Help! Battery/Charging problem - G2 and Desire Z General

It would take almost 10 hrs or more to fully charge my desire z to 100%. After i remove it from the charger, my phone switches off. Once i powered it on again it showed that my batt level is only 20% or less and it switches off again. The only way i can keep my phone powered on is if i connect it the charger.
Also, i checked what has been using the battery (under settings>about phone) and except for the display which is stuck at 100% and nothing else is showing.

How old is the battery? Buy one off ebay would be my first move. Also I would factory data reset.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App

it remembering me my old iphone. I had to change the battery, some times lithium-ion battery can be defective. If your learn about this technology, you'll see that is not that good. The main reason why we use it, is because it can takes any shapes.
Well, first check if theres nothing between you phone and battery connections.

I'd bet my money on battery death. Something similar started happening to mine old G1 battery, had to buy a replacement.
If battery's new - maybe its ROM's ir miscalibration fault.

Battery bad warmth weirdness

Say, juys.
I've been reading about battery life and charging, etc. I actually do get pretty decent battery now with plenty of use and everything I want turned on, but that's not why I'm posting.
I have read that if you use certain chargers and the back of the phone gets warm, it means that charger's not charging the battery right and you should immediately stop using it. But I have noticed that when I use the official HTC charger, the back of the phone gets warm, but only on the BOTTOM of the battery door close to the charge port, NOT on top where the battery actually is.
I've even pulled the battery off and felt it when this happens, and it's not warm, which is weird/good. So I guess that's ok, right? Anyone else seeing this behavior?

on a related note if you are really worried about battery temp the HTC battery widget tells you the temp
i haven't had any issues like this. the only charger i use is the wall-mount/usb plug that came with the phone, and just the usb cable from a computer.
I was getting a warm back using the stock charger until flashing CM6. I still have issues when using navigation software though.

My battery gets very hot (58 C) when using the GPS + Google Navigation + Charging. (Charging with the htc cable with a USB car charger that I have). I asked HTC and they suggested a hard reset, and if not, send it back.
Last night when I used my gps for navigation, the htc battery widget even gave me "Status: Overheat"
Does this happen to other people? I can't be the only person using this as a gps....
i had some bad overheating issues. i ended up returning that aria for another one and had none thereafter.
my temps would reach 55~60 even while it wasnt charging or using it.
the entire phone would be extremely hot, including the glass on the front. it would almost be too hot to touch.
i dont know what is was that would cause it. but i think it coulda been when i first got the phone using setcpu, but im not sure.
but if your worried about the temps being too high you can always return it for another if your still within your 30 day window.
No idea I didn't but I will. Notice next time when I use gps but when charging phone it doesn't get hot its normal tho even if it gets hot all phone does get hot while charging. N using

Calibrate X10 Battery

Hello does this method works for x10 to make battery last longer?
Hi *******, I understand your concern regarding battery life on your Nexus One device. The following steps should significantly extend the battery life on your phone. Please connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on. Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone, power it on, and use it. You need to use this sequence only once. If the issue of battery life on our phone persists, I recommend you contact our HTC accessory department directly.
I don't think that exact method will work.
It could just be me, but whenever I plug my phone into the charger when it is switched off, it switches on the phone, which doesn't really help when you're trying to charge with the power switched off.
Mine won't charge switched off either, always turns on.
I just run my battery flat a couple of times, seems to help alot.
Sent from my rooted x10i using Tapatalk.
Modern batteries are not supposed to run flat, from what i've been reading. They stay fresh if charged a little and often. I'm not saying anyones wrong, just what i've heard and read.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
They don't go flat as you'd expect. Lithium has an operating bandwidth. Say 3.5 to 2.9 thats your battery indication from full charge to low battery. Technically the battery is never fully discharged. As someone posted above, a little and often with these new batteries wins the race.

I discovered the solution for X10 calibrate. My bat was showing 100% so i pulled ut the charger, turned the device of, took out the battery, put the charger in and finally putting the battery back. When phone was restarted my battery started charging from 88%. hope it works the same for all!
Edit: after led turning off and bat showing 100% i did the whole procedure again, and again it starts charging from 88%!

After nearly 1h since stop charging i'm still on 100% after a few texts, checking xda on tapatalk ofc and surfing a few webpages, i was down at 99% but magically it restored itself when leaving it be.

