Here is my issue. I'm stuck on AT&T. I am contemplating buying the slide, rooting it and using it on AT&T (in b4: at&t sucks), and well... I am just stuck between getting the touch pro 2 and the 3g slide. I am a long time user of HTC (kaiser, wizard), and I love the way the phones run, but they just don't seem to get any faster. And android is more conducive to getting good apps. WinMo just doesn't have the development like android does. So my issue is.. Is the slide worth getting? I have also heard that the slide won't run on AT&T's 3G network... Any hotfixes for that? That's kind of an important issue I suppose.. Anyways, any slide users from AT&T have any feedback / anyone compared the touchpro 2 to the slide? I've been scouring google looking for comparisons but nothing insightful has come up. Thank you.

Can't help you on comparing phones, but the slide will not do 3G on AT&T's network. The radio operates at different frequencies for 3G than what AT&T uses, there is nothing you can do to make it work.

Why don't you just go with the aria.my wife has the mt3g slide and I have the aria. Theres not much of a difference between the two except size and a keyboard. The aria is a beast. Don't let the size fool ya.also they have the new samsung galaxy and I think a dell streak that's supposed to be pretty good too.

I had the aria, and it's not condusive to texting. I went and sold it for $350 on ebay and was going to buy the slide until I realized it doesn't support AT&T's 3g network.

Look into the Galaxy. I had the joy of playing around with one, and am seriously debating on if I want to sell my Slide and grab one. Wonderful hardware, amazing battery life for the hardware in it, and I have never seen a display that made things look so nice.
My only gripe is the lack of a physical keyboard, but Swype does a damn fine job of handling most of my texting needs, only hassle is dealing with terminal and typing in commands.
Yea, did you try swype? It makes typing a breeze on the smaller screen. But by all means go check your att store for the galaxy or the dell streak. They are very high end devices. But also no keyboard

I am trying to get peoples opinions about on which phone I should get... I have a Samsung Vibrant and I hate the phone... I have narrowed down to the two options, 1) Mytouch 4G or 2) G2. I don't know which one i should get or if any of those two are for me at all. If everyone could give me their opinions that would be awesome!
Slide out keyboard over front facing camera anyday... g2
Its personal preference. Both have advantages over the other. The MyTouch4G has a front facing camera, 256MB more ram and is slimmer. The G2 has a full physical keyboard, more solid design, better dev support.
the mytouch series is a joke. they're for people who dont really know what android is and its capabilities.
g2. any day.
or if its your cup of tea, wait for the nexus s.
Nexus S. Buying a mt4g is a joke right now.

I would take the mytouch 4g over the nexus s. It has more features and the hardware is better. It may not be as pretty as the nexus s but it's not ugly.

Its true.
But it wasnt long ago the ORIGINAL MyTouch got a Froyo update.
So you already know how TMO will be treating updates for the MyTouch 4G.
Its very possible you wont get Gingerbread till after Honeycomb is released.
You have to decide what you want in a phone.
I just moved from the Nexus One to the G2 this weekend to give it a try.
The G2 is faster but I may jump back to the N1 so I can have Gingerbread.
I like the faster updates personally.
I wont get a Nexus S for a few months after they are released.
I'll wait till they start showing up on Craigslist for $200 less than the
price of a new one.

Except T-Mo 4G is not 4G... its just HSPA+, but the Nexus S doesnt even have HSPA+.
The G2 has the same connection speed as the MT4G, and is just as powerful, if not more so especially with the crazy overclocks it can pull.

Remember the G2 has full support from the ROM makers. It will get Gingerbread pretty soon via XDA. I say matter of weeks, maybe days after the Gingerbread source has been released

Yeah so sick of this argument. NOBODY has real "technical" 4G. But its faster than 3G, so that makes it 4G. Its a new generation of data speeds, get over the semantics. I do agree that its lame to exclude some of the things excluded on the Nexus S, including 4G.

G2 if you type a lot and want almost stock Froyo
Mytouch4G if you want a front facing camera and don't mind TMobile's HTC sense
But then again this is XDA, you can root and get whatever lovely ROM a developer has cooked up on your phone. So it just comes down to hardware if you want to root it.

Not to mention at current speeds (whatever you want to call them) it's very easy to eat through your entire monthly bandwidth cap in an afternoon. Given this, wtf is the point of more speed? I'd take a higher cap over more speed any day of the week at this point.

