Well guys i sold my incredible i couldnt deal with verizon anymore i went to at&t and a new phone of course I went back to Windows Mobile 6.5 I stuck with HTC it was HTC or bust pretty much so i'm picking up an HTC Tilt 2 well it was nice having an android but i got work to do modding winmo 6.5
Why didn't you at least Win7.1? Also, how is going from Verizon to AT&T improvement, I switched from them, I was tired of never having 3G.
What bugged you about Verizon so much?
I can't wait to switch back to at&t. gsm has never failed me for reception nor data issues. Verizon has overswamped towers in my area. my avg reception is between -85 to -92 db while holding one bar for dear life. switching to 1xrtt does nothing.

Horrible speeds for 3g and at&t was cheaper for me only thing i miss is unlimited data for smartphones, I'm wondering if i could use at&t's medianet data for their feature phones on my at&t smartphone that'd be sweet i'd save 50%+ a month instead of 25%+
Why dont you buy an htc sensation and put it on ATT?
I had a Touch Pro2 on VzW, which as far as I know, is nearly the same thing as the Tilt 2, but I think most people regard the VzW version as the superior one. I upgraded to an Incredible, and I can't imagine ever going back to it. You must have really hated Verizon!

I left verizon also for the lack of signal etc ( live in the sticks ) flashed my DINC to Metropcs.. got tired of losing signal at my driveway.. so now with att.. so far have a strong signal everywhere. and faster data than i had with sprint or verizon.. so atm im pleased.. i got a htc inspire.. so far love it.. batt life could be better. but no worse than the dinc was.... You just have to fine what works for u.. cause im sure in the big cities its harder to choose.. but in the sticks.. its whoever gets the best signal for me..

I have a magic (from rogers, so it works on At&t 3g) but I really really wanna get on board with the Nexus.
I am in NJ so TMo says 3g coverage is good, but i am just skeptical.
plus i have a family plan on at&t, wife uses iphone, doubt i could talk her into giving it up...
anyone gonna use the nexus on at&t and go without 3g???
I will be replacing my iphone with the nexus tomorrow when the n1 arrives. Because of how awful 3g is in my area (live in seattle work in redmond) I have been using edge almost exclusively. Funnily enough, my dropped calls have ceased after the 3g=>edge move. Go figure
I plan to keep my iphone handy and see just how painful the n1 is without the ability to attempt 3g if I really want it or need it (maps come to mind and so does pandora though both have been acceptable on edge thus far).
Perhaps I can call ATT and have them remove 3g from my account saving me some money each month.
I'm going to try it out on AT&T to see if/(how much) I miss 3g. If I can't get along without it, I'll just switch to T-Mobile. I live in Dallas so both AT&T and T-Mobile have full coverage.
For me, the people I talk to the most are on ATT and it would cost me more to continue my phone habits on a different provider than to just stick with ATT. Moving back to T-Mobile is not an option at this point. I really do wish I had kept my G1 when I made that move
yeah, i was thinking the same thing, just try my non-3g life out and go from there.....at least i'm not alone!
like you said, i have a family / friends all on att, so i might cost more if i were on tmo now...
thakns for input, good luck to us!
I have a g1 & mytouch on at&t just unlocked it. i dont mind having 2G only cuz my battery life is increased and when i get home i have wifi so i just attach to it to get better speeds.. i plan on getting the nexus one when i have the money for it. i didnt know the rogers phones are at&T compatible. anyone wanna sell or trade devices? PM ME
thanks
I hated having my iPhone on Tmobile, no 3G kinda killed the use of an iPhone, the call quality wasn't that great, and though it was handy, it was a bit annoying knowing that I had no 3G. I sold it for $370, used that money to buy a N1 :]
I have an xperia X1a.... and am probably going to buy a nexus.. I"m tired of people w/ cheap, crappy phones having way better internet speed than me.
BUT.. I will make sure that X10 really isn't tmo 3g compatible.
WHy won't the n1 get 3G- any idea when they might change that?
well, the n1 doesn't have the 850 mhz frequency that att runs there 3g on.
the n1 is coming to verizon in the spring and will have 3g......i honestly don't think n1 will ever get to att, especially since google is obviously battling with iphone.....
i really would love the n1, but i honestly don't know i could give up my magic with 3g on ATT......i was just downloading at 1600 kb/sec....pretty damn fast.
the 2g speed is only like 180 kb/sec.

