 433Mhz the HD2 (taking US-HD2 aka Leo1024) is NOT a POS phone even now. Taking it that it was the most powerful phone in market when it came out. You have to understand HD2-EU been out since 2009Q3 and HD2-US been out since 2010Q1. Taking it as its almost 2012 where lifespan of a phone is close 9-12months. I am sure the POS you bought was faulty thats why the Seller sold it. If I still had my HD2 I would still keep it now until Edge or now upgrade it to Amaze.
I'm not sayin that the phone hardware is crap, but it seems to be very fragile. I never had issues with cell phones are smartphones before. Had a Touch Diamond for 2 years, a Nokia 5800 and a Samsung S8500 before.
Maybe my cleaning efforts have damaged the volume button. That thing smelled like a billion cigarettes and I put on a little too much cleaning vinegar.
I guess, I'll open both phones tomorrow. I am pretty sure the vol down is just wet or dirty and the motherboard of the first HD2 will get the hot air treatment:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982454
Pretty sure, the mainboard won't survive but at least I can replace the flex board which contains the volume "buttons" on the second phone.
My HD2 works just perfect. After WinMo 6.5 and Android I'm now running it using WP7.5. Hardware is doing quite well and it's not fragile at all. I droped it several times (by accident of course) - I think 6 or 7 times in two years - and nothing happend.
Well mabe your cleaning was really a little bit to intense... so... never clean a running system ;-)
If you buy cheap phone on ebay that's what u get and u should pay attention very well to the listing details before u buy and ask the seller. But htc hd 2 is very powerful phone and I dropped mine and still working prefect also some times the roms doesn't work well with some phones for other reasons I still don't know.try as much roms as u can till u get the right one to it

NOPE... just bad luck
It's not a crappy phone, you're just unlucky i think. I've had mine for almost 2 years and it still works perfectly fine. But i sometimes wish i had the t-mobile one. EU doesnt have enough space for sense roms.
Horrible phone! Constantly freezes when receiving text messages, freezes at random times. Makes random calls. Constantly losing 3G. Freezes when I try to unlock the screen.I have had to remove the battery maybe 100 times in the past month. At multiple times it has completely shut down and wouldnt come back on when fully charged.
actually my brother has this phone....but i used it for a month. And my experience was terrible with this phone.Never recommend to anyone!

sounds like ur gettin the old winmo bugs...
try flashing android nand on it... android and hd2 work so well together... i rarely have problems... if ur not after a switch to android id suggest a custom winmo rom... energyrom was my rom of choice...
have mine for over two years now, dropped few times, using original latest eu rom, perfect phone. I love it so much "reason is to do stuff... ), so not switching to newer models with wp7. But today few nokia WP7 phones are comming to my company, so I may switch if these are cool
I have had my HD2 since it was out (2009) and till now... its working perfectly no problems at all =)
Using it over a year, start from wm6.5 then sd android, wp7 and now stick arround with nandroid. This multiOS kind device that makes me last long play with it, i eager to upgrade to latest new phone, but i'll miss a lot of interest and challenging thing then. I only had several awful color stripped on screen, restart phone will cure it and recently i lost sounds, maybe it caused while i drown in the river with my bike while HD2 was on my pocket. I disasemble and clean speaker contact and now my HD2 was rocks just like it does a year ago..

I use my HD2 nearly two years without hardware problems. I dropped it more than once and no damage. Each key still works.
How good it is depends on the ROM you use.
My hd2 went broke after 10 months first the micro USB didn't worked anymore and few days later the back and the answer phone button failed.

The HTC HD2 isn't crap, the amount of "things" you can do on it is just endless, how many phones do you know that has lived for 2/3 or more years is being developed endlessly......

