Be aware of original S2 battery issue - Galaxy S II General

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cz9ln266aaY
Hi all,
I have posted a youtube link on my S2 battery
It is deformed and used only for 6 months. This is an original battery
Can't believe Samsung can produce such low quality battery.
Pls be informed and check your battery always just in case (who knows it might blow up)

One bad ten million good .
jje

Have mine the same length of time and no such problems, could be a multitude of reasons as to why this happened, a replacement battery doesn't cost that much anyway.

at the end of day, nothing is perfect and samsung arnt the only one to make this mistake but we are talking very slim numbers

true. if it is just battery dead fine but this kind of faulty battery can lead to explosion and a safety hazard

absolutly,if the battery was live and anything was to happen than Samsung will be held liable due to the manufacturing defect in the mean time if anyone does start to have the problem, they should stop using the battery and contact Samsung asap and get them to replace under warranty otherwise it damage your device and worse yourself but were talking probably about 1 or 2% of all made

Sound advice, but as stated there will be a small numer effected.. However, can you contact Samsung regarding this and provide them with the serial number of the battery.... maybe it's a bad batch, they should also replace it under warranty.

i did went to their customer service. since it is out of warranty (by a few days), they don't even want to look at it (although i showed to them how deformed it is). they just say you need to buy a new one
when i just walked away, they have the chick to ask me "hey, aren't you buying the battery"?
sounds like they care about making money and not improving their product

How is it out of warranty if you say it is only 6 months old?? You should get a minimum of 1 years warranty on your phone with the manufacturer.

battery is only 6 months

Yip, you're right, I thought the warranty would be 12 months.... confirmed as 6 months on the below link :

Well... You battery actually looks like something smacked your phone on the back side^^
I can't image a single reason why a Smartphone battery would deform, but I really
recommend switching to an new one because Lithium gets really angry when exposed to fresh air... (I heard there is this official 2000 MAh battery available for like 20 - 30 bucks.... )

damn you really gotta be a unlucky guy, those type of defects on hardware are 1 in a million.
i have the original battery for over 6 months and it stills in perfect conditions.
now i have also the 2000mAh and its also perfect.
now, what i sugest is, buy a new battery and fast, you might risk yourself to get burned or something like that.
if you what an advice, before buying a new battery, think if its better the normal 1650mAh battery or the newer 2000mAh battery.
The newer turns the phone a bit more heavy but gives you better handling and much more time before it drains out all charge.
ps. sorry for my bad english, lol

my guess is abnormal chemical reaction in the battery
just to clarify. i didn't overclock, use stock rom and didn't drop my phone (or battery) at all
sure, i won't use this battery. already removed it. sourcing for replacement now

unlucky - got this 1 in a million defect
lucky - detect it before it explode when talking on the phone (btw, the battery is still functional)

Do you play 3D games while your phone is charging? It looks like classical overheated battery. Happen to my old Nokia too.

The camera work it liable to making you throw up. I did comment to say as much. Either way it's probably one out of a million, which in mass manufacturing is pretty good.

high capacity battery

any word on evo having an official oem high capacity battery? i know there are aftermarket/3rd party batteries floating around but i also hear they dont live up to there advertised power. and to be honest with the replaced backing they take away alot from the look of the phone (not that looks matter for a phone but hey if you have a choice why not go for the better looking?)
searching online i came across: http://database.leakdroid.net/images-post/leakdroid/htc_evo4g_extended_battery.jpg
its branded with htc logo but you loose the kickstand use. it makes the phone thicker but would be nice if i knew i was not going to have access to a charger for some time.
so has anyone heard any official news about battery options for the evo? with the popularity of the device you would think there would be more accessories for the device including batteries?
in case anyone was wondering where that link is from the whole page is here:

I don't get poor enough battery life with the stock battery to warrant turning my phone into that monstrosity.
Try the mugen? Isnt the TP2 the same battery?

