2.3 gingerbread

hi got htc hd desire just downloaded the new 2.3 from t mobile it downloads but when it comes to install it stops half way with a big red triangle and locks the phone any help please

Had you rooted it prior to this?

only with z4root not fully rooted but i have uninstalled it now

The reason the update fails, is because the system partition has been modified. Other than keep trying the OTA, you can flash the 2.3 RUU. This will however wipe your handset.

Is your phone rooted? Is there a custom ROM on it? Have you done anything to it recently? You might want to try a new battery.

I would try a new battery. They're not too expensive.

Completly stock rom?

Hi xda peeps. I have a fully rooted phone with s off I'm currently running cm7.1 I have been running this for a long time but have not really done anything custom in a long time. I want to go back to the stock rom but I don't know if there is one, can some one please tell me where to download one or one on rom manger that you would recomend? Thanks

oh you should have said that, that is as easy as wiping and romming lol. there are several untouched and rooted and lightly modified stock roms. I use glite which is basically stock except without the bloat. There a few some are a little optimized like glite but here are a few

2.77.651.3 - Bootloader/Root/Discussion

Hi Everyone,
I took the OTA update today after RUUing to a stock 2.76.651.6 install (that's the 10/25/2011 update). I have learned the following information:
*This brings us to android 2.3.4.
*This contains new radio firmware that I'm sure someone will extract and put up for experimentation or whatever it is you kids do with radio firmware.
*There are also several firmware images for what looks like other chipsets, no doubt tied to the nebulous claim of battery life improvements
*The update contains a new HBOOT.
Edit: What I have written here before is no longer accurate - using fre3vo does not work on the 2.77 update. VICODAN has posted some great writeup material for how to deal with it. The good news is that if you take this update, you probably won't be unhappy, since it's about as snappy as sense can be, and you CAN flash a more flexible kernel than stock. The software also does a hell of a lot better at keeping Rosie in memory, which means fewer white HTC screens than before, and since the background processes are less crapped up with CIQ, re-launching it goes a lot faster now.

By rooting, misc-ing, and downgrading, HBOOT is returned to 0.98.0001.
I haven't yet played around with the 2.77.651.3 to know whether or not any of the performance issues with sense have been resolved, but that's why I wanted to make a new thread for this. Also if anyone's having trouble with it, they can talk it out here.

I did notice the shift booted up FAST when I held vol down + power. I dunno if that's just fast boot or what but I guess it is more than just twitter.

It'd be great if we could get an RUU to extract this update from. Maybe Football will dig one up again.
I feel like this is as fast as the phone always should have been! Now that CIQ isn't crapping up the background process list, it's like "zooooooooooooooooom!"
I reported over 1400 with Quadrant again; first time on a sense rom/stock kernel since 2.2 that I've been able to do that. (actually, I just got a 1535)

I got over 9000!!!
Just tried to install the GB OTA on a rooted 2.2 stock and I got the android robot and an exclamation mark. Heh. Time to RUU.

Don't post a link... Send the link to a reputable dev. The zip is not flashable by any rooted user using a non-stock htc recovery, so all posting a link would do is cause confusion... Also it might not be as simple as mounting, extracting, etc., their are multiple system flashes and 1 is for sure a patch. Im not sure if the patched apk's need to be altered...

Here's a common sense notice ... Always assume that there is a user out there, too ignorant to read, that will download and attempt to flash this... Or, that will attempt to push or install the patched apk/odex files (which may or may not work, but I'm guessing won't because they look like patches to me)... If any dev or user wants the .zip they know where to get it...

radios (both of them) and the touchscreen firmwares....confirmed to work on two shifts using eng hboot.
just place on the root directory of the sdcard..and reboot into hboot (vol down + power)...it'll pick up.

I don't care about the patches for apk's I just want the new radio's lol. The radio's are seperate images but like Vicodan said otaking is on it. I agree don't post zips here.

