I have 2.2 and this damn update wont stop bothering me on my htc g2. I barely understand enough about all this Im suprised I successfully rooted and S-oFF without bricking the thing.
Has anyone tried to use rootkeeper to unroot, install the OTA, then reroot?
I am looking for the easiest method to upgrade my phone and stay rooted. Any help is appreciated
there is currently no root for gingerbread do not update!
---------- Post added at 06:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:10 PM ----------
instead use a pre-rooted gingerbread rom, if you like stock there is several roms to choose from. You must reflash to one of those. If you do unroot and ota then to reroot you must downgrade then root then flash a pre-rooted rom.
Oh wow thanks for the fast response. Any tips how how to suppress the update notification? Its really annoying every 30 minutes. Im on stock rooted 2.2
I just updated because of that lmao! Dunnno you could find the service and probably freeze it with TB not sure, i would just kill the service and it would go away for a few hours.
If you only want to switch off nagging update notification, go:
menu=>about phone=>software updates=> tick off "scheduled check" (not sure if this is the same on 2.2 because i have already updated mine with pre-rooted 2.3), but the option has to be somewhere in "about" section.
rooting 2.2 is pretty easy (done it myself) and there's a nice guide on Desire Z WIKI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Vision
it also includes guide to downgrade if you mistakenly updated to 2.3.
cheerz!
Just flash a pre-rooted gingerbread stock. There ya go, upgraded and won't get update message..pretty simple

Yea just flash ginger bread lol. Took me a few minutes and no more notification

This is the pre-rooted Gingerbread ROM that I use as my daily driver and I can say it works great... Battery life sucks on my behalf, but that's because I have yet to recondition the battery itself.

1.5 Downgrade to Cupcake
Will this 1.5 Cupcake downgrade work on an Eris that has had the 2.1 Leak Installed?
Sorry
Ok so further reading leads me to believe this is NOT for LEAK. Sorry for the Question. Just following links looking for some CURE for the 2.1 LEAK I landed here. In the QUest for searching endlessly for a cure, I got my hopes up. Keep up the Great Work. I will wait patiently, hoping someone will find a way to fix for use that Jumped on the LEAK too soon.
To date there is no root nor downgreade for those on the leak. We are working on it.
Besides the root and such, this will run as if i just bought the phone?
worked great!

You could try FlashBack15 at the very bottom of the first post. This will unroot your phone. Then you could hope for the OTA upgrade and re-root (or is it just as easy to root from 1.5?).

The Eris Cupcake releases (1.5: 1.16.605.1 & 1.17.605.1) are susceptible to the "wag3slav3" symlink rooting exploit, so they can be rooted, for instance with the (Android Forums) "dummies" method. Jcase's "one click" rooting app for the Eris was built with Android 2.1 dependencies, so even though the rooting method works with 1.5, the rooting app does not).
I'm not sure why an MEID would ever needs to be "fixed", however. Smells kinda fishy to me.

I had a stock Incredible. I got anxious and decided to do the RUU instead of waiting on the OTA. Now I want to root. Can I do this now or do I have to wait until somebody figures how to root 2.2?

fairly certain you have to wait until someone roots 2.2.
Best way would've been to root, forever, then update and reinstall CWM Recovery
on previous thread.
There is another thread on the forums for just this. You will have to roll back with a hack. New user does not allow me to post the link but the thread id is 768295
here is the title to the thread. [GUIDE] How to downgrade from OTA RUU 2.2 to 2.1

Alright chaps, I would appreciate your posting to this thread as soon as you hear about rooting after the update on the 27th.
I am stock all the way and wished I had rooted prior to update. Lesson learned.
I just want root on new stock update. Hopefully I'll have root soon.
Thanks.

vzwsupport says 2 weeks to a month to finish updates.
After the updates roll out, if I flashed an image of the full stock 2.1 would I still beable to download the update?
Or is there any hopes of somebody making a full image of the 2.2 stock?
I received my update Saturday morning at around 8:30 a. m.
I have never rooted, so the steps provided will work nonetheless. I can go back to 2.1 and then root to 2.2 rom. Is this correct, I am told on other forums this will not work.

So the gingerbread update is supposed to come out tonight, and one of the suggestions from moto. Was if your rooted to flash back to to stock software, im on the stock rom and stock everything but with a few rooted apps installed. So should I flash back, or can I just unroot with z4root unroot button. Thanks for the quick reply

If you care about root, I wouldn't accept the update until they root it. No one knows for sure what exactly will keep the update from working on your phone. If you want the update, Froyo stock unrooted is the safest bet.
There is a thread on what you need in this forum
Thanks for the reply I do want the update, im on the stock froyo with stock kernals. with some rooted apps installed, so I can just hit unroot on z4root and it will uninstall rooted stuff?