EDGE is faster than GPRS (2G), so did that make it 3G ? HSDPA is faster than 3G, so should we call that 4G ?
HSPA+ isn't "4G", so I don't think it's helpful to label it as such. Bad T-Mobile !
I got the G2 and my wife picked the white MyTouch 4G. Personally, I think the G2 is better (obviously). It has a hardware keyboard, better dev support, stock Android (with a *really* easy HTC Sense port, since the Desire Z is the same hardware).
Preferences aside, the MyTouch line is really.....plasticky. When I use her phone, the plastic squeaks like crazy - that annoys me like no other, especially on such a 'high-end' phone.

Thank you. Peoples need to understand this. 4G by ITU-R standards is only available through networks with IMT-Advanced, and trust me....NO network has that capabilities yet......
With that aside,I'd go with the G2!! More industrial feel, not plasticky like samsung and mytouch 4g. Even the nexus S won't feel as good as the G2, even with the better hardware.
I wish Google would have stayed with HTC for the second Nexus.
keyboard or NO keyboard, that is the question..
I went with the Desire Z for a few reasons:
Great Developer Support
GREAT Build Quality - I HATE phones that are made of any plastic/cheap material
QWERTY Keyboard - I send upwards of 100 Messages a day between SMS and Email
New Generation Processor - The 800mhz was a disappointment to me when I read the specs, but after reading of its over-clocking capabilities and having run mine at 1.4ghz for the past few weeks, this is a huge advantage of the G2/Desire Z.

Why didn't you at least Win7.1? Also, how is going from Verizon to AT&T improvement, I switched from them, I was tired of never having 3G.
What bugged you about Verizon so much?
I can't wait to switch back to at&t. gsm has never failed me for reception nor data issues. Verizon has overswamped towers in my area. my avg reception is between -85 to -92 db while holding one bar for dear life. switching to 1xrtt does nothing.

Wow - that sounds like a nightmare. Leaving Android and Verizon for ATT and Windows 6.5... I hope you wake up from that terrifying dream soon!
hi, guys/.. i need to make a decision about which phone to get. i'm torn between the HTC EVO 4G and the HTC Inspire 4G. whats important for me is battery life and camcorder and camera quality. i got 3 questions:
1) if optimized with the best roms and kernels for each, which is the best one in terms of batt life?
2) again, if optimized with best roms and kernels, which is the best one in terms of smoothness of camcorder and camera quality?
3) can i use the front camera on the EVO 4G for video chat?
4) do you use video chat a lot?
.
Quite obviously, asking in an Evo 4G forum won't get you biased answers. Just saying.
Yeah, I'd hope you'd be asking the same question in the Inspire 4G forums as we, over here, can 'mostly' speak for what we know. The Evo has great dev support / following and I can't be bothered to look (not that it would even be representative of the Inspire support) if it's even similar.
I would first look at providers / carriers. AT&T kind of sucks ... then again, as some will tell you, Sprint doesn't have the greatest coverage in certain areas. I'd first look past the phone options, and on to coverage. I love Sprint, not only because I get good coverage here, but also due to the unlimited data. But that may not be the case for you. Overall, the Inspire may be a better device but I can't be bothered to look. If you are serious about joining Sprint, maybe you'd consider the EVO 3D? Entirely a better phone, yet still waiting on root. Chances are, unless you should get lucky, you'd end up with an un-rootable Evo. In time, though ....
I wouldn't necessarily look, first, to the phones. The Evo is a dated device, no denying that, but still solid. So before you lock yourself in anywhere ...
don't worry about the phones. focus on the service.
Sprint has unlimited 4g data ATT don't
ATT has faster 4g
Sprint is cheaper.
ATT may have better coverage in your area..... maybe it doesn't make a difference. I live i philly. I never have a problem with coverage, even 4g unless I'm undeground which noone has coverage.
I suggest you start with sprint and if you aren't happy with the service return your phone with in 30 days get your money back and go to ATT.
But signing a two year contract you really should get a phone that will be decent in two years. You ain't going to want a evo 4g in two years. Evo 3d on the other hand will blow any HTC on any carrier out of the water right now
Why are these your only two options?
Neither are great choices as of right now imo...

it all depends if you wanted to root right away.. The Evo 4g shipped from Sprint is now only shipped with the OTA 2.3.3 which is unrootable atm. Hopefully soon as there seems to be alot of progression going on.
The Inspire 4g I dont know much about because I've always wanted an Evo when I started with an Android Phone.. LG Optimus S was my 1st android and now the Evo which is making me mad because I cant root yet.. thanks to HTC locking the bootloader

