Why do sites like Engadget, Slashgear, GSMarena and many others produce such positive reviews of the Note where they don't find the huge amount of faults users are finding here? With the huge amount of faults discovered here you would think it impossible for anyone to miss them and produce a positive review. Could it be that all the reviewers were very lucky like me and all received phones without the faults?

Could be a lot of reasons but what I can think about is they could have received a cherry picked unit, could be a pre-mass production unit with really high quality control, could be "forced" to publish favorable reviews so that companies keep sending them review units or just plain lucky.
They seldom publish unit flaws to keep their site favorable to manufacturers.

Relatively speaking the phone is brilliant. Have you used the myriad of garbage phones out there lately?

Takes time to find these faults. Reviews are usually done afer using the phone for several days, maybe a week. They usually keep the phones stock, people here on XDA push the phones to their limit - that reveals all faults.

What "huge amount of faults"? From what I see here, most everyone is very happy with the device. Like anything, once you've had something for a while you can find something to nit-pick about, but I definitely don't perceive the consensus here to be that it has a relatively large amount of problems.

correct there. you dont see problems unless youve had more exposure to the device.
plus, which company would not be silly enough to cherry pick devices before submitting for reviews. think about it. theyre trying to promote their device well because they know that people trust certain reviewers. so it would be silly of them if they didnt cherry pick devices to submit for review. very few of the professional reviewers actually purchase the device to review.
This is a user forum, more people come here for help than to prise their phone, did you expect anything different?
I've not seen any major hardware problems or long posts of people retuning their phones. So can you enlighten us what huge amount of faults the Note has?
Also most review sites only test phones for a short time unlike us owners, plus they mainly test the stock apps came with the phone and not a wide range of apps the forum members downloaded on their phones. Put those two factors together, of course we will find more issues than they do.
Having owned about 35 mobile phones, i can say they all have faults.
But I've not had any issues with my Note and i'm very very pleased with it.

I still don't see many (much less a majority) of threads about "faulty phones". But it sounds like the issue here is not so much the phone, but rather your inexperience with the nature of user forums.
I dont see any major faults on the unit, mine has some minor flaws on the screen, the lower 1/4 renders greys with a greenish tint.. a small portion of the right side and top shows a pinkish glow in certain shades of grey (very visible on the stock keyboard and market app) not a huge issue for me to return the device and I just hope it wont get worse.
I had a very bad experience with the Galaxy S2 in terms of the screen. I also understand that not everyone is affected by the screen issue, its a panel lottery out there.
I understand that no phone is perfect ( or screen for that matter ) but my experience with the Samsung Wave and Galaxy S1 screens was extremely above expectation, the S2 didnt remotely reach the expectation the note is meeting the expectation.
As much as I love my GN, I can't say it's not without it's faults. The camera has a pink spot in the center, and focusing is a issue at times. The audio chipset is severely lacking, and is inferior compared to the SGS. Even though it has a faster dual core processor, lag is apparent more often than not.
While these issues haven't convinced me that I should return the unit, I think they can be addressed in the next version (hopefully in a year).
Early adopters usually find the goofs...even the vaunted iJunk has had release flaws.

I haven't noticed any bugs or faults on my Note, so to come to the conclusion that the Note is a faulty device is utter bull****. Of course some devices will have software and hardware defects, but that happens to everything like cars, computers, and even humans. No one and nothing is perfect.

WHAT defects? I don't have any defects, but if your device has any defects then go to the store where you bought it and do something about it. And don't just assume that since your device has defects that EVERY device has it.

The problem is every smartphone doesn't have this many flaws.
And those numbers aren't even comparable to the iPhone seeing as how Galaxy S is on every major carrier and iPhone is on line 1-3 (if you count Europe, etc.).
What problems? Personal taste is not considered a problem.

