Hi everyone,
I apologize if this is a basic question, but I have had a hard time finding the correct instructions. My phone already has Android on it, and I am trying to update the radio and update the ROM. I haven't flashed anything on the HD2 yet, but I have flashed a few tablets so I'm familiar with CWM to an extent. Most instructions that I have found for the HD2 are either starting straight from WinMo or already assuming that you know what you are doing. Here is the info on what I currently have.
2.08.HSPL
Radio 2.14.50.04
Magldr V1.13
CWM v3.0.0.5
NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.0 NAND
tytung_r12.4 kernel
OK, so I would like to update the radio to 2.15.50.14. Is there an easy way to do this with Android already on the phone? Once that is updated, to update the ROM I imagine that I'd just follow install instructions at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060
I think I need to start with the radio, though, and that is where I'm not finding the info I need.
Any help is appreciated, and I apologize if this was a simple question.
Just boot into bootloader and flash there using the exe or if its a nbh file rename it to "leoimg.nbh" and put on root of sdcard before booting into bootloader.
Hi,
Thanks for your quick response. So I believe I followed instructions properly. I renamed the radio .nbh to leoimg.nbh and moved it to the root. Went into bootloader and it asked something to the effect of if I wanted to run this, which I did. I got a blue bar across the screen that progressed well until about 90% I'd estimate. There is nothing else on the screen. I don't want to power off or anything, but it has been at this for about 10 min now. What can I do at this point to hopefully avoid any huge issues?
Thanks!

I did move the file to the phone after it was renamed. Once I booted into bootloader it asked to press ower to start update or VolDown to cancel. Now it says that update failed and I can press power to run again or I can press Voldown to go to bootloader. I have a feeling that that means I messed up, but hopefully you guys know how to go from here.
Greg
Ok, so just an update. I took my microSD out, and in bootloader it shows "Upgrade ROM code error Please try again." It does show serial and then changes to USB if connected to computer.
Here is what the top of the screen shows:
PB81120 HX-B3
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x50
I don't know if that helps anyone. I am still reading the boards alot, but haven't found the solution. Any help would be appreciated.
What size sd card did you use?
It has to be 4Gb or smaller or it will fail.
OK, another update. Hopefully this thread helps, as I felt like I had read forever and still didn't have a full grasp on everything. Apparently I was using a microSD transfer, and I was using a microSD that was too big (at least that's the impression I get from other threads). I got a 4GB microSD and followed the thread below, and everything seems to be correct.

(Hey huggs, I think I was out at the store getting a smaller SD when you posted that. That had been the problem. Thanks!)

And have you used it to flash? I've seen one, only one, person in the two years I've been reading here that claims to have successfully used a 16gb card to flash, but it wasn't the tmous stock 16gb.
i have personally used a 16gb to flash roms but havent tried radio flash yet.

read the thread, we're talking about flashing a radio from sd card, .nbh file flashing.
</slowhandclap>
I think you are trying to make the process more difficult than it should be.
Download the new radio and CustomRUU here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
Put them both in a folder and rename the radio to "RUU_Signed.nbh" . Boot the phone to tri color bootloader and connect to the pc. Once detected, run CustomRUU and follow the steps, it should update the radio in a couple of seconds. No need for SD cards!
OK refresher
OK, just a refresher for anyone that is reading this later...
This thread was originally for updating the radio when Android was already on the phone. B/c Android was on, I couldn't get an Active Sync connection. Someone said to put the file on the SD card, which I did, but received an update error. This turned out to be due to using a 16GB SD Card. I changed to a 4 GB SC card, and the update went through perfectly.
Hopefully this helps someone in the future, since I know I had a hard time finding this info on the site.

