performance all the way.
if you then need more battery just underclock or change governor.

GB roms ...simple with minimal essential apps..later users can have a choice to put his own apps/themes,options to be provided for special themes or performance.. memory and battery performance tweaked..
Is there any way to build with Cyanogen Mod / MIUI based GB Roms..?

Performance, battery life lasts a day with moderate use

One that you can install with an update.pkg, I've read so many threads about flashing and I'm even more confused about it than I was before I read any. Why make it so difficult, surely the android world would benefit from making it easier to install custom roms :-D

Light, themed like minimal text theme for adw launcher [for example]
Tweaked, option for battery life mode or performance mode, something unique touch,
Something that has till now not even introduced for steak as a Rom

[Q] Which ROM to use?

I see several ROMs but I don't know how to pick one.
Can someone who has used them all please give me an overview and the plusses and minuses?
Thanks!

My favorite rom setup right now us Andromeda 1.1.1a with the MixUp kernel (no voodoo). I think its a really fast setup with amazing battery life.

What's the difference between the one WITH voodoo and the one without?
Voodoo removes the bluish tint inherant to stock epic... but in my experience it only works when the screen brightness is at 100%

Voodoo is a different color scheme that can get rid of the blue tint that bothers some people. It only works at 100% brightness so I don't really have a use for it. The I have never really noticed a blue tint with my epic. If you want to know more about voodoo there is a link in the MixUp kernel thread that has all the details.
I should also mention that I use Launcher Pro Plus instead of touchwiz and I replaced the tocuhwiz calendar with the stock AOSP calendar. For clock speed management I use the Overclock widget instead of setcpu.

I second this! I've had the Nexus One with Froyo CM6 and the HTC EVO with Froyo CM6 and the stock rom that comes with the Epic is an excellent performer. All I did was root my stock rom and install clockwork recovery for backups. I then installed the SDX App remover which backs up and allows you to remove any app that the phone came preloaded with. I then removed the apps I didn't want. I also installed ADW Launcher which I prefer over TW and the Epic performs flawlessly! I flashed all sorts of different roms on my Nexus One and my Evo looking for a speedy, lag free bugless rom. The stock Epic rom with 2.1 performs on par with any of those other two phones I owned with their custom roms. My Epic is quick and bug free! Sure it might not have out of this world stats but I do not even notice that in real world usage. Touchwiz is not a huge makeover and resource hog like Sense UI. People complain about the Epics apps and they want to replace them with AOSP apps. TW apps ARE AOSP apps they are just slightly customized so that can be branded as TW apps. There theming is a little different and I actually like their custom touches which I think make them just that much more usable than AOSP apps. It will take a killer rom for me to stop enjoying my Epic the way I have it customized it with the stock rom.
By the way you can also install the custom TW 3.0 which lets you customize the app menu and dock!

A rooted stock rom is fine to stick with provided you install superuser.apk and apply the fix to joeykrim's root method that allows superuser.apk to work. I made a post with the instructions in the forum. Otherwise you are running a rooted rom with no control over which apps get root access and that is just crazy. Also, there is no reason to stay with the stock kernel. The undervolted Mixup kernel will increase your battery life by at least a few hours. That alone is reason to use it over stock even if you don't want the other enhancements.
I retired all the roms except backed snacks. My fav and current set up is thee boss rom v.3 with mixup kernel and blue minimalist theme. I also use the paid version of launcher pro. My phone is quick and snappy and full of eye candy
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I had some issues with the Boss .02... some force closes (which permission fixing didn't fix). I had no issues with either the Epic Experience or BUB'S AOSP roms... both are extremely stable on my Epic with good battery life and fast performance. Currently I am running the latest Epic Experience ROM with no major issues.

Then you have a working superuser.apk so you don't need to worry about that part of my post but the MixUp kernel is still way way better than the stock kernel on battery life and functionality.
My 2 cents:
I'm using Epic Experience right now and loving it. He's got a few options for those who want to customize things like the lock screen, kernel, LWP's and such. Plus lately he's been updating it like every 15 minutes! lol
The stock rom is actually really good too though. It was rock solid when I was using it. But I'm a ROM junkie so I had to go custom =P

Xperia X10 Dreamed ROM

Hi Guys, many ROM all over this forrum many people somtimes feel confused about all this roms.
I want so say that for my personal opinion we should look for the development of the stock missing things that we all would like to have in this phone.
I recently tried a MIUI ROM from erenz1202 and i really love it, so for me the dreamed ROM should have the following.
1- DLNA
2- faster Startup
3- improved Peformance, Smoothness and Battery
4-Better memory management (stock too laggy)
5- Auto LED Flash (For at least take pics in dark)
6- Radio (i think it's not possible)
7- Apps2SD
8- BRAVIA (I do not care)
9- Stability
Count on my donation if this is possible...
And you, what's your dreamed ROM?
Thanks
Have got mine running wolfs rom with doomlords kernel. Smooth, fast and my battery lasts two days under normal conditions.
Have modded the rom to my liking, and set up link2sd with 1gb partition. I don't see my x10 getting any better really.
My only wish is to be able to change songs with long hold of volume buttons when screen is off like I could with 2.2.

what is the best kernel for x10 brother??
Less useless tweaks and better battery and stability.
Performance ROMS are usually placebos on battery and stability e.g phone becomes laggy after 12 hours without reboot whereas uptime for stock was almost 56 hours.

