It might just be a matter of updates, but I'm fairly certain that the Galaxy Tab (the original one, which this is the forum for) has never received TouchWiz 4. Furthermore, subsequent Tabs have been Honeycomb-based, so they received TouchWiz UX (which is only a light modification).
My only other guess is whether you're asking about Android 4.0 which includes Hardware Acceleration on selected hardware. Unfortunately, that upgrade won't be coming to the Tab through official channels, so you can't be sure of acceleration support.
As for your comparison to the iPad, I find my GT-P1000 runs just as smooth as the iPad (and even the 2 most of the time) without any acceleration. It's very snappy and zooms and scrolls very smoothly for me.
The touchwiz 4 doesn't have hardware acceleration. Only the firmware Ice Cream Sandwich has this feature. I have the hope that one day we can enjoy of ICS in our Galaxy Tab. It works so good!!!!!

Unless the app calls for it, is not 3d and the user has the force gpu setting on in the.dev settings of ICS, apps arent HW accelled, only the UI.

To clear up the confusion:
The standard Galaxy Tab does not include TouchWiz 4
Honeycomb-based Tabs feature TouchWiz UX and therefore also do not include TW4
Stock Ice Cream Sandwich features HW acceleration on the OS only, not in the apps
The Galaxy Tab has no official ICS update at this time, and therefore will be unlikely to get HW acceleration.
The matter of performance comparison to the iPad is a wholly personal preference and depends on what you're doing on the device.
Remember also that the Galaxy Tab is a 1 and a half year old portable device and is therefore not in the same performance league as newer 10" dual-core models.

It's not about confusion, it's about users demanding way to much from the gadgets they have... That"s a discussion that will live as long as there are gadgets. Remeber the 3D-class-act-hype on HTC's Tytn II , the Kaiser...
People should learn to live with what they get for the money they want to spend....

Live Wallpapers (like for example Planetscapes) are very laggy/have slow frame rates on the 7.7 compared to for example the Galaxy S2, even though the 7.7 has a faster CPU. I have tried several laundhers (Go, ADW EX, Stock) but the Live Wallpapers both update slowly and the scrolling when switching home-screens is jittery.
Any way to improve this? Maybe Gingerbread is to blame?

Well on the 7.7, you're using the same GPU and only a ~17% faster CPU to render 640,000 more pixels than you would on the S2. So, yeah, it should come as no surprise that active backgrounds are going to be more sluggish on the 7.7 compared to the S2.
There is no way to fix this. Use static backgrounds and/or disable wallpaper scrolling.
P.S. Gingerbread is not installed on the 7.7

Yup. I was thinking about the increased pixel-count too. I meant to write honeycomb.
As you say, the 7.7 has 166% more pixels.. That's quite a lot and I guess that explains it. :|

3D games are usually GPU accelerated. Live wallpapers usually aren't.
The same livewallpapers run smoothly on the galaxy note.

Let's hope so. Maybe it will be smoother with the release of ICS.
Well as 99% of you know the SIII has been launched, with a whole host of software features.
What are the chances of us getting some of these features? A couple that appeal to me are the Music Hub (newer less usless version) and the new dongle that mirror to the TV.
It'd be great to get these features.
(Could this be the reason ICS got delayed?)
We gets the hubs for music, movies and the others.
Faceunlock but if u close your eyes and the screen goes off this feature is only for sgs3 and the videofrature too.

I would like to see the improved camera software for our Note, such as faster shutter speed (current speed annoys me compared to my SGS1 Epic 4G which has a super fast shutter) and 3.3 second between shots.
I'm very interested in the AllShare Cast wireless streaming dongle.
I can't see any reason it wouldn't be offered for the Note, or any modern Samsung device for that matter.

hope our NOTE meet the hardware requirement....