The only issue with that is you still have s-on and not a full eng bootloader. I don't think it will let you flash the recovery but not sure. I know there's some things you can't flash with the unlocked s-on bootloader.

I'm not 100% but I believe you can still flash recovery (look at the E3D). I don't believe you'll be able to flash anything through bootloader.. e.g. radios, bootanimation etc.. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's how I remember reading it. Also looking at the 3D threads, apparently you have to fastboot boot recovery to be able to access recovery...? Looks like you can still flash most everything, just seems like more of a hassle than having s-off.
Not to mention your warranty is officially void..

You can flash recovery and evidently if you use fastboot to boot into a recovery image, you can flash boot. But more importantly, if you really want to, you can go back to the eng hboot and have s-off again.
Officially voiding your warranty is not really a problem - first, i got my phone Jan 23 of last year, so my warranty is officially void anyway; second, HTC's software support is completely worthless if you've never tried to interact with them before; and third, I got the phone with best buy's protection plan, so there's really no reason for me to talk to HTC in the first place. Indeed, when I had a hardware warranty pop up last month (part of my digitizer went dead during air travel), the replacement process took my broken rev 0004 phone and gave me a brand new 0005 phone. I had root and whatever and nobody cared.
Also, unless I don't remember correctly, doesn't flashing unofficial software officially void your warranty anyway? Isn't there a standard disclaimer that used to show up on every single rom OP?

hey yall, ok so im bit confused with all the recovery and lokid and stuff on gs4-----was so simple to root and install roms for gs2/gs3
can anyone please tell me the simplest way to install custom rom on gs4?
im have rooted my GS4 with motochopper, can i just download the ROM zip--go to recovery and install??
i also noticed there is no backup/restore option into recovery but thats fine i will return to stock using odin

The reason I do not want a sticky, is if you are on a cell phone and doing xda, you have to physically use the stickies button, and there went half the traffic, that is having to use an extra step for non-readers, an extra step is disastrous. You know, to much work.
Now if you have a solution, I am all for it!

Gotcha--Maybe Kenny does--just a lot of good info not to have "in your face" at top of thread
On tapatalk 4 beta paid app it works fine. I did install xda free just see it and see what you mean. Thought they mirrored each other, guess not.

ok so i done all the steps and it seems all went well EXCEPT so i think, after doing CASUAL Process should i have done anything? because now i dont have custom logo with unlock logo when i boot the device
and also i tried to install LiquidROM but it says fail--something about i need to install supersu?

Sounds to me you don't have root. If you don't have SU in the apps, your not rooted, and if it is asking you to install SU, you are not rooted...the way I use to check root is terminal emulator from the market, run that, and at the prompt type SU, if it says command not found, you are not rooted.
You want a little advice...you need to flash a TW rom first, get used to whats going on, then go for the complicated roms.

Not right off, I open XDA app go to my Favorites, this Forum obviously, open General Section and Stickies are a choice at top along with Topics and Announce. I just don't see the issue vs having your great Guides/How To's available. I think most folks on the app or tapatalk are experienced and know for the most part what they are doing. But, the noobies will be on the pc and see the Threads quicker if Stickied. IMHO Sir

Okay.. so i've got a Mytouch 4G Tmobile (yes screen is cracked i kno) that WAS running Cyanogen perfectly.. until one day something happened.. i believe i flashed a new rom OR i flashed a new kernel or radio... and now no matter WHAT ROM i flash it just BOOTLOOPS forever.. i dont know what to do. $20 to the person who provides the advice to get it working again. Here is photos of my recovery crap.

I have also tried flashing the stock signed PD15IMG.ZIP file and in TWRP it just sais error. (I think it was a good copy of pd15img.zip i downloaded at least...)