Yeah I too like that rom but I'm kind of a stock kinda Guy which is why donutHD stole me for good. I would really like to love fxp cm9 for its stockiness but that 30fps thing would make a notebook flip artist feel sick. *sigh* I had this phone going on 3years and still ticking very well. Ordered a new shell and gonna have him as good as new and sell it and I always liked the arc S is ill replace my x10 with it.

Paranoid android rom
PROS
1.awesome ui, phone and tablet mode.
-ability to change apps dpi individually. Dpi for system and framework also can be changed.
Cons
1. Cm9 bugs
This rom is beautiful, I've used many ics roms and this one is perfect, for me.

Rom: Achotjan's xperia S rom.
Pros: I personally love xperia S ui, like the lockscreen music option, good ram management.
Cons: battery life is not that good, initially free ram is about 123MB then after few days use it reduces, which can then be re-obtained by rebooting.
Tweaks: Supercharger v9 (works amazingly on this rom) helps to save my battery juice somewhat.
I used Carbon tweak app for other tweaks like beats audio, dolby, srs, etc.
tried flashing "Ultimate boost" tweak package but dint see any further improvement.
I have used almost every rom including xperia s Ics, mookee, cm7, etc.
first of all hello
im using ThJap's Rom version 18b... you will not find this version in our forum,, idk why but ThJap decided to post his rom on his blog which i downloaded there from.
using stock kernel with it because stock kernel is the only kernel that runs fast in his rom,,, all other kernels are incompatible and will run like turtles.
pros::: all experia looks.,,, battery life is good... very fast and fluid,,,, very stable and no random reboots.
cons.. the only thing this rom doesnt have is the stock lockscreen from xperia s..,,, it has his own themed lockscreen slider which i didnt like. instead i played around with his rom and managed to get stock slider from xperia s integrated..
.i really recommend using this rom ... u will see real differences between other xperia s roms.. i promise...also this rom has lots of customisation there.
I am waiting for review thjap roms.
Currently im using X10S..oh well, stock look is sexy as ever ^ω^
Pros- 2nd cycle of battery, wow i can say! 2 days with normal usage! No lags at all, dunno with games cuz dint test with any..no wlods,no sudden battery drain, excellent deep sleep and the best part is reboot is so damn fast! Damn i hate waiting device rebooting after flashing or whatever.Doom kernel is fast!
Cons- less customization
-very little ram left(the setting itself uses 26-30mb ram-_-||)
Tweak used-supercharger v6 latest release.Thats all.
Overall- I give a 8/10. Its definitely a daily rom for its stabilty and full functionality.

Nice:
Techdevil evolution (stock based)
PROS:
+light, about 180 mb free ram, 150 in normal use :good: :good:,
+fast, smooth and everything goin good,
+fully working camera and video (stockbased...)
+ good gaming performance
+good battery performance
+scrolling is so damn sexy *_____*, I keep on scrolling the whole day
CONS:
+In-App-Settings doesnt work, can easily be fixed by flashing another framework-res.apk
+Theme (meego); not everyboody likes it, but its.at least not another boring sstyle or faked ics...
TWEAKS USED:
none till now, if necessary geeky engine
Btw, kernel: doomkernel v06 FS
Give it nine and a half of ten, because meego icons arent exactly my style and it needs a long time to change them by hand.... But, its sure the best rom i used sooo far (and i tried many)

This week the 3rd rom i flashed !
Rom: DonutHD 2.2.9
Pros:
- Everything u need from X10i !
-Full functionality!
Using th-kernel instead of doom's,some said doom's causing lags with this rom
Th-kernel n5-1 is recommended..
-Deep sleep works so well..no a single drop during standy mode.
-Beautiful UI ,Sexy ICONS!!! XD
-Excellent ram management.(not joking..this rom can compete with mokee rom wic i used before=120-160 free rams all time)
-NO wlods, NO random reboots
-NO boot animation so reboot is damn fast.
Cons: Until now i find none..THis masterpiece just fulfill all my needs for my old X10i.
10 out of 10! If anyone seen my review,U can flash this ROM.Easy and surprises ahead.
Just read some few pages back from the last page and follow the OP in DonutHD thread.
Dont flash any addon from the first page.Developer told so.So just follow his instructions.
NOw.
For Th kernel u have to flash stock kernel after the rom settles.then flash thkernel n5-1 like normal Rom installation.
Happy flashing ^^
cons to donuthd:
- not better than all the other roms (in performance), only different in look, which is
- not beautiful in my eyes, I like my gingerbread lookin like gingerbread
also had three roms this week: stock (for a completely new install), donut hd and now techdevil meego (that i had longer time ago and left because of settings fc, now back cause i fixed it