Hi all, i have a request a Goldcard for my Leo T8585.
I want to install ROM Officall 3.14 WWE but i don't want to install it through HSPL and get ~50MB of Free Program.
my CID: E6A600C36FAB60804738305553445303
I have tried the Free Gold Card Image from PSAS Homepage but it doesn't work. When i use Bootloader to load the LEOIMG.nbh at my 8GB microSD Card, it said: "Not Allowed" .
So,please, can anyone here make me a gold card for my Leo, i will be very happy. Thank you.

what, the free ANDROID device goldcard generator? and it didnt work? really? hehe.
try this.
Thank you, i will try it right now.
But i have a question, could i install a new 3.14 ROM for a t8585 came from asia (i think, amazon didn't tell me) through a Gold card?
thank samsamuel, your img work! Thanks!
Install 3.14 WWE without any trouble, but really weird...
My OS failed to boot before i flashed a new 3.14, then i shut everything off, plug the USB cable in and let it there to recharge the battery. About 45-1hrs later, i started flashing the new rom through a gold card. (The battery was remaining ~56% before the OS Failed and i need to shut everything off, and it recharged in 1hrs, and should reach >80%), the install was successfully, but i was amazed, the battery now is 99%-100&!
I remember, when i flashed a new rom, the LED Light wasn't green, it was Red, so the battery wasn't full that time. And the LED Light wasn't on when flashing a new ROM. SO, why i have 100% Battery now? Or my battery is having some error?
yea it does a restart at the start/ Took me by surprise too, but its when it updates the spl. Say you have 1.66, first thing it does it update spl to 3.03, then restarts the phone to reenter the new 3.03 bootloader, then it flashes the rom.
Made my heart skip too, heh.

Heh, yeah, you are right.

I was stunned by that messege, but then, everything was okay... Phewwww...
My battery is a myth, but it seem, the battery is okay now. Lucky, i didn't remove the battery when flashing because i thought the battery didn't have enough power to survive the whole task. If i did, i would look up in ebay to sell every part of this Leo and buy HD7 now...
Thanks samsamuel , your Goldcard image work perfect!
I have one more question, next time, i want to install other Offical ROM, just put the LEOIMG.nbh to this Micro SD card? Do i need to re-do the step to make a gold card again?
PS: Radio from this ROM is really good, the battery worked whole day, with Wifi Turned on...
so long as you don't format the card, it will continue to work with any official rom.

I have created a GoldCard and flashed my HD2 succesfully to spl 3.03. When I created the GoldCard and I read it with Explorer on my laptop or in my HD2 I did not see anything. Is that normal? I am just curious.
yea the image is written directly into the cards header. its not data that's stored on the card, it defines the card. think of it as the cards firmware.you can use it as a normal card if you like, so long as you don't format it it will stay gold.

If you sucessfully got HSPL of your HD2 using the advice samsamuel told you (wich is one of only two ways of getting it off hour HD2). Then just try reflashING the T-Mobile ROM. But if that does not work reflash HSPL to your HD2 and run a task 29 on your HD2 then remove HSPL again and reflash the T-Mobile ROM again. If you do not know what a task 29 is it will completely clean out the area of memory (NAND) that a ROM is stored in and reformat that space as well. It is good to do this when flashing a new ROM as it gives the ROM the best chance for a clean install with out a.y hiccups from the old ROM. Just do a such on google or here on XDA and you will find it.

You have to flash the stock ROM via SD card. This will remove the HSPL.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681317
i have nand android also. once i tried to go back to winmo by flashing via sd card, it just won't work.
anyway, at that time i need to use garmin and thinking of getting desire hd. thank god i failed to flash back to winmo, because after that i bought garmin A10. now i saved money (bought garmin A10 instead of desire HD), and have 2 android.

by the way, do we need to use 8G or smaller card? may card is 16G. is that why i failed to flash via sd card?