Okay so i found the official stock rom for the tmobile glacier htc mytouch 4g and renamed it "PD15IMG" making sure not to add ".zip" to the end of it, and it just sais "cannot open zip file" heres a photo of the error in TWRP
What am i doing wrong??!! Ive followed every single tutorial i can find down to the letter... the only thing i havent done is setup ADB or anything.. is that what i need to do? I can flash roms succesfully, roms ive used before succesfully even... but it just bootloops on EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM... somethings wrong.. im BEYOND frustrated.. i am not new to flashing phones.. but this is just rediculous...

Update: so i found a post on 4shared of 6 different stock roms (PD15IMG.zip) files, the 2.2 and the 2.3 old and new, tried flashing all 6 but recieve the same exact error... my phone somehow became S-ON after flashing another rom when i got bored of CM7.. so i know i messed it up that way.. and all the tutorials ive read to S-OFF a glacier require you to be able to boot the phone up! SO... how can i even begin to achieve S-OFF status without a functioning rom? Or am i completely boned?

A bit late but, s-on may have happened due to flashing the stock files. Do you still have your twrp?
A common mistake is not wiping all the data before flashing a rom. Make sure you wipe your data in recovery before flashing a rom.

I believe I have flashed a boot.IMG or whatever too. So I've tried doing a COMPLETE wipe of eeeverything before flashing any ROM.. Still bootlooping. With any glacier ROM I try. So how do I achieve s-off again with no access to any ROM?
And yes I still have TWRP 2.2.2.1 functioning on the phone. But it is S-on status...
Any advice on what steps I should take to fix these issues? Even if it means a COMPLETELY stock, unrooted, regular mytouch 4g again I DONT care lol. Data is not important either. If losing it all means a functioning phone... So be it. But it won't even let me flash ANY of the stock ROMs. I've tried all 6.
Any advice is GREATLY appreciated. And my $20 offer still stands... I know it isn't much, but my daughter wants her phone SO bad... She asks me every day "daddy did you fix it?!" And having to tell her no is heartbreaking... XDA brothers.. Please help

Try flashing a rom ( I recommend cm7), then flash the kernel from that rom in bootloader.
The kernel should be called boot.img when you open up the zip file.

In the cm7 zip file which you will flash. So open up that zip file and right there, there's gonna be file called boot.img
Also there is a terminal emulator you can use in recovery =) I'll find the link for you

That's the recovery file manager, when you get into recovery just flash it and you can access all your files. It you press options, then a tiny box will pop up at the bottom of the screen that says terminal. Click that and then try to s-off

Thank you all so much for the help!! I will be trying all of this ASAP!!! SO... I just need to wipe everything, flash the boot.img (first?) Then go and flash CM7? 1) wipe
2) flash cm7
3) flash cm7's boot.img via bootloader
4) see if cm7 boots.. If not...
5) install terminal emu above (thx!)
6) attempt s-off w/o killing myself
7) if s-off successful... Flash ROM and go
8) if all fails, sell phone to hobo and buy new one lol

If it doesn't work, then just Download a PD15IMG.zip (or try PD15DIAG.zip), leave it on the root of your SD storage, and boot into the bootloader (not recovery) it should find the zip and install it. After you have gone back to the factory ROM, try doing s-off from there.
the reason why the PD15IMG.zip wont flash in TWRP is because they aren't recovery zip format, they are made to be flashed in the way I explained above..

Yes I understand, as I stated above 4 or 5 comments down, I tried to flash all 6 different copies of pd15img.zip via BOOTLOADER with no success, it flashes " un " lol but as it finishes flashing it just returns to the menu with an error, with ALL six versions of the stock glacier ROM... So it doesn't work via bootloader or TWRP. BUT I have not tried the 2nd file you mentioned, any chance you could let me know where to find that other zip file? I've seen pd15img.zip all over the place, but not that one. This is overly frustrating lol, someone even said it may be a physical problem and I should "twist" my phone during the flash.... Troll perhaps?

Also, reread your own thread, nowhere do you mention flashing via bootloader, only via twrp. But since you obviously know more than me about it, I'll leave you be..