For the past few days I've been playing around with Paranoid Android, and aside from the usual CM9 bugs being the only cons I've found so far, pros would defiantly be the eye candy factor (hybrid tablet/phone dpi's), and it's also quite stable and fast once you set it up right!
FeraICS V2.1
The best ICS Rom i ever flashed.
This could be my last review in this thread..I found my Rom for my phone (*^﹏^*)
Everyone plz try this Rom!

YEAH!
My Rom: Feralabs ICSv2.
Pros:
+penis grows a bit - caused by ics on x10
+its damn fast and smooth, only forrest can be faster
+good ram ~100 mb
+sexy sexy cm9.1
+at least as good as any gingerbread rom, better in my eyes
+battery is good till now
+two updates till now, new kernel released, v3 in work.
Cons:
-two many preinstalled apps (but thats what I always think)
-thread always spammed by thankful fellows and me ;-D
-big sizebof the rom, its 211 mb in zip package and 315 unzipped (no guarantee^^), caused by aroma installet...
At the end not only another ics rom but a real new generation Rom,bit really predicts the 4th generation of x10 development!
Daily use is guaranteed, and i see no dev that is more ambitioned or skilled like fera!
Greets and try it.

After my frustration with many cm7 and MIUI roms i'm back to stock with DonutHD 2.2.9 r2 and i'm not coming back unless something reeeeeaaaaaly amazing comes out.
Donut is fast, fully functional, stable and battery friendly, i'm using ferakernel v2.7 and nuriJ's mods for status bar and screenshot, i don't need anything else unless it's something that means a significant step foward.
camera 8mp is working im still misssing some features but it takes photos and they are beautiful

Maybe you should wait for FERA v3...the changelog is amazing ! gonna update the rom whenever it's ready!
Bugs are still cm9 bugs..arent my bugs anyway..
Overall just flash Fera's Rom at your own risk..There is no guarantee for your satisfaction.
We are only give recommendation and probably some fun.
Happy flashing!
Ok, I will try it, the worse that could happen is coming back to DonutHD

Customization is key for a lot of people who try custom ROMs. Kernels give some great features as well. We have excellent ROM and kernel devs so its really nice. The Nexus 4 is considered a "dev" phone by a lot of people so why not take advantage of the awesome support we have!

Also, have you tried EVERY kernel? Harsh keeps close to stock, but adds newer patches and fixes, as well as the ability to change gamma. He still uses mpdecision, which retains the stock snappiness.
OP, using custom ROMs lets you have the latest version of Android + all the cool extras.
T9 dialer, Pie and battery percentage are three VERY popular ones. Mind you, there are ways to add these to the stock ROM, but at that point it's not stock.
one word - COLORS
Run stock as long as you happily can. Keep an eye on the more popular custom ROM threads to see if there's any one, or more, features that you absolutely can't live without, if you're at all interested.
You're running a great ROM already and too many people jump into the ring without doing enough research.
The one thing I can't live without is hiding nav bar,
ok, two things, Touch Control.... Since stock kernel disabled it I had to use a custom kernel. Besides it's old habit. I was a Franco kernel user since Galaxy Nexus.
1. The software buttons can take up a lot of space after the status bar is included. Makes the screen feel less like 4.7"
2. The stock colors really are washed out. Modifying the gamma can get you extremely attractive colors.
3. I like being able to have a flashlight and my hotspot a touch away and having custom tiles proves awesome for that.
4. When you're playing Real Racing 3 and your girlfriend texts you, its kind of a pain in the butt to switch windows . The pie in my ROM let's me read and respond to my notifications on the fly.
5. Aesthetics. The boot animation, custom app color recommendations and artwork in general are just awesome on Paranoid Android 3.1. Cooler than Holo at times
6. Better sound. By default the volume on this sucks but now I've installed Xloud it's just right.
But in the end this is a Nexus device. Works just peachy off the bat but coming from the developer concept series from Google, they don't expect you to take it as is. Different strokes for different folks. 4.2.2 is as is. If you want more though the Nexus is the cornocopia of ROM development. Every big league ROM originates here. Another reason to love it among the rest .
Just my two cents
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
CyanogenMod and Stock Kernel
In my opinion the best way to go is CyanogenMod gives you a lot more customization and the battery life, ram speed and CPU clock is perfectly fine so there's no need to get a custom kernel.
Custom rom allows you to control your phone however your want.
As for me, i am using PA Rom. The reason I choose PA because it has some nice tweaks and customization.
- Battery Percentage
- Customizable Lockscreen
- Quick Settings Panel Customization
- Custom color for apps :>
- Volume Button tweaks
- Full Screen (Pie)
All about me.
Customization!!!!!!! I really liked having a top of the line device, except for the crap sound, washed out colors and lack of options. Using P.A.C. Rom with the franco Kernel it seems like a whole new phone. There is almost no end to what I can tweak or modify on my phone. The addition of Awesome Beats and Noozxoide made my phone sound crazy good. Everyones phone is totally their own. No 2 are alike because you can personalize everything. If i wanted the same phone as everyone else I would have bought an Iphone. Once you start flashing you will find it hard to stop. Enjoy the power of Stock for a while and then come to the darkside and you will never want to go back to stock.
There are aspects of custom ROMs and kernels in general that give you an increased fluidity. The nexus 4 is beastly and honestly I run full stock right now until I somehow get bored with its performance and want to Rev the CPU/GPU to its limit