So they didnt rate the iphone 4 because of antenna issues? That is rediculous. I mean I would shoot myself before using an iphone BUT that issue is just as bad on my vibrant. I mean, I love my vibrant but it has far more "Issues" than the iphone 4 and im not affraid of admiting that. However.... I think it was because your comment sounded like nothing but troll speak.
And honestly, how many problems does the Vibrant really have?
I can think of 2. Slightly laggy from time to time, and the GPS issue which has been resolved, granted it is still slightly slower then some GPS's on phones, but still fast and accurate now. Am I missing anything.
Personally, neither of these two are even close to as large as the main function of a phone, being a phone call, having a serious flaw just because of the way you may hold your phone.
I agree with consumer reports regarding this as it is a pretty major functional flaw.
You can be certain that if Consumer Reports posts a rundown it will be unbiased. They take no advertising and no grants, and have been that way since their inception.

I am well aware that this is a Vibrant board, but why is it that every time someone says something negative about the Vibrant, they are immediately accused of trolling?
As far as the Vibrant's issues are concerned, I owned the phone since the day it was released and have experienced the following major issues:
1. Lag - caused by Samsung's RFS file system, this is not likely to be fixed, unless Samsung decides to do away with it.
2. GPS - the JI6 update enabled the phone to get a satellite lock, but accuracy (or lack thereof) is still a major issue. I live in NYC, so I've tested the updated GPS under various conditions. Although I wasn't expecting it to be accurate in midtown Manhattan, it suffered from inaccuracy elsewhere in the city as well. For example, on a drive to Brooklyn from Manhattan, the GPS would intermittently drop signal, despite the fact that it was a bright, sunny day and I had an unobstructed view of the sky. During the same drive, the GPS placed me in the middle of the bay that separates Brooklyn from Staten Island. During general use in Brooklyn, the GPS would constantly place me about 2-3 blocks away from my actual location. It has been speculated that the GPS receiver of the Galaxy S series is underpowered, which wouldn't be surprising.
3. Compass - still non-functional. I don't believe that it was addressed by the update.
4. Rampant bricking of phones by the JI6 update. Many of the bricked phones were completely stock (mine included), so user error is out of the question. Speaking of updates, I am still confused about the recent spate of "updates" that revert the Vibrant back to JFD. What's that all about?
I am excluding the Froyo delays and the fact that the phone was released with Samsung being fully aware of the faulty GPS. Although these issues matter to many users, I knew full well that the phone was shipping with 2.1, with no definite timeframe for the update. Although I was unaware of the faulty GPS, I didn't think that Samsung would leave such a gaping functionality flaw unfixed.
Does the Vibrant make phone calls? It certainly does. However, it doesn't perform a couple of very basic advertised functions of a smartphone. Believe me, I really wanted to like the Vibrant. However, the experience became extremely frustrating.
If the fact that I disagree with Consumer Reports offends anyone, my sincerest apologies. Then again, there are plenty of Apple champions out there, who will consider any Apple product to be the greatest thing in the world, no matter how inferior it happens to be. I guess Android needs champions too. At least Consumer Reports didn't choose Apple.
The Vibrant is an awesome phone but I'm sure the MT4G would be on top if the article was updated.
Well I've only had the vibrant for 2 days and I've experienced pretty much everything you've laid out here. I agree the GPS does seem to be underpowered... it'll manage to claw its way up to seeing 12 satellites, then decide to just drop all but 1 and start from scratch again.
As for the lag... doesn't seem to be that big of an issue with me using bionix fusion but in stock form it felt considerably slower than my nexus one.
If I can't sort out the GPS I'm definitely switching to the MT4G.

GPS has been fixed. It takes less than 7 seconds for lock for me since JI6. Actually, stock JI6 is a faster lock then when running Bionix. In Bionix it can sometimes take up to 10seconds when standing still, less when moving.
enough time passed to see comparisons with some roms, kernels and the stock android itself.
(this is all compared to the nexus one by the way)
i cant help but find myself trying to find reasons to enjoy this phone, more than my previous pure google phone.
between the irony of this having everything first and yet not having the updated market....the whole idea that stuff is not yet 'ready' or 'recoded' for gingerbread and that whole GPU isn't optimized for better browsing....to the complete lack of browser modes (about:debug to get desktop! are u kidding me)
ive thoughouly tested all roms, and its early, obviously but all have glitches. CM can never re-up its 3g or any connection at times after being in a nozone area. modaco has a few random ones and dropped it all together. crackflashers mods are a disaster when you go deeper in the late 30's to 40's. trinity kernels gets crazy too, and dont you dare mix that with all the other aformentioned. oh and the stock has constant random reboots...as does all these roms and kernels.
thank the lord for rommanager and titanium back up. i never appreciated it as much after having such a wierd phone.
hate me all you want, go as far to say that im *****ing. all im saying is that im heavily testing the phone. and comparing it to a year old phone..nexus one is starting to really look better even with a worse screen.
all in due time i guess. heres hoping that patches ALL around come..im talking google patches. samsung patches and then dev patches.
So far the only significant complaint I have after two weeks that is actually about the Nexus S and not some app I have on it is the ringtone problem. Admittedly annoying, but hardly a snafu.
The browser lag/lack of optimization and home screen issues are pretty big problems, if you ask me. It's quite obvious this phone was a little rushed. Hopefully Google fixes this all sooner rather than later.

