Touch interface Recovery - Kindle Fire General

I remembered seeing a recovery mentioned on the Galaxy S forum that had touch controls. I couldn't remember the name till now. Wondering if someone could port it over to the KF. It makes me nervous modding my device and not having a custom recovery.

Devs are working on a recovery, see other threads in the Development section. I believe possibly Clockwork and TWRP are being looked at as possible solutions. I'm sure they will let us know when they have something for public consumption.

Like sl0ttedpig said, in the development section there is some promising work, my eyes are on firefirefire right now.

Stick to Amon_Ra's recovery image if you have a magic

[EDIT]
Sorry for being rude, I did not mean I do not like cyanogen the person (he is great.) But for the ROMs in the sapphire section that say to use cyanogens recovery that is fine. But it would be REALLY nice if they included "Oh btw this recovery image has a console that is UN-USABLE for the magic because it was made for the g1 and has no soft keyboard. So if you cannot adb your phone (like a lot of people because the drivers are sketchy) you should prob keep using amon_ra's recovery image since you can partition from there.
[EDIT]
If you had actually read the information posted all over the forums and the internet you would know that the mods do not overwrite the boot partition in the phone. So if you go into the restore mode and do a "wipe" and then reboot you would get your phone working again.
Dont blame others for your stupidity...
I didn't directly blame others, I just didn't understand why someone who made a sapphire rom would reccomend using cyanogens recovery image, when it is for the g1 and you CANT access the console.
I did a wipe, the phone will NOT boot, at all. The only way to get a hero rom to boot on my phone is to format and partition the sd card after installing the update.zip. If my sd card is not formatted the ROM won't load... So I am stuck.
I don't get how people can install roms w/ out partitioning their SD again because it does not work for me.
Sorry for being blunt, and upset. But my phone does not work anymore, and it is very frustrating because windows won't detect my mytouch. I have installed all the drivers, so can you please help instead of critizing me??
I need drivers for the t-mobile mytouch that actually work on xp sp-2. Or since I cannot boot how can I flash a different recovery image to the phone? Can I do it w/ an update.zip?
Okay now here is what is happening...
I got adb finally, and it will only get to recovery it says
adb devices
blahblah recovery
I try to type
fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.2.1G.img
Then I get < waiting for device >
And it just hangs forever! Why? Please help me...
Actually cyanogens recovery does let you fromat sd without console. It works on dream and magic. I used it on my buddys mt3g yesterday.
Next option.....and here is the kicker.......use sd reader to reformat and partition the card and copy over new update.zip. BTW you must have an older recovery since all current ones have the update choose zip option. Also search for rav 1.2 recovery.
nice how people diss the devs when they dont understand what they`re doin in the first place!
Cyanogen is THE MASTER!
Mods PLease close this thread, Thank you!!!!
Put your hate on your own stupidity fool!!!
The developers does a great favor for all of us sharing there work.
WTF... I meant I hate cyanogens recovery console.. Not his forum moniker!
I appreciate all his work greatly, he is a genius.
"Actually cyanogens recovery does let you fromat sd without console"
Where??
For now I am sticking to Amon RAs recovery, and unless it is clear how to format the SD without a soft keyboard in the recovery console others should be reccomended to do the same.
So typical to think I am trolling, when I was just frustrated with the fact it is RECOMMENDED to use cyanogens recovery. There is NO soft keyboard for the console, so what is the point if you own a magic?
yakovich, how stupid are you?
You try to fastboot in recovery mode.
Idiot.
Have you ever heard the word "spl"?
Why are you flaming me?
If you even attempted to read what I said at the time -- I could not fastboot because I did not have adb or shell or anything. And I had a terminal (cyanogen recovery only) that has no SOFT keyboard (you know the magic doesn't have a keyboard right?) I had to install ubuntu on a different machine to get my phone to boot.
Yako, if you were smart you would either delete this whole thread or edit the title. you are coming across as an ass.
LOL... I know, it was REALLY my fault.
You guys all know the shear frustration I was facing at the time, and I hope you can all forgive me for coming off as crass and ignorant. It was really my mistake, and I'm glad it happened because I figured out a much better way of partitioning w/ shell.
I will make it up, in time... promise. I rly <3 this forum.
I can undesrtand your frustration and can appriciate the honesty. But nice to see you changed the topic of this thread to be more constructive so the rest of us will be able to see it as useful information!
And as you wrote "'m glad it happened" you probably learned a alot. Most important is that your mobile isn't bricked

Why close the thread? People whether right or wrong arent alowed to vent thier frustrations while asking for help? There have been many many messages like i tried to flash this 32a on my G1 please help... yes they should have read what they were about to do first but we still try and help or tell them thier phone is FUBAR.. You guys with your name on roms are getting a little swelled in the head i think thats my opinion and im entitled to it. You tweak roms whoopie.. you can't even write code to get bluetooth to work so to me that means all you do is tweak someone elses work.. thier ive vented. now you can close the thread and/or ban me for speaking out too.
I agree, Amon_Ra's is much easier to use and ment for the sapphire/MT3G that doesn't have the hard keyboard while the cyanogen is better suited for the G1 which does have the physical keyboard.

It seems to me you're trying to run the fastboot commands from the recovery image, but they're two different things. Fastboot work when you boot with POWER+BACK into fastboot, if you can't get there it seems you might have messed up flashing the SPL?

What am I missing?