Has anyone tried buying a non official battery for their MS2 and care to comment or recommend any? Im going on holiday to france and i know my phone wont last a whole day without charging, so I was thinking of buying a second battery.
I read in another forum that using a non-Motorola battery displays some kind of warning. I'd go with an original battery.

using a non-original battery could have detrimental effects on your phone. there was a discussion on this on the forum of another phone. using a non-original battery could lead to leaks and other problems which would eventually lead to the warranty of your phone being voided.
stick with original motorola products. yes the battery might be very underpowered, but its the safest bet to ensure the longevity of ur phone
With a non original battery, the battery indicator of your phone shows a interrogation symbol. Also, it does not charge with the phone charger.
Sorry my analphabet english xD
@Motorola Milestone 2
bp7x 2300mAh battery
I 'm using a non-original battery . The MOMAX and everything's good ,it feels just like the original one except for battery tempperature sensor. the temp is always 26 in celsius
I personally have used seidio for my milestone and it works like a charm, its the extended 2800mah one it really performs like it should and not like how a lot of people claim thats its way less than stock! It does not always read it correctly but a quick reboot fixes that, like 50% after reboot would usually be about 70-80%. They way i used to use my phone (light to moderate level) would last about 2-3 days but after the extended I got twice that and some more. Just make sure you get stuff from the original manufactures either way and don't go for deals at amazon or whatnot as those guys might be selling either defected or not proprely stored stuff. Batteries are critical components don't go cheap on them! And no, my phone has not been messed up or had any leaks or anything and I have this for about 3-4 months now. The original battery degraded in about 6months if you have to compare.
That sounds promising, does the battery need to be charged with an external charger? And does the milestone complain that you are not using the official bettery

reebooting your phone to get the exact picture also works on the standard battery. my question is, does the back part which houses the battery heat up when used? does the phone get hot during charging? do you need a new battery cover for it? and besides the longer usability, have you noticed any other performance issues on the phone?

Actually the rebooting to get the exact picture is not the same here, a jump to 20-30% on a stock battery? I don't think so. No I never encountered any odd behavior with the other battery. No getting extra hot during charge or use, get the typical little bit of heat while using 3G and browsing like mad but that would happen on the stock battery too. Battery cover for a 2800? of course, that stuff is huge! its protrudes like mad! a quick heads up though, the extended battery for the milestone 1 and 2 can use the same extended batteries. Don't know about the droid x though. Anyways, no performance issues, no heat while charging. The back covers supplied by these after market guys are not the best quality though so if you are someone who loves dropping phones and what not would recommed getting a spare back cover from the guys you get the batts from.

No, I use my original charger and no complains or warnings by the phone. Not on the milestone 1 at least. In fact some times i use my ipod's adapter so no big issue. And it charges at the same pace as the stock, additional 1 hour or whatever. restart the phone to getting a proper reading as it shows 100% but upon restart its 70-80% since only the stock level is charged. I hear this app called battery left does great for calibration.
ALSO a thing to note, I only know of Seidio and Mugen to be relialbe after market battery guys hence their hefty pricing at times. The others claiming to have bigger batteries have cheated people with stickers and what not and usually end up underperforming and degrading considerably faster than burning paper! I remember 1USD batteries for nokias back in the day good for a quick one time run i suppose but these 1USD guys are now selling them with a better branding for like 20-40 USD.
Anyways Sedio and Mugen have facebook profiles and keep people posted on the latest on devices usually there, although its kind of sad since seidio have not followed through promised products at times.

Cool but as I suggested try and get them off the manufactures themselves as I have noticed some people complaining when purchased via 3rd party retailers.
Also another bud of mine had picked up one for the Nexus one, that phones back cover is a full one unlike the moto's and he too can vouch for the products positive performance. Either ways also check out some reviews from amazon.com for peace of mind.

https://picasaweb.google.com/105351366297036719015/DropBox?authkey=Gv1sRgCJna6ZH6hLKxzQE
Wifi was on most of the time, I was using my phone for the usual things. Occasionally checking socialfeeds, engadget, xda every hour or so and internet browsing I played 10 minutes of angry bids. Updated some apps and downloaded a few new ones.
Overall not a significant increase in battery life maybe an hour or so more from what I am used to.