hello N1!
No AT&T 3G means no Nexus One for me. So my only hope now is that HTC releases their own branded version with Sense (which I would have wanted anyway) shortly after the hype blows over.
If the Acer A1 hits in the meantime, I'm going to get that I guess. No way in hell I'm switching to T-Mobile for any reason. They have zero coverage where I live and no roaming agreements with AT&T (I live in a Chicago suburb). But in areas where they do work, friends aren't getting 3G and 1/2 the time they aren't even getting EDGE!
Besides, I was only getting the AT&T version of the Nexus One to hold me over until Windows Mobile 7 drops. I have no problem waiting until Windows Mobile 7 and skipping Android altogether.
Personally, I think they screwed up. They gained very little from have Verizon offer it. Verizon customers who want a high end Android device *JUST* bought the Droid and will be getting Android 2.1 soon. If they made an AT&T compatible version, they'd have more potential for sales since AT&T has NO android devices so far and Canadian carriers can also take advantage.

T-mo flipped the switch on their 7.2mbps 3G today. I'm sure it was planned to coincide with the N1 release, lol... anyway, T-mo is now the fastest GSM 3G in the U.S., right?
Edit: Just came across this article: http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/atandt-kicks-it-into-overdrive-rolls-out-7-2mbps-everywhere-bu/
Seems that AT&T now has a fire under its ass to follow suit. They too are speeding up their upgrade to 7.2mbps, but they won't have the backbone up to speed for a while apparently.

Winmo over Android? Really!?! For Microsoft's sake I hope you're right, but I think it's highly unlikely that WM7 will be enough to make Windows a plausible mobile platform. I've been in the wireless industry for a few years and Windows Mobile has, for just as long, been a last resort for anyone but the most diehard Windows fanatic(you?).
I do however agree that it's a win for those of us on T-Mobile. That make's five Android devices to choose from! And for the record I'll be picking up a Nexus One as soon as they start offering it with the employee discount!

Seriously man... blame AT&T and Apple for their internal agreements. It's because of the iPhone that AT&T isn't allowed to bring in any products that would cannibalize sales of the iPhone. Once exclusivity expires... Android devices will storm AT&T as well.

Good afternoon all,
I'm thinking about selling my HTC Hero (sprint version) and going with the Nexus One with T mobile. Since I am able to get out of the contract without paying ETF this might be the best opportunity to take advantage of this. Any reasons why I should not do this? I am pretty satisfied with my hero, but faster is always better .
I'm looking for some pros/cons.

TMobile's 3G network is the smallest of the big four, and they don't roam on anyone.
If the Nexus One worked on Sprint/CDMA I would get it. I'd rather wait than deal with TMobile's not so great US network.