I am a moderate to complete noob and confused on something at the moment.
I rooted using the downgrade version and then unrevoked3 (followed the steps in djr3z video guide exactly). I have had no problems flashing roms/kernels etc, but cannot seem to change the splash screen. I am tired of having a white torch in my hand every time I boot up my phone so I would like to change it. My phone shows "s-off," so what more am I missing? If someone could point me in the right direction of what to do I would greatly appreciate it even though I know this is a beginner question and has been talked about previously.
Thanks fellas.
In the "themes and apps" section, there are several threads with boot screens on them. You download the one you want, place it on your SD card, and flash it using clockwork or Amon recovery. It's quite simple, really.

Fallback for mistakes?

I was just wondering if there is a fallback if something is messed up during the root process or installing kernals or ROMs or other fun stuff? nandroids, SBF files etc..?
I want to root my TF, but ive been trying to figure out if I were to be stuck god forbid something happens...
any insight would be appreciated!
i would like to know this ass wel. I have had a lot of custom roms etc. At my glaxy S, and if something went wrong, i would just flash it back to stock using odin. Is there something like that for the transforner?
check out the thread "transformer secure key found" thread in the dev section. i'm not gonna pretend i know how the whole thing works exactly, but it seems now the we have the key to the TFs flashing mechanism, all that's needed is a tool to use it, and that can be used as an unbricker of sorts.
so you want to go the super safe route before rooting, you might want to watch the progress of that thread.
I don't need a signature.
I have seen on the TF IRC channel #asus-transformer that the developer RaYmaN intends to release "unbrick" software and instructions this weekend. He has at least two successful TF "unbricks" with his nvflash software already. He is also the developer associated with the "transformer secure key found".

Check the android development subsection on methods for rooting your device. From there, install a custom recovery, and research the process of flashing custom ROMs.
That's the gist of it. I would recommend spending a couple hours reading thoroughly before jumping in to it. There are countless threads around here answering any questions you will have. Research them.
First I want to say I'm not a rocket surgeon, I've done this successfully before but I've also bricked a device (not the GS4) this will void your warranty and there is the possibility that your phone may become unusable. Just be careful, have fun and read up!

That link will help you out with getting root access. After you have root access download Rom Toolbox from the play store. After you'vedownloaded and gone through the introduction you will be in the main menu, go Tools>Rom Management>Manage>Flash Recovery. A few options for recoveries will probably pop up I now use TWRP it is a great touch interface but in the past I have used CWR and it is fine as well, it's all personal preferance but for the most part my directionswill be for TWRP. Click one and it will flash it and reboot. If you ever want to get into recovery after this you simply hold down volume up and home while rebooting or powering up (there will be blue text in the top corner of the splash screen when button combo is successful)
Next you will want to look through the xda forums for your device, in the original developement section you will find threads labeled [ROM] anything that is built from CM10.1 (Cyanogenmod) or AOSP (Android open source project) or AOKP (Android open kang project) will all have a very stock Android, minimalist interface. You download one of these along with the Gapps files (google addons) and put it on your SD card where you can easily find it later.
Reboot into recovery and MAKE A BACKUP! It will be in the backup and restore option. Then you will want to wipe some of the partitions the steps for that are a little bit recovery specific, but I recommend a full wipe if you are going from touch wiz to source built. That means I would wipe /system, /data, cache, and dalvik cache (in TWRP it's easy just put x in the box beside those options in advanced wipe)
Now go back to main menu and click install, navigate to the ROM you put on your sd card select it and swipe to flash. Then do the same with Gapps. After all is done and it is reported as installation successful reboot the phone. First boot might hang for a while on the boot animation after the splash screen (some times it's over 10 minutes) be patient it will eventually fire up.
If something goes wrong or you don't like it you can always boot back into recovery and Restore the old software with the backup (nandroid) you made n before flashing.
Hopefully this was helpful.
You would think be able to update it as soon as google releases it. You will have to wait for it to be ported over. This is not a nexus. You will have ever to wait for developers also if it is the exynos device there will always be issues that can't be fixed with aosp roms. S

twrp vs Rom manager

Hello, I am rooted on tmobile. Does it matter which one I use. I'm not comfortable with adb. I noticed Rom manager on Google play, will that work just as well? Thanks
ive searched the android development section but nothing useful came up regarding whether or not rom manager works. is cwm and rom manager the same? im a little new to this
ROM manager is a android app to interface with a phones recovery software allowing operations to be carried out initiated from android rather than having to immediately reboot into the recovery software.
Because of this you NEED BOTH ROM manager AND a recovery software for ROM manager to be useful, this question doesn't really have an answer, unless you wish to use a recovery software without the app, which i'd guess a large portion of people do.
There are two predominantly popular recovery softwares (aside from the default android recovery and manufacturer specific recoveries), one is the Clockwork Mod Recovery and the other is the Team Win Recovery Project. Both recoveries are fairly similar in basic functionality, however, CWMs UI is a bit more clunky than TWRP, hence the need for an app like ROM manager.
ROM manager also has some additional functionality aside from just interfacing the recovery to an app, some functionality includes updatong the recovery software, downloading and updating custom roms and much more.
I hope this helps. Also, you posted this in the wrong subforum but ehh.

It's not that simple due to or current bootloader situation. Read in the development thread about installing either one. Most are using twrp because it was first with a good guide. Goomanager is also I'm the store, which installs twrp, but I'm not sure that it's actually available within the program

Thank you both for the input. I will read more into this
