[Q] Need help saving a bricked Defy

Hello there,
I apologize if the thread seem redundant, but I've already tried I found the forum about similar issues to no avail.
So I bought a bricked Defy on eBay for a couple of bucks and I'm trying to revive it. The seller said he bricked it after a flash that apparently when wrong.
The phone does not power on at all and doesn't even react when the power button is pressed. The white LED turn when I plug the phone to a computer. It does not turn on when plugged to a wall charger.
By using the "MacGyver" method, I have managed to make the phone show up in RSDLite. I have tried to flash multiple SBF images with different CG versions. Each time, the phone wakes up and shows "SW UPDATE IN PROGRESS" in blocky font but dies again once the flashing process end. RSDLite simply shows PASSED. Also every informations listed by RSDLite in the "Devices Properties" is shown as N/A except for the bootloader version and the last 4 lines.
Another issue is that I'm not even sure whether it's a DEFY or a DEFY+. The seller listed it as a DEFY+, however the battery that came with it is a 1540mAh and the lens seem to be green. I've tried to flash a DEFY+ before noticing this, so hopefully it didn't screw up the phone even more.
So, any idea? I would appreciate any help provided. Thanks!

The most important thing is to use the latest version of RSD and drivers.
I have a Defy plus and the same thing happened to me before (black screen even no bootlooder) so I connected my phone to the computer (I can't really remember if I powered with a vol up or not) but I got it recognized by the RSD. try connecting and powering on the the vol up if nothing just connect and see what will happen.
In my satiation, the phone got recognized in the RSD and remained black screen till I pressed start then it finally showed SU UPDATE.
The defy plus has a grey colored power buttons and screws but the defy is totally black
The most important thing is to use the latest version of RSD and drivers
And please tell me if it worked.

Unfortunately, getting the phone recognised isn't the problem. I can flash SBF and everytime the process seem to go without any error (RSDLite just show passed once it's done). But the phone is still completely bricked. I also tried the "TI Flash erase" option, to no avail.
I'll just try again a bit, then I guess I'll list it back on eBay.

Did you read Zephyrot's All-in-one thread? I guess you haven't...

If you try to flash a lower ID version than the one already on your phone, you will just get a Black screen after booting or a screen telling you to flash an official rom.
So, with this in mind, you can now hop between Android versions without screwing up your phone.
If you have an Éclair Defy and would like to keep the ability to downgrade to it, you should ONLY install FIXED SBFs of the Android Version you want to install, and then use the corresponding Nandroid Backup for that Fixed SBF.​

If you have flashed an SBF with a higher CG39 version than your original, there is a good chance you now own not a Defy, but a Defy+, which is not a huge issue, unless you need to get back your stock ROM for warranty purposes or if your phone has a green lense...

Well thanks for the reply, but my problem isn't that the phone fails to boot, but does simply not turn on at all. It's literally dead as a brick. I've already tried to flash pretty much every sbf under the sun (Including DEFY+ once) and the phone never turned on once (Not even the Moto logo or a bootloader error screen).
The only last thing I see might be a defective battery.

Yeah could be a battery. Get a cheap one ebay job and try a sbf then if it loads then great u can allways put cm7 or cm9 on it

Change your battery or charge with external charger (universal charger)

I am with exactly the same problem. No bootloader, and SU UPDATE showing while the process occurs, and PASS at the end. But once finished, can't turn on the phone.
I have a Defy+ ( and other Defy who helps charging battery).
Do you think I need to try MacGyver method?

Problem with defy ROM! Pls help me!

I know that there are a lot of helpful and expert Defy Users and Owners here at XDA so I came here for help. :crying::crying:
I have a defy green lens and I had a problem when I flashed a kernel that was not meant for defy, I was not able to go back to CWM recovery so I used RSD Lite to flash an SBF from somewhere around here, but sadly it was for ME525 and it was Chinese. It worked with my phone except for the LED Flash. It is very dim and somehow greenish. I thought it would go away by flashing the CM7 and then going to back to Epsylon's CM9 through CWM recovery but everything is fine with that CM9 except, again, the LED Flashlight. It's the same dim and greenish light. So I tried flashing a different SBF for Defy Jordan but when I do my phone just goes blank after flashing and I cannot go to stock recovery nor open the bootloader (But RSD Lite says connected when I connect the phone to the PC). I tried a couple of SBF's but it's always a blank (black) screen. When I flash that ME525 SBF, it works again.
Can this ever be fixed? Please help me. I don't know what to do. I just want my Defy to have a working LED flashlight.

Sorry but the effin chinese sbf kills the led flash of mb525! It happened to my defy. We're just outta luck! Dumbest mistake I've made. Dumb, dumb, dumb!