Im on my 3rd, going to the 4th!
Reason(s): Washed Displays, Wifi Busted
I'm on my third MT4G and here's why:
- First one had a loud creaking sound at the bottom, most noticeably when pressing the back button.
- Second one was dropped less than two feet from the ground with the Flex case on it, and the phone's bezel was scratched and misaligned.
5 times
1. change color
2. power button quit working
3. Tried to get a good screen
4. Tried to get a good screen.
5. I got the good screen Happy so far.
this is messed up i bought mine from craigslist brand new and i called tmo try to exchange it they said they wont do it. because i did not buy it from them. the ime number is not in their system what can i do?
Got mine the day it released and still on the same original one. No creaking, good screen, cameras centered.
Knock on wood...
Exchanged once to get a good screen

Just call them up and ask for technical support. Tell them you want to verify the IMEI number is correct in the system so you can get the OTA update. They may not find it in the system but they can manually put it in. I know because I called them 2 days ago and they told me mine was not in the system. She put it in for me manually.
Then you could call them back up and ask them for a replacement as it will be in the system. you don't have to tell them where you bought it.
If you are the very first person to use the phone, warranty will apply to you. If anyone else has used the phone, your screwed because the warranty only applies to them. I'm still in my original one, I see no reason to exchange it, I swear some people just abuse the system. Eventually it'll end up ruining it for the rest of us.

Exchanged once because the phone earpiece made a buzzing noise.
This is my second one. The first device had a dead pixel and everything else was great. The second one has a clean screen but it's the washed one and it creaks from the bottom of the phone, but the most frustrating is the GPS, it's not working , it detects like 10 SATs but never locks the location. Wifi is acting weird too, it tries to connect to the same network like 2 or 3 times before it connects . I don't like to replace phones that often, if I have to replace a phone more than one time it does say something about quality or their quality check process. I mean how hard is it to check the phone for a misplaced FFC (for me I don't care about that ) ? I am done with the phone and I am going to try the NS. I liked the phone, and I can't understand HTC, how can you build such a great phone and forget about such basic quality issues. I think companies try to save on quality tests and throw their production directly to people to work as cheap test engineers. If a company knows that their phones are that good they will not make it that easy to replace the phone for several number of times for the same customer.
First one exchanged because of creaking buttons.
Second one exchanged because of light leak from bottom edge of screen and a gap between the bezel and the body.
I'm on my third one. Build is fine. Battery life is questionable but tolerable. Screen quality is fine for me but pales in comparison to samoled. I'm keeping this one until the next best thing comes around.

if you want quality control Samsung is not the company to go to I had my Vibrant replaced 4 times all had problems right out the box.
first phone GPS all have this problem plus the phone would freeze where I had to take out battery.
second phone a visible line down the screen.
third phone. turned it on and it just started opening apps and settings randomly.
fourth phone no bugs yet but it is rooted with custom rom on it now and my wife uses it I just got the mytouch 4g sick of samsung.
I bought 2 myTouch 4G and exchanged both of them 1 time. One for a bad screen (see this) and the other one for bad color screen.
After reading this thread. I regret selling my Blackberry 9700. That, and the battery life still sucks. Eff you HTC. Make better quality equipment.
Hoping nothing eff's up on my phone. I use it for work, I'm almost regretting paying in full for it as I need a phone that lasts ALL day under email and internet use. IE. 9am-2am.
I'm hoping third time's the charm....
1st: Creaky back button, sucky HSPA+ speeds
2nd: leaking battery acid from battery!
I'm pretty sure this battery was FUBAR out the box. With moderate use its dead by 4pm, even with using task killer. Whats the best/fastest story I can tell tmo for my first exchange? I've had the phone almost 3 weeks. Would the store do the exchange, or do I need to call Tech Support?
1. Phone app kept fcing and acore fcing.
2. Wanting a better screen and where the bottom on the screen meets the buttons. The light was showing theough the seam.
3. Got a chinese phone. All issues resloved. Very happy now.

