Hello guys. My droid pro was updated before 4.7.3 (by downloading with System Updates in Settings) from 4.6.8 without root. How to root 4.7.3? Thanks.
p.s sorry, my english is bad

I think that the only way to root droid pro is downgrading to 4.6.8, root phone, save root by something like OTA Rootkeeper and flash/upgrade OTA to 4.7.3.
That's how i solve this on my droid pro.

Nobody can root 4.7.3 now.
Except rootkeeper(or "Survival Mode" in SuperSU Pro Version)can keep root access across OTA updates, why not have a try about to use other roms? Most of unoffical roms have root access.

I installed CM 7.2.0-venus2 on my droid pro. Awesome firmware, but have some problems.
After dial numbers with dialer, sometimes phone rebooting. After change to GSM/WCDMA auto this problem it seems has fixed.
1. Why I hear instead of beep (when calling) signal indistinguishable noise?
2. Why display is flashing when calling?
How fix this problems? or prompt me stable CM7 firmware WITHOUT this problems. I Hope to your help. Thanks.
Hmm. If you flashed vanila's ROM, i don't know why this problems, that you writing about appears. I'm using this(vanila's CM7) ROM for more than 3 months and didn't met any bug's like you writing about. So maybe before flashing CM7, you need to format data, system and cache, and then flash CM? I don't know.

recovery?
Morning all,
Been reading about rooting this little feller all weekend and it seems the only way is to downgrade first.. A post in the devlopment area gives a gent a hard time for not having a nandroid... and I do not want to be that fella. =)
Did I miss a post about getting recovery on this device?
I will search that again, but if anyone had a nugget of knowledge for me, it would be great.
My daughter choose this little critter for the keyboard, I did not know it was in the "legacy - not worked on much" area. =) Sure am glad Vanilla is giving it a little love. I am not sure I could handle having a phone that was stock...

Sorry... the sticky that reads "Update in progress tricked me... skipped it since it said 8-5-12... figured it was out of date... Lots of good stuff in there.

and you should use perm root
If you're on 2.2/2.3.15 still, you might want to update to 2.2.1/2.3.340 before rooting. Go to settings/about phone and check Android system version and system version.

how to root a droid x 2.2
I have tried many rooting methods and I found Z4root 1.3.apk to be the fastest and easiest way to root. If and when you use this app it starts looping and doesn't finish you simply perform a battery pull and retry the permanent root using z4root 1.3 again and it will work the second time. You may need to try a third time but in rare cases.
sorry for the super late reply. Yeah I mean like a Rom.

Why do people ask that? Once you root, you can have ANY version of stock rom. Or run less stock roms. It's all win.No, you shouldn't recieve OTA updates once you've flashed. But root users will have whatevers pushed OTA long beforehand. Plus you can over/underclock, screen capture, do backups, and run RealHDMI with root.
anyone had a chance to look at this and try it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
I've heard it works but I have no need to try it
It appears that a few Droid X owners have successfully used this exploit, according to some of the responses in the link you provided. I'll be interested to see if this will work on the final Ginberbread OTA (keeping fingers crossed)!
I just tried it and it works. No problems arose.
That's definitely good news if the OTA comes out and it's got important tweaks that .588 doesn't have.

As long as you don't use it there will not be any problems
Just SBF'd to .340 and used the official update to .588, GingerBreak worked fine except I'm having issues getting Titanium Backup to recognize it has root. I get the prompt to allow it, but the app still says it doesn't have it. Other root apps, like adfree and autokiller memory work just fine. Hmf.
Scratch that. Just went back into TB, updated busybox and it's right as rain. Two thumbs up!
Works great for my DX, however, I need to un-root it and I've tried several ways from other forums and I am not having any luck.
Does anyone know the procedure to un-root for GingerBreak?
Edit: I don't have Gingerbread installed either, I'm just running 2.2.1 - I don't know if this makes a difference when trying to un-root this. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. I've been scouring trying to find a solution and I've had no luck yet. I've tried rooting then unrooting when the one-click program and that isn't helping me either. Any suggestions??
I don't know if this can be answered but it doesn't hurt to ask. How come the ota cannot be rooted but the P3droid version of GB can be rooted? If its the same thing then what is the difference on why it cant be rooted?
Just going to guess here (this is speculation not fact) but I would assume that p3 being as skilled as he is was able to reopen the exploits used to root that motor/verizon closed in the ota.

yea, what chbennet said sounds about right.
it just has to be rooted before it's put onto the phone. once on the phone, it cant be done.