+1. Love the phone coming from the Nexus One.
I have had my Nexus S since the 19th of Dec. I have never had a random reboot, random ringtone issue or any significant issue. I don't really notice the browser lag.
I have given up on finding the perfect phone for me. They all have their issues. In the past year, I have owned the Iphone 3g, Nexus One(My favorite of all), HTC G2, HTC HD7, and the Samsung Vibrant. They all have quirks. I have given up hope that I will ever have a phone that does everything I would like. For now, the Nexus S is a good phone for me.
I am not that excited about the upcoming dual-core phones, i don't think battery tech is ready yet.
The browser lag is annoying, but I only really get it bad on pages with Flash elements. That indicates to me it has at least something to do with Adobe's plugin.

Even though most of us set the Adobe plugins to on-demand? I've noticed the lag on all pages that have a lot of graphics. Heck, with pages that don't have a lot of graphics, there's a little stutter when double-tapping to zoom in/out.
I'm not in denial at all.
I hate my Nexus One in many ways, much more so than any gripes I have with the Galaxy S or Nexus S (I own and use all three actively, still).
My N1 had plenty of big issues, none of which were ever fixed via software:
1) the capacitive buttons' touch zone are offset by at least 50% to painted location
2) the touchscreen frequently goes wonky and was never particularly accurate in registering touches (very difficult to type)
3) the screen is so oversaturated in red hues that watching video podcasts is like watching people with bad sunburns
4) the camera has a big pink blur in the middle of every picture
5) the thing was unusable in sunlight.
The N1 had some nice features, like the trackball, and a nice look and feel in the hand, but it is far from the Holy Grail of phones people not satisfied with their N1 try to make it out to be.
My SGS and NS have quirks, but they're software. The SGS was not usable after a couple of days due to lag, but some custom roms fixed that. The touchscreen is dead-on accurate and has more multi-touch points than the N1. The SAMOLED doesn't have a red or pinkish cast to it, and it looks great, even outdoors. The hardware feels a bit light and creaky after 6 months, but I have disassembled it several times to try hardware mods, and I may be responsible for the creak around the bezel.
The Nexus S is solidly built, feels better in the hand than either the NS or SGS, looks much sexier than both, has a great screen in both touch accuracy and appearance. It's not perfect, but it's a damn good phone. The software bugs will be worked out in relatively short time, either by google or through a custom rom.
I don't hate you for posting this, but what's the point? You're not happy with the phone and you still love the N1. Take the NS back and end your misery...
If you trying to get rid of it, do it soon, this phone's resale value won't hold up like the N1 did. Just sold 2 NS brand new in box and the price fetched is well a fair price but nowhere close the retail price.

but i've not seen it at all when i browse the web with any of the browsers installed
i've all of them installed
each one has its pros and cons
but none of them lags, so i'm not really sure why people are complaining about it
I have also had this device a day after release and I have not had any problems with it. Granted it's not perfect but I love this phone and wouldn't trade it until the next nexus comes out

