Bricked?? - Vibrant General

Long story short my wife damaged her phone and while waiting to get a new one she used my vibrant after I flashed it back to stock however I did have GB bootloaders flashed before I flashed to stock so I am not sure if that was still resident on the phone or not? And I did root it again before I gave it to her. She got the notification that there was an update from T-Mobile and installed it and then she said the screen went black and now it won't turn on at all. Is it bricked at this point?

Did she use the Kies program to do the update??
If so so there is a very strong possibility that it is hard bricked, because Kies is notorious for corrupting the Primary and SBL [boot loaders] The primary actually powers on the phone, and the secondary boot loader initiates the boot sequencing!
So in short once the Primary is corrupted it will never power on until the phone is J-Tagged by a specialist. Which he overwrites a fresh new primary to get it to power on! But again you need to post all the symptoms and the sequence of events she did to hose your phone.

All I know is that she got the notification from T-Mobile say there was a software update for the phone and she said that she said ok and then the phone rebooted and went to a white progress screen and once it finished the phone went black and now it won't turn on at all...

I am assuming that the T-mobile update is applied via Kies? If that is the case and that white screen that my wife saw was the Kies update then I am also assuming my phone is bricked? I have it plugged in right now and computer doesn't recognize it and there are no lights or anything coming on on the phone at all...

No kies is a program that is downloaded from Samsung to your pc. Have Odin ready. Then pull your battery sim card out. Put battery in hold down both volume rockers and then plug USB cord into phone. If Odin recognizes it your good.

No luck. ODIN doesn't recognize the phone. Called T-mobile and they are doing an exchange and sending me the HTC Sensation next day air for free... Guess it could be worse.. The wife just got the Galaxy S II so maybe I can trade her...

After update Galaxy S wont turn on

hi
after update my galaxy s is not turning on anymore. Odin finished the whole update now it wont turn on at all.
Any way to safe the phone ?
Is it bricked ?
If you are able to go into download mode, you are safe. Which region are you from and what FW did you flash?

its not turning on at all. I simply dont understand. first mount issue. then phone - attention - computer issue. bought the jig adapter from ebay. the phone went into download mode. installed the root kernel and then jh2. Everything successfull and now the phone simply wont turn on.
This phone is just garbage nothings works like it should.
pull the battery out for 5 mins then put back in and hook up to the charger. The phone should start up again by keeping the power button pressed in for at least 30 seconds to a minute. It happened to me a few weeks ago when I was flashing my mates phone.
nope all dead.
Called samsung that the phone is not turning on at all. Spoke with supervisor they agreed to fix the phone
UPS is gonna pick up the phone today. Damm gonna be without phone for 2-3 weeks. Have to use Motorola Pebl
I have the same problem after update on Odin. The phone is completely dead, download doesnt boot. Does anyone know how to fix it, or the only way is to send to samsung ?

please help me, my phone is unusable

my focus has gone crazy. it keeps beeping like i received a text message. i try to lock the screen and it goes black for 5 seconds, then immediately lights up and dings like i have a text message. from there it dings constantly. there are no pauses, just ding, ding, ding, ding. you get the picture.
battery drains within an hour due to this. i've reseated the battery, restarted, even did the full reset. nothing has changed. i did the nodo update manually before it became available via the xda update about 6 weeks ago.
does anyone know what's going on....has this ever happened to anyone before? i bought the phone in november...can i warranty it or go to att and switch out?
First thing, you have a couple of options. Any product that you buy in an att store has a warranty on it for a year: phones, cases, chargers, anything. Second thing, I can't say that I have or have heard many instances of whats going on with your phone. The easiest way to deal with this is to go to att tell them whats happeneing and tell them you would like a new phone. The other option is to do another full recovery but do it with the diagnosis app; the diagnosis codes are located in the thread in the general section of the focus forum. Another option is to use one of the official roms from the development section and reflash the rom. So, all in all I think you might of had a faulty update manually updating to nodo. Also, I would try updating through zune the official att/micorsoft nodo. The last thing I assume your focus was unlocked. If you flash the official rom from the development section it flashes, I think, to 7004 version and you can unlock your phone again, prevent the unlock to nodo, so on and so on. Good luck

