Hello!
My question is simple: How can I get Multitouch feature on my X8?
The Answer is simple, too: You can't get it.
The hardware supports it (IIRC). Sony just needs to update the software to support it.
Thanks, I hope they will do this quickly!

Well, they appear to be doing it to the X10: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777415
Hopefully they will bring this to the X8.

You are wrong, as X10 will get it, X8 will get it too,as the the screens are alike.
With 1.6 und 2.1 there is NO Multitouch support.

Because of this, sony could bring an update out at any moment to allow multi-touch.
Think main question is whether or not SE choose to keep the x10 "more exclusive" by not enabling double-touch on the x8.
On the x10 minis, you can hardly fit 2 fingers on the screen anyways
You could be right. But the X10 is nothing fantastic anyway, I don't see what they have to loose by enabling multi-touch on the X8.

But the question is, does HTC Wildfire have the exact same touch display as X8? Because that's what important, not the android version.
Even dual-touch will be good enough for me, so it depends on SE when they will release the update...
Damnit.

I've heard that both x8 and x10 have "only one layer of the capacitor screen, so multitouch can't be real for them", but I don't know if that's true. I hope not.

Guess what, we-ve got semi-pinchzoom now :>
We should open the x8 to see the chip, and compare it to the WildFire's chip.
I think that they will be the same more or less.
ByTheWay Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is an older phone than the x8.
Sony Ercisson is a capitalistic pig.
Well Xperia Arc or so called x12 has dualtouch only.
I'll go for the Desire HD, Galaxy S or Iphone 4 rather than the Xperia Arc.
Well if they decide to enable multitouch to the Xperia x8- win on both sides.

Multi- or dual-touch depends on touch digitizers, not chip. There's someone working on a kernel module that can enable a limited verion of pinch-to-zoom.
None of the makers of smartphones are in it for the goodwill. They're all capitalist organisations out there to make money for their shareholders. To say that x10 is older than x8 will be to compare a jaguar from 2 years back with a new ford fiesta of today.
Go to Custom Kernel in Development Section, there, we talk about custom kernel with Multi/Dual Touch
That can't be possible there are already multitouch kernels out there for the x10 but im not sure about the x8 il look it up for u

Anyone knows if x8 can support multitouch. Is it hardware limitation or just software stupidity of SE?
While I was reading x10 news about multitouch, the article basically said the phone developers themselves had to "hack" the phone and enable it via software.
Basically if I understood it correctly from the article, the hardware is flagged as "non supportive", while it can be enabled via software.
That above ^ makes no sense, so I'd just say it's a software issue.

If thats right, ppl can make it multitouch
I wish that will happen
Look here:

So we just 'might' get multitouch too.
Can someone try this.
Please.

Right, basically means the software for multitouch is already done.
Now let's see how long it'll take them to dispatch the update

similar :/
Does the X8 digitizer support multi touch?
Yes, it does.

Excuse me for being upfront, but you'll have to change your slogan in that mini "campaign"
The whole intention of them not updating software is most likely to just force you to buy new versions of mobile phones you already have ( x10 -> arc, x8 -> some new phone that'll come in 2011 ).
So it's all the same for them if you stick to your x8 for example, as the only thing they're attempting to do here is to force you to buy a new mobile phone - if you don't succumb to it, they don't give a flying **** cause you'll be stuck on a outdated, non-updating platform, and it's in your best interest to get off it if you're at least a bit of a tech savvy individual.
Also, people who stick with Sony Ericsson brand since their first phone ( such as myself, from old Ericsson t20e 'till newest x8 ), is their main market. No matter how bad service is, I won't change my mobile phone brand, as it's something I've gotten used to ever since I was 8 ( 13 years later, still using the same brand ), and same goes for many many users out there who don't need tech stuff like most of us here on xda want.
At least that's my point of view on it.
Sad really, but heh :\ Anyway, sorry for derailing the thread, and I signed up on facebook for the 2.2 support.
if is for X10, so it's will be for X8 also

possible dude but only the employer know it yet :S
@refract : I dont know.I think I will never buy a SE again if they dont publish new updates like 2.2+ for SE X8 because for exp : If I buy a new SE mobile next year, maybe will there again no updates for it -.-
Next phones will have better updates schedule.

Please don't make a statement what is not fully true!
Only Synaptics X8 is NOT MT capable, but the ones that came with Cypress chip inside are MT capable ("up to 32 touch")! Please read before you write something. Thanks.

Not quite. X8 doesn't have the same cypress chip as Arc, so cypress is not 32 point MT capable. However, it might be, that it will be easier to create real MT for cypress than it is for synaptic.
And as for the camera... you can hardly find any other phone within this price range that has a camera without autofocus, and X8 has none

Two forumers have disassembled their phone, and they said it has "cy8ctma340" chip (one of them made a photo that is clearly says it's true). Check Cypress' homepage, and you'll be brightened

One more time, but this will be the last one, because I'm getting tired of this:
X8 has two types of digitizer:
One is the Synaptics (phones wich produced before April has got these), and one is the Cypress type (phones produced AFTER March). So, I'm talking obut the cypress. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about, I read a lot and searched a lot about this!

I never doubted for a second you know what your talking about nor did I suggest other wise, I'm guessing most people have the old type and i know doixanh and blagus have the old type (from there posts), so assuming a good few dev's have the old type that is going slow down development for your multi/dual touch.
It does however, seem strange that SE would change the hardware.

Yeah, I know it. Don't tell me
Sure, I haven't believed my eyes too when I saw the photo of the cypress chip. But it's clear for me now why SE put this type of digitizer in the newer X8s (BTW they've changed the screen too, not just the digitizer, _I_think_. It have more contrast ), and I explained it in an other thread, but I forgot in which.
Oh, and sorry about I was so harsh!
You all know my attempt on fake dual touch (dx no offence but you disconntinued your work for synaptics fake dual touch so i tried to take over but it was like a kick in the balls making it ) So thare were problems some parts of the screen did not respond ... so i discontinued it and stopped working on it i gave up but fake dual touch is gonna be best noone will make it better than dx ... In dx's dual touch thare is game mod now and it is as best as it can... If you all have problems with the dx's dual touch you should practice on multi touch vizualizer and then you will know how it functions ...
I am sorry ya'll.
Is there any reason why you made another topic? Couldn't you write it in your first topic about trying to improve fake DT?
well ok.....no problem, post this in the first thread and @ least release whatever you made.....if you made something ><, thanks

Just wait, I think somebody will someday create real 4-finger touch for Cypress, those who have Synaptics will never get more than fake dualtouch.

We, the "unlucky" ones with Synaptics, have all the chanches to get real DT. Why? Because the digitizer suports real DT (just check datasheets), it's only a problem of firmware/drivers.

I don't think so,cause the bottleneck of synaptics can't handle real DT is not support hardware, not just firmware or drivers.

Nope it supports dual touch in a way as it is a clearpad 2000 as stated by the official synpatics technical support agent.....
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
It's officialy stated that the Clearpad 2000 suports DT via hardware. The problem is that on some digitizers, it's locked via the firmware. That's why I said is a problem of firmware. The possible solution here is to rewrite the firmware, but I guess a development board is needed for that. Without some official sources by Synaptics about firmware, I can't precisly state how to play with firmwares.
I think 2 finger touch enough, but 4 will be nice

The CY8CTMA340-XXX-03 (two-finger support) and CY8CTMA340-XXX-11 (four-finger support) device families are both available today from Cypress. Qualified customers can contact Cypress for more information and to obtain samples.