Yes it is recomended to use a 4GB SD card or smaller to flash via SD card. Also make sure the SD card is formated using Fat 32.
Hey guys,
So my HD2 recently started having the same issue a lot of you guys are having with the touchscreen just dying or being very unreliable. This past week I've had trouble getting past the lock screen and today it takes me half an hour to a full hour of attempts to make it past the lock. Once I do, however, the screen works fine until it's locked again.
I'm about two weeks away from warranty ending, so I want to get this bad boy sent in ASAP. A year ago I flashed a custom ROM onto the phone and haven't modified it until this morning when I installed MAGLDR 1.13 and NAND Android ROM. The new ROM worked great but didn't resolve the touchscreen issue at all.
What I want to do is completely restore the phone to how I bought it from T-Mobile US a year ago. I don't want the replacement voided because of the custom ROM, though it clearly has nothing to do with the error.
Not being very technically proficient with this stuff (aside form the dozens of hours I've spent reading up), what is the best way to go about this?
So far I tried doing a Hard Reset manually via the VolUpDown/EndCall button boot, but that just booted me into NANDroid after the reset. I tried downloading WinMo from the T-Mo site, but it's asking for a phone identification number I can't access because of the lack of touchscreen access.
Any help/advice you guys can offer would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
You can get the IMEI number from behind the battery to download the rom from t-mobile.
This was explained to me by another member here
Right click the ROM file you download from the T-mobile site and rename the .exe to a .zip and then you can explore the file to find the RUU_signed.nbh file. You want to copy the RUU_signed.nbh file to the root of your SD card (make sure it has been formated to FAT32) and rename the file to LEOIMG.nbh. then place the SD card in the HD2. Boot the HD2 imto bootloader and as soon as you see searching on the screen let the volume down button go. It should ask if you want to flash the imageand you will have to press the end button to confirm and it will flash the ROM.

Hi guys, i've just won bidding on ebay for a HTC HD2 with stock rom.
I won it for £62 Although there's a catch, the usb slot isn't functioning, so you can't charge the phone via usb or access files via usb. So the owner charges it via an external charger where you have to take the battery out and put it into one of those charger things. I've got one of them too, and it works a charm.
Now the real question is will I be able to put any version of android into the HD2 without access into the phone via usb? So would it perhaps be like the HTC hero where you put a rom into the sd card and flash from thereon? I hope it's like this, because I can't stand windows 6.5
Thanks in advance guys!
You can run SD BUILDS from the android section and use a different phone or a micro usb

As far as I know you cannot flash HSPL 2.08 via the SD card and therefore cannot flash NAND Android (replacing WinMo with Android) but you can run SD android from the SD card. Just update to the latest stock build with radio 2.15.50 then download an SD Android rom, run CLRCAD and HARET and enjoy.

So I can run ICS? from the sd card essentially?
Check if your hd2 has radio 2.15.50.14 or other with a .50 number in it for example 2.12.50.02.you can check it from os or in red small letters in right corner of the screen when phone boots
if it has you can run sd android roms
then power down the phone.Hold volume down and press power.Dont let vol down until you see a tri-color screen. If it says hspl 2.08 or 3.03.cotulla then you can put clk bootloader v1.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1114053 and run nand android without the need of usb port
if nothing of these things (no hspl,no radio 2.x.50.x) exist in your phone, you cant run android sd or nand
Dudes, dont give him wrong infos.
Ofc you can install nand roms without your usb connector. Simply use cLK bootloader instead of MAGLDR. But, as alrdy mentioned, you need hspl.
If so, you are able to install cLK from your sd and set up CWM recovery layout size over it. Without PC. Just search for it here in Q&A and forget sd-builds.
I might have some time tomorrow to search the correct link for you.
And clio is right. For further information look here

Therefore nobody gave him incorrect information If you can't flash HSPL via SD card, NAND Android won't work properly. Nobody said you couldn't flash cLK via SD card though
Also, if you don't have a .50 radio you will have to update your stock ROM via SD card. Download the stock ROM for your device and extract it somewhere, find RUU_Signed.nbh, rename it to Leoimg.nbh and place it on your SD card. Reboot your phone into bootloader and follow the instructions from there to flash. I've never done this before and this is just off the top of my head from what I can remember reading, so if you need to do this google the process first just in case I missed something
And yes, you can run any ROM off the SD card, from ICS to MIUI to CM7 to Sense.
Guys, there was time in HD2 BEFORE hspl existed

