How safe does your x10 look?

Its been mentioned in the q&a section about ciq.....
Seems its not on custom x10 roms...there is an app to check and from what i have read at least wolfs rom is clean...

yep, and imagine how many end users dont root their phones and such..
its kinda sickening you need to be rooted just to even get rid of bloatware.

I would not be shocked if a developer would find the same crap out of a i-phone.
The fact that it's even there.. is a shock.. why is it there.. who distributed it.. who approves such a thing..
Seriously handset developers sold the phones already all containing it...
I smell mordor farts..

Since stock doesn't have it, WB ROM doesn't have it.

I could be wrong.
But that means...
Out of 20 of my friends... only I and one other friend have rooted.
So now that the JIG is up will phone manufacturers remove the trojan?

I've stock SE, run Logging checker by Treve and on CIQ checks it says "Check complete" and no aps is listed, so I think stock SE hasn't CIQ
Or am I wrong?

CIQ is bundled in kernel, firmware contains only parts of it apparently.
Also here you can read the official statement from the company itself.
My personal opinion, according to everything I've experienced so far in real life,
the truth is always somewhere in the middle.
I am not a big fan of "hyper-hypes", if you will.
I certainly think that legally it is not right to collect any personal data without user's acknowledgement but, if you ask me, CIQ is hardly the Rootkit Of All Evil.
And don't jump into the conclusion that I do not have respect for personal privacy, because I really, really do.
To me, however, posting photos on Facebook and having Facebook recognise faces and suggest which friends to tag
(which means that they don't just collect numbers and statisticks, they get to know our FACE, the thing that singles out the most as individuals.)
is much, much more horrifying and orwellian than HTC or any other mobile company knowing when my device crashed, a call dropped or what launcher do I use.
I've looked through the CIQ reports and findings by TrevE and while I fully recognise the achievement, the effort and the skills of said developer,
I fail to see the "evil" part in the extend that it's been presented lately.
It certainly looks bad, but I just can't bring myself to panic over it.
Also now there's a paid app that will supposedly remove logging from some devices. I am not sure I like that.
Someone will make money out of this and maybe, just maybe, has motive to want to keep users in panic, fear and uncontrollable rage over this.
Of course, I could be totally wrong, but still, it's something to think about.
And last but not least, panic and sciolism has never ever been a good advisor nor they will be. EVER.

Sassi knows best

To me the point is you are paying exorbitant prices for cell phones only to have companies planting spyware and selling your private info to make even more money than you initially paid for the phone..
I'm shocked that I read a lot of people that are alright with this.
Does no one see what this kind of breach of our personal freedom leads to?

i asked a question, i wasn't dissing the devs. it just pisses me off that the hero is considered an ancient phone in less than a year and the vogue is 3 years old and has more development.
and before anybody asks...yes i left the evo after a week for 3 reasons.
1.) too slow of development.
2.) you have to disable everything to get half way decent battery life.
3.) the $10 extra is a joke when i have no 4g.

3.) 10 bucks is gay

Every carrier will have some extra charge for "4G". Every carrier is now at some sort of "cap" for their data as well. Everyone wants something new without the extra $10. So you want 4G in your area, but you don't want to help pay to develop it.... typical American thinking, everything must come free.

Ha, thanks man. You do nice work yourself IMHO, there's still a pretty solid core around here.
So can someone enlighten me on what hasn't been done yet???
I mean as far as I know, devs didn't have to rewrite drivers from scratch (With the exception of the touch drivers)
I just have a hard time figuring out what they are doing that we haven't already done...i am sure if you would say "Hey vogue guys have this - and it would be cool to have" someone would look at it...but no one here has the need to run Ubuntu or windows mobile ports so what are you complaining about???
I wouldn't mind running another Linux port when I'm through with my hero. It would be nice to be able to run backtrack but alas that is only a dream. Aside from that anything that I'd ever want or need has been so graciously provided for by the amazing devs and if it hasn't there is probably a guide or tut out there for how to do it on my own Cheers to the awesomeness that is xda!

If it was free, anyone who wanted it could have it. Sounds like Communism to me.
lol Im very proud of the work that our devs have done..and thank them any chance i get..for without them what would we have? I may not like some of the extra stuff on some roms.. but at least they give a damn to put something out for those who do!!Its all bout choices..which in my eyes we have plenty for our hero.. like sense..well go try out one of many roms based off it.. like stock android..go get darchdroid...<----my fav by the way...

