I've not been able to get any currentish Linux kernel to boot on my 7130 without disabling modesetting/acceleration or using an external display. Bluestacks is rubbish.
In theory, anything should run on it - it's all standard Haswell hardware and it has 64-bit UEFI and a CSM should you need it. But this kernel/i915 bug is a killer for actually using it with Linux-based OSes right now.

"[Q] Droid 2 Users using 32-bit(x86) or 64-bit?"
I'm trying to develop something that will help droid2 users but I need to know whether most people use a 32-bit OS or have a 64-bit OS. This way I can help the most people by starting on the one with the most users. Thanks for your input.
This is for any OS Windows or Mac or Linux.

If you have a 64bit you can run x86 so why not just make that version. <-- Windows at least
Anyways, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I thought about starting with that but because I'm running a 64-bit OS aswell I have to make the 32-bit product on a 32-bit OS so I'd have to do tweak it a little bit and was hoping most people were using 64-bit.
that makes sense.
32 bit is always the safest route to take because of the backwards compatibility of 64 bit OS with 32 bit executables. You are going to have to make that call though. If you want to reach the most people though, I would say 32 bit.

Can you shed some light on what you are creating? I am interested in this project. I can also host it for you if needed.
lol it has to do with linux and that's all I'll put out right now but I'll update as soon as I get further into it. This was going to be my test post because I want to start making it I just needed so guidance as to where to start.
That would be awesome if you could host (I'm new to dev stuff and was gonna ask for some help getting it out there).
not a problem. just let me know when you need it. I am currently working on acquiring a new domain so that it will host droid2 files and we can grow this section of the forums because the Droid 2 is lacking in the dev department lol
I'm new to d2 but facelessuser makes a good point. I'm intrigued...

This is just a heads up post
I'm almost done making a custom ubuntu 10.04.1.iso with adb and the sbf_flash script for linux install this will allow anyone to flash their phone in linux as it's a live cd and will be booted from the disk tray for a single session. No windows driver problems or RSDlite errors.
(it's in x86 if you were wondering; which was the main reason it's not already posted.)
So I bought a 4GB stick of SODIMM DDR2 ram from NewEgg and put it into my Dell Vostro 1520 laptop (which is running the Windows8 dev preview) and it boots up and runs just fine. I look under System in the Control Panel and it says under Installed Memory (RAM): "6.00GB (2.96 usable)" Why is it only allowing me to use roughly 3 gigs while I have 6 installed. I ran a test program and it said that my motherboard supports up to 8 gigs of ram, so I am a little confused. What can I do to allow all 6 gigs to be used? Thanks in advance
If your using a 32bit version of windows (x86). You can only access a maximum or 3gb of ram. To access all your ram you need to install a 64bit version of windows (x64).

It depends on your processor.Almost every processors after dual core supports 64-bit architecture.Since you have 2nd gen. Intel processor you can install x64 oss.

Windows: No.
Linux: Maybe. Android is kind of Linux.

Ive got a 4g upgraded 32gb Xoom. i saw that it is possible to run linux on the tablet but i had a few questions. i know i have to be rooted (i have a droid x that i rooted) but once i do that, is it still possible to run the android o.s. also? can i choose which to boot in? also how reliable is it on a tablet and is it worth it? Thanks!
You have vastly misunderstood the Linux on Android concept.
You download the Linux image to your tablet. While Android is running, you execute a script that then "boots" the Linux image. You can then access it via terminal or VNC. You aren't natively running Linux.

Hi,
Im also interested in linux on xoom, opensuse for example ...
i ve seen backtrack running on xoom but like it was mentioned b4 its only a image or accessed via VNC but whats the point running backtrack linux if network card is not supported....
Any way if you ve heard of any linux concept since just let us know
Surely it must be possible if the advent vega can handle it!

this has already been done. try search....

try Linux Installer from the google play store. its a very nice app and free, allows you to setup linux in a chrooted environment. i also have tried the paid ubuntu installer app but not as many options. there is a way to run it outside of android as well, but im not planning on ever doing this, not at least until ubuntu makes a touch tablet input feature
I tried to install an application for a raspberry pi on my nexus 7. I extracted it, but when I tried to run it, it failed with:
No such file or directory
Any solutions?
Sounds like it is meant to be run on the pi. Not the Nexus 7.

you can't just arbitrarily run any application. it needs to be an android app.

What he said, and usually the system says that when the file is not marked as an executable.
Even if the binary was designed to run on ARM-based processors, it needs to be compiled for that operating system.
For example you cannot take a console binary made for Mac OSX (identifier Mach-O), and run it on a FreeBSD system even though OSX was originally based on FreeBSD4 (much the same as how Android was originally based on linux variations, and is still technically linux, but technically not).
I mean unless someone wants to write some kind of binary compatibility setup, much like how I can run *some* linux binaries on FreeBSD using the Linux Binary Compatibility port. But out of the box, not going to happen unless it was written for Android.
PS: Easier Analogy... trying to run a windows EXE on Android.
So how do I install the proper libraries? My device has the stock rom and it is rooted.
You learn how to code and port it.

Wtf? You should read up on how applications work. Installing libraries is the least of your concerns. If the application had not been compiled to run on android it won't run. Period. Its not a difficult concept to comprehend.

Doesn't work that way, differnet binary code won't run on a system it's not compiled for, choice is to recode I yourself or hope someone has a battery sucking emulator for android.