I have had a SNS for 48 hours now, coming from an xperia x10i, so here is my thoughts for what they are worth. The nexus seems to me a solid handset, no frills and business like. The browser is a bit choppy, but aside from that I have found no issues. The xperia showed me the joys of root and roms...I took it as far as it could be thanks to its locked bootloader (MASSIVE respect to the XDA dev teams and people). The xperia went from a rather poor device through to a fast and impressive device (by XDA magic.) and I got the Nexus because from what I have read, it will be brilliantly customisable. I rooted and got recovery right out of the box, and wait in anticipation to lots of great ROM's.
I could of gone for a Desire HD which is a more flash and complete device....but it was Nexus all the way for me. Lets wait a few months and see how SNS is before jumping over to dual core 'next best things'
I wouldn't go so far as to say people are in denial. I believe people when they say they love their Nexus S. I really like it too, but I do think people are fooling themselves regarding the value of the Nexus line in general. We're imagining a large disparity between stock Android and manufactured OEMs that simply isn't true, or more specifically, simply not as true as we want it to be. Stock Android has not liberated us from the issues which we shun OEM skins for, and in fact, have created a slew of new glitches (some of which are arguably worse: rebooting phone calls, for example). The things we complain most about of OEM skins still exist to some degree in stock Android. Likewise, Bloatware is blown way out of proportion. Yes, they are unwanted, but do they really do so much harm? The answer no one wants to admit to is no.
Considering developers will more likely than not port over any and every new Android iteration to future phones, sometimes with improvements, and considering there are only 2 major updates from Google in a year's time anyway, I'm beginning to reevaluate the value of the Nexus line.
Of course, everyone will have different preferences. My past experiences with Android have always had OEM skins, and I was possibly making excuses to keep liking something from Google. Now that I'm using stock and there are no more excuses, I'm not sure if I can safely say Android is for me, even though I really want it to be.
I think the op should move on sell the phone and invest in a handset that really suit his needs. All I seen in his posts on other threads have been negative towards the handset.
You done all the testing that has been done. So why continue to lament..
Do yourself a favour sell it whilst you can recoup the cost. Get something you really want..

The value of the Nexus line is easy to root with no effort from the manufacturer to stop you, and supposedly first in line for OS updates.
Nexus One owners might argue that they we'ren't first in line for 2.3 - but they got 2.2 months before anyone else, and they might be next in line for 2.3.
The "pure" Google experience is a myth in my opinion, at least the "I got the phone for the pure Google experience" comments are. An awful lot of people already flashing or chomping at the bit to flash custom roms.
All that other stuff you posted is just your expectations, not everyone else's.

Good points, but to say the rest of what I wrote are expectations exclusive to me is clearly wrong. It's been ceaselessly reverberated at this forum that the Nexus line is all about a clean Google experience, free of OEM skins which hamper the phone, and free of career bloatware. Some have gone as far to call not having a logo on the front of the phone alone worth it.
Again, not trying to take away people's happiness with the NS; everyone will have different preferences, but what I wrote is not exclusive to me.

So, I have doubts on buying an SGS2. At first I was "wow'ed", then I read all reviews and watched all videos and I was "wow'ed" even more. But after reading forums I got totally disappointed, beacause SGS2 seems deeply flawed.
I know there are single threads for each problem, but getting through tens or hundreds of "me too" posts is a bit troubling, so I'd like to gather or problems, which are happening on all or at least many SGS2, on one list and ask if they got repaired or is there any view on them being repaired. Also I'd like to ask SGS2 users, who suffer from those problems, if they are really troubling and if they would buy SGS2 knowing 'bout them.
So, the list is:
- yellow tinting (smudge-stain) - I've read opinions that it's just glue, AFAIR I've read opinion that it got off after some usage time. Some claim that it is repaired in newer software, however I guess its hardware issue and I don't have any idea how such issue can be repaired via software. Is it very common, or just some phones are flawed?
- not-fluent gradients - so, I know it's software-related, and its due using 16-bits and bad dithering/high contrast on SGS2 and happens not only on SGS2, but its much more visible on SGS2 display. The question is: are there any official upgrades or custom roms that address that issue? If not, are such planned?
- pink spot on photos - common for many many phones, but we know it can be greatly corrected by software update. Are there any good software upgrades / custom photo apps to address this issue?
- darker left side of screen - just read about it recently... is it common? can it be addressed by software/firmware upgrade?
- random power offs - I've heard that many users complain about their phones going off randomly. Some said it's just matter of dust or dirt... Is there anyone who's phone is power-offing randomly and don't know why?
- high temperature - seems a problem too, due to slickness of SGS2. My question is, if it's really that troubling and if it can cause some defects after longer usage?
I know there are more problems, but they are not that common and can be solved by "return to a shop" method . So I don't list them here.
Once again - sorry for duplicating many posts. I hope that this thread will be useful for other people, who have doubts on buying SGS2 because of those problems.
You know. I agree on paying much for phone, but I demand flawless work. And I rage over every little issue when I expect something to be near-perfect... So... If you could help me to decide whether I want SGS2 or I don't, I'd be glad and thankfull (otherwise, just close/delete the thread ).
Cheers.