Got Glass today....battery is poor

Not sure what I expected I guess. I found these glasses much more fascinating before I got them. People stare at you when you show up with them. Some are intrigued, some want you to remove them with dealing with you. What I have found is they are a better attachment to my S5 than my Gear 2 watch. Love the heads up text display, etc.

I thought this was a bad idea to do with newer batteries? Notably, either keeping the battery charged at 100% for extended periods (some devices charge to 100% and then let the battery drop down to like 97% then re-charge), or draining it all the way down to/near 0%.
I have heard that as well. In the case of Glass, I got decent battery life the first day or two, but on the third day I took it off of the charger and it reported <10% a few minutes later. Half an hour later it shut itself off and I plugged it in and left it plugged in for the day. I haven't had an issue since; it now lasts me from 5am to 10pm every day.
Others in the Explorers forum report the same "fix" and swear by it.
Be careful to leave it on when charging
Glass, like other devices that use the same technology, need a few full charge-discharge cycles to reach full battery lifetime.
Glass also has the crazy property that they will not charge if they are completely turned off and shut down. Make sure the LED is flashing when you expect them to be charging!
actually, how long you can use that google glass? it suposed to be a day without charging?
I got 4 pairs of glass for $50 because of the home try out program lol. The battery life isn't good however at the same time it's mainly because you can't shut off wifi or Bluetooth without installing glass control

I know that Google initially estimated a battery life of 1 day for 'typical' use, but I suppose that can vary considering not everyone’s "day" is typically the same As we all know, many hi-tech devices, can have a touchy battery life, some which seem surprisingly low for this day and age and some that hold up rather well, regardless of how often we use them. So perhaps it could possibly depend upon the initial charge and/or overall treatment of the device and battery? Also, I believe they did an upgrade to the operating system earlier this year that included improving the battery life, and from what I’ve heard, it’s a bit better than it was before!

Here's one way to get a new battery

My Moto X (2013) is out of warranty and has battery that is weaker and weaker. I checked with a local battery shop (well-known US chain, often located in shopping centers and strip malls). They ordered a replacement battery overnight and replaced the "unreplaceable" battery. Pretty tricky work, I think -- check the iFixit videos and you'll see. Only problem now is a hairline crack the guy made in the back of the phone along the edge. I decided not to worry about it. The guy felt bad, so and waived his labor charge. I felt bad for him, actually.
I suspect when Moto does a factory repair, it just pulls these backs and replaces them.
Anyway, it's great to have a new battery. I prefer my Moto X to any of the current phones, which are all too plasticky or too big, not to mention too expensive.

I don't think u should have depleted it to zero. New batteries like to be recharged alot. If you deplete the battery to less than 10% it goes bad alot quicker. Keep that in mind.

Ugh. I didn't know that. I just wanted to get a clean reading. Oh, well.
How much did it cost approximately?
The original price was $79 (USD) parts and labor, plus $10 overnight shipping. The guy knocked it down to $39 total because of the hairline crack. A lot for a phone battery, I know, but I wasn't willing to take on the job myself.

I don't think that really matters nowadays anymore. They are all lithium ion accumulators now and there it really doesnt matter if you charge it full or not etc.

not sure what your phone's status is (rooted, ROM version, carrier, etc) - but my battery life was fine on 4.4.2 until I unlocked the bootloader and installed the OTA 4.4.4. Then it started going downhill. After trying several custom ROMs (including LP), I was beginning to believe that my battery was dead too. But then after installing 5.1 LP, battery life is back to normal again!
So, it might help to indicate what your phone's status was prior to getting a new battery so that others can reference from there.
Not really sure if this helps, but more of FYI.