I'm in the same boat as you. (got a replacement phone today and the wife updated it before I got home) I assumed there would be a simple way to root after the OTA but it looks like for now that isn't the case. I'm just going to wait a few days and see what happens.
Luckily .596 uses the same boot loader as froyo .340 so you can simply sbf the phone back to .340 then reroot and update to the prerooted .596 that p3droid posted on mdw.
SBF and root. Then you can flash the rooted version. Pm me if you need instructions on how to SBF.
Tethering using the official app costs money but there are other tethering apps
Oh ok, so like where can i find the other apps, n are they free? Also my phone was rooted n i was runnin the stock rom but i just sbf'd the fone and updated to 2.3 ota, can i still root my fone with the z4root? Or do i have to wait for something else?

Hello XDA
I recently updated my phone through Verizon to
Android Version 2.3.3
System Verion 4.5.596
Before I was interested in rooting. I have been researching and tried everything I could find to root this version
but nothing has worked. (gingerbreak, z4root, easyroot, ect.) I did a factory reset/system wipe.
(still 2.3.3 - 4.5.596 on reset)
Am I doing something wrong? Should this version be rooting with GingerBreak or another root program?
(They all are stuck on loading screens never finish or reboot)
or (from what I have read) do I need to rollback to an earlier version to be able to load the 'prerooted'
gingerbread OS?
I am fairly new to this, and am sorry for my ignorance. If it is out there somewhere a link would safice
but as of now I haven't been able to find anything dealing directly with my situation. Thank you for any
and all help.
-Laskowsky
There's no rooting method through stock 2.3.3 yet
you're gonna have to SBF back to stock .340 and flash p3droid's OTA rooted gingerbread ROM
Ok, I was hoping there was a simplier way but expected that for the most part from what I had read. Thank you.
Rooting my Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Droid X
I don't want to sound redundant to skate 72w but I have searched the forums up and down.. Is there any other one-click way to root my stock GB 4.5.596 droid x? I found this article
I do not see where it talks about the 4.5.596...
If not, can someone please direct me in the right way to get froyo back so I can have my wireless tether back!
Thanks,
-Nick

p3 tends to 'find' things that other folks don't have. He has a rooted .596 but it's achieved through flashing. He has not announced a way to root the OTA, and I think he would do so if he had one.

Is the sticky still there?
I would consider myself to be a noob when it comes to rooting, all i want it for is the wireless tethering. I have done an sbf once but dont feel very good about doing it again, and am just looking for another one click method to rooting like z4root. I am running on gingerbread 4.5.596 from verizon.
OTA Root
I love my Droid X - hate the VZ CRAPWARE.
I now have the 4.5.596 (2.3.3) OTA update.
The only update method to obtain root is to SBF to Froyo - Root - and install the TBH/P3 Droid pre-rooted update.
At this point, I have too many apps installed and too many settings to reconfigure to take the route.
My main goal is to obtain root (such as a Z4 root style one click) so that I can maintain all my apps and configurations. Once I root, then I can freeze all the VZ Crap (every Google Maps update requires me to choose between GM and VZ Navigator the first time 1 click an address, and having to choose the contacts database EVERY TIME to Google is a PITA - Backup Assistant should be something I can DISABLE).
Sorry for the rant - to the point - does anyone know if ongoing efforts are being made to create a one-click Root for the Droid X? (Or a multi step that preserves data / apps / and settings)