Android 3

I just got off the phone with T-Mobile tech support(I was transferred 2 times to the ACTUAL AMERICAN TECH SUPPORT, not just some phone center....so I think ). I was asking about something I saw on their website.
support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm24233.xml?&A2L.SERVICE=FeatureSummary
It says at the bottom of the page that the G2 has an FM radio. I asked them about it and he said it did have the hardware, but it will not be functional until the G2 gets updated to Android 3. (or unless you mod with CM 6.1)
So I don't know if this has been said before, but the G2 is getting Android 3 for sure!
Call tech support and direct them to that webpage and ask for an explanation if you want proof...
interesting. too bad t-mobile sucks where i live. hopefully it doesn't take them as long to release a mod for this as it did for the epics tv-out.
Good I don't know why but I want that on fone lol
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The Virtuous ROM also has FM Radio enabled in it. Used it tonight to try it out, and it's pretty slick actually. Of course, you need to use headphones to act as the antenna also, but that's the same for most phones. Sounds really clean.
I just hope it comes soon to stock cause my wife won't let me mod her G2 and she really likes my FM radio in my G2.
I could be wrong, but I'm guessing it'll be in Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), and the person on the other end of the phone didn't realise that Gingerbread is 2.3 not 3.0.

Exactly my thoughts, lets worry about Gingerbread 2.3, before we can even think about 3.0
FM TRANSMITTER would be far more useful. I believe that this device *does* have a transmitter. Its all in the BT chip. Hopefully 2.3 unlocks TRANSMIT.

Um, no. Controlling your wife has nothing to do with confidence. She knows I know what Im doing as I have modded numerous phones and computers and work in IT. WOW! Someone is super defensive! That wasnt meant as an insult... Sheesh, you have no sense of humor. Who said anything about controlling your wife or gf? I said convincing... not telling/controlling. And if she doesn't trust you to mod her phone, she must know how unskilled or clumsy you are. Its that obvious that you cant even change oil or do anything correctly when it comes to mechanics/tech. If I can see that from a simple conversation, she knows this too. You need to explain to her that you can still send your phone back even if you brick it. They only charge you if there is physical/liquid damage. the other stuff they cant prove. I'm not talking about a phone stuck in a bootloop where you can see a modded boot screen flashing over & over. thats too obvious. bricks wont turn on. spl corrupted. stuff like that... been there, done that. but I guess thats understandable and a bit hard to explain to your wife. especially if she's the type to buy extended warrenties. again, I wasn't trying to be a jerk but simply dont understand the trust issues you guys have. either that or you're just p whipped. Dont feel too bad. so many guys are these days. may be one day your testicles will descend and your wife might respect and trust you enough to do simple things like flashing a rom on her phone. She might quit cheating on you too!

Improvements included with Android 2.3.3 update
1. Improved and extended support for NFC – this allows applications to interact with more types of tags and access them in new ways. The new APIs have included wider range of tag technologies and allow limited peer to peer communication.
Also it has a feature for developers to request Android Market to not to show their applications to users if the device does not support NFC. In Android 2.3 when an application is called by a user and if the device does not support NFC it returns a null object.

So OP, explain to me again how much it really matters that we might be "one up'd" or "beaten" by the Epic?
meh, just a revision tick. HTC included a few things from 2.3.4 in our update already.
I was using gtalk video chat all the time so that my daughter could talk face-to-face with my mom, who lives 8 hours away. She doesn't have a phone with a front-facing camera, so being able to vchat phone-to-computer was awesome. Just another reason I'm pissed about not being able to root. And no, I did not accept the OTA.
All the respondents apparently aren't hip to the ongoing discussion of Sammy versus HTC.
I think I could shed some light...
In many threads throughout the forum there have been countless debates, SGSii or 3d, Nexus S 4g or ed or evo, and many other related discussions. One of the largest arguing points in each and every one of the threads has been that HTC keeps there devices updated AND that HTC is quicker to bring updates to devices... siting that Samsung is slow to update, if at all.
I think the point the OP is trying to make here is that HTC would concede to Samsung on that point in this situation. I think it matters very little what type of update it is, it's the point of the matter that is relevant.
Anyhow... hope that helps.
What's with the guy who said "I already got 2.3.4"... what a MOE'Ron. That's great dude, yeah you're rooted and on a custom rom like NEARLY EVERYONE ELSE is in this community. What's your point? Im speaking from experience, usually Samsungs updates create more problems than it solves. I really don't care if they got 2.2.3, watch it also break something on the phone also.

Stop being a douche. He had a question. If you don't have anything constructive to add, move on.
Now back on topic. Personally I am not too concerned about them getting the update since I am going to the EVO3D on Fri. any way. Most people that care about what 2.3.4 brings already have it cause they rooted and installed it.