What about the Siri clone? You think we will get it?
Well, if we do get it (and im sure eventually in time it will be), the only thing that I'm pretty sure we won't ever get is NFC... (this is after all the International Note version thread), this needs the hardware part... which I'm pretty sure our Note lacks the better part of it as well.
I feel like a good chunk if not almost all of these features could be ported to our Notes. Seeing as they've said that the quad core Exynos is supposed to be pin for pin identical to the dual cores in the fact that they can be changed out without having to alter your design I'd have to think the whole setup is similar, but I'm just guessing. The biggest thing I've been wondering about is with the whole zero shutter lag. Is it possible to port or give our older phones this ability? I don't know if new hardware is physically required or if it's all software? If my Note could have zero shutter lag, or even much faster shutter speeds and ICS. I'm perfectly happy without the SIII.

It would be interesting if they held the Note's ICS update back, so they can show off all the new features on their flagship first. Rather than the S3 announcement essentially being; 'Its got all the features of the Note but its smaller and has no SPen'

Whilst I'm not a fan of threads such as this (prefer waiting), you are likely on the money. With 3 million Notes sold and S3 launch, you don't want to steal the new arrivals thunder!
Nexus S ICS was on Google Employees handsets for ages before publically released as Google needed to get units of Galaxy Nexus shifted.
Any timeframe extension the inhouse devs might have been given to allow for the launch of the S3 (in developing ICS mainstream Samsung build, Note extras and other device specific extras for say S2 for example) can only be a good thing.

You stole the words right out of my mouth.
I personally feel that most of the features should be able to get ported, especially the new TouchWiz Launcher Nature UX. Its essentially got the ICS stock feel with a Widget tab while allowing transparency.
I am hoping to get the ROM ported with features from the note, mainly SMemo stuff over to the note, that would be a delight.
Good Luck Dev's
I am not really impressed with the SIII, I am not saying it's bad rather it's awesome and I would have wanted it on day one had I not had my GNote. 4.8 is still small and it feels awkward saying that.
Coming to your question, who knows it might all be the ICS Update, if not then in Note II definitely.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
This is what i posted in the main ICS thread & this is what I feel..
I think Galaxy note will get ICS updates inline with Galaxy S2 with the addition of premium suite. Both of them are previous years's model.
Galaxy note 2 & Galaxy S3 will have same feature set.
From business point of view if Galaxy note gets the features then Galaxy note 2 will be only a hardware upgrade. Well that wouldnt create the hype would it ?
Regarding porting to our note our devs will certainly turn the magic wheels....
I am leaning towards the PORT and not a Samsung Supported update due to the same reason of Productization and ensuring that the customer can differentiate between the Note and the SGS III, otherwise the Note will win with the features and screen size, but lacking the Quad Core.
I also feel with a complete ICS build running on the Note it probably won't be that much slower than the GSIII despite dual vs. quad. Heck people said it's the same GPU just overclocked right? As for Note 2 I wouldn't be surprised if they introduce some new features. Maybe HD SuperAMOLED+? Wasn't the Note the first Samsung phone to have the HD Screen, GLONASS, S-Pen, etc?
As for some of the new features my Droid Charge which is basically just Galaxy S hardware has the newer launcher, widgets, and some of the features from the Galaxy SII. So I think we could see stuff brought to our Note!!
Now before I begin, I know there's already a TouchWiz tablet mode in the development forum based off of the the best qualities of the N7000 and the GTab 7.7 (both of which I own), and I've tried it already; it's very exciting development! However, as much as I like this tweak, and as cool as it is (credit given where it's due), wouldn't it be even better if we could simply port a stock Note 10.1 ROM directly to the N7000? I know that the N7000's hardware isn't anywhere near as impressive as the quad-core 2gb beast that the 10.1 is, but the screen resolution of both is the same, and the N7000 is no slouch in the performance department even 1 year on, so maybe it's worth a try?
As I mentioned, I own both the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the N7000. I love both devices. However, I primarily use the 7.7 as my daily driver, mainly because I prefer the tablet interface of Android vs the phone layout used in the stock Note. Thus, my N7000 has sat on my desk, more often than not, as more of a test bed and frankly as more of a toy to use for playing around with all the ROM's that are out there for it (again, credit where it's due!). I've already played around with all the tablet mode options out there; everything from AOSP/AOKP in tablet mode, to the lovely Paranoid hybrid ROM, and so on. However, even then, not everything is as it should be. The S-Pen functionality is greatly reduced, accessories such as MHL output and USB OTG don't always work, and hardware accelerated video playback is usually spotty. In short, it always seems to come close, but it's never quite a perfect fit; there's always something missing.
By porting the Note 10.1's stock TouchWiz to our Note, perhaps that may bring the best of all worlds: a proper TouchWiz tablet UX, with full S-Pen functionality, and all other stock features working properly as they were designed, not to mention the hovering mini-apps for simple things like accessing the dialer, messaging, S-Planner, etc.
If I could have that kind of experience on my current Note, not only would I be disinclined even to get the Note 2, but I think I might just sell my 7.7 as well!! This, for me, would truly be the best of both worlds, which is exactly what Samsung originally intended for the Note when the débuted it at last year's IFA 2011. Having that now would give the N7000 a whole new lease on life; I'm not about to give up on it yet!
What do you guys think?
I was thinking the same
ME TOO )))
Hmm, good to know I wasn't alone! Now, if only we could get the attention of some interested developers! I'd do it myself if I had the know-how (and the free time!)