okay so the problem now is that the device is not being recognized via the usb port. it reads "one of the devices connected via usb has malfunctioned and is not recognized." does anyone know what is going on???
i think before i did a full reset on the phone, it was programmed to tether. when i reset it, would it revert back to tethering or sync with zune? either way it has never been showing as malfunctioning in windows, so something is definitely wrong. should i do a complete reset using the diagnosis app? i don't know how to do that, but might it help?
does anyone know why i am getting "device has malfunctioned" warning?

Your going to need to put it in download mode and reflash the original firmware you can do that and download all the tools in this thread.

And if that doesn't work (might not, considering the USB issue) you will have to go warranty...
okay thanks for the help. i decided to go back to ATT and they replaced it for no charge. it was an easy fix, BUT i tried to buy a new micro sd card from microcenter, and the phone will not recognize it at all. is this pretty normal to happen?
ATT put the memory card from the old phone into the new phone without my permission. obviously it did not work, but i'm wondering if them putting it in the new phone at all might cause the memory slot to go awry and not read any new card?
You have to do a hard reset to initialize the sd card. Once you do this, it's not removable

so i turn the phone off, put the card in, turn the phone on and go into settings and do a hard reset, and then it should be good to go?

No, turn on the phone with the 3 buttons method, or read here about all the methods:
With the phone off, hold down the Power button, volume down button, and camera button and when the screen turns on, release power button, then the other 2.
You will be asked to press Win to continue, twice (hard reset).

[Q] I think I bricked a MyTouch 4G for good :(

I bought two used MyTouch 4G's from a seller on Craigslist for very little money, the phones are cosmetically both a 9.5 out of 10 and only one of the two had issues so I thought I got a good deal. One phone was stuck at the Boot Screen and I had to flash the latest stock ROM in recovery to get it to even boot normally. I had no problems whatsoever with the other phone. I successfully downgraded both from 2.3.4 to 2.2.1 so I could root and flash Virtuous Unity 2.39.0 on them. I tried to temporarily root the "problem phone" with Visionary r14 which did not work right away, the phone kept freezing and rebooting. Eventually it worked and I used gfree to permanently root it. I have S-OFF and boot loader 0.86.0000. After attempting to flash VU 2.39.0 on the phone and some error messages about E: and logs, I tried to restore the PD15IMG.zip for 2.2.1 and I didn't get FAIL-PU error messages, it asked me if I wanted to update and it said "OK" after the steps. The phone worked for a minute or two and then shut itself off. It did it about 5 times.
Now the phone will not even turn on. It doesn't show the orange LED when it is plugged in. When I press Power and Volume down, NADA. The same when I press Power and Volume Up. Nothing. There is no vibration, no attempt to boot up at all. When I plug it into my laptop, it gives me some weird tones, not like when I plug in any other MyTouch 4G and adb doesn't recognize it either. I have tried two different chargers that I know are working and two different batteries that I know are fully charged. The phone is DEAD I think I think I might have bricked it
The working phone has the inferior screen and the bricked phone has the superior screen, I wish it was the other way around If this phone is truly bricked, I'm just going to swap out motherboards, I bought one for $ 25.50 with a broken power button on eBay the other day
Is there anything I can do to "revive" that phone? Any input is greatly appreciated !!
Looks to me u borked the motherboard , I've would sell it the same way you bought it
Flashing PD15IMG, if the phone screws up mid-flash while doing bootloader or radio, will leave your phone dead, as in completely dead, requiring primary (JTAG or other supported) boot to reload SW, at least bootloader and baseband. There are special tools for the task. But I'm not sure you can get a hand on these tools, you'd need to be working for HTC or Qualcomm for that. Never did it and never heard of anyone doing it, so I can't point you further.
Basically, when you power up the phone, your CPU doesn't have anything to load.
When I flashed PD15IMG.zip the last time, everything seemingly went well, all OK's instead of the dreaded "FAIL-PU" all the way up to "Update Complete, Power to Reboot". I believe that this phone has the bad eMMc chip in it, it started screwing up after the 2.3.4 OTA update according to the person who sold me the phones. It was stuck at the MyTouch 4G screen. As much as I really want to get this phone back to life, I believe that the motherboard is truly dead and that there is no way to get it back to life. Unless someone has a magic tool (or wand LOL) to revive it

