Hello, I am rooted on tmobile. Does it matter which one I use. I'm not comfortable with adb. I noticed Rom manager on Google play, will that work just as well? Thanks
ive searched the android development section but nothing useful came up regarding whether or not rom manager works. is cwm and rom manager the same? im a little new to this
ROM manager is a android app to interface with a phones recovery software allowing operations to be carried out initiated from android rather than having to immediately reboot into the recovery software.
Because of this you NEED BOTH ROM manager AND a recovery software for ROM manager to be useful, this question doesn't really have an answer, unless you wish to use a recovery software without the app, which i'd guess a large portion of people do.
There are two predominantly popular recovery softwares (aside from the default android recovery and manufacturer specific recoveries), one is the Clockwork Mod Recovery and the other is the Team Win Recovery Project. Both recoveries are fairly similar in basic functionality, however, CWMs UI is a bit more clunky than TWRP, hence the need for an app like ROM manager.
ROM manager also has some additional functionality aside from just interfacing the recovery to an app, some functionality includes updatong the recovery software, downloading and updating custom roms and much more.
I hope this helps. Also, you posted this in the wrong subforum but ehh.

It's not that simple due to or current bootloader situation. Read in the development thread about installing either one. Most are using twrp because it was first with a good guide. Goomanager is also I'm the store, which installs twrp, but I'm not sure that it's actually available within the program

Thank you both for the input. I will read more into this

This is no longer an issue. A replacement phone is being shipped. If there is a way that the moderators can delete this thread, thank you in advance.
Hi everyone,
I'm very new to this forum, and to doing anything root wise on a phone. Here's my situation:
I'm using a rooted LG P509 (Optimus T), and tried to install a theme meant for the Nexus One (kind of why I'm posting here for help). The theme used was obtained here, it's the Lucid theme. I tried to install the theme using the latest version of clockworkmod in the Android Market. Everything went well, or so it seems, and I was asked to reboot my phone. I allowed the phone to reboot and now it's stuck on the LG symbol. I've (1) taken the battery out, (2) placed it back into the phone, (3) pressed the home, volume down, and power keys at the same time to get to recovery mode, and that doesn't work.
I now know that themes meant for certain phones should be used for the intended device. At the time I figured because I used clockworkmod, that it would work despite the difference in hardware.
I'm wondering if there's a way to get my phone back to normal? Thank anyone in advanced for helping this noob.
---
I've also asked for help in the forum where the theme was obtained.
you need to flash a custom recovery via ADB or fastboot, then data wipe(factory reset) your phone and reflash whatever rom you were on. if maybe you can get a recovery or ADB working, then your phone will be fine. flashing a nexus one theme onto your Optimus T isnt one of the brightest ideas. i would never consider trying to flash a theme from another similar phone onto my nexus, let alone a completely different phone.
If you have questions about using adb, there's a couple of helpful stickies up, make sure you read everything, but its pretty straightforward. And as Simms said, bad idea trying to cross themes.
I'll read the threads on ADB. Thanks guys.
Were you using ROM Manager? Or flashing manually via flash_image? Otherwise I don't know what you mean by Clockworkmod in the Market.
I suspect your phone never even got as far as flashing the theme. If you tried to flash Clockworkmod recovery, that's enough to mess up your phone, because you probably flashed a version intended for completely different hardware.
Now that you've borked the recovery partition, you probably need to get it into some sort of "download mode" that can interface with LG's proprietary software for reflashing phones. This would all be best dealt with in the Optimus One (P500) forum.

Clockworkmod should have an icon of a black hat with an orange cog for a head.
I did attempt to flash a theme intended for different hardware.
The several computers I've gone on haven't recognized the phone, and my attempts to place any file on the SD card proved futile. Since the phone is under warranty, I called the store I purchased it from, and they're going to ship a replacement.
The icon you describe is the icon I see for ROM Manager. Clockworkmod itself is not an app you can download from the market but rather a partition you flash that has to be written for the exact hardware. Unless there's something you saw in your Market that I can't see in mine.
From within ROM Manager you can flash Clockworkmod. But if you flashed a version of Clockworkmod meant for other hardware, I'm willing to bet *that* mangled your phone, regardless of what you attempted to use it for..
Anyway, glad you're getting a replacement.