Yeah, but the Note 2 and the S3 UI's are still all just PHONE features. The Note and the Note 2 are still just big phones with pens from a UI standpoint. While I'm not knocking that in and of itself (for many folks, retaining the phone UI on a large screen is preferable), I am pointing out that it still qualifies the Note(2) as just a really big phone, not a really small tablet.
All I'm lobbying for here is a proper TouchWiz option for the N7000 to be that really small tablet (with all the functionality and driver support of other TouchWiz builds) instead of a really big phone.
Some people prefer the phone UI, others the tablet UI. I don't want to sacrifice any functionality at all if I want to use a tablet UI out of preference. The same choice should be offered to everyone else too!

As far as a I know aosp/aokp does not work, and stock devs managed to lower down to 240 max

Sounds like a really good idea, I hope some great dev make this possible.
The Note 10.1 has issues with multi-app performance (eg the apps aren't truly running simultaneously). Also, this is limited to only specific apps which can work multi-screen.
I don't really see what the benefit would be here. Plus doesn't it have more in common with the N7100 than the N7000?
Not much benefit for a ton of work which will likely be found useless upstream.
Also lately there have been very few dev projects for the Note 10.1 in general (take a look at their dev subforum)
this is Rockchip's multitasking, Is it possible to run on Nexus4?
Wow that is impressive
that's very nice, but it seems like it would be really cramped on anything smaller than a 7" tablet
Yeah Samsung Note 10.1 has the same type of multitasking which works wonderful once you root the device because then you can multitask with any app you have and not Samsung specific ones. Bought a note 10.1 recently because of this feature.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, But Samsung implementation seems to only be custom apps that work in window form, but this seems to be a framework implementation?
Meaning this should work well with all Play Store apps as long as they followed the Android development guidelines and have a tablet UI. (fragments, panels etc)

There's barely any lag that I noticed in the video, if at all, so I hope that we get some update similar to that. Also hopefully if this device gets picked up, it will spur more development for the note 2014 since its basically the same hardware all around.