There will be many better phones in the next year.
Yeah... look at their coverage map. It's a joke compared to Sprint/Verizon/AT&T. I'd drop Sprint right now and get a N1 if the coverage in Illinois wasn't next to zero.
Why is it that all the coolest gadgets get to one of the worst carriers first? I love the specs of the Supersonic (EVO 4G) or whatever you want to call it. The problem is with Sprint. I've tested HTC EVDO products (HTC Titan) back to back with HTC GSM products (HTC TyTN). The CDMA products suck battery life much more quickly than the GSM products. If found this on almost every Sprint and Verizon CDMA smartphone. This is probably why the the Supersonic has a larger battery.
Also, it is true that some CDMA products do not allow simultaneous data and voice transmission. This may not be true of this device because it will be able to do CDMA for phone and WimaX for data. I am very interested in this device but I'd be much more interested if this device were on AT&T or even T-Mobile.
I am loving the HD2 running on AT&T. But I'd love more internal memory, the front facing camera, the kickstand, the better camera, etc.
sprint is the cheapest carrier, but valid point with battery useage. I also don't particularly like having to get an "OK" from sprint to change phones. Wish you could use a SIM card.
question though... how often are you browsing the web or using data while talking on the phone? I can't think of one instance in my past 10 years with a cell phone that I needed data while talking. If you're on the net, your data gets put on hold untill after your phone call is over. Back when I had dialup, my phone service offered a similar feature, and cdma does the exact same thing.
As far as everything else, speeds, coverage, dropped calls, annoying but I hear complaints from customers from all the different carriers, it's a cell phone thing.
OH! and where's my damn sprint iPhone? I'm calling BS on cdma getting all the cool toys... I had to wait a year before sprint finally got an android phone, while t-mobile / att had all types of phones that could be used on their network *rage*
let us have our moment in the spotlight for once.... sheesh
hold on boy
i think sprint is the better than att all the way. at least here in San Francisco.
The plans are better than att.
i have friends with their iphones and their internet sucks compare with my htc pro 2 on sprint.
And htc evo data details.
4g + data= Works
3g + data= No
wifi+data=Works
I can't wait for this phone.
No matter what carrier get the cool things first there is always some spoiled brat shouting out loud.

And this @ OP.
I really really hope there is a GSM version coming out soon.
lol there is gonna be a GSM version no doubt. there will definitely be a variant of the Supersonic(aka EVO 4G here in the US for Sprint) in Europe/overseas NO DOUBT that you'll only be able to use on EDGE here but there will probably also be a GSM variant here in the states for another carrier that is basically the same phone but a little different and with different radios or whatever. an example would be the supersonic for t-mobile, lets say their first HSPA+ compatible phone or something, they call it whatever they want and HTC basically makes it for them using the core parts of the supersonic and keeps everything like android and whatnot and just changes up the radio and changes CDMA to GSM and puts in tmo's 3g bands in the radio, and whatever other physical changes t-mo may want like the buttons and whatever.

Last time i checked, Sprint (and by extension CDMA) usually gets last dibs on the cool phones. Name them...Touch Diamond/Pro/Pro 2, HTC Hero, Nexus 1. They never even carried the Touch Diamond 2 till today.
it is true, I wish there were sim cards.. but other than that, in the bay area, sprint kicks ass!
I have never gotten one dropped call since I got my hero, and I talk 2000+ minutes a month. I have 3g almost everywhere.
Also, no matter what people say, sprint has amazing customer service. I mean, at least you don't get put on the line with some indian guy half way around the world who just tells you to turn your phone off then on again...

AT&T does suck, but I'm stuck on them. I use Sprint for my data service (aircards FTW) and they have AMAZING customer service. Whereas AT&T just *****es about everything and tells you how wrong you are, then tells you how happy they are you stay them. If they didn't have such fast 3G (which in my rural area isn't crowded, so it is reliable) I would switch to Sprint in a heartbeat. Too bad EvDo pretty much sucks

Or the Nexus
I think the battery suck issue is not so bad given the fact that you can get almost unlimited voice, data, and messaging (of all sorts), plus turn by turn GPS+traffic routing, for $70/mo, less with discounts.
Where's AT&T or TMo's 4G network? I don't hear them actually deploying LTE in any other market other than testing. Kudos to Sprint... psyched for EVO.
ok, so the deal with this phone, ive been reading up on the specs, 4g (6mb/s) is 10x faster then 3g(300mb/s) i run off clearwire internet witch happens to run off the same exact wi-max as sprint and let me tell you, it is FAST. the processor in the phone is a massive 1ghz! for a phone, thats a overkill, plus 588mb of ram... i cant wait to try to overload this phone... probaly take 50+ apps running at once... 4.3 inch touch screen, 8 mega pixel camera, android 2.1 (unless they release a update before the phone is released) i say all in all this phone is going to be by far the fastest android phone on the market, and PS: the HTC HD2 IS the same exact phone just running WinMo 6.5, slightly better processor but clocked the same, same ram, same screen size, its the same phone with a slightly different button layout.
you can check out the side by side specs here