My phone's a Moto X 1053 GSM Developer's Edition bought in November 2013. My carrier is TMobile in the USA. I'm running 4.4.4, which I installed as soon as it was released (in Sept. 2014?). Serious battery weakness didn't show up until 3-4 months ago, so that was already some months after the 4.4.4 upgrade.
My phone is unlocked and rooted. I don't play video clips as a rule, nor do I use location services. I haven't been using the battery saver feature, though.
With my new battery, I'm seeing improvement, but I still haven't run the numbers yet. I will do that as soon as I can manage it.
O.K., here are some measurements. "Old battery" refers to my original Moto X battery after 19 months of steady use. "New battery" refers to the OEM battery installed by a technician at a battery store (see above):
In battery saver mode:
OLD BATTERY: 9-10 hours
NEW BATTERY: 18 hours
In normal mode (but still without location or bluetooth):
OLD BATTERY: 6-8 hours
NEW BATTERY: 12-13 hours
I haven't run tests with location or bluetooth on, as I almost never use those.
Any info on the specific battery model?

Actually mlodykaras is right. Modern day lithium ion battery doesn't like to be drained and preferred to be top up well in advance. On the other hand the old NaCD batteries from the 90's have a memory effect and should not be topped up until it's running low.

Turno Charging damage battery lifespan??

As the title suggests will Turbo Charging damage the lifespan of the battery?
I have never had a fast charging phone like this before (Still don't -Yet lol), it seems amazing but surely it must damage the battery lifespan. It can't be good to charge it via the Turbo Charger everyday could it? Are we meant to charge it via Turbo Charger everyday or only when needed type of thing.
Sorry if these questions seem daft they probably are but I am going to search the internet but most of the times you can get better answers on here and people can talk from experience.

Doesn't quickcharge also only kick in when the battery is <25% or something?
Here is a quote from the article :
"Will this shorten the expected lifespan of the battery? Probably not, thanks to the extra intelligence in the charging circuit."
So the answer to the question started by the OP is MAYBE.
Not too convincing to me.
I think it's a lame excuse to place a smaller battery in the phone in an attempt to get us all to buy a new phone more often so as to keep the manufacturer in the black...money wise that is!
I never use these fast/turbo chargers and the phone charges just fine, and stays cool besides.
@jaseman ... the thing is I'm happy with a maybe as I thought it was a deffo yes that it damages battery. (I hope that makes sense lol)
But yeah agree 100% all manufactures limit their devices otherwise there would be no need for people to upgrade. Guess its logical from their view.

If Turbo Charge were an issue. I think we would be seeing many complaints and warnings from users of existing Moto products that already have it.
And anyone with concerns, simply use a regular charger.
Regardless of Turbo Charge or not, the best advice for battery longevity is to charge as often as possible - meaning several charges from 50%+ is better than one 0%+ charge cycle.
I really doubt that they would use technology that would damage or drastically shorten the lifespan of the battery, they are a for profit company after all and purposefully increasing Warranty/MotoCare replacement costs doesn't seem to be in line with making money.

Just the opposite! They want the battery to go bad! It is non-end-user-replaceable. So either you pay to get a new battery installed (which very few people do) or you buy a NEW phone (which everyone is more than happy to do quite often).
It's like the argument over why no manufacturer ever seems to make the perfect phone? (subjective of course)
If they made the perfect phone you wouldn't feel the need to BUY ANOTHER NEW PHONE every few months!
There is NO PROFIT in selling the perfect phone. So instead of giving us great battery life, they give us a gimmick called quick charge, or rapid charge, or better yet...killer charge!

What % of people buy a new phone every few months compared to every year or 2? Like 1% to 99%? You think HTC, Sony or Nokia would rather have their cell phone divisions go under than make the "perfect" phone?
Not to mention, a perfect phone now would not be a perfect phone in 1-2 years with new technology.