Seriously that UI is awful... Sammy said that you cannot remove those home screens ... unless you plan on rooting of course
When I saw that big shiny 12.2 NotePro I was first hit with instant gadget lust, then brief remorse and then I realized that I was looking for a tablet that I can carry around in my bag, use on the subway etc... that thing is not very convenient to lug around... it's heavy and you would be forced to use the split onscreen keyboard... all things considered I am happy with my choice ! That remote desktop feature will probably be gifted to us at some point with an update... What I want right now is an official Samsung dock for our 10.1 that will let you connect a keyboard/mouse that won't lose it's connection, and an hdmi out to mirror onto any smart tv.
:cyclops:
The Note-series devices are Samsung's flagships and priced that way. I guarantee you the N10.1-14 will get 4.4 at the same time the Pro-series and N12 are released - if not sooner. The N12 has the same internals and display resolution as the N10.1-14 so in essence our update's already done. They've finally updated TW too which might be why they never finished the roll-out of multiuser or issued any recent 4.3 updates for the N10.1-14. If the N10.1-14 was an orphan I could see people getting edgy. It was actually the first piece in Samsung's 2014 Android tablet puzzle with the rest of the pieces now falling in to place. It would be kind of stupid of them to have the 10.1 Pro have newer s/w and better features than the N10.1-14 when the latter costs more therefore offering them higher margin.
They also announced the galaxy tab pro models = Note 10.1 2014 minus the S pen. Everything else is pretty much the same minus the ram. Not sure about the processor though, but if it is exynos then perhaps we can just port stuff over to our device development wise?
The only thing that has really caught my attention is the 4 way multiwindow and kit kat which I'm sure we'll get eventually. (A little jealous of the cpu but I can get over that)

Yep. Or adjusted down in the non-Note tablets.
Otherwise, both models (Note 12) feature a 12.2-inch 2,560×1,600 SC-LCD touchscreen, a 1.9 GHz Samsung Exynos Octa processor for the Wi-Fi+3G version, a 2.3 Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor for the LTE version, an 8 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (with MIMO), Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, and a 9,500 mAh battery. They both run Android 4.4 KitKat from day one, with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI overlay on top, complete with the new Magazine UX that replaces the traditional home screen paradigm with easily surfaced information from all the apps you care about.
The Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 has a 10.1-inch touchscreen as you’d imagine, yet it keeps the 2,560×1,600 resolution. It also has the same choice of chipsets, the same cameras, and connectivity options as its bigger siblings, but comes with 2 GB of RAM, 16 or 32 GB of internal storage (with microSD expansion), and an 8,220 mAh battery. It too runs Android 4.4 KitKat.

With all their 2014 high-end products using the same display resolution and h/w we should see much faster s/w updates. When you think about it the s/w on the Pro 8.4 is nothing but a Note 12 Pro's s/w with features disabled.
Honestly not fussed with anything they have just released, this screen is perfect for me and since all the devices are on par with ours unless you want a 12.2 inch screen I really can't see why anyone would be jealous or envious of what samsung released today

Widgets gone wild
The Galaxy TabPro ships with Android 4.4, but that actually may not be so apparent at first glance. The TouchWiz interface has been replaced with what the company has christened Magazine UX. It's a much more graphical UI that uses widgets to make accessing information and apps much more immediate.
While app icons are still accessible, the default interface looks like something closer to Windows 8.1, with the screen segmented into tiles. For instance, the default home screen puts a weather widget along the left edge, while the right side is divided between a Flipboard widget at the top and an array of frequently used apps below it.
Each widget is completely interactive -- for example, swiping down on Flipboard cycles through different news stories -- and widget selection, size, placement, and orientation are all customizable. You can create several widget-filled screens like this each with its own widgets and design.
The interface isn't the most intuitive -- I had trouble figuring out why I couldn't make certain widgets as small or as large as I wanted -- but once I learned how to do things, it all started to fall into place for me. Thankfully, Samsung was smart not to upset the apple cart too much, as you can still access apps the traditional way if widgets just aren't working for you.

If you are rooted, there is an xposed app that gives you 4 way multiwindow. Tried it on my note 3

Mmmmm, I read an article that made it sound that the home button will always take you to Magazine UX and that you had to swipe all the way to the left for simple apps. Maybe I'm just assuming too much lol.

The "Home" button takes you to your preset home page today. Use traditional widgets (Samsung's if they aren't all "UX'd" or third party) and you wouldn't/shouldn't notice a difference from your current set up. Today pressing the home button while you're already on the home page opens My Magazine. But it can be disabled. I'm guessing Magazine UX replaces My Magazine so it could/should have an off switch too. All previous updates that Samsung released preserved a user's current experience. It would be kind of jarring if after the N10.1-14's update you suddenly didn't recognize it.