Interesting, LG will let you replace the phone even though you've clearly rooted it and caused the problems? Of all people, I'm surprised LG lets you do that. You've stated that it's under warranty but what you done should've voided the warranty. You sure they're okay with replacing your phone like that?
Hello, I'm trying to manage these ROMs/kernels/firmwares/images/loaders/etc, and I'm having a lot of difficulty.
I came from a storm 1, and I'm used to a win32 app called "shrink a OS" or the blackberry commander. these would take care of flashing/debloating and everything for you.
at any rate, I'm rooted and I have adfree and titanium and rom manager loaded on the phone. but I'm ready to try and get the latest stuff going. I have DI01 loaded from OTA with 2.1 - so the phone guts are still very stock.
I have one final question: is it possible to brick the galaxy S/fascinate? because on a storm 1, it was not possible to brick it - you could always force push a working ROM to the pin over USB, and it would be reloaded no matter the condition of the phone. this is why I really am hoping for a win32 app so I can not spend too many hours with tweaking!!!
cheers
MOD EDIT - Thread moved to general forum as not related to development
ahh I thought it would be, as it directly relates to implementing development stuff for me, as illustrated by my storm 1 experience
oh well.
any help GREATLY appreciated!
thanks!
Short answer: no, there is no such program.
Long answer: my guess is that's because most people prefer managing things on their phone. One of the much-maligned aspects of the iPhone is how it's inseparably tied to your computer (specifically to iTunes), while Android has been lauded for not needing a computer for anything at all. Obviously, here in the modding world you need a computer to flash a new recovery (and modem if you want) via Odin, but once that's done, everything can be managed on-the-go through ROM Manager. This is just my personal opinion, but it would seem very 90's to have to plug in my phone each time I want to switch ROMs.
Also, it's worth noting you don't have to manually debloat if you put an already-debloated ROM on to begin with. So really, all you have to do if you already have ROM Manager setup is flash the DJ05 or DL09 modem in Odin, which you should know how to do from flashing the recovery ROM Manager depends on; and then install a DJ05/DL09 kernel and ROM right on the phone through recovery or ROM Manager.
I have an iconia tab getting shipped to me as of this post. I fairly knowledgeable about rooting and roms ( have done many roms and recovery from my cell phone).
I am sorry if some was explained on different threads, figured I would just ask them all here.
Since I haven't messed with the os at all, is there a lot of advantages from stock os to custom os?
Is there any reason to create a ext partition on sd.?
Is custom recovery installed easy, hopefully not uninstall to easy.?
Is there anyways to get data from Titanium backup on the tablet.
I am sure I may have a few more questions when I receive the tablet.
Any help on these questions would be great.

All your questions are answered in the forums. You'll get your answers MUCH faster if you follow the rules and actually search before asking.
To be helpful, I'll give you ONE of the answers.
Custom recovery is very easy to install IF you don't have a 3.2.1 ROM preinstalled. If you have this version, you can still install but it's a more complex process. Read the guides in the development section and DO NOT attempt to use ROM manager or a generic CWM.
if you root you can use drivemount to be able to use external hd's formatted in ntfs. Which is the reason I rooted.
1. There's no general answer, as it depends on the ROM you use (some are more-or-less stock, others aren't even based on Acer stock)
2. I haven't had any reason to do anything like that, as I keep basically only my apps (with their data) and my linux chroot on the internal memory... Other than that, search the forum for instructions on how to switch internal <-> external memory (just a config hack, nothing spectacular and completely reversible)
3. It used to be almost ridiculously easy, but a recent update made it more complex. Details are in the forum (and partly in FloatingFatMan's post above).
4. As Titanium backup even runs fine on ICS, you'd expect it to work on HC... which it does.