Yes, did you ever flash clockworkmod or bootstrap?
If all you did was root, use z4 to unroot.
sent from a sweet paper weight.
Yeah never flashed with clockwork or anything, the most I did was change the boot animation using root tools but I put it back to the stock one, been waiting for gibgerbread for awhile lol

Cool thanks for advice, unrooted my phone and will wait for update

You may not be able to get it rooted however. Be careful
Still telling me update not available .. I'm guessing its due to me deleting the bloat wares.. I've not flashed or cloaked worked anything.. Just root. Delete wares..
Before Froyo, I was rooted and stock everything. (I really just wanted wi-fi tether and titanium backup). the OTA still worked fine, obviously I lost root, but I didn't lose anything else. Assuming you haven't flashed a new rom nor deleted stock apps, you should be fine. I don't think there's a way for the OTA to differentiate phones if they have the same basebands...
Ok this explains a lot...
If people aren't able to update.. this maybe why..
Copy and past this link.. i dont have enough posts to link to it.. ±★★gottabemobile.com/2011/05/27/droid-x-gingerbread-update-rolling-out-tonight-but-not-for-everyone

Be careful. You won't be able to upgrade if you deleted bloatware as it checks for system integrity before updating.
Thanks for testing it for us! Running nice and stable on apex, going wait and see if the new "bugs" are worth updating to.
I have a Droid X that I have rooted using z4 Root. Will I have any problems if I un-root and then download and install Gingerbread? I realize that z4 Root can't root Gingerbread yet, but I was wondering if I could just un-root and then install the update and just wait to re-root it when z4 Root can do it? It seems like people are having issues with the X even though they un-root before they update. Why is this? Thank you all for your time. I appreciate it.
People usually have problems updating because they have deleted or frozen bloat in their system folder.
If you unroot, and replace any bloat you may have removed, you should be able to update without a hitch.
After you download the OTA Gingerbread you won't be able to gain root again. The only option is two flash a two part prerooted install of .596 Gingerbread provided by Team Black Hat.

Thank you much. I shouldn't have any problem then because I haven't frozen or deleted anything. Is the z4 Root developer going to try to make a version of z4 Root that will root Gingerbread?

I for one hope so. I want to be on Gingerbread, but the OCD in me wants the OTA.
Question- OTA? What does it stand for?

Over The Air.
I unrooted with z4 Root and did a wipe and a restore to factory reset. I tried to update to GingerBread 4 times but all four times it failed. Somehow, even in the return to factory wipe, ClockworkMod Recovery stays on the Droid X. Why? I think it is the ClockworkMod Recovery that is preventing me being able to update to GingerBread. Do you think that might be the cause? In other words, resetting it to factory condition doesn't really reset to factory condition. How do I fix this? Should I just stay rooted with z4 Root and wait for a way to update to GingerBread from you guys? I'm just not sure what to do. Thanks for your time. I'm running Android Version 2.2.1 with a System Version of 2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US.
Root froyo with z4 then follow directions on this thread

Hello...Noob here. Question I did not indoor my DROID b4 downloading 2.3
Should I have? And what will happen since I didn't?
I also have one other question. I accidentally tapped on Updates and now it is trying to download the update. Is there a way that I can stop this manually? Thanks.

i thought you wanted to update to gb? why would you want to stop it?
why dont you just update to the pre-rooted gingerbread. see here http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...-5-596-release-thread-something-everyone.html
I want to stop it because I have tried to install it 4 times and it has failed to install on all four attempts. It won't install so I don't want to waste the time and the data.
The link is not working for me either
Follow the instructions below to return to froyo or upgrade to gb rooted or not.
Check out these links.
Link 1 makes a linux CD that you can use to SBF back to Froyo in about 10 minutes. This is a very easy method to get back to froyo. If you can burn an iso file to a CD then you can do this method.
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...-solution-your-windows-rsd-lite-problems.html
Then you can use z4root and install pre-rooted GB using the 2 flash method at link 2. Make sure that you use Droid 2 bootstrapper and not Droid X bootstrapper to install the rooted GB.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/05/28/download-official-droidx-gingerbread-4-5-596-for-rooted-users/
Follow the instructions closely for ensured success.
This can all be done in about 30 to 45 minutes depending on your computer skills.

Fixed the link,
U can go directly from rooted froyo to rooted gb using TBH GBroot flash. Flash just like u would a rom, and u might need to install the update the kernal depending if you flash a rom. Its easy, just follow my link and scroll down to my post it gives u the steps