Wrong OS, mate.
he did say "variant"
as in its not exactly the same but close, a knockoff, cousin, whatever. everything is almost identical spec wise just the os is different. thus its a variant. if GSM'ers want the evo in a gsm model. you could help with the port of android to the hd2. just a thought.
.
It's not really a variant. The OS makes them completely different. One is full of future; another is just about dead. Unless someone could port a high quality and well tested Android into it, then it would be a different story.
Well I the closes variant to the Evo 4g is the Desire or Nexus One. If you can do away with the 4.3 inch screen, 4g Wimax, 8MP camera and the extra memory. Well the year is young, so who knows.
Sprint is great in Minneapolis.
Come to papa Evo.
Hey guys,
I have kind of a unique situation...
I do a lot of International travel for work - as such I currently have a VzW TP2. About a week ago the screen "shattered" (beneath the surface - phone still works fine). Looking at VzWs International Phones, I am disgusted by my options...
They can get me a replacement TP2, but then I will be locked into 2 years (work policy) with an already out-dated hardware phone (love the phone - but even with the Overclock now...a 3mp camera w/o flash...etc...it is out-dated). Of course they offered me an Imagio and or the LG Fathom. None of these phones make me excited about having it for 2 more years.
I really want either an Incredible or an X (too bad they arent International)...I was sort of leaning toward the Incredible since I like HTC and from what I understand they use the same battery...so just assuming the Incredibles battery life is better? Plus the X doesnt have a flash does it?
Anyway... to my question.
What I was thinking about doing - was getting an Incredible or an X - using that Domestically and then before I travel, de-program it (*228 ???) and program my cracked up TP2 and use that overseas, and when I come back de-program the TP2 and re-program the Incredible/X.
I travel about 1-3 weeks per trip, and usually about 6-8 trips per year.
The crappy part is I use my TP2 to watch movies on the plane from time to time...so if I use the cracked TP2 when traveling...I will be watching movies on a busted up screen...which sounds crappy but I REALLY want an Incredible or an X.
So - those of you that have the Incredible - and hopefully some of you were former TP2 users - would the above scenario be worth it to you? Or would you just get a replacement TP2 (my current TP2 is OC'ed stable at 729mhz - runs very smooth, but was never happy with the camera. only way to get a "decent" picture is to take the cover off before you take the picture) ???
The other option I may have is switching to AT&T and getting the Captivate...but not a huge fan of going to AT&T.
Sorry for the long post - looking forward to hear what you all have to say.
Sounds like a pretty good plan, sorry about ur broke screen. couldn't u use incredible on the plane though? Airplane mode with WiFi on?
Is for activating and deactivating I couldn't tell u, sorry.

yeah i could - just dont really care to have to carry 2 phones around =)
i travel pretty light (one to the big things i loved about getting my tp2 - stopped taking a phone, camera, ipod and went to just the TP2).
VzWs International phone selection is horrible right now...(not that it was ever great).
I personally love the DInc. I came from the samsung intensity(lol) to lg dare, to droid eris, to the DInc.
such a great phone you wont be dissappointed
I came from a Touch Pro 2 same as you, I loved my TP2. As far as an International phone It's pretty hard to beat.
That being said, aside from the International aspect there is no comparison.
It did take me a while to get used to not having a keyboard but the benefits of the Incredible make it well worth it.
Get the Incredibe, you won't regret it.
Also, you might look into getting a replacement screen for your TP2.

from what i have found looks like no (CDMA only) ???
You could also pick up a used storm or tp2 for a few bucks and get the dinc for day to day. Tp2 would probably be a better choice since the batteries are interchangable. Seen them all over cl for cheap.

