And we care why?
Without all the stock apps on the phone you can't get the Gingerbread update. That's why.

People always complain about Motorola/Verizon bloat. So I thought I'd document it somewhere, for the record.
I was hoping someone with an HTC Incredible or Thunderbolt would post their list of standard/stock preinstalled apps, so that we can compare the Motorola vs HTC bloat factor

I updated my Droid X to Android 2.3 GingerBread this morning.
Still 46 apps, but some apps from Android 2.2 are not showing up in the listing (eg. "3G Mobile Hotspot") for some reason, and some new apps.

I believe that in Gingerbread the 3G Mobile Hotspot is integrated into Settings.APK, or some other system APK.

And Google is forcing their "Books" app on everyone now.
Are they trying to take some market share from Amazon Kindle?

Not all of these are bloat. Market? Camera? How about list all non-essential bloatware.

If you are rooted, then you can just flash on the newer libs and GTalk app versions.
That said, currently the _ONLY_ phones with the new GTalk with Video are the Nexus S and Nexus S 4G. _NO OTHER PHONES HAVE IT_ Everybody else who has it either had it built into their custom ROM or GApps builds, or they flashed it on themselves.
So if you are waiting for it to show up on a stock update, be prepared to wait a long time.

Not sure if Paul has fixed the GTalk Video app he supplied for the Play and others, the changes it makes to build.prop killed some of the apps on my handset. had to restore to get them working again.
make sure you have a full back up before running it!

Netflix updated there app and now most galaxy s phones are on the list of working except vibrant and captivate has anybody try to log in and worked?? On stock froyo
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It's silently crashing on me right after entering my email/password. I am rooted so that may have something to do with it.
Same here.. I'm sure someone with a little extra time on their hands and experience can get it working on stock froyo if it's working on the other galaxy s variants, right?

Same here. Not rooted.

I was excited to see Netflix appear in market on my 2.2.1 rooted vibrant marked as GT-I9000. But on installing no different from the previous apk i had that is floating around in the internet - crash after login. I doubt if it is a root issue as many are running the market version on rooted GB roms, CM7 and such. May be netflix really need to add support for froyo vibrant ROMs. Bummer!
I had the Netflix app up and running with a Cyanogen build. You won't get it running on Froyo - fuggeddaboudit.
I am told that Cyanogen now has a working GPS, so I may grab that. I only ran it for the day and didn't watch a full episode on Netflix; just tried it out and split.
BUT I can confirm that it was really and truly running, letting me check my queue, and streaming. Coolio.
(PS, rooting has nothing to do with it. It just won't work on Froyo. Get a 2.3 build and it should be just fine.)
Working for me
Cm7
ok someone over at the Epic4G forum noticed that the description and newly added support for galaxy S devices is for version 1.3 but market still has 1.2 for download. Hopefully we will soon have an update to 1.3 working on froyo.
App ver 1.3 working on stock KB5. Color me shocked.
Just got a market update and STREAMING working now on FROYO...YAAAYYYYY!!!
Update to the app has been released and it is working.
Stock 2.2

Works for me also on stock Froyo now. The description must have been updated before the updated app was available. Glad to finally have streaming!
After new update Netflix works on virbtant and it looks great

After installing cm7 there is few apps that were gone from the store. Like whatsapp and Skype are no where to be found. Anyone else had this issue?
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G MB860 using XDA Premium App
You are of course referring to the alpha "pre-beta" build right? Have you tried ownloading those apps and installing them dirctly?
This happened to me with Whatsapp so I went to the official site and downloaded the apk. This fixed it, although the disappearance is puzzling.
its the way the market is reading the device ID. the apps aren't recognizing the phone as a compatible device.

Yep. It's a combination of device/android version and or firmware.
The market sees you're on 2.3.5 and through some logic deems you incompatible if for instance they only know compatibility goes up to 2.3.4 .
Makes sense guys thanks. Got the APk for whatsapp, did not find Skype yet.
Anyone know where I can find a swipe keyboard for this?

Have never used it...I believe you can call a person with the same device..while on the call..you both hit the chat an whola...I could be wrong...sounds good though
Anyone..rebuttal?
I have that option as well. Doesn't work for me. I've only tried calling through a few different carriers, one AT&T (stock GS3) the other being Verizon (HTC DNA, custom ROM unknown which one). Both failed to call after what seemed like an attempt. I'm on Golden Eye 3.0 with KT kernel.

My best guess is it is the SAME as when I ran custom ROMs on previous Galaxy Series phones with ported from international series firmware. We would have the video call button but ATT doesn't allow video calling so it never worked. It is something that ATT blocks so it will never work. You can find threads in the Galaxy S2 I777 threads and Galaxy S1 Captivate threads on how to remove the video call icon from the .apk's and resize the layout so it doesn't have the icons out of shape/place. Unfortunately until ATT let's us call over data it will never work.

Unfortunately since it is NOT built into our phones firmware automatically (removed/changed thanks to ATT firmware) we could not use the same tactics the iPhone people used and have it cleared for use.
But there are other apps that we can use from the play store and have video over cellular signal. But the catch is you have to be rooted and use something like gTalk enabler or change a setting in the build.prop for it to work. You can try apps like Google Talk/Hangouts, Skype, Tango for video calling over the cell signal. I have used Google Talk and Tango.
