oh you should have said that, that is as easy as wiping and romming lol. there are several untouched and rooted and lightly modified stock roms. I use glite which is basically stock except without the bloat. There a few some are a little optimized like glite but here are a few

Anyone try rootkeeper and upgrading to Gingerbread on G2??

I have 2.2 and this damn update wont stop bothering me on my htc g2. I barely understand enough about all this Im suprised I successfully rooted and S-oFF without bricking the thing.
Has anyone tried to use rootkeeper to unroot, install the OTA, then reroot?
I am looking for the easiest method to upgrade my phone and stay rooted. Any help is appreciated
there is currently no root for gingerbread do not update!
---------- Post added at 06:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:10 PM ----------
instead use a pre-rooted gingerbread rom, if you like stock there is several roms to choose from. You must reflash to one of those. If you do unroot and ota then to reroot you must downgrade then root then flash a pre-rooted rom.
Oh wow thanks for the fast response. Any tips how how to suppress the update notification? Its really annoying every 30 minutes. Im on stock rooted 2.2
I just updated because of that lmao! Dunnno you could find the service and probably freeze it with TB not sure, i would just kill the service and it would go away for a few hours.
If you only want to switch off nagging update notification, go:
menu=>about phone=>software updates=> tick off "scheduled check" (not sure if this is the same on 2.2 because i have already updated mine with pre-rooted 2.3), but the option has to be somewhere in "about" section.
rooting 2.2 is pretty easy (done it myself) and there's a nice guide on Desire Z WIKI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Vision
it also includes guide to downgrade if you mistakenly updated to 2.3.
cheerz!
Just flash a pre-rooted gingerbread stock. There ya go, upgraded and won't get update message..pretty simple

Yea just flash ginger bread lol. Took me a few minutes and no more notification
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211143
This is the pre-rooted Gingerbread ROM that I use as my daily driver and I can say it works great... Battery life sucks on my behalf, but that's because I have yet to recondition the battery itself.

Is there anything else I should know? Re:Rooting

I am not brand new to rooting, I have rooted 6 phones now, the original droid, a droid 2 global, 2 htc incredibles and 2 htc evos and I have played around with MANY roms and even made my own animated bootloader with music so I think I know my way around androids ok... I plan to follow this guide http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1359&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1390112&v=1&libid=1323996859212&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwiki.cyanogenmod.com%2Fwiki%2FHTC_Glacier%3A_Full_Update_Guide&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fforumdisplay.php%3Ff%3D830&title=%5BQ%5D%20Best%20root%20method%20for%20the%20my%20touch%204g%20-%20xda-developers&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwiki.cyanogenmod.com%2Fwiki%2FHTC...l_Update_Guide&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13240833107971 but I have read that rooting this one can be harder? IE: I read a disclaimer somewhere that went something like if your new to rooting then this is not the phone for you to start with...
Since this isn't my phone, I feel like I should go into this as well informed as I can. Anyone know of other VITAL, CREDIBLE info that I will need beyond that guide I posted?
Thanks,
Heather
btw, I'm doing it tonight so.... quick replies are much appreciated.
You should probably try the dev sticky and check your emmc chip and if its the bad one you may want to reconsider rooting but if its the good one and you know what you're doing it will be as simple ask downgrading then running the gfree script
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
please check the guide i have in my signature, it WILL help you.
First you'll need to downgrade via this guide. But that's only needed if you're on 2.3.4, if you're on 2.2.1 already then you can skip this step.
Then once you've done that you can either root via the root.sh method or the gfree method.
Good luck!
That's all you pretty much need.
Mackster248 gfree method is the best ..

thanks for that

[Q] 4.7.3 rooting

Hello guys. My droid pro was updated before 4.7.3 (by downloading with System Updates in Settings) from 4.6.8 without root. How to root 4.7.3? Thanks.
p.s sorry, my english is bad
Try SuperOneClick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

I think that the only way to root droid pro is downgrading to 4.6.8, root phone, save root by something like OTA Rootkeeper and flash/upgrade OTA to 4.7.3.
That's how i solve this on my droid pro.

Nobody can root 4.7.3 now.
Except rootkeeper(or "Survival Mode" in SuperSU Pro Version)can keep root access across OTA updates, why not have a try about to use other roms? Most of unoffical roms have root access.