IF you are technically sound and IF you have some patience, look up HD2 goldcard. There were a few common goldcard images somewhere - this is a hit or miss for you as to create a goldcard for your phone, you need the USB of your phone. Since we can't go with that, try the different images - and hope one of them works. Repeat the following steps with different goldcards until one of them clicks or until you run out of them.
Once you have a goldcard in place, look for cLK 1.5 RC1 from Rick_1995. This version of cLK includes clockworkmod. Place the leoimg.nbh file in the root of SD Card, power on the phone with volume down. If all goes well, the leoimg.nbh will flash, which means you will have cLK bootloader with Clockwordmod recovery.
Read up how to create partitions without a PC (and hence without using USB) using cLK 1.5, and you should be good to go.
Important Note: I have never used a gold card to flash cLK 1.5 on my phone. A gold card disables ROM ID checks, and was used in the good ol' days to flash stock HTC ROMs on carrier branded HD2 phones. The same may or may not apply for flashing cLK 1.5, give it a try - this is the only chance of ever getting NAND Android on your phone.
If the goldcard method did not work, see if you can buy another HD2 with the motherboard working (example, screen broken but booting) and replace the motherboard to get a working USB port. Or stick to Android from SD Card, follow @clio94's instructions - just make sure you have .50 radio, or flash a stock rom with a .50 radio using the leoimg.nbh method.

You`re right. For european hd2 model the only stock rom with radio .50 is the latest v3.14 that includes radio 2.15.50.14
so if his hd2 doesnt have hspl and no .50 radio he will find under battery the serial number of his device and then flash from sd card the properly 3.14 rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623283
and he will be able to run android from sd
Hello people, I have been going through threads and threads regarding similar problems, but having tried and failed with so many strategies, I will have to bother you all.
So the thing is I was using a CM Jellytime MOD (data on ext) in my HD2, and having frequent hangs and freezes that I thought were linked to LCD malfunction, so I ordered a new screen and digitizer to see if I could save the device. Unluckily, just before these arrived, the HD2 suffered one final freeze, after which every soft reset would give the white blank screen and nothing else. I thought that maybe I should task29 the device and re install the ROM. The bootloader can be still accessed and I re-flashed HSPL with no problems.
But I cannot get to Magldr, as you can imagine, as there is no way to go through the white blank screen. Every time I try to re-flash either the radio (2.15.50.xx), Magldr, or even task29, I get "update errors", and no changes. I tried both using the specific utilities or the NANDtoolkit, to no avail.
I even tried MTTY, which seemed to go well, but did not bring any changes to the situation. It is still the same.
This is my bootloader screen:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
CotullaHSPL 0x05
0x30
Any other info that you think may help I will post it ASAP.
I have read that maybe the NAND has finally died, but I'm not sure and would not abandon the cause without some feedback. Can someone help with this? I will greatly appreciate, I live in Argentina and I don't think I will be able to get another smartphone (I got this one from a good friend who bought himself another one) right now, or ever
If I'm lucky I may be able to sell the LCD and touchscreen replacement, ha.
Thank you all!

@leandrox :i recommend removing the sd-card if present, flashing hspl 2.08 again.
Then, flash radio 2.15.50 (even if you tried before, try again now). if that was successful, reflashing magldr should be the success.
Or else...
Also, try putting your hd2 in a freezer, sometimes there may be overheating problems from what i used to see

Hello @Gilbert, thanks for helping with this.
I have tried each flash with the SD and the SIM out, as I have read around about both interfering with flashing. So I guess that's not the problem.
I will try the "pre-cooling method" and tell you how it goes.
Is there any chance I should remove HSPL before re-flashing it? Also, does the battery charge while connected in bootloader mode? Because I am afraid I will finally run out of power througout the try and error processes.
Thanks again.

not sure about removing hspl... you can try that tho. as for battery, you're probably right. there's a possibility it runs out of power.
did you try flashing stock rom from sd or usb? (emphasizing on sd method)