I did do a some searches already , and found a lot of information. The people here are always helpful so I thought instead of just asking one question that I didn't know the answer to I would ask all of them I had.
To be honest I do love loading roms and enjoy the phone rooted atm, but a tablet is much more expensive device and want to try to avoid any conflicts with roms (There are so many I do not know where to start).
Here is my plans on the tablet atm.
Root it, load custom recovery (Clockwork?)
Doing a Nandroid backup of stock rom.
Loading Titanium backup and possibly transfering some data from the phone SD to acer sd, such as psx roms, and other misc stuff.
will look into different roms and see what works for my needs and hopefully avoid the rom cycle that I see with phone roms ,( Seems 3 month and support drops and different projects happen).
Plan on trying stock rom a little rooted before going into custom roms.
This is my current plan, but if anyone else has some suggestions that would be great.

No, actually its still really easy you just have an extra step.
download the 3.0 downgrade
place it on sd card root directory
reboot holding volume down and power
?????
profit!
after that, just run iconiaroot and acer recovery installer (install both before downgrading) and you're golden, root with CWM. flash a rooted 3.2.1 stock or custom, its that easy.
you are right about one thing though, you can easily find the answer to every question in this thread on these forums.
edit- also, TC, i've found the most stable and functional roms to be stock. i ran a few customs (the best of which was flexstriker) but always found stock to run better and be the most stable, both the rooted 3.2.1 a500 rom and the rooted 3.2.1 a200 port have been great for me. you can go custom if you want, I'm just putting in my two cents.
Hi!
I'm new here but I've been searching and reading for a while about how to flash a ROM in my A500.
I've already rooted it, but the battery doesn't run as long as it did when it wasn't rooted so I thought about flashing a ROM.
Here's my doubt, I don't use ir for very special purposes, I just use it for browsing on the Internet and such things like this. In your opinion, installing a ROM would be the solution? If so, which one would you recommend me to flash? I've readed about Thor one but I'm not quite sure about it.
Moreover, I've been reading how to flash a ROM but the most I read, the worst it is. Depending on where I read it says something different. So, on the whole, can somebody link me to a good tutorial which I could follow? I've just rooted it, but I've done nothing about the bootloader or the recovery.
Thanks to everybody.

Rooting the tab has nothing to do with your battery life. All it does, is allow you access to the protected system of the OS. If you have no need to "experiment" with custom ROMs, and don't like to mess around with things, then it's probably best if you left it alone. If not done properly, installing new bootloaders and Recovery images can lead to a lot of time consuming problems. Just read the Q&A threads about "bricked" devices. Although Dev's try to make things as easy and trouble free as they can, problems can and do happen.
As with your battery, Take a look at Settings/Apps/Running. See how many you have running. It's possible you have some apps that are running when they don't need to. Also apps you downloaded (FB apps, Social networking, News apps etc). These apps do "synchs" and "updates" and too many of them, and also widgets, can use a lot of battery. If possible, set the synch or update period to a longer time. Instead of 5 minutes for a FB update, set it to 30. You would be surprised how much this helps.

The problem is that nothing was changed after the rooting (except the installation of Whatsapp) and after this, the battery life is, moreless, half of the original was. I've been looking in the task killer and there are plenty of apps which are auto-executed, and even if I kill them, they are still running. So my idea is to install a ROM like the Thor one, with no apps installed by default by Acer and this should make the battery last longer.
Now, what I'm not sure is what is the exact process. Correct me if I'm mistaked. What I should do first is to unlock the bootloader, shouldn't I? (Any tuto?) After this, I should install the Acer Recovery Installer app which would help me to install the recovery and after this I have to copy the .zip file to the SD card and, from the recovery menu, flash it. Is everything correct?
Thanks to everybody.
EDIT: I've already read somewhere else a ver "easy" step by step tuto. It only consists of installing an app called ROM Manager. From it install the recovery ClockworkMod and, from the recovery ClockworkMod, flash the ROM. Will this tuto work for the Iconia A500?