Well i was 5 days over my 14 day remorse period. just went in and told then i would like an exchange. So if i were u just give it a shot. I got lucky and got a China made MT4G with a superior screen! Dead Centered FFC. All i did is just ask.
My phone: Original. FFC is slightly off, there is a small cosmetic defect around the BFC bezel, and a -very- small chip in the front chrome near the FFC. Annoyed about it, but not enough to swap for a refurb when everything works -great- (S-OFF, rooted no problems, good screen, etc).
Wife's phone: 1st swap. Original one would -not- take S-OFF or root at ALL. It would even take the ENG HBOOT, but still be S-ON! Replacement has been great and went S-OFF easily like mine
We actually swapped my wife's via 611 even though we bought both phones in store. The store was completely useless in help with anything and will never receive my business again! Called 611, 'cancel' at autoprompt to get a retentions person. They suggested the store, we explained what horrible service we've had since they sold us the phones, he chuckled and said ok no problem new phone on the way.
I swapped out my original MT4G with a washed-out display for a replacement unit with a good display.
I was so exited with the nand flashing that I flashed from WM 6.5 to diferend Android roms to WM7 back to android and now my touch screen is not responsive any mores.
Can this be because of nand flashing or is my phone just broken???
Hi,
This has been reported by a few people. It appears to be just a hardware issue and nothing to do with flashing Android.
Some have reported just part of (the bottom part) the screen becoming insensitive. For some it only happens sporadically, for others it is a permanent problem.
I undertsand repairs can be made to the phone, or if you are still within the warranty period... return it once you have removed evidence of your flashing etc.
Good luck
I read some where to downgrade the radio, any info on that??
I haven't read anything about that.
Here are some links of HD2 owners reporting similar problems:

Same thing happened to me, I think its just a coincident. Flashing the radio didn't help. Its on its way back to HTC now. Best posting in the thread below, keep it all in the same place for other users. If the list keeps growing there could be a problem??

Another one for the list - upgrade to Android NAND a few weeks ago . Now the screen is completely not working . Tried several methods ie. Press hard at buttons, etc sometimes OK but now Completely unresponsive. What make it worse is that out of warranty ( bought Aug 2009 ).
How many HD2 have touchscreen problem after Android NAND upgrade ????
seems to be an android issue than anything. could the android color density have anything to do with it?

Just got off the phone with t-mobile and they're replacing my phone which has the same issues.
According to the service tech I spoke to, this is starting to happen to HD2's more frequently (including his own). I'm wondering if Android and the increasing number of people putting Android on their phones has anything to do with it. The service tech I spoke to sounded pretty young, and it wouldn't suprised me if he's tweaked his phone too.
My HD2 gets really hot when using Android....particularly when its booting. Excessive heat wreaks all sorts of havoc on electrical systems/devices, and it wouldn't suprise me if the heat is causing damage to the digitizer (ie melting contact points)
The metal backing and rubber case don't help either.
I'm under warranty so it's not too big of a deal for me, other than the inconvenience. Looks like I'll have to bust out the old iPhone 2g for a week!
I hear ya...
Both on android SD and NAND, i did feel that the phone runs a bit warmer than on winmo. I'm not an expert in android or anything, but does the 16M color on android has something to do with it? I don't know if it's a graphics driver issue or hardware, but something tells me the HD2's stock capacitive screen couldn't handle that much color cramming down it's pipeline.
Hardware issue
I am almost sure that it is a hardware issue because I took a heat gun on low to the front my hd2 (closer to the ADC or "digitzer") around the corner where the red or yellow on/off button is and it fixed the problem for about 4 days till a went to a concert and left the phone in my pocket while I danced and it stopped working again... decided to just give up and got a new one through asurion insurance