Try it for yourself, bud. Don't be ignorant and make a thread like this.
With the custom rom you can customise more you phone and improve your experience with your phone than stock ROM. Many people said that in latest posts. But no one precise that every custom ROM has some little or big dysfunction. Look the chapter troobleshooting of each custom rom. Even cyanogenmod (very popular) has one.
My strategy is replaced the stock ROM by custom ROM when I 'm feel tired of my phone. And then it allows me to wait several mouths: time to search the right next phone for me and buy it.
How about using the stock deox roms ? This allows you to run the base rom plus flash some small customisations
Customisations in the roms sometimes bring instability, although most of the main roms on here CM /AOKP / AOSP are quite stable but that is why they are development roms

Looks or performance

Dear XDA developers, modders and users i am curious to know do you like more performance and stability of android 2.3 and older or looks and apps of android 4.0 and newer.
I prefer GB roms because for everyday use ICS/GB roms destroy my already weak battery, are slow and unstable imo , also when i download a rom i remove stuff i dont need and add stuff i do.
I edit roms but never publish them as my original work
Check how fast is it these two roms with 50+ user apps. Htc wildfire still good to go.

Well i havent got time for making videos now ,but if you are interested in my roms then i do the following:
* depending on the rom size and features
- gallery
- fm radio
- latinIME
- tts and picotts
- some fonts
- alarms, notifications and ringtones
- gapps if available
- cwm ( i used revolutionary so cwm is not necessary
- cmwallpapers
- bootanimation.zip
+ file manager
+ quickpic
+ keyboard ( using hackers keyboard in this moment )
+ beats sometimes
+ custom ringtones and notifications
+ sometimes i edit the framework-res
conclusion - nothing complicated but by removing apps, fonts , boot animation i shave off +- 20mb of rom size and speed up boot to around 35-40 seconds
and in my barebones rom (cm7 based) i have removed all apps that are safe to remove except :
-music
-camera
-mms
-[App that ive possibly forgot to mention]
and in total my barebones rom has 50mb which i use when i fck up something ( my ubuntu didnt recognize android 4.0 as a usb drive so i couldnt change the rom ; when stuck in bootloop ) because it installs faster and its a good alternative as a rom to give to my younger sister
Because its faster i also change the default wallpaper in roms that i download
Curently i use TouchWiz with sympfinity kernel V4.5 its fast and battery efficient ( and FABULOUS )
P.S. yes wildfire is still good to go but development in xda is ceasing and it has no gpu. Technology is becoming better every day so i will update in the near future but wildfire is a legend and should not be forgotten
Well we still got some people doing good work, have you tried the AOKP light continued by wasimk32 ? I run it smooth and fine with smartass and preety much 5 hungry apps installed other than gapps; I'm only using it for about 5 days now but i did not feel the need to run supercharger, wich is more than i can say for latest gingerbread stock cm considering aokp is ics based.
Also if you want looks+even better performance you can give JellyBread a try made by wasimk32 aswell, i installed it and when i saw my willy fly troughout the apps and menus like a galaxy S2 i almost teared up a bit xD.
Bottom line: I think we can get probably another decent year where we can say willy kept up before we start using it for only its phone-text functions .

ok will try it out, thanks
this poll is no longer a poll its a discussion thread
When I still had my wildfire it was always performance for me. Cm7 was a godsend over that bloody stock Rom. But when it all came down to it as long as I had a fully working flashplayer I was happy