i have the same problem but mine turn on the orange light when connected to charger also a little one in the action button. it happened after unlocking with xtc clip

Thanks for the ride

So my otherwise trusty I9100 decided that it wanted to sleep the eternal black sleep. Yesterday it locked up and I had to remove the battery. When powered on, it asked for the password for the encrypted storage (I do not have encrypted storage that I know of). I could only power off or reboot at that point. I chose shutdown and let the phone rest for a couple of minutes. Then I started it again and then it went into eternal boot loop. I powered off by holding the power button and when that seemed to fail, I removed the battery. I tried to enter the normal boot menu (running standard firmware 4.1.2). This failed. I tried to use the volume down+home+power button and that to my relief showed the warning about installing a custom os. I proceeded and Odin started on the phone. Great I thought. I can at least flash the phone and have a phone again. I downloaded the firmware and Odin 3.0.7 and proceeded to flash. Odin 3.0.7 could detect the phone and started sending the cache image preparing instructions to the phone. This took a long time and then it timed out. The phone still showed the Odin downloading screen. I tried to restart the software on the pc, but that failed right away. I tried to restart Odin on the phone, but the phone was now completely dead. Black screen forever.
For reference, I have flashed with Odin before (long time ago) and it worked as intended. Besides, I was following the troubleshooting guide presented here on this site for the S2 and right now, I can get zero signs of life from this phone.
Seeing as my friends S2 died after 2-3 years with black screen of death and my sisters S2 died with black screen of death, also after approx 2 years and now my phone after close to 3 years, I can only suspect that Samsung has made the phone to die this fast. I only know of 2 more persons that have such a phone and their phones are not so old yet. But I guess theirs will die after 2-3 years as well. :-/
So, it was interesting having a smartphone and I liked it, but now I am back on my trusty old Nokia i6110 (has run 11 years without issues and with original battery, still lasting 3-4 days per charge).
But I'd like a new smartphone, just not a Samsung. They have burned me enough.
I just learned that the phone might be salvageable using the JTAG interface. So, any JTAG'ers around the Århus, Denmark area?

There's a thread called jTAG centre near you or something like that, look it up, maybe you can stike luck.
My device is like 3 years now, but it's gonna live forever, I'ma see it thru
If you have any linux (get a live cd for free everywhere) at hand post 'lsusb' into an terminal when the phone is connected. if it shows up any sign of an active usb device it might still be alive, else it truly is a jtag case

Galaxy S5 won't turn on

Hi,
unfortunately I have a problem with my Galaxy S5 running CM.
Some days ago, the power button got stuck in the case so that it was pressed for quite a long time. When I tried to turn the phone back on it only showed the logo for a while, vibrated and rebooted.
I tried to boot the phone in safe mode which didn't help and then in 'transfer mode' (sorry, I don't know the right term. I think it's the mode where I transfer a custom ROM). The latter without connecting to a computer so it said something like 'transfering, don't turn off' for a while. Eventually, I had to turn off the phone cause nothing happened.
Now, when I try to boot the phone it just vibrates and stays black. Not even a LED flashes. When I connect it to my PC it vibrates and the PC recognizes something but doesn't show any connected hardware. It just installs a driver.
People at a repair store said the screen is dead but I don't really believe it because there was no physical damage of any sort.
Is there a way to repair my phone?
If you turned it off mid flash you have no ROM. There's nothing to boot. Use volume up, power and home while booting. Load recovery. Flash the ROM and don't stop it. If it doesn't work get a different ROM and try again