The HD2's screen was designed to handle 16M color...the HD2 was designed under the presumption that it would be upgradable to WP7.
I think what's causing a lot of issues are the hacked drivers (including the graphics drivers) needed to run the Android ports. They don't run as efficiently as the stock drivers, consume more battery, and in turn generate more heat.
yup, I totally agree. it's certainly one of the risks of running non-native drivers.
My touch screen started to play up last week - wouldnt unlock via the slider on a flashed Android rom. Reflashed the phone thinking it would cure it, but it didn't. Reformatted the card, and then flashed a different Android rom. Worked for a few minutes, then stuck. Reflashed a WM rom, and the touch screen gave up altogether. Left it a day, and it worked, but when I switched the phone off, and back on, it wouldn't.
Phone was 2 days outside of the Tmobile warranty, but I've sent it back to them as the HTC phones in Europe are covered by a two year warranty....
I have nothing to lose anyway!
mine to, had to hard reset 4 times. then i hard reset did not touch the screen until the next morning and it seems to have fixed it
same problem, after flash android nand,2 week ago,now touch screen is broken
its been 4 months i am going through this this problem. Heating the screen is the best solution. But i founf WM rom which likely is fixing the problem. It happens because of andriod and i am pretty sure about it as i have done thousands of experiments on it. Now in background i run that WM rom and then andriod and never faced any problem.
HD2 touch screen not responding
I am using HTC HD2 since last 1 year..Its out of warranty right now & I recently flashed "ANDROI_PPC-SHIFTPDA_GingerBread_2.3.2_WP7S_V1_NAND_(07.Feb)" & it was all working fine unless yesterday when my 7 months old labrador chew the top right corner of my phone while it was in d cover..Got a slight crack in the glas/lcd..However it is still functional..I mean no color spill or abnormal behaviour in terms of display..except the touch screen has stopped working now..I've tried hard reset..soft reset several times but it doesn't seem to be working...Its driving me insane & I dont know what to do as my phone is out of warrranty...I remember I had a TyTN II 2-3 years ago & got its lcd split/broken somehows & HTC service center charged me INR 4000 / USD $88 to replace it...Though times have changed & HD2 definitely is a much complex device comparatively..So would cost me much more if i give it to them...Just went thru a video on youtube "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdihThJFyz4" in which tutorial for HTC leo's screen & digitizer replacement is mentioned. Im really not sure where the problem lies. Because it was perfectly fine till yesterday before i woke up this morning & realized that my dog has done a lil munching on my HD2..Any suggestions ???
I'm glad to hear that it's not just my phone...
I upgraded to nand aswell and it worked perfectly ever since the first android upgrades came out.. Then about a week ago my screen started messing with me.. Sometimes the lockscreen didn't respond at all, and then it would require like 3-4 reboots before it did? Suddenly one day it stopped working, I did a hard reset and it worked for half a day. Now it's totally nonresponding and I'm going to send it to the repaircenter.... I asked them if messing with the software was a problem, but he said that it didn't matter and that I shouldn't bother to reset the software.. It didn't void the warranty in any way.
So this morning was casually playing bubble jump on WP7 and all of the sudden backlight went off on lcd and the camera flash started going rampant.
hardware buttons wont work and a distinct sizzling sound and a giant pop then came from it before it became completely inoperable.
i left it for a day and the screen turns on but no light and the battery is still amazingly working.
any ideas what the problem might be, I've sent it back now just curios on people's thoughts.
to not confuse anyone it poped again which then made the device inoperable, forgot to mention that *hits head*

its the HTC auto destruct sequence. It has detected that you have enough money saved up for a new phone, has reported this fact to HTC and they have sent the kill signal. You should start recieving phone ad emails from them any time soon.

If you can get to the bootloader (even if you can not see the screen) task 29 and reflash original Win 6.5 ROM. By doing that you can eliminate software and, if you have warranty or insurance, exercise that.
I could not possibly suggest that now is a time to get insurance and, having waited a significant time period, drop the HD2 from a great height.

hey, couldn't boot in to spl due to the pop, i think that ultimately killed the whole system as non of my spare batteries work nor does the charger, the insurance i have on it accepted it fine and have told me i should expect a replacement in about a week.
I am very pleased that you have insurance then and will not be without your beloved HD2.
If no charge is a secondary problem then an interesting test was whether or not you could access the bootloader whilst external power is applied - in this Maglr world I believe that you can trickle charge through that method. You probably did that which I think confirmed a major hardware problem (check battery terminal pins though).
I hope it arrives quickly for you.