Gonna try this myself. I'll report back soon.
Edit-
Mine starts to load at 88% too.
Edit2-
When loading, my Battery Indicator states "overvoltage" and shows 4,21 volts. On my second X10 it's only 3,77 and it doesn't say overvoltage. But when I take it off from the charger the voltage drops to 4 volts and stays at 3,77 on my other X10. Bizarre.
Edit3-
Battery life seems to have improved a lot. With the screen at 100% brightness and the sound on on Gameboid I only lost 1% per 10mins or so. Quite an improvement from losing 3% per 5min.

Nice to see there are actually improvements, i had to rush to my buss while still doing the third cycle so i dissconnected at 96% and it then kept ticking up to 100% on it's own. It sounds worrying though that you get an over voltage allert, maby we should not do this to much if it might damage the battery. But a few cycles just to max it out can't harm?! I belive the 88% -> 100% went faster though for each cycle so this might be a sign that the battery is pushing to the limit little by little. I'm gonna go for a few more cycles to see the results of it.

Yeah, well I had only done two cycles when I noticed the over voltage and stopped there. It seems fine at the moment, temps are normal etc.
I just did one "calibration" again and i actually played around so much with my phone today so when i got home it was on 10%, charged it to 100% and when doin the procedure it reset the battery gauge to 96% rather then the 88% i got earlier.. i wonder if it has any connection to my unplugging the phone at 96% this morning.... hmm, i just don't get this. hehe
Edit: second cycle now and i'm back to charging from 88%.
Thanks for all your constructive ideas. Im also worrying about the battery damage because this is not an official measure. I'll try a few cycles however.
Can you please advise if the coming 2.1 will bring X10 extended battery life?
tried the cycle, first cycle went down to 92%, didnt take long for 100%, second and third she rebooted at 100, sitting at 4.201volts stating overcharge. will update tomorro with a full days use.
I honestly can not tell if my battery has improved from this, but i'm a very inconsistent user

I haven't tried this calibration by taking out the battery when full and putting it back in thing yet, but I have gotten over voltage condition when recharging anyway. It occurs in the 90% and higher region.
Usually, my voltage reaches 4.21V at 100%.
I have very good battery life for a smartphone; I think mostly due to the R2BA020 update for Canada/Rogers. Also, I turn off APN connection most of the time. I did a couple full discharges early when I got the phone and don't know if that had an impact.

So this should meen that the battery is always charging at an overvoltage wich would also meen doing this cycle should not harm the battery more then normal.

Battery DISCHARGING while Charging!!

Strange Issue!!
when my phone is low on battery and i try to charge it (with the original ac charger or the usb); sometimes (almost half the times) the phone instead of charging .... DISCHARGES!!
i have tried all possible fixes. tried the battery calibration apps also. but it gets ok for a day and then back.
i can only charge my phone while its switched off!
Details:
1. on stock TW4
2. 3 pages on home
3. total widgets= 6 ( advanced task killer; digital clock; 2- circle launcher; quick battery; weather)
4. i kill all tasks always before charging!
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? BTW I HAVE TRIED TO REMOVE ALL WIDGETS AND CHARGE ALSO! NO LUCK!
HELP!!
It sound like you might have a faulty charger, have you tried charging from your notebook, it`s a bit slower at 400mah compared to 650mah for the mains charger.

Yes, as a matter of fact, right now i am trying to charge through USB with the same drainage.
Switch the phone off for a while!... let the sucker charge.
And the problem is not always!
this is normal, already been posted. the charger is limited to 650 mA on wall power, and 450 mA on USB power. so it is easily possible to pull more power than is going into the device, say if you are gaming or pushing the device hard with navigation or similar.
next time this happens, turn off the screen for 10 minutes as a test, then come back, and see if the charge increased at all. it likely will increase.

My problem is when I'm not using the phone at all and the screen is off. Tried charging through both wall and usb charger.
The only way right now I can charge my phone is while switched off.
I always kill all apps before charging also... Still!
And if its charging while on, screen off, it gets hot also.

Edit: i also have read in many places that using task killer actually cause more harm than good bcoz it disturbs the proper sequece of how android shuts down an app or process..and cleans up the memory..this will result some of the apps or process to stay awake or come awake again when it sould be sleeping...