User who claim to have it will say every phone has it . Not on my phone and not on many others .

You would have to ask Samsung that question . Again its something i dont notice .

No
- darker left side of screen - just read about it recently... is it common? can it be addressed by software/firmware upgrade?
Never heard of this one

Who are these many users out of six million some have got to have a reboot especially with some of the numptys who install roms without reading the instructions .
- high temperature - seems a problem too, due to slickness of SGS2. My question is, if it's really that troubling and if it can cause some defects after longer usage?
Only been out three months so who can tell long term .
Very hot never on my phone but i dont play games .
Would i buy another you bet .
Should you buy one a BIG BIG NO you have already found loads of might be problems that you will convince yourself exist on the phone you buy .

Stop and think about it, if this phone was sold defective how could it reach 6million sold. Wouldn't the tech sites be all over it if this phone was faulty.
6million vs 30users on xda and who knows what they did to there phones.

have had sgs2 for 2 months now have not faced a single problem
- Yellow tint is haaardly noticeable. You really have to be careful on a gray screen with low brightness to eventually notice it. It's not a problem at all.
- Pink spot ? I never had this issue, and I still haven't. But as stated, it's fixed in a software update, if needed.
- I haven't noticed any darker side (might be related to the yellow tint, so same reason)
- Random power offs: Haven't got any shutdown or reboot, even with custom ROMs.
- About heat problem, I got it sometimes a bit hot, but nothing preventing me from using it, or holding it.
So definately issues are not a big deal compared to the wonderfulness this phone is.

Really ? so my SG2 is just one of the fews that has yellow tint, pink spot, leaked light on home button, random high temperature issues ? so should i demand samsung to replace my SG2 ?
So I must be one of the 30 unhappy XDA people who post their problems, right?
Yes I have pink spot and the phone sometimes gets really hot, that's the two pissues I have but they don"t really bother as much as THE VOLUME of the in ear speaker and headphone volume output is very very low compare to any other phone I own (owned).
I have 4 friends who have SGS 2 and all of them complain about somehow low volume or muted sound, so I am sure it's not just me. (please don't post about using volume + or re setting the values by Samsung secret codes - tried all that, it doesn't work)
So if Samsung adress this issue with their next update I will be very happy.

Guys, thanks for posts, but lets stick to original form, which is: (future) fixes for problems and if they are a big deal for ppl who has them. These are all common problems (some are typical of all SGS2s) so there is no use in just saying that you have them or arguing on how common they are. I don't read XDA only, also other (not-english-language) forums, so these are based not only on XDA (tbh, they are based mainly on other sources).
Please, I wouldn't like this turn into flamewar.

Maybe get one of these if you don't mind spending a bit of extra cash.

Yellow Tint Issue:
Its there on a lot of phones, A lot of people say this is a non issue because they cant see it on their phones ( or they have visual impairment ), they also fail to understand that the issue affects each phone very differently, with my personal experience of 30+ phones only 6 (AFAIK) had extremely minimal yellow tint.
My phone has a yellow tint, after knowing the 2.3.4 removes the tint I've stopped the replacement request already as it is pointless. It maybe a non issue to you or to the other 5,999,999 buyers but its there.
Gradient issue:
Some say its a rendering limitation on the GPU it self, others say it can be corrected at a kernel level by putting the render mode to 24bit.
Pink spots:
Software issue, I dont think samsung has any intentions to fix this, since this is a common norm with modern day cameras on mobile phones, this is a non issue for me.
Darker left side of the screen:
A lot of phones or maybe even all phones suffer from this issue from 0 to 20% brightness, at 30% it even outs a tiny bit, at 50% its non existent anymore.. My Galaxy S never had this issue even at 0% brightness, a non issue to me.
Random Power offs:
Never experienced it actually but I know a friend who had this issue got this unit replaced.
High temperature:
Different phones give off different heat profiles, I've been playing a lot of HD games on my phone and Its barely even warmer than playing Angry birds, on my friend's phone his heats up pretty good but not to the point that its alarming.
Despite all of these issues, I still love the phone. What bothers me the most is the screen issue though, none of these were on the Galaxy S and with the Galaxy S2 the general public has accepted these issue to be normal ( which baffles me ). Just dont let the people who wanna run statistics in your face tell you different.