DO NOT INSTALL OR USE ROM MANAGER. You will brick your tablet. That app,is made for phones, and phones only.
What you need to do, is go to Civato's thread on how to install the unlocked Bootloader & Recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
It's best to download a custom rom.zip to your ext Sd card first, that way after doing bootloader and recovery, you can install the new rom.
As always, follow all instructions, and read them many times till you understand what you're doing. If you have a question, ask the question in the correct thread (bootloader questions in the bootloader thread, rom install questions in the Rom thread, etc)
Good Luck

Hello to all forum members. :highfive:
Recently I got into my hands the Samsung S4 SGH-I337 version of AT&T, at least I think so. The current version of Android on it is 5.0.1.
When I set the phone to recovery mode, I think I see the modem version: I337UCSGOK3. Correct me if this is not the modem version, but I am sharing it because I guess this information will be helpful to make alternative software installation.
I've already spent 7 days trying to change the software, reading one by one what I will find about such an update. I tried tons of instructions and they all didn't let me do upload/change somehow software nor even install TWRP.
Tried to upload TWRP (I think I found 6 different files) using different applications from the original Android system - Failed. ie. I used TWRP straight from the system, I also used Flashify. When I use this Flashify app I installed TWRP, but it didn't let my phone go into recovery mode, it just went straight to the download. For me it looks like there is something to not let flash/change this to TWRP.
I tried to upload TWRP via ODIN, it doesn't work, it crashes during installation with error messages.
I also tried to upload lineageos version lineageos.17.1.recovery.img via the normal recovery mode, but every time I try I get an error about the signature not matching.
I tried to upload the software by ADB, I have had connection, I was able to see the phone, but I can only use adb sideload recover.img command and although I tried different images and .zip files, unfortunately nothing works. I think I also get an error that the signature does not match.
Can I ask you for some hints, maybe some instructions that will really work. Many instructions were based on specific versions of the bootloader, is what I called the modem above maybe I named this wrong and this is the bootloader version? If so, does anyone know about the instructions for this version of the bootloader? It seems to me after my problems that it is strangely blocked. Maybe someone knows how to make it work. I would like to change the software to change the system language to Polish. Unfortunately, the apps: MoreLocale2 and Language Enabler and probably about 4 others from the play store are not working.
Of course, the phone is rooted with Kingoroot, the applications detect that there is root, after all, after selecting the Polish language, it does not work in the system.
I would like to change Androind 5.x to LineageOS, because there you can do much more and it works better, more efficiently and saves battery. And I will be able to change language defenetly.
this is not the first time when I do that things. I have changed the regular S4 jfltexx many times, this is not the slightest problem for me.
Summarizing:
1. I would like to change the language to Polish, if it doesn't work or it won't be possible, it's a waste of time or something else
2. I would like to unlock the bootloader and upload TWRP, it can be CWM if anyone knows it will work and has an instruction that I can test
3. Then I would like to upload lineageos.
I'd appreciate any hints to test these things above.
On page:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81418691&postcount=29
I read that it will be possible to upload TWRP, but if it is a special version of TWRP prepared for this phone. Will someone be so nice and tell me if something like this exists and if so, where can I find such TWRP for uploading via ODIN.
Thank yo all for your time spending to read this.:good:
PS: Dear Moderators if this thread is not in proper place please correct this. Thank you.
Those instructions are for another bootloader. Your bootloader is locked, which is why TWRP won't install. There is no way to unlock it or downgrade. You also can't boot AOSP based ROM like Lineage OS. What you can do is root the phone and install touch wiz based ROM like Golden eye ROM by using the flash fire app if you're on lollipop or safe strap recovery if you're on kit kat.

Big Thank You for your suggestion and answer on my question.:good:
Right now I have Lolipop installed on the phone so related to this above I can only install something with touchwiz. Hope it will let me to change language to the Polish.
Would you be able to point me some links to instruction, please. I try to find this on forum but failed (getting ROM for nintendo). At least links to the software so I can try using flashfire app. The best it will be instruction, as I have situation in which when I use this app phone want boot after. Maybe it was related to the software, which I shouldn't use or maybe I do this in not proper way.
For everything what I get I'm saying thank you. :highfive:
No problem, I help when I can. The flash fire app you can get from the Google play store I believe, but your phone might need a specific version like the Verizon S4 does I don't know. The touch wiz ROMs are in this forum under Android development, go there and you should see ROMs like golden eye which is a touch wiz based ROM.
Here's a link that might help you, but the S4 is an old phone so it's hard to find links and guides that aren't buried deep in the forum posts.

Let me check this and back with the details what is working.
Alright man, good luck! I may not be able to help much further though, as I now have a Galaxy S10 and my S4 is just my storage phone, but I can try if it's something I know.