Defy Flash Bootloader Err:A5,70,39,00,27

Hello mates,
this morning I've taken to update the defy of CM10-20120810 to 20120904 CM10-last (had 2.3.4 kernel "kernel-gb-234-451-134-signed")
but after upgrading, has given me the battery fault that I was 100%
I tried several times to put him the Fix battery, but nothing at all ...
so I've taken to "Flashing" the Defy, first I tested with
ME722BL6.sbf
later with
rom_froyo.sbf
and when I RDSLite says "the phone is beein Rebbot" or something .. I restart, get the Motorola logo disappears .. and goes blank ..
and puts me in RDSLite "Finished" and "PASS"
Defy but does nothing ... and when I press the power button is switched off, give it back, turn again as "Bootloader" with the following error
Err: A5, 70,39,00,27
I've also tried to say next. "sbf"

526krfix.sbf
Vodafone and the original:

Which stock ROM were you on? If you flash the same ROM again, you should not have this problem. This happens mostly if you flash a ROM with lower BL than the current one on your phone.

The first SBF i put, there rom_froyo.sbf (original from motorola i think)
before i try to upgrade to CM10-20120904 i have kernel 2.3.4 and i think that the same "rom_froyo.sbf", because i made only one time Flash with RDSLite...
from first and unique flash with RDSLite, only i made update from recovery mode - install zip from sd
only put cm7, cm9 and cm10, then the Gapps... and the last time when upgrade to cm10 i made, install cm10.zip, install kernel 2.3.4, and install gapps...

Any idea about the firmware version?

i have no idea..
i think that is 2.2 from motorola
i get it from HTCMania

As you flashed ME722BL6.sbf, you are now on BL6 and I assume that's a Defy+ ROM, so no downgrade to Froyo. Try flashing the ME722BL6.sbf file again and don't flash froyo ROM on top of it. If it gets stuck on M logo, go to recovery and do a factory reset.
If you have a greenlens defy, you can no longer use the camera.

I have normal defy, with red lense (bayer)
the principal problem now is that can not made nothing... only it put in white led when i connected to usb...(no combination (power+vol+ or power vpl-) made nothing)

Try this: Pull out battery. Keep volume + pressed. Insert battery and then press power button. It should now enter bootloader mode. Connect it now to PC and then flash SBF with RSD.

I'm trying to charge the battery via USB cut,
red wire to positive and black to negative,
I'll leave loading an hour or more, and try again.
what "sbf" do you recommend that put in defy? BL6 or BL7 ...
Could you put the recommended "sbf" links?

What defy you have: red, green or plus? You cant install lower rom than 188. If you have plus - you'll have all things working, red - battery can make work with batt fixes, green - camera will never work on BL7, only on CM10,CM9.1 or other roms with custom kernel. Well, everything was nicely foaming, "I sat" on the CM10 installed the Pie controll and just had fun this application that has become so sensitive to where it was not to use the entire screen. It took out the batteries and wanted to enter in CWM to do a wipe, and there still stands on the log "M". So I took RSD and flashed stock. Still hanging on the log, and to stock recovery also can not enter because the log M.
What to do in this situation?
I installed this:

WIPE VIA STOCK RECOVERY. While phone is powered down hold vol-dow & power, when triangle will appear press volup+down buttons & wipe data...

I wrote I can't enter to stock recovery

So, nobody help me??

Is your defy red or green lense camera ,aka Bayer or SOC? If your camera is red you can try to install BL5 GB from Defy+ (4.5.1-134_DFP-82). If green - DON'T TRY THAT METHOD...

When try 3.4.2-179-6.1 T-mobile germany rom from SBF files thread. It's BL4 so you wont screw anything with CG/BL version.

Hi guys! I have the Moto Defy 525 green lens
I really need help.
I have installed Cm10 JB from quarx and have been testing it for about 3 months with no problems. Today (and days before) the phone was very slow so, I decided to return to froyo or cm7 but...
I don´t know what I am doing wrong. Every time I flash it to froyo, RS lite stays on "Plase manually power up the phone". In that point the phone is already in a booting again and again. I have tried with several stock rooms from diferent regions, froyo 2.2.2, 2.2.1 but is always the same. Right now the battery is charging directly from wires because the rebooting drain it all.
What can I do?
Do you think that "Android 4.1.2 Jellybean from quarx" have changed something and I no longer have a 525 model?
I don´t know anything, just saying...
Please... help!!!
My first language is spanish so, if any can help me in that language would be better for me.
I will apreciate any suggesting. :crying::crying:

I have found a solution some where else.
This is what I did:
When RSD lite get stuck on "manually power up..:" I unplug the battery for a few seconds then, I have entered on stock recovery ((- btn and Power)then(+ & - btns) and wipe everything and... that was all. The phone have restarted normally.