well from what i could tell the pins were all still in tact and before the pop, the charger worked on it. seemed very odd why it would just do that, but I'm no electrician. thanks for the replys guys =)
So, today I dropped my dhd.... literally 3 feet, nothing crazy..... and it has a full body invisible shield and an otterbox case.... it did land on a corner, wood floor.... now, when I go to wake the phone up.... it turns on. It is randomly powering off since the very, gentle fall.....
It does not make a lot of sense, any thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

try taking out your cards and battery, the drop may have un seated them
first thing I tried.... clips look good, battery looks good, phone looks great.... when I put in my second battery... it seemed to be running well, until 6 minutes ago, when I pressed the power button... silly phone was off again.
I powered down, ejected all 3 items, placed them all back in.... it was such a harmless fall, with a full protected phone....
sounds like something may have become loose, i sense a rma back to htc if a full wipe etc dosnt solve it
not 100% sure, but after pushing the sim card out and in again... has not happened since.... I hope as heck it is ok, such a simple drop, heh!
thx
I'ved dropped my phone like a thousand times but nothing like this has happend too me!
I think HTC will replace on you warranty for this... Ask them!
sim card not making connections properlly will cause the phone to reboot, as i found out when i first got my desire hd, my 15 year old simcard was too worn to make a clean connection. once i went down to the tmobile shop they descovered it was that at fault after i said the phone was knackard.
simcards will compress very slightly over its life causing poorer connections.
if the problem has now dissapeared it may be worth your while getting a new sim if it is of age.

Yep, t-mobile has always been good to me (actually the card was 121 printed on it).
Hello guys,
Funny thing, I gave my dad a DHD to play around with (hoping that he will finally get rid of his BB), just a few days ago in his office he mistakingly dropped it 7 floors down to the parking lot.
Amazing, just amazing, except a few bumps here and there, a cracked Sim cover and a bit broken battery cover, the DHD came back to working without and problem.
I am sure if it did not happen to me I would have been sceptic, but IT REALLY HAPPENED.
Thumbs up htc for a strong unit.
I dropped mine from my pocket and nothing happened, not even a scratch.
I'm gonna report an incident I've reported again in the forums.
When I first got my DHD,about one week if I remember well,I went for a drink with some friends. Before we went to the pub we usually go to,we wanted to eat something,so we went to this fast food. While we were waiting for our food,we were saying the usual bull**** we always say with the guys.Sometimes though we tend to pull the strings, and I told one of them off badly,so he decided to punch my leg.Unfortunately, with his full strength, his fist landed on my new, shiny and unprotected DHD,which was in my pocket. As soon as I realised it,my heart went at the kidney's place, the kidney went at my stomach's place and my stomach went all the way to my head out fear!
Next day?My DHD was like nothing happened and my pal's hand was almost broken.
Yep,thumbs up HTC!
yea, it was pretty weird and once in a while... I hit the power button and it is OFF again, not rebooting... off, hitting the wake button turns it back on.... might be software etc....
but on that day, it was happening every 2o minutes, lol
I love htcs design.
soooo my touch screen went out about two days ago. not all the way out, just stop recognizing some touches. heavily dependent on which button i used to wake the device. (running MIUI android)
this will be my fourth tmous hd2.. if i want to pay the $130 for a replacement one because my warranty won't cover it because the water damage sticker is pink. even though the phone has never even seen water.
The first hd2 i had, digitizer went out, the replacement wouldn't even get passed the stick together screen on first startup. so i had to send that back and get a new one. I'm not too sure how badly i want to pay the 130 because it's a known problem on the HD2s and the sticker could have turned from someone breathing on it heavily.
I'm thinkin of maaaaybee getting the sensation in a month or so. but since i'm using a sidekick until then, i'm not sure if i can do it lol. it has an astounding battery life of just over an hour.
anyways, that was my rant about HD2s and stupid warranty/insurance stuff.
i am not sure if it's the usage that people give to MO phones, or if it's just bad luck. I've bought mine used, 6months old "as new", and it runs in perfect order, with no problems at all. (lucky i guess)
well the first one i had for i'd say 8 months.
and then this one for about seven.
but i remember reading a thread a while back about cleaning the connection from behind the end button and it helped the problem but i can't find the thread now.