Seems like he is mad

Well, I've been reading Google news and i saw this. http://www.pcworld.com/article/237339/google_shows_how_not_to_complain_about_the_patent_mess.html
HTML:
looking at the comments, makes me lol. Seems like some Apple fans
True, but Apple doesn't pay for its OS, it actually makes it, unlike Google, they bought it, shoved a bunch of stolen tech from other companies, repackaged it as "Google invention" and gave it away. Remeber, MS is making the bulk of manufacturers pay them between $5 and $10 per handest, then you add in Apple's cut, RIM's cut, Oracle's cut and whomever else's cut from each phone sold and you see their profits decline even further. Also MS makes more money off Android than Google does in Ads, kind of sad isn't it. To me Android does not make any sense to hang onto as a manufacturer, its not a viable and sustainable OS, its fragmentation is a joke, and the security is laughable. The only reason they sell these cheap plastic knockoffs are because of two reasons, and two resons only, first its free or darn cheap and second, it's not made by Apple. In its simpliest terms, that is the only reasons why.
Android sold people on the fact that it is so called open and free, its not, at all, but most people bought into that idea. Why? because Google told them so, so people beleived it. Truth is, Android is the worst Mobile OS in history when it comes to fragmantation, malware, trojans, viruses, and a slew of other problems. More so than ANY phone on the market, worse than Windows Mobile. Heck, I'd go as far as to say Android is neck and neck with the windows desktop OS when it comes to security threats and like I said, its the ONLY mobile OS to have this big of a problem. If you call having to install an anti-virus program on a mobile free and open, then you can have it.]

First couple lines there made me think he was talking about Apple, not Google.
Unfortunately these type of people read something, take it into some wild theory, and then spew it out for others to digest.
You can tell he's the type that you couldn't convince the earth was round if he believed its flat.

If he knew a little better the history behind Apple he would know that Steve Jobs stole the OS from BSD. So in reality, who really is the real thief here? LOL

HTC EVO Roms

There should be a lot more developers out there who can make better Roms or dump other stock Roms onto devices not just the EVO 4g, but some of these developers half way do a project than stop or give up which pisses me off ..only good working ROM in my opinion is MikG everything else is pretty much lame .. Comments?

That's your opinion. There is a reason we have dozens of roms for the evo, cause people like them. I flash a new rom every week or so. I have yet to find one that is "pretty lame".
If you aren't happy, make your own! Don't ***** at the devs that build the roms on their free time and let you run em for FREE. Hence the word free. Be appreciative for something once in your life!

I guarantee theres no other place other than XDA that you will find android developers better than the ones here, these guys dont have to share their expertise with you or anyone else for that matter, these guys work hard to give this community the best.As the guy above said,if your not happy with the development here, then develope a rom yourself. As for the best rom, there is'nt one they all run great, but are different styles, none are the same.As for giving up on a rom in mid development, its probably because this is'nt paying their bills and they have families to deal with, again they do this on their free time,to give back to the community. You should show appreciation to all developers.
I smell a Troll in the air...

There are plenty of devs and plenty of ROMs. Not everyone does this for a living, people do have lives and are busy or move on to different phones.
We have a great development section. The Evo 3D section, up until recently, was just the same Sense themed differently with a couple differences. We have plenty of things to choose from.
If you don't like things, change things and make your own ROM.
ANNOUNCEMENT: I should be starting a Photon 4G port soon. If anyone has any words of wisdom or advice and guidance, PM me.
I feel quite the opposite as OP. I am so thankful for this community that gives me so much for pretty much nothing in return but a meager "thanks! "

I kinda see where hes coming from. Some roms do get put in a stand still.. Its great there are lots of devs out there, but i do find myself flashing more because most the roms I'm using are in beta modes. Its funny I turned my phone into sprint today, and was surprised how stock non rooted did. Everything was snappy, but all those dam apps and the horrible battery life, makes me glad devs do make roms for us. So don't read into that too much guys and don't take everything defensive.
Lame??? unreal.....
There are so many good ROMS it's like being a kid in a candy store, not knowing which way to turn first.

Agreed, I'm very grateful for all the devs do for us FOR FREE. I don't understand people who complain about free things. Like others have said, if you don't like what you see, learn to make a ROM yourself!

Won't be free if something breaks on your phone from rooting a rom that wasn't tested fully enough..

That just sounds like you had a bad equalizer setting and if it was of course overpowered, the speaker will blow. And the roms are clearly labeled, alpha, beta, stable, ect, clearly listing what works / what doesn't. You flash and root at your own risk, so don't cry about when something happens because of something you did, to your phone, under your own influence.
I was running this sweet custom ROM once...
I was talking on the phone and driving my car and some guy ran a red light and hit me.
Darn developers!

Gee really??? I installed the STOCK ROM did no modifications. He asked if a rom broke my phone and it did. I know they are at my own risks.. I didn't complain to virus I learned my lesson so wtf you on about besides trolling?

The stock rom can have modifications, even if you didn't make them yourself. And again, yes, a custom rom broke your phone, you may not have complained to virus about it, but you're still complaining about it now. And I'm far from trolling you, I raised a logical, correct point.

And there hasn't been 50 new phones released since the EVO!? So when they fixxed the speaker they told you your rooted stock rom broke it? Also for you to get pissy when someone points out something valid is just stupid.
