And we care why?

Without all the stock apps on the phone you can't get the Gingerbread update. That's why.

Ah. I understand now. Thank you for posting that

People always complain about Motorola/Verizon bloat. So I thought I'd document it somewhere, for the record.
I was hoping someone with an HTC Incredible or Thunderbolt would post their list of standard/stock preinstalled apps, so that we can compare the Motorola vs HTC bloat factor

I updated my Droid X to Android 2.3 GingerBread this morning.
Still 46 apps, but some apps from Android 2.2 are not showing up in the listing (eg. "3G Mobile Hotspot") for some reason, and some new apps.

I believe that in Gingerbread the 3G Mobile Hotspot is integrated into Settings.APK, or some other system APK.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

And Google is forcing their "Books" app on everyone now.
Are they trying to take some market share from Amazon Kindle?
Sent from my unrooted DroidX using XDA App

Not all of these are bloat. Market? Camera? How about list all non-essential bloatware.

There is a thread in the Development section that outlines this, link is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818789
It uses QPST to edit the encoded information in phone.
I would like to add, for must have apps, Loot is the best free checkbook type app I've found. Also, if you've rooted, Adfree is a MUST, as is AutoKiller. I've saved a ton of money using the Coupon App. Youtube ripper is great for saving vids to phone, subsonic lets you tap your home music resources from phone, ROM Buddy is great for your emulator needs. And, MP3 Download is great for on the fly music downloads.
I installed Launcher Pro but it wouldn't open. I am rooted and not sure what the &#[email protected] I have done to my phone.

Stock Social Networking App question

I was planning on removing the app "Social Networking" bc I use Tweetdeck. However, I was wondering if it messes up the "Messaging" app since Social Networking seems to be tied into it. Please help!
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I am also curious about this. I'm not sure but it seems that the social networking app is always using my gps and it drives me crazy. I could leave the gps on with my droid but now since having a dx I have to manually turn it off or it constantly is on sucking my battery dry.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Well, I just pulled the trigger last night and uninstalled it. It seems to be okay thusfar. Still, if you or anyone else here's of complications this may cause, please let me know. Thanks! (btw, I just installed Root Explorer last night and I've decided from here on out that I'm going to rename files now instead of uninstalling them).
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I never used the Social Networking app either so I just froze it with Titanium as well as the stock Messaging app since I use Handcent. No problems so far since they're just system applications that can be replaced with third party apps.
I thought that if you froze the stock messaging app that your mms messages wouldn't work...
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
It wasn't the stock messaging app that I uninstalled. It was the Social Networking app.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I froze both and everything seems to work just fine. Haven't tried mms yet though so I'll have to get back to you on that one.

New Market Roll Out

Like whoa, looks nice. Explains why my phone was showing the GPS icon this morning even though I had no apps open, lol. Sucks though because it auto updated my Skype from VZW.
Anyone know how I can get that out of My Apps since I use the real Skype app? Its irritating to always see it needed an update even though my other Skype app is up to date.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
If you're rooted you can move the Skype apk to another directory, rename it, or freeze it.
Titanium backup pro (if you are rooted, you should have this app) can freeze, remove, rename bloat.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I second Titanium Pro if rooted, super simple.
For some reason with the new market I can't buy apparently that cost $$
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Anyone else notice that they can only DL or update 1 app at a time on wifi and 3g. In the past i could have multiple downloads going instead of them being queued. Strange, guess it keeps the market more stable.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah, I noticed that
DROID X running liberty GB V.8
Anyone else notice that no app screenshots appear? I just get an error on the screenshots and the Retry button does nothing.

Cm7 app issues

After installing cm7 there is few apps that were gone from the store. Like whatsapp and Skype are no where to be found. Anyone else had this issue?
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G MB860 using XDA Premium App
You are of course referring to the alpha "pre-beta" build right? Have you tried ownloading those apps and installing them dirctly?
This happened to me with Whatsapp so I went to the official site and downloaded the apk. This fixed it, although the disappearance is puzzling.
its the way the market is reading the device ID. the apps aren't recognizing the phone as a compatible device.

Yep. It's a combination of device/android version and or firmware.
The market sees you're on 2.3.5 and through some logic deems you incompatible if for instance they only know compatibility goes up to 2.3.4 .
Makes sense guys thanks. Got the APk for whatsapp, did not find Skype yet.
Anyone know where I can find a swipe keyboard for this?

Using Google Hangouts on One with Bloatware

I guess some of you noticed that google just updated Google Talk to replace it with Hangouts. A nice WhatsApp Clone with some beautiful features. I guess cross platform chat (Phone <> PC) is the most interesting part.
If you are an owner of an One which has Google Talk preinstalled as bloatware there is no chance to update this via Google Play unless HTC delivers an update. Too bad we're not able to uninstall bloatware / preinstalled stuff on non rooted devices...
But if you open the Play Store via browser on your computer to instruct it to install Hangouts on your phone, it will overwrite the Google Talk and you're able to use the new Hangouts app

That's what I did myself I wondered why it wouldn't update
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
I really wish they integrated it with sms/mms app like Facebook Messaging can do... or just made it like iMessage. But I'm happy for the upgrade.
It might not be showing up for folks because it is probably still replicating across the Play servers.
UI Layour is quite nice, hope it gets popular, but i really wanted that it could send sms , like imessage , or sms atleast so i can use that app for all.
edit.

I just got the phone today , it wouldnt let me install from Play store on the phone , it just gives me an option to open.
i went to play store on my pc and was able to install it from there on my phone and it replaced my talk app and it seems to work fine.
I opened a thread like this, Hangouts, with how to install and other stuff.
I saw this thread after.
Sorry
What I did was uninstall Google talk with titanium backup and then just install hangouts from the store later