Theres no fix yet and I really doubt samsung will which such a small camera issue, its practically not there if you dont look for it.
If you wanna know about this then take a picture of a white sheet of paper under automatic white balance you should be able to see it even on the viewfinder mode.

I honestly believe that there are more than 30 ppl in XDA having issues with the phone that includes random shut-off, overheating, camera issues, screen issues and battery life issues. But I guess those people who got unlucky with their phones are people who dont know how to use it right since the other 6M buyers didnt have issues at all. Issues are always a minority else the phone would never even hit mass production.. Even the GPS issues on the Galaxy S which was covered by techsites, they were a minority but that doesnt mean their issues are invalid/unrealistic/made up.

If he's thinking about getting a phone of this caliber, he chose it because of other features, which are far more significant then a "darker left side". I don't blame the OP, I read a LOT before buying it, because it's an expensive phone; but what's the point of asking all these? Some people have it, and they complained, some don't, they didn't... so at most you will get some random answers depending on your luck and which people reply to your thread. If I'd say yes my phone has a yellowish tint, would he not buy it anymore? Is this so decisive?
There are ****loads of threads which already discussed it; reading them all is lots of work, but asking this has the same results as you would open a thread like that and read 10 posts randomly, you just take a small sample and reassure yourself that it's a good phone, or the opposite.
Okay OP, let me tell you, this phone is the BEST you will ever get. I don't have any of the problems you said, expect the pink spot, which I never noticed until someone pointed it out. I know other people who have it and they don't have the problems either. Take my words, go and buy it now, it's awesome. Weee.
You sound like your the one *****ing
You know this thread wasn't meant to be about existance of flaws (which exist) but primarly about if there is a fix for them or if the fix is coming. Maybe I stated it wrong in original post (now as I read it, maybe that is the case).
EDIT: I am getting SGS2 later this week or the next week for 99%. I'll just check at the store if the yellow thing isn't a dealbreaker. If no, I'll get it. Of course any feedback on main topic (which is (upcoming) fixes) is welcome!
Cofalik, any normal person researching the SGS2 will get scared after reading the threads here. I've got the pink circle and yellow tinting, but the problems can be fixed/improved with software. Besides, they are difficult to detect (when not specifically looking for them) and only show up in certain conditions. I never had any heating problems or random reboots.
The phone is fanstastic. I think you're gonna love it.
However, if you don't, please blame someone else.
There are loads of gripes about the Galaxy note and wish lists which are well discussed here. However, there does not seem to be any major issues which could be considered as deal breakers requiring immediate remedial action from Samsung as happened with the IPhone. Considering the complexity and pioneering aspects of the Note both in terms of hardware and software then that achievement is no mean feat. Even when there are gripes, seldom is a better phone suggested as an alternative. When you read the large amount of threads casting doubt on the Note you would be forgiven for believing it must be the worst phone ever made. But nothing could be further from the truth. Of course everyone likes to be re-assured about the quality and performance of a phone before spending a large amount of money and the volume of gripes here may put some people off. But I don't think so, for in spite of the gripes most people think it is the best phone ever made. When you look at Apple Forums you don't see as many gripes, is that because the IPhone is better or are Android users more critical? It seems to me that Apple users are proud of their phone and are therefore less likely to criticize it.
Deal breaker??? the only deal breaker will be the size (its not everyone sweet spot)... for me, its perfect.. the best of all worlds (tablet+phone+note), just like the S2 it is ultra slim, light, Power horse phone and gaming device... Gorilla glass, and that beautiful Super amoled HD screen... and finally later next year we will get ICS for sure
if you ask me what I wish to change.. is the s-pen... i wish they could have placed it somewhere more easier to pick.. and it is so tiny that makes it not that comfortable to write with.. however I already ordered two Wacom pens to use with my note during work and home.
so far (my opinion) the Note & S2 (HD version coming soon) will be the most successful Android devices... they are the only 2 models that I found getting iphone users to jump ship into Android.. already right now two of my colleagues jumped ship from iPhone... and previously few for the S2... however, the reason why most of them moved to Android is only because they love tweaking and the extra hardware features they get with Samsung.. rest of the iPhone users seem will never ever move to Android.. as you mentioned "they are proud of their phones" and loyal to Apple products which I respect
my two cents
For me, none whatsoever. I've been using the Note for almost a week now and I've not felt this good about a phone since my HD2 and since that phone I've had the Sensation and the GS2. I've missed being able to use a proper stylus (general capacitive styli just don't cut it) Sure it has it's bugs and issues but then what new phone doesn't? In the Note, any issues are dwarfed by the advantages of having such a powerful and versatile device. It certainly won't be for everyone but that's why we have such a choice of phones and operating systems out there.