CDMA actually has a pretty fair international penetration. The GSM folks would have you believe that you can barely travel outside the USA and still use CDMA. Nothing could be further from the truth, and GSM is no panacea either. It has the same differing frequency issues as CDMA does.
Here's an interactive map of CDMA areas worldwide so you can check if where you tend to travel has CDMA coverage. http://www.cdg.org/worldwide/index.asp
You can also check with Verizon to see what countries they have CDMA roaming capability in.
If there is CDMA in the area you travel, get the Incredible.
Update: VZW has a very inexpensive dual CDMA/GSM phone, the Escapade, that is well reviewed. It isn't fancy, but it will keep you in touch.

Just curious... why do u not want the fathom? Its running a snapdragon 1GHz processor - I have one and I love it, everything runs really smoothly.
Not trying to start a debate or anything... like I siad - I'm just curious.

3.2MP camera, maybe it is better than the 3.2MP camera on the TP2 - but I dont want to bother. I'd like a GOOD camera and would prefer a flash if possible...

You can also check with Verizon to see what countries they have CDMA roaming capability in.

the hell
Same rumor running amok, but baseless rumors aside, would it be that surprising that a Verizon Nexus S will take advantage of a network which Veriz. is about to push hard (LTE/"4G")? Will Samsung's processors be optimized by February for different network's "4G"?
It's entirely possible, even understandable.
This could be true, but I bet Verizon will want Google to plaster their logo on it and give it some "features"(bloatware) only available on Verizon. Also, there is no way Samsung would ever have that much time to optimize a new radio in 2 months without them ****ing up:
"Dear Samsung, my 4g radio keeps going out please fix it!"
Fix? Oh just use 3g, you now have a 3g enabled device.
Just an example that you can't rush things like that. Unless they have been working real closely with Samsung to deliver a 4g enabled Nexus S. A Nexus S sounds a little more realistic but a 4g Nexus S sounds pretty much unimaginable. Notice how Samsung didn't even put the HSPA+ on this one, you really think they are going to make their second flagship device not have 4g and make a new edition that does the some minor changes(like an iPhone)?
Im sorry but Tmobiles HSPA 7.2 is plenty fast,

T-mobile's HSPA+ 21mbps is faster
I doubt it. Why would they want a google flagship phone. There are rumors that they are getting the iphone. May go to sprint?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Verizon getting their version of the Nexus-S would not surprise me one bit if they did.
Remember, Verizon had their own version of the Nexus-1 as well... called the HTC Incredible

And max out on 10, if lucky. Vibrant maxed at 7.2mbps. G2 hit 10. Nothing higher. And probably won't be.
Even then, holy cow guys. 7.2mbps is super fast. Guess what Verizon does? 1-2. Guess what AT&T does? 1.3~? Guess what Sprint "4g" does? Honestly dunno but I'm assuming 2-6.
T-Mobile was already lightning fast before this whole "4g" talk and I have no complaints. 7.2mbps on my cell phone is fast enough for the next... year. Of course then I'll be buying the Nexus 3.
i get like 2-3mbs on the myTouch 3g Slide and i dont complain about it. Im in NY I would think i be getting higher.

you got to remember in new york peak time is all the time
In Corona CA/LA area i get 5-6 mbs down and 1.3 up
it should be noted that mbs/kbps is not a very true depiction of data transfer

and i would go into a Verizon store a brutally slaughter everyone hahaha
Doubt Verizon is gonna get the Nexus S. You guys do know that, so far, the last two Samsung Android phones Verizon released had Bing on it, right? Also, none of them had the Droid name. I don't know if Verizon would want to change that pattern.
