Windows: No.
Linux: Maybe. Android is kind of Linux.

"[Q] Droid 2 Users using 32-bit(x86) or 64-bit?"
I'm trying to develop something that will help droid2 users but I need to know whether most people use a 32-bit OS or have a 64-bit OS. This way I can help the most people by starting on the one with the most users. Thanks for your input.
This is for any OS Windows or Mac or Linux.
MODERATOR: Please Close and Remove This Thread, Thanks!
If you have a 64bit you can run x86 so why not just make that version. <-- Windows at least
Anyways, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I thought about starting with that but because I'm running a 64-bit OS aswell I have to make the 32-bit product on a 32-bit OS so I'd have to do tweak it a little bit and was hoping most people were using 64-bit.
that makes sense.
32 bit is always the safest route to take because of the backwards compatibility of 64 bit OS with 32 bit executables. You are going to have to make that call though. If you want to reach the most people though, I would say 32 bit.

Can you shed some light on what you are creating? I am interested in this project. I can also host it for you if needed.
lol it has to do with linux and that's all I'll put out right now but I'll update as soon as I get further into it. This was going to be my test post because I want to start making it I just needed so guidance as to where to start.
That would be awesome if you could host (I'm new to dev stuff and was gonna ask for some help getting it out there).
not a problem. just let me know when you need it. I am currently working on acquiring a new domain so that it will host droid2 files and we can grow this section of the forums because the Droid 2 is lacking in the dev department lol
I'm new to d2 but facelessuser makes a good point. I'm intrigued...

This is just a heads up post
I'm almost done making a custom ubuntu 10.04.1.iso with adb and the sbf_flash script for linux install this will allow anyone to flash their phone in linux as it's a live cd and will be booted from the disk tray for a single session. No windows driver problems or RSDlite errors.
(it's in x86 if you were wondering; which was the main reason it's not already posted.)
I've found http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu-mobile/releases/11.04/release/
and also many other distibutions such as Arch, OpenBSD supporting ARM architecture. Is it available to make it work as replacement for android to have other linux?
Theres app in android market to install Debian or Ubuntu called Linux Installer.
Maybe this one will help? So far I have 2gb sdcard and its filled with data so can't tesy unless I make a copy.

Ive got a 4g upgraded 32gb Xoom. i saw that it is possible to run linux on the tablet but i had a few questions. i know i have to be rooted (i have a droid x that i rooted) but once i do that, is it still possible to run the android o.s. also? can i choose which to boot in? also how reliable is it on a tablet and is it worth it? Thanks!
You have vastly misunderstood the Linux on Android concept.
You download the Linux image to your tablet. While Android is running, you execute a script that then "boots" the Linux image. You can then access it via terminal or VNC. You aren't natively running Linux.

i ve seen backtrack running on xoom but like it was mentioned b4 its only a image or accessed via VNC but whats the point running backtrack linux if network card is not supported....
Any way if you ve heard of any linux concept since just let us know
Surely it must be possible if the advent vega can handle it!

try Linux Installer from the google play store. its a very nice app and free, allows you to setup linux in a chrooted environment. i also have tried the paid ubuntu installer app but not as many options. there is a way to run it outside of android as well, but im not planning on ever doing this, not at least until ubuntu makes a touch tablet input feature
Why linux doesn't take a new step to run all exe files (for small and big software)
?
We all knw that linux is best os but if it can run all windows apps , it leads the window nd bcom a alone king in os market.

Seems linux is not the best os if it cannot even open exe files

gr8 idea! we shall drop this pathetic posix thing and forget fhs to be able to run all kind of viruses, malwares, trojans, etc.

Linux running exe files would ultimately defeat the purpose of using the os in the first place. Linux is a secure operating system because it does not open those files. If every thing you need is an exe, use Windows...

Uh.... what in the world?
haha nice joke..one of the things that make Linux better OS than Windows is the fact that it doesn't open .exe files.

Lolz do you really think that Linux is secure because we can't run exe file there ?
It is just secure because linux has less users than windows and also it's users are smart enough to differentiate between virus and normal app.
Ok let's take a example of most used linux based mobile O.S, off-course that is Android , Now please tell me android don't have virus ??
I think there are lots of viruses for android and it just because there are lots of android users, offcourse more than IOS.
See here famous buffercode.in/stagefright-2-0-fixed-google-released-an-ota-for-nexus-devices/StageFright bug in Android , for which there are already lots of viruses.

I wrote best not excellent . It can't run exe doesn't mean that it is not best, even window can't run .sh, both have different architecture. There is always room for improvement even in best product. Best is always considered relatively . And yaa you can manage to run exe through wine in Linux wwithout any security flaw.
Hello
i need install android system on my tablet dell venue pro11 i5 8g,256ssd.

I've heard the best way to enjoy android apps on the 11 Pro is Bluestacks

I've not been able to get any currentish Linux kernel to boot on my 7130 without disabling modesetting/acceleration or using an external display. Bluestacks is rubbish.
In theory, anything should run on it - it's all standard Haswell hardware and it has 64-bit UEFI and a CSM should you need it. But this kernel/i915 bug is a killer for actually using it with Linux-based OSes right now.