I once had this problem..after charging for 6 hours battery was only at 60% and phone was hot..found out that although the screen was off..the phone was wide awake all the time. For me the issue was the wifi manager was somehow awake and consuming power..hence phone was hot and battery drain while charging. Check your battery usage graph and see if your phone is awake when it should not be..and pin down the rouge app or process..
Hope this helps..

That's right, but if the charger was 1000mA like HTC's it would continue to draw those 700mA it needs even while in use.You wouldn't notice any difference at all with it charging while not being used, but when screen is on there is a difference.
They limited charge current to 650 mA in the driver code, so that's why they use a 0.7 A charger. Using a higher output won't help unless someone compiles a new kernel.

I suggest you do a simple trouble shooting...charge your phone to 100% while it is off.
Than unplug, switch on your phone and just leave it for half hour or an hour without doing anything.
Than swith your display on...and go to settings
Select about phone..
Go to battery use and tap on the graph.
It will show you a few horizontal lines.
Make sure your screen on and awake time bars coincide nicely.
While your screen is off your awake bar should be very very minumum... most of the high battery drain casses will have a very short screen on bar but a solid long line of awake time.
This is normally due to some rougue app or process...and you have to narrow it down.
If your graph looks normal..than you could be having a defective battery or in worst case a defective hardware.

The max of 0.7 amps is a partykiller... When in my car, I'd like to have my phone record everything (dailyroads voyager as dashcam), while navigating... Definitely discharging there while on stock carcharger! So I will have to choose when I'm going on holiday (12 hours drive...)

I had a same problem before. But after I reflash 2-3 times (literom 1.5 for now) it's gone, and charging normal on car and wall charger while gaming or navigate.

My phone charges only during the day!!

Itz weird. I'm facing this problem since the last 3 days.
What happens is, my phone does not get charged during the evening or the night. I plugged it in the AC socket, I can see the red light and the battery indicator on the status bar also shows the charging animation. But the battery percentage just does not increase!!
Like, for instance, yesterday night, I tried to charge my phone and it did not get charged. It discharged fully. Today morning, at around 9am, I kept it to charge in the same socket and it charged (upto 100%). And just now, (itz 5:48 pm here) I tried to charge it through the same socket and itz not getting charged. WTF!!
P.S. I'm running CM7 build 16 (or probably 15). I am using this build since it was released.

Best thing I ever bought was a spare battery and a universal (so I can use it when I upgrade too) battery charger that you clip a battery into, I never have to worry about battery life as no matter how hard I hammer it, my spare is always charged first.

N4 massive battery issues

Or more like charging issues?
I've got this phone in December and I'm pretty satisfied with it. The only thing that kinda annoys me is the fact that my phone often won't charge properly and I'm not sure if it's because of the charger (the one that comes with the Nexus) or the battery.
When I charge it, it says that it's charging. Just like it should be. The problem is though, that it's not really charging. A few seconds later it says that it's discharging, not even a second later it's charging again, then discharging and it goes like that all the time. I'm almost sure that this harms my battery a lot. When I let it charge over night, most of the time the battery level is under 100% (50-60% are more likely) and that is kinda frustrating when going to work.
So I want to know: does anybody have the same issue or something similar? Or do I just have a faulty device/charger? This issue has been plaguing me for around a month now.

Have you tried it with another charger? I always use a universal charger and that works fine. If that doesn`t help it is probably a hardware issue and you`ll need to get it fixed.
AW: N4 massive battery issues
Unfortunately I don't have any charger with an output of 1.2A. All of them are under 1.2A and most are broken anyway (also chargers from my last phone, LG Optimus 2X). Seems like I'm just not that lucky when it comes to chargers.. I'll try to find one though. Thanks for the reply.

Just to test it, use your computer usb. It isn't full power but it is enough to see if there is an issue. Maybe a new cable?

Not sure if this is related to my computer now but when I plug it in it says charging and as soon as the MTP notification pops up it doesn't charge anymore.

Okay so I somehow fixed it.. most likely temporarily but it seems like the issue is the cable. I pretty much "straightened" the cable with my fingers (was applying pressure to the cable and then went slowly downwards) and that apparently worked o_o..
Now it's been charging for 15 minutes without disconnecting once. I hope it'll remain like that..