No deal breakers. Have had it for almost two weeks and it just works. It's light given the size of the device, and while one-handed operation is pretty much no-go, that's was a understandable tradeoff.
Having said that, I've read reviews that the camera focus is acting funny on the Note though. Wonder if this is fixable by installing the SGS2's camera app (since both use exactly the same camera module apparently)
The pro's of this phone outweigh the poor sound quality that this device outputs. It really is a beautiful phone. It it a touch laggy sometimes, but I am hopeful that these will be fixes with some software updates (wishful thinking?). I have read similar experiences for the S2 when it came out as far as lag issues.

Glad to hear no dealbreakers for this one. I am in the US and cant wait for this phone to be released so I can get rid of my captivate. Major deal breaker for that phone is the piss poor GPS. Glad to hear that the only issue seems to be a little lag which imo once more devs touch it will be reduced dramatically. Lag is almost always software related while my experience with my poor GPS on my captivate seems to be hardware related.
Just curious how is the GPS on the note, does it lock fast?

All reports are that it's really really fast... in the range of 2 seconds to lock. It uses the Russian Glonass satellites too, so even indoors you pick up a good number...
So, I've had my Note for two weeks now, and I have read lots and lots of threads and topics regarding the Note here on xda... Many of them made me think really hard about buying the note at all.
What I cant understand, is that people are complaining about lots of stuff, like stuttering in 3d-games, overheating, s-pen not working, battery drain and so on.
I can honestly say I have absolutely NO problems with my Note. Is it because i came from a htc Hd2 with hyperdroid ROM (with stutter, heat and drain problems) or just because I'm lucky?
I am a heavy user, and like to test all my technical equipment to the fullest. I have done so with the Note for the last two weeks (especially on my 8-hour train trip) and I must say that I am nothing but happy with this AMAZING device.
I am on stock ROM, rooted, and the only "help" for a faster device I have installed is Chainfire 3D. I have never experienced stuttering in gaming, never overheated (max 45 degrees celcius, checked batt temp in androsens after a while of heavy gaming+charging).
So I raise my question: Is it possible that many of the users in here has gotten a note from a bad batch? It sure sounds like it when a person starts a thread about a issue I've never experienced and several users reply with "yeah its a general problem with the note" and "I'm gonna switch my note for an iPhone".
What do you guys think?

I guess most people that are complaining in the forums are Crackflashers that always want the most current rom, but they never recognize that the most builds need Drivers.
As seen in ICS Rom Threads. Complains about a non working FM Radio or Videocamera.
If you use your Note With stock rom everything should be fine.
Sorry my english is not the best but i hope you get the point.
IMO Note is many people's first Android smartphone and they think that they have some problems with the device, whereas everything works as it should.
I also had Hd2 and I kinda used to mess with the Android.
So I can say that I dont have any problems with my Note running on stock rom.
The large number of issues reported here does look at odds with reality when you visit other user groups such as AVForums where there is almost no faults or complaints about the Note. The 7.7 forum at AVForums is the same with helpful non-critical posts being the norm. I would recommend anyone thinking of buying a Note or a 7.7 to visit AVForums to see how happy people are there and to take the huge number of issues reported here with a pinch of salt.
No phone is perfect.
When you sell millions of devices, you're going to see hundreds of complaints. It's the Internet.
I generally ignore complaints unless I see multiple people complaining about the same thing.
I've been considering the Note along with the upcoming HTC One X for my contract upgrade but the Note was winning due to the battery size among other things. However, I had noticed a lot of complaints here about 3D game performance but that didn't bother me as I don't really care for games on my phone. Then I saw mention of stuttering in normal use and it made me think the Note was suffering from lack of power graphically despite the positives. I'm glad to see this posted as it more or less tells me those reports aren't the majority.