1. inspire has a slightly better batt life but only by minutes.
2. camera is about the same
3. yes u can use the evo's ffc for video chat i have used skype, qik and gtalk
4. once or twice a week.
Also another thing to note is the inspire does have sense 2.1 stock and the evo does not. But with a custom rom u can get sense 2.1 or 3.0 on the evo.
ONE HUGE PROBLEM with the inspire is their is a bug where the newest firmware was supposed to unlock non market installs but on some phones the option is still locked. HTC and att do not have a date on when this will be fixed. So what this means is if u get a inspire with this bug u will not be able to install apps from the sd card or the amazon market, U will only be able to install apps thru the android market. This to me makes the choice pretty clear evo all the way
Just get the evo 3D
I would agree with the EVO 3d statement and the plan suggestions. Right now Sprint is the only carrier offering unlimited data plans. Which is pretty huge considering how many things are going cloud based now. Music Beta, Amazon, Spotify, Netflix, Google Movies, etc.. This is more important than ever now.
However, if you never see yourself using these services its really a moot point.
Of course, If you do go with sprint, I'd suggest getting the 3d over the evo if you can spare the extra hundo. Its a way more powerful phone.
To those comparing 4G of Sprint and AT&T...
Aren't they both NOT true 4G? The carriers are just marketing it as 4G because it's faster than 3G. If I remember correctly, 4G is supposed to be between 100mb/s and 1gb/s. The technologies we see right now are considered pre-4g, since they only get up to 144mb/s (144 for WiMAX, 100 for LTE) I'm taking this from the 4G wiki page: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G
And yes I know AT&T isn't on either yet... they use HSPA+ which shouldn't even be considered 4G at all lol

yes the front camera can be used for video chat. I personally don't see the big deal behind it but if thats your cup of tea then ok. Judge camera quality for yourself by asking to see pictures taken from each phone.
But really all the differences are slight enough where service and price are the biggest noticable differences.

I've had my HD2 for quite a while now, and I've loved it. Flashed and tried many different ROMS with it.. I am currently running Dormanix newest ROM without SWAP, been using it for a while now...
However, I recently got a data plan (yes, i've been using this phone for 2 years without data..sadly..) and I live in Canada on the Rogers network. After I got data, I found out that Rogers runs on 850Mhz while my HD2 T8585 runs on 900Mhz, so I am only able to get 2G (Edge) Data connection in Canada.
I'm thinking of purchasing either the HTC EVO 3D or the HTC 4G since it's very similar to the HD2...and I could finally enjoy the full functions of my phone.. Is this a good choice? I'm leaning towards the EVO 3D more than the 4G.. or should I look at other phones?
I am currently in China, this is also where I bought my HD2, I have one more week here and I am deciding whether or not to upgrade my phone...
Take a look at the Xiaomi Mi-One. It's the official phone of MIUI ROM, and only sold in China. It comes with a 1.5 Ghz dual core Snapdragon, 1 GB RAM, an 8 MP camera, 4 GB of internal space, and a 4 inch screen. They're $310, and that's off contract and unlocked. I would suggesting trying to get one of those [ or at least taking a look at them] if I were in your position!
will that phone work in canada? full 3G network? The only reason why I'm planning to get the EVO 3D is because my HD2 cannot run on the 3G network in Canada since it only runs on 850Mhz frequency, which my HD2 T8585 is on 900Mhz frequency...
the EVO 3D runs on that frequency, and its pretty much an upgrade of my HD2.. I just don't want to waste money on an EVO 3D if it's not that much better of a phone than the HD2.. The only thing that it has that the HD2 doesn't, is the 3d camera, a better overall look, and the 1GB of RAM.. however i'm willing to pay for that to get the 3G in Canada because Edge honestly..sucks..
Xiaomi Mi-One runs on: GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA 900/1800/1900/; 850/2100MHz
3D is ok but I would think it is not really much of an upgrade.
Maybe a Samsung Note ! hard one really, I like the Note but want to see Android mature a bit better before parting with my money.
You just going to have to balance options on price/spec & pick on price or good hardware upgrade ... Good luck ...
I got a HTC Evo 3D after my good old HTC-HD2 broke.
Nothing wrong with the HTC Evo 3D (I've been using it for some time now), but for some reason I'm still missing my HTC-HD2 everyday!
Even today I was looking at Ebay for a cheap 2nd hand HTC-HD2 to just have as a backup.
The Samsung Note doesn't look bad at all! I will look further into that.
and to the above post, what do you miss about your HD2 that your EVO 3D doesn't have..? The only thing I see is that the HD2 has a lot more ROMS and customizable options which I love.. the EVO 3D section in this forums isn't nearly as good as the HD2 section...
The Mi-One works on AT&T 3G I believe, so it should work on Rogers 3G as well.
well the evo 3d is snappier, but the evo 4g is king of android devolopment!