I guess that would be the next wise step (and I'll do it with the right pre-cooling in the freezer).
Correct me if I'm wrong:
- I need a FAT32 (?) formatted SD.
- Then copy the official nbh to the root of the SD, renamed as "leoimg.nbh". (still looking for the correct download; maybe here o here?)
- Enter bootloader screen, with the SD on. After a little while, it should read "loadng" and the flashing can begin.
After this, hopefully, has worked, I should be able to:
- Reflash HSPL 2.08
- Reflash latest radio if needed.
- Reflash Magldr and Clk
- Install new Android ROM
... but I'm looking way ahead my actual hopes
EDIT: I could not download the ROM from any of the quoted sites. Maybe someone can indicate to me the right ROM from this list: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=windows mobile&model=Leo
My model is the 576 RAM one.

Correct. don't forget that the sd should be between 1 and 8 gb in size (that's what i remember, larger sizes could do weird stuff)

Thanks Gilbert! now I have work for this evening. Tomorrow morning I'll let you know how it went.
But I could not download the ROM from any of the two sites I quoted above. Maybe you can help me choose the right ROM from this list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46839373&postcount=837
My model is the 576 RAM one.

RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe this is the one i used IIRC
Ok @Gilbert, here's the update. No good news so far.
I tried flasing the mentioned official ROM from SD card and I get the "Update terminate / Update failed" message when installing. I also tried with a custom RUU but I got the same message.
I have been reading this thread where some guy apparently had the same problem and fixed it:
"After that I made a new goldcard using Duttys Leo Sense 2.5 Multi-Lang. "
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5384679&postcount=68
but I cannot understand what this actually means. I downloaded the mentioned Dutty ROM but it is a cab file that I don't know how to flash to the HD2.
I still have a tiny hope that the phone may actually come back to life. Again, thanks a lot for helping!

OK. Back to work then.
I will follow this tutorial. But I see I need an ActiveSync/MobileDeviceCenter connection. I don't think you can do that when you have no OS on the phone, right? Can I do this while in the bootloader?
Should I take any additional precautions attempting the process from W8-x64?
EDIT: It seems I need another phone to put the microSD on so I can get the correct CID with RevSkills (apparently you need the device to be connected through the MobileDeviceCenter or it fails). Then I may be able to ask someone else to get me a goldcard for said CID.

I remember there being tutorials for making a goldcard, that need to have a microSD adapter only, no other device, and others that tell you how to get cid from an android phone.that doesn't require PSAS like in the tutorial you're following

I got an adapter I can put in my old PDA and get the microSD CID. @Gilbert, can you prepare Goldcard images? In the tutorial there are some users mentioned that are supposed to do it, can you recommend any of them so I can ask them for it? Thanks in advance

making goldcard is easy...
i remember getting cid and writing it reversed to http://huygens.hoxnet.com/goldcard.html (choose reversed cid iirc), downloading goldcard.img, opening sd with some hex editor (hxd i recommend) and writing goldcard.img content to it
you should read the tutorials available online, as what i said could be a lot wrong

I have tried to flash the phone with the Goldcard through this method. I am wondering wether I should expect something different after the bootloader starts, because I just get to the same point as I did when trying to flash it without the Goldcard, and getting the same failed "update terminate / update fail" message. Maybe I did not prepare the Goldcard well. Or maybe the phone mainboard ROM/NAND is simply ruined :crying:
I have to assume that the radio must be bricked. From what I read, this is the only thing that can actually brick your device when you still can get to the tricolored bootloader. Everytime I try to flash a ROM, it fails while flashing the Radio, so there has to be a hardware problem that prevents it. I still wonder how that happened.
I was running JellyTime, and then all of the sudden the phone froze and then just didn't turn on again (blank white screen). Can overheating ruin the NAND or ROM? Should I consider this battle as lost? I am so disappointed...
I read about one user who concluded that all you can do is flash a ROM with no radio, and keep the phone only as an Android device (no phone use). He told me I should get a dev or cooker to cook a radio-less ROM so I can do that. Does anyone know if there's a ROM like this I could use?