What you say is true. However, why have all the faulty devices been sold to xda people and almost none to AVForums people? Something doesn't add up.
I'm very heavy active smartphone user too. With Note from november 2011. I flash few times only for deodex and root to 2.3.6 and one time for 4.0.3 (now I'm back to 2.3.6). I don't have stuttering in 3d-games, overheating, s-pen not working. I only one time have battery drain, but i quickly fix that just flashing new kernel.

No. The problem is that for many people it was their first smartphone.
aside from gaming, which I don't do at all, I would call myself a "heavy-poweruser", I got the Note as soon as it came out in Europe (bought it from Germany), I am on stock LC1 + CF-Root (updated today, I was on LB2) and I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the Note.
put simply: I can't see myself using any other phone..

That was what I thought at first, I just didnt want to offend anyone.
But lets be honest. Posts complaining about the device like that is kind of a turn-off when it comes to whether or not to buy the note. I think its important to let people know that the note is a better device than what these complainers make it out to be. Not because I want Samsung to earn more money, but because it really is the best device I've ever laid hands on.

You are absolutely right about the excessive complaining here. If you check the AVForum you will see there are hardly any complaints which proves the problem is with the complainers here and not the device.
I don't know about you guys, as hard to accept there are really some problems with our Note.. one of those prevalent problems are the colour banding and screen blockiness issue.... some even had already gotten a refund over this primary issue....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430847&highlight=galaxy+note+screen
It's either some are just the unlucky few or either we just tend to shrugged off the issue (even its already infront of us)
for me it was the color render problem (I'm in the acceptance phase and try not to care about it anymore)
the point is, when someone gets a high end phone and pays that amount of money (price differs from country to another, here in costs about $860 to get it) people except maybe a flawless device or something that will do anything they throw at it
plus being a developers forum, many users expects to find solution or a fix for their problem whatever that problem was, i guess that's why you'll find so many complaining.

Selling perfect phones is bad business decision for these companies. With 2 years contract and subsidies, the manufacturers only need to create overpriced phone that last for a short time.
With that said, beside for being a little too big and not officially pentaband, the Note is the best phone I've used. I have no idea where the accusation of stuttering 3D graphic from unless someone have too many bloatwares and background processes on their device. The device have a Mali-400MP4 gpu, it can handle modern combat at 720p. People needs to understand its outputting 3D graphic in HD, but thats the limitation of Android, it can't change to lower resolution.
For me it does not render some shade of gray correctly, but it seem to be a software issue, 720p AMOLED screen is still amazing compared to offerings from competitors, nothing come close when sunlight is involved. I think the Galaxy S III will be a good successor, they will use RGB matrix and hopefully have better quality control for the screens. It does seem to be a problem for Samsung lately, specifically International version versus American version that tends to have more issues.

Since when HTC started mimicking Apple and using metal in their phones I crossed them off my list (MOBILE devices are meant to be LIGHT) so I don't know the quality of their current phones but I see Samsungs as of very good quality. My last 3 smartphones have been the Galaxy S, Galaxy SII and now Galaxy Note (plus the Galaxy Tab 10.1) ZERO hardware problem with each and every one of them.
And I have dropped the 3 smartphones several times... (and I never use cases)
Occasionally.
I get the occasional overheating but it only happens once in a while or when I'm playing Fruit Ninja / FN Puss n' Boots or watching movies on MX video player. Stuttering happens sometimes but I don't really mind it, to be honest. The Galaxy Note really is a magnificent phone.