I installed CM 7.2.0-venus2 on my droid pro. Awesome firmware, but have some problems.
After dial numbers with dialer, sometimes phone rebooting. After change to GSM/WCDMA auto this problem it seems has fixed.
1. Why I hear instead of beep (when calling) signal indistinguishable noise?
2. Why display is flashing when calling?
How fix this problems? or prompt me stable CM7 firmware WITHOUT this problems. I Hope to your help. Thanks.
Hmm. If you flashed vanila's ROM, i don't know why this problems, that you writing about appears. I'm using this(vanila's CM7) ROM for more than 3 months and didn't met any bug's like you writing about. So maybe before flashing CM7, you need to format data, system and cache, and then flash CM? I don't know.

recovery?
Morning all,
Been reading about rooting this little feller all weekend and it seems the only way is to downgrade first.. A post in the devlopment area gives a gent a hard time for not having a nandroid... and I do not want to be that fella. =)
Did I miss a post about getting recovery on this device?
I will search that again, but if anyone had a nugget of knowledge for me, it would be great.
My daughter choose this little critter for the keyboard, I did not know it was in the "legacy - not worked on much" area. =) Sure am glad Vanilla is giving it a little love. I am not sure I could handle having a phone that was stock...

Sorry... the sticky that reads "Update in progress tricked me... skipped it since it said 8-5-12... figured it was out of date... Lots of good stuff in there.

Help! how to unroot?

Can someone please show me how to unroot my sprint galaxy s4? when i first got it, it was on android 4.4. with touchwiz.
Wow if you spent more time searching and lest time yelling you might find your answer.
Also if you really did want a good answer you would give WAY more information as to 'how you rooted' your device to begin with and what it's current state is: What recovery if any, what ROM etc. Is it a standard SPH-L720 or is it the "T" version? etc....
Maybe this but only if you're on standard 720

Im sorry im kinda new here.. Well im using clock work mod recovery the not touchscreen one. I rooted it by using odin. Im currently on the newest cyanogen mod rom as of right now. My phone is a standard SPH-L720
Being a newb is okay.
Everyone was once.
But it's important to learn how to do things for yourself as much as possible and properly and politely ask for help if you need it after doing everything you could to find the answers.
Check out the link I posted above if you want to get to 4.4x stock.
Not a knock on you, but so many people come here and just expect 'support' for their mistakes. Not what this community is about.

[/COLOR]Since you rooted with Odin you have tripped Knox so if you're going to return the phone for some reason to Sprint they might give you problems.

Reflash your rom (dirty flash, don't wipe anything) and then try again. Some say a better way is to make a nandroid of your system and just restore it, but a dirty flash worked for me.
What do u mean by dirty flash? Can u plz expalain Cuz im newbie in this
Every ROM, when you flash it, gives you two options.
The first option is to wipe data and system partition (NOT your storage, the previous ROM) which is known as a clean flash. Because you start with a completely clean ROM.
The second option is not to wipe anything. Also known as a "dirty" flash, because well you lose nothing All your apps and data are there.
So just reflash your rom, but when it asks you if you want to wipe anything, select no
Which rom do you have?
Ok i dirty flash my rom then flash the kernel of elementsx then when i tried to s off with firewater then it say
"Kernal contains HTC anti firewater patch"

Try Bulletproof kernel, worked for me.
Do a TWRP backup, flash CM11 without gapps and do the firewater method, worked on my EU HTC One
If firewater doesn't work sunshine can s off your phone but it will cost u $25
Hey guys, I'm on 1.57 hboot and that is my chip. Is it possible to get s-off!?
See above post
Can semi-confirm that Sunshine works, got me to the payment screen (which means it passed all checks) where firewater failed. However I won't pay for it yet, I'm still considering sending my phone to service and if I do pay for it now, I may get my phone back with different mainboard or IMEI so I'll have to pay again :/
Will it also work with elementsx 14.12? I am on insertion 3.0.6
Yes that is the kernel I used with firewater and achieved s-off on the first bottle. Only difference was I was on stock rom
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
I can confirm that kernel works on stock 1.57 bootloader 4.4.2 first chug
