So I bought a 4GB stick of SODIMM DDR2 ram from NewEgg and put it into my Dell Vostro 1520 laptop (which is running the Windows8 dev preview) and it boots up and runs just fine. I look under System in the Control Panel and it says under Installed Memory (RAM): "6.00GB (2.96 usable)" Why is it only allowing me to use roughly 3 gigs while I have 6 installed. I ran a test program and it said that my motherboard supports up to 8 gigs of ram, so I am a little confused. What can I do to allow all 6 gigs to be used? Thanks in advance
If your using a 32bit version of windows (x86). You can only access a maximum or 3gb of ram. To access all your ram you need to install a 64bit version of windows (x64).

It depends on your processor.Almost every processors after dual core supports 64-bit architecture.Since you have 2nd gen. Intel processor you can install x64 oss.

You don't have to, its just a good idea just incase anything bad happens. Like choosing the wrong partition.

I have an Acer Aspire 5738G with an intel core 2 duo and 4gb ram, I only have a 250gb HDD (I have a 1TB USB HDD for my music and video's ect)
anyway i partitioned 60gb for windows developer preview, and it works great, obviously a little slower than WIN7 because its pre beta.
You get a posh new boot option screen to dual boot too

Make sure you install windows 8 dev pre from boot to get dual boot, otherwise the installation will install over the existing operating system.

Yep, if it says so during boot
It decided to hijack the Win7 bootloader on my system and erased the option to boot into both Win7 and Linux.
I was really wanting to like it but as usual Microsoft always finds a way to piss me off. Plus they still managed to find a way to make it even less intuitive than before. eg. they added an extra two steps before you can even restart the computer
But anyways, it's formatted now and I don't plan on reinstalling it anytime soon...

And whatever you do, make sure you pick the new empty partition you created and go for clean install. NOT upgrade
Disregard, making own thread.

I'm trying to compile Omni on a 32 bit Linux system, using the procedure given here: http://docs.omnirom.org/Build_for_i9300. However, the binaries in the directory
~/android/omni/prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/arm/arm-linux-androideabi-4.7/bin/
are 64 bit binaries, and I have a 32 bit system. Are these binaries available in 32 bit versions? And if so, how do I download them into my ~/android/omni directory?
Thanks!
AFAIK you cannot compile Android on 32-bit systems.

32 bit systems have not been supported as a build host by Android for a LONG time.
Drat! Oh well... my options for compiling my own mods will have to wait until I either upgrade my system (dunno even if a have a 64-bit chip), or my computer.
Thanks for your replies.

Hi, I struggled with this a year ago and managed to set up a 4.6 compiler for a 32bit machine to build cyanogenmod using
Code:
https://github.com/yath/android_prebuilts_gcc_linux-x86-32_arm_arm-linux-androideabi-4.6
Its not 4.7, and as stated above, its not supported. It worked ok for me for jellybean but not tried it recently as I have a 64bit machine now.

I've not been able to get any currentish Linux kernel to boot on my 7130 without disabling modesetting/acceleration or using an external display. Bluestacks is rubbish.
In theory, anything should run on it - it's all standard Haswell hardware and it has 64-bit UEFI and a CSM should you need it. But this kernel/i915 bug is a killer for actually using it with Linux-based OSes right now.
If I want to sideload an APK which version APK do I use for this tablet? I have gone to an APKmirror website and I see if i find an APK there are different types to download. I do not know which type architecture of APK I should download for this Fire tablet.
These are the types of APK architecture.

HD 10 2019 have 64-bit CPU, you may try to install arm64-v8a, if application does not work - install v7a version.
A53/A73 are V8 arch

In short: arm64-v8a. The 9th gen HD 10 uses a big.LITTLE 4+4 config of Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A57, both use Armv8A arch.
FYI:
armeabi-v7a: Arm's Armv7 arch, latest 32 bit arch.
arm64-v8a: Armv8 arch, 64 bit.
x86: Intel's 32 bit arch
x86_64: 64 bit x86
And the winner is?
I was just curious as to which version you got to work with your unit. Thank you.

I think i know how it works, just like with Fire HD8, the CPU is set to work in 32 bit only, that means we can't really use Armv8 apps and we have to use armeabi-v7a. That's my opinion which may be false considering that i don't really own HD10

Thanks, it's very simple to test, download any ARMv8 only app and see if it gives any errors during installation, if it will give somethin like this: "This app can not be installed on your Tablet", that means my thoughts are correct and we van only use armeabi-v7a apps

I see thank you for the guidance @Xinto
so whats the workaround or how do we go about installed 64bit apps because some dont have the 32bit variant
Per my earlier post - should the google service apk's be able to update themselves once installed or do they need to be manually updated via the tool? I get the notification on the tablet that they need to be updated or google services won't work. (essentially) If it matters, it's on a 10th gen HD 8.
Thx
